Abstract:A matrix over ring with identity has the consecutive-column (CC) property if for all k, all its relevant submatrices having k consecutive rows and the first k columns are invertible. Similarly, the consecutive-row (CR) is defined. In this paper, we show that a arbitrary m x n matrix has both CC and CR properties if and only if it admits a certain factorization with bidiagonal-type factors (with invertible entries). This factorization is unique. We also show that there is a mutual 1 - 1 relations between the matrices having CC and CR properties and this certain factorization with bidiagonal-type factors (with invertible entries). This bidiagonal factorization has important applications in computer aided geometry design, electrical network and many other fields.

Abstract:A Hadamard matrix is said to be completely non-cyclic (CNC) if there are no two rows (or two columns) that are shift equivalent in its reduced form. In this paper, we present three new constructions of CNC Hadamard matrices. We give a primary construction using a flipping operation on the submatrices of the reduced form of a Hadamard matrix. We show that, up to some restrictions, the Kronecker product preserves the CNC property of Hadamard matrices and use this fact to give two secondary constructions of Hadamard matrices. The applications to construct low correlation zone sequences are provided.

Abstract:A Hadamard matrix is a scaled orthogonal matrix with $\pm 1$ entries. Such matrices exist in certain dimensions: the Hadamard conjecture is that such a matrix always exists when $n$ is a multiple of 4. A conjecture attributed to Ryser is that no circulant Hadamard matrices exist when $n > 4$. Recently, Dong and Rudelson proved the existence of approximate Hadamard matrices in all dimensions: there exist universal $0< c < C < \infty$ so that for all $n \geq 1$, there is a matrix $A \in \left\{-1,1\right\}^{n \times n}$ satisfying, for all $x \in \mathbb{R}^n$, $$ c \sqrt{n} \|x\|_2 \leq \|Ax\|_2 \leq C \sqrt{n} \|x\|_2.$$ We observe that, as a consequence of the existence of flat Littlewood polynomials, circulant approximate Hadamard matrices exist for all $n \geq 1$.

Abstract:The circulant real and complex matrices are used to find new real and complex conference matrices. With them we construct Sylvester inverse orthogonal matrices by doubling the size of inverse complex conference matrices. When the free parameters take values on the unit circle the inverse orthogonal matrices transform into complex Hadamard matrices. The method is used for $n=6$ conference matrices and in this way we find new parametrisations of Hadamard matrices for dimension $ n=12$.

Abstract:In this work, we propose an optimization approach for constructing various classes of circulant combinatorial designs that can be defined in terms of autocorrelations. The problem is formulated as a so-called feasibility problem having three sets, to which the Douglas-Rachford projection algorithm is applied. The approach is illustrated on three different classes of circulant combinatorial designs: circulant weighing matrices, D-optimal matrices, and Hadamard matrices with two circulant cores. Furthermore, we explicitly construct two new circulant weighing matrices, a $CW(126,64)$ and a $CW(198,100)$, whose existence was previously marked as unresolved in the most recent version of Strassler's table.

Abstract:This paper, makes a research on relations between the cyclotomic classes, Gaussian periods and rcirculant matrices, and create a correspondence between Gaussian periods and rcirculant matrices. It paraphrases Gaussian periods with a series of special rcirculant matrices Hk, and shows that they have some similar properties, such as the linear property of multiplication etc. Furthermore, It researches Gaussian periods polynomials of Hk and their inverse symmetry property and obtains that all Hk have the same characteristics and the same eigenvalues which are independent of the choice of k amd r; and find the sufficient and necessary condition of Hk's having the inverse symmetry property. All these results are all meaningful.

Abstract:Assume that $H$ is a circulant Hadamard matrix of order $n\geq 4$. We consider an appropriate stochastic matrix $S$ of order $n$ depending on $H$. This allows us to prove that $n = 4$. Thus, there are only $10$ circulant Hadamard matrices.

A note on MDS Property of Circulant Matrices

Abstract:In $2014$, Gupta and Ray proved that the circulant involutory matrices over the finite field $\mathbb{F}_{2^m}$ can not be maximum distance separable (MDS). This non-existence also extends to circulant orthogonal matrices of order $2^d \times 2^d$ over finite fields of characteristic $2$. These findings inspired many authors to generalize the circulant property for constructing lightweight MDS matrices with practical applications in mind. Recently, in $2022,$ Chatterjee and Laha initiated a study of circulant matrices by considering semi-involutory and semi-orthogonal properties. Expanding on their work, this article delves into circulant matrices possessing these characteristics over the finite field $\mathbb{F}_{2^m}.$ Notably, we establish a correlation between the trace of associated diagonal matrices and the MDS property of the matrix. We prove that this correlation holds true for even order semi-orthogonal matrices and semi-involutory matrices of all orders. Additionally, we provide examples that for circulant, semi-orthogonal matrices of odd orders over a finite field with characteristic $2$, the trace of associated diagonal matrices may possess non-zero values.

On MDS Property of g-Circulant Matrices

Abstract:Circulant Maximum Distance Separable (MDS) matrices have gained significant importance due to their applications in the diffusion layer of the AES block cipher. In $2013$, Gupta and Ray established that circulant involutory matrices of order greater than $3$ cannot be MDS. This finding prompted a generalization of circulant matrices and the involutory property of matrices by various authors. In $2016$, Liu and Sim introduced cyclic matrices by changing the permutation of circulant matrices. In $1961,$ Friedman introduced $g$-circulant matrices which form a subclass of cyclic matrices. In this article, we first discuss $g$-circulant matrices with involutory and MDS properties. We prove that $g$-circulant involutory matrices of order $k \times k$ cannot be MDS unless $g \equiv -1 \pmod k.$ Next, we delve into $g$-circulant semi-involutory and semi-orthogonal matrices with entries from finite fields. We establish that the $k$-th power of the associated diagonal matrices of a $g$-circulant semi-orthogonal (semi-involutory) matrix of order $k \times k$ results in a scalar matrix. These findings can be viewed as an extension of the results concerning circulant matrices established by Chatterjee {\it{et al.}} in $2022.$

Abstract:In this paper, we obtain a number of new infinite families of Hadamard matrices. Our constructions are based on four new constructions of difference families with four or eight blocks. By applying the Wallis-Whiteman array or the Kharaghani array to the difference families constructed, we obtain new Hadamard matrices of order $4(uv+1)$ for $u=2$ and $v\in \Phi_1\cup \Phi_2 \cup \Phi_3 \cup \Phi_4$; and for $u\in \{3,5\}$ and $v\in \Phi_1\cup \Phi_2 \cup \Phi_3$. Here, $\Phi_1=\{q^2:q\equiv 1\pmod{4}\mbox{ is a prime power}\}$, $\Phi_2=\{n^4\in \mathbb{N}:n\equiv 1\pmod{2}\} \cup \{9n^4\in \mathbb{N}:n\equiv 1\pmod{2}\}$, $\Phi_3=\{5\}$ and $\Phi_4=\{13,37\}$. Moreover, our construction also yields new Hadamard matrices of order $8(uv+1)$ for any $u\in \Phi_1\cup \Phi_2$ and $v\in \Phi_1\cup \Phi_2 \cup \Phi_3$.

A characterization of complex Hadamard matrices appearing in families of MUB triplets

Abstract:It is shown that a normalized complex Hadamard matrix of order $6$ having three distinct columns, each containing at least one $-1$ entry necessarily belongs to the transposed Fourier family, or to the family of $2$-circulant complex Hadamard matrices. The proofs rely on solving polynomial system of equations by Gröbner basis techniques, and make use of a structure theorem concerning regular Hadamard matrices. As a consequence, members of these two families can be easily recognized in practice. In particular, one can identify complex Hadamard matrices appearing in known triplets of pairwise mutually unbiased bases in dimension $6$.

Abstract:In this paper we disprove the Haagerup statement that all complex Hadamard matrices of order five are equivalent with the Fourier matrix $F_5$ by constructing circulant matrices that lead to new Hadamard matrices. An important item is the construction of new mutually unbiased bases that are a basic concept of quantum theory and play an essential role in quantum tomography, quantum cryptografy, teleportation, construction of dense coding schemes, classical signal proccesing, etc.

Abstract:Local operations of combinatorial structures (graphs, Hadamard matrices, codes, designs) that maintain the basic parameters unaltered, have been widely used in the literature under the name of switching. We show an equivalence between two switching methods to construct inequivalent Hadamard matrices, which were proposed by Orrick [SIAM Journal on Discrete Mathematics, 2008], and the switching method for constructing cospectral graphs which was introduced by Godsil and McKay [Aequationes Mathematicae, 1982].

Abstract:Centraliser algebras of monomial representations of finite groups may be constructed and studied using methods similar to those employed in the study of permutation groups. Guided by results of D. G. Higman and others, we give an explicit construction for a basis of the centraliser algebra of a monomial representation. The character table of this algebra is then constructed via character sums over double cosets. We locate the theory of group-developed and cocyclic-developed Hadamard matrices within this framework. We apply Gröbner bases to produce a new classification of highly symmetric complex Hadamard matrices.

Abstract:In this work, we construct $4$-phase Golay complementary sequence (GCS) set of cardinality $2^{3+\lceil \log_2 r \rceil}$ with arbitrary sequence length $n$, where the $10^{13}$-base expansion of $n$ has $r$ nonzero digits. Specifically, the GCS octets (eight sequences) cover all the lengths no greater than $10^{13}$. Besides, based on the representation theory of signed symmetric group, we construct Hadamard matrices from some special GCS to improve their asymptotic existence: there exist Hadamard matrices of order $2^t m$ for any odd number $m$, where $t = 6\lfloor \frac{1}{40}\log_{2}m\rfloor + 10$.

Abstract:In this work, we study some algebraic aspects of combined matrices $\mathcal{C}(A)$, where the entries of $A$ belongs to a number field $K$ and $A$ is a non singular matrix. In other words, $A$ is a $n\times n$ belonging to the General Linear Group over $K$ denoted by $\mathrm{GL}_n(K)$. Also we analyze the case in which the matrix $A$ belongs to algebraic subgroups of $\mathrm{GL}_n(K)$ such as unimodular group, that is $A^2$ is a $n\times n$ belonging to the Special Linear Group denoted by $\mathrm{SL}_n(K)$, Triangular groups, Diagonal groups among others. In particular, we analyze entirely the case $n=2$ giving explicitely the diagonalization of $\mathcal{C}(A)$, that includes characteristic polynomials, eigenvalues and eigenfactors.
