Abstract:In this paper we give a new proof to the energy conservation for the weak solutions of the incompressible Navier-Stokes equations. This result was first proved by Shinbrot. The new proof relies on a lemma introduced by Lions.

Abstract:In this paper, we are concerned with the conservation of energy criterion of the weak solutions to the Navier–Stokes–Fourier equations on the torus allowing vacuum. We establish the energy conservation criteria via the gradient of velocity for the weak solutions of this system, which generalizes the corresponding recent energy conservation criteria in terms of the velocity obtained by Aoki and Iwabuchi in Aoki and Iwabuchi (2022). Moreover, sufficient conditions for weak solutions keeping the energy balance allowing vacuum are shown for the full Navier–Stokes equations.

Abstract:The continuity of the kinetic energy is an important property of incompressible viscous fluid flows. We show that for any prescribed finite energy divergence-free initial data there exist infinitely many global in time weak solutions with smooth energy profiles to both the 3D deterministic and stochastic incompressible Navier-Stokes equations. In the stochastic case the constructed solutions are probabilistically strong. Our proof introduces a new backward convex integration scheme with delicate selections of initial relaxed solutions, backward time intervals, and energy profiles. Our initial relaxed solutions satisfy a new time-dependent frequency truncated NSE, different from the usual approximations as it decreases the large Reynolds error near the initial time, which plays a key role in the construction.

Abstract:In this paper, we study the problem of energy equality for weak solutions of the 3D incompressible non-Newtonian fluids equations equations with initial value conditions. We get new sufficient conditions by means of the Sobolev multiplier spaces, which guarantee the establishment of the energy equality. And the aforementioned equations are often associated with the corresponding positive conclusion of the Onsager's conjecture for non-Newtonian fluids.

Abstract:We consider the 3D Euler equations for incompressible homogeneous fluids and we study the problem of energy conservation for weak solutions in the space-periodic case. First, we prove the energy conservation for a full scale of Besov spaces, by extending some classical results to a wider range of exponents. Next, we consider the energy conservation in the case of conditions on the gradient, recovering some results which were known, up to now, only for the Navier-Stokes equations and for weak solutions of the Leray-Hopf type. Finally, we make some remarks on the Onsager singularity problem, identifying conditions which allow to pass to the limit from solutions of the Navier-Stokes equations to solution of the Euler ones, producing weak solutions which are energy conserving.

Abstract:This paper concerns the energy balance of very weak solutions to incompressible non-resistive MHD equations. By using a unified approach, we give a sufficient condition on the regularity of very weak solutions for these equalities to hold. More precisely, we show if a very weak solution satisfies for some small and , then ( u , b ) is necessarily a Leray-Hopf solution and obeys the energy equality. This result is inspired by and improves energy balance result established by Galdi [14].

Abstract:In this paper, we are concerned with the minimal regularity of weak solutions implying the law of balance for both energy and helicity in the incompressible Euler equations. In the spirit of recent works due to Berselli [5] and Berselli-Georgiadis [6], it is shown that the energy of weak solutions is invariant if $v\in L^{p}(0,T;B^{\frac1p}_{\frac{2p}{p-1},c(\mathbb{N})} )$ with $1<p\leq3$ and the helicity is conserved if $v\in L^{p}(0,T;B^{\frac2p}_{\frac{2p}{p-1},c(\mathbb{N})} )$ with $2<p\leq3 $ for both the periodic domain and the whole space, which generalizes the classical work of Cheskidov-Constantin-Friedlander-Shvydkoy in [10]. This indicates the role of the time integrability, spatial integrability and differential regularity of the velocity in the conserved quantities of weak solutions of the ideal fluid.

Abstract:When a Leray--Hopf weak solution to the NSE has a singularity set $S$ of dimension $d$ less than $3$---for example, a suitable weak solution---we find a family of new $L^q L^p$ conditions that guarantee validity of the energy equality. Our conditions surpass the classical Lions--Ladyženskaja $L^4 L^4$ result in the case $d<1$. Additionally, we establish energy equality in certain cases of Type-I blow up. The results are also extended to the NSE with fractional power of the Laplacian below $1$.

Abstract:We study the energy balance for the weak solutions of the three-dimensional compressible Navier--Stokes equations in a bounded domain. By constructing a global mollification combined with an independent boundary cut-off and then taking a double limit to prove the convergence of the resolved energy, we establish an - regularity condition on the velocity field for the energy equality to hold, provided that the density is bounded and satisfies . As a result of our new approach, we can avoid assuming additional regularity of the velocity near the boundary in order to deal with the boundary production due to the diffusion terms.

Abstract:It is showed that, as the Mach number goes to zero, the weak solution of the compressible Navier-Stokes equations in the whole space with general initial data converges to the strong solution of the incompressible Navier-Stokes equations as long as the later exists. The proof of the result relies on the new modulated energy functional and the Strichartz's estimate of linear wave equation.

Abstract:In this manuscript, we aim to establish global existence of weak solutions with higher regularity to the compressible Navier-Stokes equations under no-slip boundary conditions. Though Lions\cite{L1} and Feireisl\cite{F1} have established global weak solutions with finite energy under Dirichelet boundary conditions by making use of so called effective viscous flux and oscillation defect measure,Hoff has investigated global weak solutions with higher regularity in \cite{H1,Hof2} when the domain is either whole space or half space with Navier-slip boundary conditions, yet the existence theory of global weak solution with higher regularity under Dirichlet boundary conditions remains unknown. In this paper we prove that the system will admit at least one global weak solutions with higher regularity as long as the initial energy is suitably small when the domain is a 2D solid disc. This is achieved by exploiting the structure of the exact Green function of the disc to decompose the effective viscous flux into three parts, which corresponds to the pressure term, boundary term and the remaining term respectively. In order to control the boundary term, one of the key observations is to use the geometry of the domain which sucessfully to bound the integral of the effective viscous flux where $L^1$ norm is always unbounded.

Abstract:We study the Navier-Stokes-Darcy-Boussinesq system that models the thermal convection of a fluid overlying a saturated porous medium in a general decomposed domain. In both two and three spatial dimensions, we first prove the existence of global weak solutions to the initial boundary value problem subject to the Lions and Beavers-Joseph-Saffman-Jones interface conditions. The proof is based on a proper time-implicit discretization scheme combined with the Leray-Schauder principle and compactness arguments. Next, we establish a weak-strong uniqueness result such that a weak solution coincides with a strong solution emanating from the same initial data as long as the latter exists.
Global well-posedness of inhomogeneous Navier-Stokes equations with bounded density

Abstract:In this paper, we solve Lions' open problem: {\it the uniqueness of weak solutions for the 2-D inhomogeneous Navier-Stokes equations (INS)}. We first prove the global existence of weak solutions to 2-D (INS) with bounded initial density and initial velocity in $L^2(\mathbb R^2)$. Moreover, if the initial density is bounded away from zero, then our weak solution equals to Lions' weak solution, which in particular implies the uniqueness of Lions' weak solution. We also extend a celebrated result by Fujita and Kato on the 3-D incompressible Navier-Stokes equations to 3-D (INS): {\it the global well-posedness of 3-D (INS) with bounded initial density and initial velocity being small in $\dot H^{1/2}(\mathbb R^3)$}. The proof of the uniqueness is based on a surprising finding that the estimate $t^{1/2}\nabla u\in L^2(0,T; L^\infty(\mathbb R^d))$ instead of $\nabla u\in L^1(0, T; L^\infty(\mathbb R^d))$ is enough to ensure the uniqueness of the solution.

Relative Energy Method For Weak-Strong Uniqueness Of The Inhomogeneous Navier-Stokes Equations

Abstract:We present a weak-strong uniqueness result for the inhomogeneous Navier-Stokes (INS) equations in $\mathbb{R}^d$ ($d=2,3$) for bounded initial densities that are far from vacuum. Given a strong solution within the class employed in Paicu, Zhang and Zhang (2013) and Chen, Zhang and Zhao (2016), and a Leray-Hopf weak solution, we establish that they coincide if the initial data agree. The strategy of our proof is based on the relative energy method and new $W^{-1,p}$-type stability estimates for the density. A key point lies in proving that every Leray-Hopf weak solution originating from initial densities far from vacuum remains distant from vacuum at all times.

Abstract:In this paper, we provide a much simplified proof of the main result in [Lin, Xu, Zhang, arXiv:1302.5877] concerning the global existence and uniqueness of smooth solutions to the Cauchy problem for a 2D incompressible viscous and non-resistive MHD system under the assumption that the initial data are close to some equilibrium states. Beside the classical energy method, the interpolating inequalities and the algebraic structure of the equations coming from the incompressibility of the fluid are crucial in our arguments. We combine the energy estimates with the L^∞ estimates for time slices to deduce the key L^1 in time estimates. The latter is responsible for the global in time existence.

Moreover, we also establish a localized version of Galdi's theory in Galdi (2019 Proc. Am. Math. Soc. 147 5349–59) and extend the localized Ladyzhenskaya–Prodi–Serrin criterion from weak solutions to very weak solutions.

Abstract:This article studies the uniqueness of the weak solution of the incompressible Navier-Stokes Equations in the 3-dimensional case. Here, the investigation is provided using two different approaches. The first (the main) result is obtained for given functions possessing a certain smoothness using the new approach. The second result is without the complementary conditions but is, in some sense, the "local" result investigated by another approach. In addition, here the solvability and uniqueness of the weak solutions to auxiliary problems lead out from the main problem are investigated.
