Abstract:We study a relation between Hadamard powers and polynomial kernel perceptrons. The rank of Hadamard powers for the special case of a Boolean matrix and for the generic case of a real matrix is computed explicitly. These results are interpreted in terms of the classification capacities of perceptrons.

Abstract:In mathematical chemistry and computational biology, eigenvalues of distance matrices are also used as descriptors for determining the degree of similarity between different chemical structures or biological sequences. Since observed structures can vary in size, the spectra of corresponding distance matrices can be of different size, which makes the comparison of such structures difficult. In this paper we introduce a mathematical theory needed to support novel graphical (qualitative and visual) and numerical (quantitative and computational) representation of biological sequences. As the main result, we derive a formula for the rank of the Hadamard power of an Euclidean distance matrix.

Abstract:Lehmer ['On certain character matrices', Pacific J. Math.6 (1956), 491–499, and 'Power character matrices', Pacific J. Math.10 (1960), 895–907] defines four classes of matrices constructed from roots of unity for which the characteristic polynomials and the kth powers can be determined explicitly. We study a class of matrices which arise naturally in transformation formulae of finite field hypergeometric functions and whose entries are roots of unity and zeroes. We determine the characteristic polynomial, eigenvalues, eigenvectors and kth powers of these matrices. The eigenvalues are natural families of products of Jacobi sums.

Abstract:Matrix theory is essential for addressing practical problems and executing computational tasks. Matrices related to Hermite polynomials are essential due to their applications in quantum mechanics, numerical analysis, probability, and signal processing. Their orthogonality, recurrence relations, and spectral properties make them a valuable tool for both theoretical research and practical applications. From a different perspective, we introduced a variant of the Hermite matrix that incorporates triple factorials and demonstrated that this matrix satisfies various properties. By utilizing effective matrix algebra techniques, various algebraic properties of this matrix have been determined, including the product formula, inverse matrix and eigenvalues. Additionally, we extended this matrix to a more generalized form and derived several identities.

Abstract:We introduce the Hadamard decomposition problem in the context of data analysis. The problem is to represent exactly or approximately a given matrix as the Hadamard (or element-wise) product of two or more low-rank matrices. The motivation for this problem comes from situations where the input matrix has a multiplicative structure. The Hadamard decomposition has potential for giving more succint but equally accurate representations of matrices when compared with the gold-standard of singular value decomposition ( svd ). Namely, the Hadamard product of two rank- matrices can have rank as high as . We study the computational properties of the Hadamard decomposition problem and give gradient-based algorithms for solving it approximately. We also introduce a mixed model that combines svd and Hadamard decomposition. We present extensive empirical results comparing the approximation accuracy of the Hadamard decomposition with that of the svd using the same number of basis vectors. The results demonstrate that the Hadamard decomposition is competitive with the svd and, for some datasets, it yields a clearly higher approximation accuracy, indicating the presence of multiplicative structure in the data.

Abstract:We provide a new proof of a sharp lower bound for the rank of the Hadamard product of positive semidefinite matrices. Our proof uses standard matrix analysis tools and involves the rank of one factor and the Kruskal rank of the other. It leads to a new understanding of when the Hadamard exponential of a positive semidefinite matrix can be singular.

Abstract:We analyze the set of real and complex Hadamard matrices with additional symmetry constrains. In particular, we link the problem of existence of maximally entangled multipartite states of $2k$ subsystems with $d$ levels each to the set of complex Hadamard matrices of order $N=d^k$. To this end, we investigate possible subsets of such matrices which are, dual, strongly dual ($H=H^{\rm R}$ or $H=H^{\rm\Gamma}$), two-unitary ($H^R$ and $H^{\Gamma}$ are unitary), or $k$-unitary. Here $X^{\rm R}$ denotes reshuffling of a matrix $X$ describing a bipartite system, and $X^{\rm \Gamma}$ its partial transpose. Such matrices find several applications in quantum many-body theory, tensor networks and classification of multipartite quantum entanglement and imply a broad class of analytically solvable quantum models in $1+1$ dimensions.

Abstract:We define quantum automorphisms and isomorphisms of Hadamard matrices. We show that every Hadamard matrix of size $N\ge 4$ has quantum symmetries and that all Hadamard matrices of a fixed size are mutually quantum isomorphic. These results pass also to the corresponding Hadamard graphs. We also define quantum Hadamard matrices acting on quantum spaces and bring an example thereof over matrix algebras.

Abstract:We present an explicit formula of the powers for the $2\times 2$ quantum matrices, that is a natural quantum analogue of the powers of the usual $2\times 2$ matrices. As applications, we give some non-commutative relations of the entries of the powers for the $2\times 2$ quantum matrices, which is a simple proof of the results of Vokos-Zumino-Wess (1990).

Abstract:We show that any two Hadamard subfactors arising from a pair of distinct complex Hadamard matrices of order 3 are either equal or inner conjugate via a unitary in the relative commutant of their intersection. Moreover, when the Hadamard subfactors are not equal, we prove the factoriality of their intersection, and quite interestingly, it turns out to be a vertex model subfactor. We compute the first relative commutant and characterize this subfactor by identifying it with a particular type of Krishnan-Sunder subfactor. A few key invariants, including the Pimsner-Popa probabilistic number, the angle, and the Connes- Størmer relative entropy for the pair of Hadamard subfactors are computed to understand their relative position.

Abstract:We consider the (symmetric) Pascal matrix, in its finite and infinite versions, and prove the existence of symmetric tridiagonal matrices commuting with it by giving explicit expressions for these commuting matrices. This is achieved by studying the associated Fourier algebra, which as a byproduct, allows us to show that all the linear relations of a certain general form for the entries of the Pascal matrix arise from only three basic relations. We also show that pairs of eigenvectors of the tridiagonal matrix define a natural eigenbasis for the binomial transform. Lastly, we show that the commuting tridiagonal matrices provide a numerically stable means of diagonalizing the Pascal matrix.

Abstract:In this paper we disprove the Haagerup statement that all complex Hadamard matrices of order five are equivalent with the Fourier matrix $F_5$ by constructing circulant matrices that lead to new Hadamard matrices. An important item is the construction of new mutually unbiased bases that are a basic concept of quantum theory and play an essential role in quantum tomography, quantum cryptografy, teleportation, construction of dense coding schemes, classical signal proccesing, etc.

Abstract:Various results based on some convexity assumptions (involving the exponential map along with affine maps, geodesics and convex hulls) have been recently established on Hadamard manifolds. In this paper we prove that these conditions are mutually equivalent and they hold if and only if the Hadamard manifold is isometric to the Euclidean space. In this way, we show that some results in the literature obtained on Hadamard manifolds are actually nothing but their well known Euclidean counterparts.
