Abstract:We prove an escape rate result for special semi-flows over non-invertible subshifts of finite type. Our proofs are based on a discretisation of the flow and an application of an escape rate result for conformal repellers.

Abstract:In this paper we study a contracting flow of closed, convex hypersurfaces in the Euclidean space ℝ^n+1 with speed f r^α K, where K is the Gauss curvature, r is the distance from the hypersurface to the origin, and f is a positive and smooth function. If α≥ n+1, we prove that the flow exists for all time and converges smoothly after normalisation to a soliton, which is a sphere centred at the origin if f ≡ 1. Our argument provides a parabolic proof in the smooth category for the classical Aleksandrov problem, and resolves the dual q-Minkowski problem introduced by Huang, Lutwak, Yang and Zhang (Acta Math. 216 (2016): 325-388), for the case q<0. If α < n+1, corresponding to the case q>0, we also establish the same results for even function f and origin-symmetric initial condition, but for non-symmetric f, counterexample is given for the above smooth convergence.

Abstract:We show that dynamical systems with phi-mixing measures have local escape rates which are exponential with rate 1 at non-periodic points and equal to the extremal index at periodic points. We apply this result to equilibrium states on subshifts of finite type, Gibbs-Markov systems, expanding interval maps, Gibbs states on conformal repellers, and more generally to Young towers, and by extension to all systems that can be modeled by a Young tower.

Abstract:In this paper, we consider a subshift of finite type with Markov measure. By considering a union of cylinders as holes, we investigate the exponential growth rate of measure of points whose orbits do not escape into the hole over a fixed number of iterations. We present two formulations for this escape rate: one based on the spectral radius of the Hadamard product of a related adjacency matrix and the stochastic matrix with respect to which the Markov measure is defined, and the other utilizing a recurrence relation. These formulations enable a comparative analysis of escape rates into distinct holes.

Abstract:We prove that for a sequence of nested sets $\{U_n\}$ with $\Lambda = \cap_n U_n$ a measure zero set, the localized escape rate converges to the extremal index of $\Lambda$, provided that the dynamical system is $\phi$-mixing at polynomial speed. We also establish the general equivalence between the local escape rate for entry times and the local escape rate for returns.

Abstract:We focus on the complexity of a special flow built over an irrational rotation of the unit circle and under a roof function on the unit circle. We construct a weak mixing minimal special flow with bounded topological complexity. We also prove that if the roof function is $C^\infty $, then the special flow has sub-polynomial topological complexity and the time one map meets the condition of Sarnak’s conjecture.

Abstract:The study of escape rates for a ball in a dynamical systems has been much studied. Understanding the asymptotic behavior of the escape rate as the radius of the ball tends to zero is an especially subtle problem. In the case of hyperbolic conformal systems this has been addressed by various authors. In this paper we consider a far more general realm of conformal maps where the analysis is correspondingly more complicated. We prove the existence of escape rates and calculate them in the context of countable alphabets, either finite or infinite, uniformly contracting conformal graph directed Markov systems with their special case of conformal countable alphabet iterated function systems. This goal is achieved by developing the appropriate theory of singular perturbations of Perron-Frobenius (transfer) operators associated with countable alphabet subshifts of finite type and Hölder continuous summable potentials. This is the key ingredient for further results about other conformal systems. These include topological Collet-Eckmann multimodal interval maps and rational maps of the Riemann sphere (an equivalent formulation is to be uniformly hyperbolic on periodic points), and also a large class of transcendental meromorphic functions.

On incompressible flows in discrete networks and Shnirelman's inequality

Abstract:Let $f$ and $g$ be two volume-preserving diffeomorphisms on the cube $Q=[0,1]^{\nu}$, $\nu \geq 3$. We show that there is a divergence-free vector field $v \in L^1((0,1);L^p(Q))$ such that $v$ connects $f$ and $g$ through the corresponding flow and $\Vert v \Vert_{L^1_t L^p_x} \leq C_{p,\nu} \Vert f- g \Vert_{L^p_x}$. In particular we show Shnirelman's inequality, cf. [Shnirelman, Generalized fluid flows, their approximation and applications (1994)], for the optimal Hölder exponent $\alpha =1$, thus proving that the metric on the group of volume-preserving diffeomorphisms of $Q$ is equivalent to the $L^2$-distance. To achieve this, we discretise our problem, use some results on flows in discrete networks and then construct a flow in non-discrete space-time out of the discrete solution.

Abstract:In prior work the authors introduced a parabolic flow of pluriclosed metrics. Here we give improved regularity results for solutions to this equation. Furthermore, we exhibit this equation as the gradient flow of the lowest eigenvalue of a certain Schr\"odinger operator, and show the existence of an expanding entropy functional for this flow. Finally, we motivate a conjectural picture of the optimal regularity results for this flow, and discuss some of the consequences.

Abstract:In this paper we introduce the notion of parabolic $\alpha$-Riesz flow, for $\alpha\in(0,d)$, extending the notion of $s$-fractional heat flows to negative values of the parameter $s=-\frac{\alpha}{2}$. Then, we determine the limit behaviour of these gradient flows as $\alpha \to 0^+$ and $\alpha \to d^-$. To this end we provide a preliminary $\Gamma$-convergence expansion for the Riesz interaction energy functionals. Then we apply abstract stability results for uniformly $\lambda$-convex functionals which guarantee that $\Gamma$-convergence commutes with the gradient flow structure.

Global stability of discretized Anosov flows

Abstract:The goal of this article is to establish several general properties of a somewhat large class of partially hyperbolic diffeomorphisms called \emph{discretized Anosov flows}. A general definition for these systems is presented and is proven to be equivalent with the definition introduced in [BFFP19], as well as with the notion of flow type partially hyperbolic diffeomorphisms introduced in [BFT20]. The set of discretized Anosov flows is shown to be $C^1$ open and closed inside the set of partially hyperbolic diffeomorphisms. Every discretized Anosov flow is proven to be dynamically coherent and plaque expansive. Unique integrability of the center bundle is shown to happen for whole connected components, notably the ones containing the time 1 map of an Anosov flow. For general connected components, a result on uniqueness of invariant foliation is obtained. Similar results are seen to happen for partially hyperbolic systems admitting a uniformly compact center foliation extending the studies initiated in [BB16].

Abstract:We consider the long-time existence of the anomaly flow on a compact complex $3$-fold with general slope parameter $\alpha'$. In particular, we obtain integral Shi-type estimates for the flow by adapting a integration-by-parts type argument instead of the usual maximum principle techniques. Following this, we prescribe a sufficient smallness condition on $\alpha'$ in order to extend the flow on $[0,\tau)$ to $[0,\tau + \epsilon)$.

Abstract:We show the existence of non-homothetic ancient flows by powers of curvature embedded in $\mathbb{R}^2$ whose entropy is finite. We determine the Morse indices and kernels of the linearized operator of shrinkers to the flows and construct ancient flows by using unstable eigenfunctions of the linearized operator.

Abstract:A flow view is the graph of a measurable conjugacy $\Phi$ between a substitution or S-adic subshift $(\Sigma,\sigma, \mu)$ and an exchange of infinitely many intervals in $([0,1], F, m)$, where $m$ is Lebesgue measure. A natural refining sequence of partitions of $\Sigma$ is transferred to $([0,1],m)$ using a canonical addressing scheme, a fixed dual substitution, and a shift-invariant probability measure $\mu$. On the flow view, $T \in \Sigma$ is shown horizontally at a height of $\Phi(T)$ using colored unit intervals to represent the letters. The infinite interval exchange transformation $F$ is well approximated by exchanges of finitely many intervals, making numeric and graphic methods possible. We prove that in certain cases a choice of dual substitution guarantees that $F$ is self-similar. We discuss why the spectral type of $\Phi \in L^2(\Sigma, \mu),$ is of particular interest. As an example of utility, some spectral results for constant-length substitutions are included.

Abstract:Based on the theory of Carathéodory structure, this paper introduces several definitions of entropies for impulsive semi-flows on arbitrary subsets. We compare these definitions and establish relations of these definitions. We show an inverse variational principle between topological -entropy and measure theoretic -entropy. Moreover, a variational principle of packing entropy of impulsive semi-flows is established.

Abstract:In this work we study the existence of singular flows satisfying shadowing-like properties. More precisely, we prove that if C1 -vector field on a closed manifold induces a chain-recurrent flow containing an attached hyperbolic singularity of stable or unstable index-one, then this flow cannot satisfy the shadowing property. If the manifold is non-compact, the vector field is complete and non-wandering, we prove that we prove that the existence of index-one hyperbolic singularities prevents the induced flow to satisfy the rescaled-shadowing property introduced in [6].

Abstract:The smoothing effect states that solutions to the Schr{ö}dinger equation in the Euclidean space have, for almost-every time, a local-in-space improved regularity (gain of half a derivative in Sobolev spaces). In this note, we show that, for the Schr{ö}dinger equation with a sub-quadratic confining potential, the smoothing effect is equivalent to an escape rate estimate on the associated classical flow. The proof relies on an Egorov theorem proved in~\cite{P:24Egorovinprep}.
