Abstract:Detailed analysis shows that the famous Iyengar inequality actually says that the Trapezoidal formula is a central algorithm for approximating integrals over an appropriate interval for the class of functions whose derivatives are bounded by a positive number K in L ∞ -sense. The inherent nonlinearity from central algorithms reflects the importance of the Iyengar inequality and thus makes familiar linear methods malfunction when one tries to generalize it. It is shown that the generalization depends on a nonlinear system of equations satisfied by a set of free nodes of a perfect spline. Explicit constructions are obtained in the spirit of the Iyengar inequality for the class of functions whose r th ( r ≤4) derivatives are bounded by a positive number K in L ∞ -sense because a closed solution to the nonlinear system is only available for r ≤4. Connections with computational mathematics, especially with best interpolation and best quadrature, are discussed. Numerical experiments are also included.

Abstract:In this paper, we derive Li-Yau inequality for unbounded Laplacian on complete weighted graphs with the assumption of the curvature dimension inequality CDE′(n,K), which can be regarded as a notion of curvature on graphs. Furthermore, we obtain some applications of Li-Yau inequality, including Harnack inequality, heat kernel bounds and Cheng's eigenvalue estimate. These are the first kind of results in this direction for unbounded Laplacian on graphs.

Abstract:In this paper, we prove a Talenti-type comparison theorem for the $p$-Laplacian with Dirichlet boundary conditions on open subsets of a $\mathrm{RCD}(K,N)$ space with $K>0$ and $N\in (1,\infty)$. The obtained Talenti-type comparison theorem is sharp, rigid and stable with respect to measured Gromov-Hausdorff topology. As an application of such Talenti-type comparison, we establish a sharp and rigid reverse Hölder inequality for first eigenfunctions of the $p$-Laplacian and a related quantitative stability result.

Abstract:In this article, we prove various gradient estimates for unbounded graph Laplacians which satisfy the ellipticity condition. Unlike common assumptions for unbounded Laplacians, i.e. completeness and non-degenerate measure, the ellipticity condition is purely local that is easy to verify on a graph. First, we establish an equivalent semigroup property, namely the gradient estimate of exponential curvaturedimension inequality, which is a modification of the curvature-dimension inequality and can be viewed as a notion of curvature on graphs. Additionally, we use the semigroup method to prove the Li-Yau inequalities and the Hamilton inequality for unbounded Laplacians on graphs with the ellipticity condition. Abstract:This paper studies eigenvalues of the drifting Laplacian on compact Riemannian manifolds with boundary (possibly empty) and provides a general inequality for them. Using the general inequality, we obtain universal inequalities for eigenvalues of the drifting Laplacian of Payne-Pólya-Weinberger-Yang type for manifolds supporting some special functions. We also obtain a lower bound for the first eigenvalue of the square of the drifting Laplacian on compact manifolds with boundary under some condition on the Bakry-Ricci curvature.

Abstract:Based on a global estimate of the heat kernel, some important inequalities such as Poincaré inequality and log-Sobolev inequality, furthermore a tight logarithm Sobolev inequality are presented on graphs, just under a positive curvature condition ′ (, ) with some > 0. As consequences, we obtain exponential integrability of integrable Lipschitz functions and moment bounds at the same assumption on graphs.
A Note on Free Boundary Problems on RCD(K,N)-spaces

Abstract:This note is devoted to prove the following results on RCD(K,N)-spaces: 1) minimizers of one-phase Bernoulli problems are locally Lipschitz continuous; 2) minimizers of classical obstacle problems are quadratic growth away from the free boundary. Recently, both of these two results were obtained on non-collapsed RCD(K,N)-spaces; see [13,23]. This note will prove these two results without assuming that the ambient space is non-collapsed. We also include a proof of nondegeneracy of minimizers and locally finiteness of perimeter of their free boundaries for two-phase Bernoulli problems.

Abstract:Given p , N > 1 , we prove the sharp L p -log-Sobolev inequality on noncompact metric measure spaces satisfying the CD ( 0 , N ) condition, where the optimal constant involves the asymptotic volume ratio of the space. This proof is based on a sharp isoperimetric inequality in CD ( 0 , N ) spaces, symmetrization, and a careful scaling argument. As an application we establish a sharp hypercontractivity estimate for the Hopf–Lax semigroup in CD ( 0 , N ) spaces. The proof of this result uses Hamilton–Jacobi inequality and Sobolev regularity properties of the Hopf–Lax semigroup, which turn out to be essential in the present setting of nonsmooth and noncompact spaces. Moreover, a sharp Gaussian-type L 2 -log-Sobolev inequality and a hypercontractivity estimate are obtained in RCD ( 0 , N ) spaces. Our results are new, even in the smooth setting of Riemannian/Finsler manifolds. In particular, an extension of the celebrated rigidity result of Ni (2004) [55] on Riemannian manifolds will be a simple consequence of our sharp log-Sobolev inequality.

Abstract:In this paper, we study a first Dirichlet eigenfunction of the weighted $p$-Laplacian on a bounded domain in a complete weighted Riemannian manifold. By constructing gradient estimates for a first eigenfunction, we obtain some relationships between weighted $p$-Laplacian first eigenvalues. As an immediate application, we also obtain some eigenvalue comparison results between the first Dirichlet eigenvalue of the weighted Laplacian, the first clamped plate eigenvalue and the first buckling eigenvalue.

Abstract:Let $\mathscr{C}_n=\{-1,1\}^n$ be the discrete hypercube equipped with the uniform probability measure $\sigma_n$. We prove that if $(E,\|\cdot\|_E)$ is a Banach space of finite cotype and $p\in[1,\infty)$, then every function $f:\mathscr{C}_n\to E$ satisfies the dimension-free vector-valued $L_p$ logarithmic Sobolev inequality $$\|f-\mathbb{E} f\|_{L_p(\log L)^{p/2}(E)} \leq \mathsf{K}_p(E) \left( \int_{\mathscr{C}_n} \Big\| \sum_{i=1}^n \delta_i \partial_i f\Big\|_{L_p(E)}^p \, d\sigma_n(\delta)\right)^{1/p}.$$ The finite cotype assumption is necessary for the conclusion to hold. This estimate is the hypercube counterpart of a result of Ledoux (1988) in Gauss space and the optimal vector-valued version of a deep inequality of Talagrand (1994). As an application, we use such vector-valued $L_p$ logarithmic Sobolev inequalities to derive new lower bounds for the bi-Lipschitz distortion of nonlinear quotients of the Hamming cube into Banach spaces with prescribed Rademacher type.

Abstract:In this paper, we are concerned with upper bounds of eigenvalues of Laplace operator on compact Riemannian manifolds and finite graphs. While on the former the Laplace operator is generated by the Riemannian metric, on the latter it reflects combinatorial structure of a graph. Respectively, eigenvalues have many applications in geometry as well as in combinatorics and in other fields of mathematics. We develop a universal approach to upper bounds on both continuous and discrete structures based upon certain properties of the corresponding heat kernel. This approach is perhaps much more general than its realization here. Basically, we start with the following entries: 1◦ an underlying space M with a finite measure μ; 2◦ a well-defined Laplace operator ∆ on functions on M so that ∆ is a self-adjoint operator in L(M,μ) with a discrete spectrum; 3◦ if M has a boundary, then the boundary condition should be chosen so that it does not disrupt self-adjointness of ∆ and is of dissipative nature; 4◦ a distance function dist(x, y) on M so that |∇dist| ≤ 1 for an appropriate notion of gradient.
Curvature-dimension condition, rigidity theorems and entropy differential inequalities on Riemannian manifolds

Abstract:In this paper, we use the information-theoretic approach to study curvature-dimension condition, rigidity theorems and entropy differential inequalities on Riemannian manifolds. We prove the equivalence of the ${\rm CD}(K, m)$-condition for $K\in \mathbb{R}$ and $m\in [n, \infty]$ and some entropy differential inequalities along the geodesics on the Wasserstein space over a Riemannian manifold. The rigidity models of the entropy differential inequalities are the $K$-Einstein manifolds and the $(K, m)$-Einstein manifolds with Hessian solitons. Moreover, we prove the monotonicity and rigidity theorem of the $W$-entropy along the geodesics on the Wasserstein space over Riemannian manifolds with CD$(0, m)$-condition. Finally, we compare our work with the synthetic geometry developed by Lott-Villani and Sturm.

Abstract:We prove pointwise and $L^{p}$-gradient comparison results for solutions to elliptic Dirichlet problems defined on open subsets of a (possibly non-smooth) space with positive Ricci curvature (more precisely of an $\mathrm{RCD}(K,N)$ metric measure space, with $K>0$ and $N\in (1,\infty)$). The obtained Talenti-type comparison is sharp, rigid and stable with respect to $L^{2}$/measured-Gromov-Hausdorff topology; moreover, several aspects seem new even for smooth Riemannian manifolds. As applications of such Talenti-type comparison, we prove a series of improved Sobolev-type inequalities, and an $\mathrm{RCD}$ version of the St.~Venant-Pólya torsional rigidity comparison theorem (with associated rigidity and stability statements). Finally, we give a probabilistic interpretation (in the setting of smooth Riemannian manifolds) of the aforementioned comparison results, in terms of exit time from an open subset for the Brownian motion.

Suppose that the subelliptic gradient is gloablly L p integrable, i.e., ∫_ℍ^n| ∇ _ℍ^n f|^p du is finite. We prove a Poincaré inequality for f on the entire space ℍ n . Using this inequality we prove that the function f subtracting a certain constant is in the nonisotropic Sobolev space formed by the completion of C^∞_0( ℍ^n) under the norm of ( ∫_ℍ^n| f |^Qp/Q - p)^Q - p/Qp + ( ∫_ℍ^n| ∇ _ℍ^n f|^p)^1/p . We will also prove that the best constants and extremals for such Poincaré inequalities on ℍ n are the same as those for Sobolev inequalities on ℍ n . Using the results of Jerison and Lee on the sharp constant and extremals for L 2 to L2Q/Q - 2 Sobolev inequality on the Heisenberg group, we thus arrive at the explicit best constant for the aforementioned Poincaré inequality on ℍ n when p = 2. We also derive the lower bound of the best constants for local Poincaré inequalities over metric balls on the Heisenberg group ℍ n .

Abstract:In this short survey, we derive some weyl-type universal inequalities of eigenvalues of the Laplacian on a closed Riemannian manifold of nonnegative Ricci curvature. We also give upper bounds for the $L_{\infty}$ norm of eigenfunctions of the Laplacian in the same setting. A detailed proof of these results did not seem to appear in the literature but the results follow from a simple combination of Milman's work and Cheng-Li's work.
