Abstract:We prove an asymptotic for the second moment of quadratic twists of a modular -function. This was previously known conditionally on GRH by the work of Soundararajan and Young (J. Eur. Math. Soc. 12(5):1097–1116, 2010).

Abstract:We consider the moment of quadratic twists of the Möbius function of the form \[ S_k(X,Y) = \sum_{d\leq X} \left( \sum_{n\leq Y} \left(\frac{8d}{n}\right) \mu(n)\right)^k, \] where $\left(\frac{8d}{\cdot}\right)$ is the Kronecker symbol and $d$ runs over positive, odd and square-free integers. We give unconditional results for their asymptotic behaviors.

Abstract:In this paper, we establish an asymptotic formula for the twisted second moments of Dirichlet $L$-functions with one and two twists when averaged over all primitive Dirichlet characters of modulus $R$, where $R$ is a monic polynomial in $\mathbb{F}_q[T]$. The main result in this paper generalizes the work of Djanković [`The reciprocity law for the twisted second moment of Dirichlet $L$-functions over rational function fields', Bull. Aust. Math. Soc. 98 (2018), no. 3, 382--388].

Abstract:We prove an asymptotic formula with four main terms for the fourth moment of quadratic Dirichlet $L$-functions unconditionally. Our proof is based on the work of Li , Soundararajan, and Soundararajan-Young. Our proof requires several new ingredients. These include a modified large sieve estimate for quadratic characters where we consider a fourth moment, rather than a second, as well as observing cross cancellations between diagonal and off-diagonal terms, which involves somewhat delicate combinatorial arguments.

Abstract:We give an asymptotic formula with power saving error term for the twisted first moment of symmetric square L-functions on GL(3) in the level aspect. As applications, we obtain non-vanishing results as well as lower bounds of the expected order of magnitude for all even moments, supporting the random matrix model for a unitary ensemble. Besides the GL(3) Kuznetsov formula, the ingredients include detailed local computations at ramified places, including root numbers and orthonormalization of oldforms and Eisenstein series.

Our main result is an asymptotic formula with an error term of size that is the square root of that of the main term.

Abstract:Let $E: y^2=x(x-a^2)(x+b^2)$ be an elliptic curve with full $2$-torsion group, where $a$ and $b$ are coprime integers and $2(a^2+b^2)$ is a square. Assume that the $2$-Selmer group of $E$ has rank two. We characterize all quadratic twists of $E$ with Mordell-Weil rank zero and $2$-primary Shafarevich-Tate groups $(\mathbb Z/2\mathbb Z)^2$, under certain conditions. We also obtain a distribution result of these elliptic curves.

Abstract:In the present paper, we prove, for a large class of elliptic curves defined over $\mathbb{Q}$, the existence of an explicit infinite family of quadratic twists with analytic rank $0$. In addition, we establish the $2$-part of the conjecture of Birch and Swinnerton-Dyer for many of these infinite families of quadratic twists. Recently, Xin Wan has used our results to prove for the first time the full Birch--Swinnerton-Dyer conjecture for some explicit infinite families of elliptic curves defined over $\mathbb{Q}$ without complex multiplication.

For elliptic curves $E/\mathbb{Q}$, writing $E_D$ for the quadratic twist by $D$, we consider the question of how often $E(\mathbb{Q})$ and $E_D(\mathbb{Q})$ generate $E(\mathbb{Q}(\sqrt{D}))$. We bound the proportion of $E/\mathbb{Q}$, ordered by height, for which this is not the case, showing that it is very small for typical $D$.

Abstract:In this paper we study asymptotic moment of fourth power twisted Kloosterman sum. We write this moment as weighted sums of Hurwitz class numbers and to obtain the asymptotic moment formula we use the theory of harmonic Maass forms and Mock modular forms. As a result, we further obtain asymptotic averages of certain families of hypergeometric functions over large finite fields.

Abstract:For a given elliptic curve E in short Weierstrass form, we show that almost all quadratic twists E_D have no integral points, as D ranges over square-free integers ordered by size. Our result is conditional on a weak form of the Hall-Lang conjecture in the case that E has partial 2-torsion. The proof uses a correspondence of Mordell and the reduction theory of binary quartic forms in order to transfer the problem to counting rational points of bounded height on a certain singular cubic surface, together with extensive use of cancellation in character sum estimates, drawn from Heath-Brown's analysis of Selmer group statistics for the congruent number curve.

Abstract:For a given irreducible and monic polynomial $f(x) \in \mathbb{Z}[x]$ of degree $4$, we consider the quadratic twists by square-free integers $q$ of the genus one quartic ${H\, :\, y^2=f(x)}$ \[ H_q \, :\, qy^2=f(x). \] We say that a curve $C$ is everywhere locally soluble (ELS) if it has a solution in $\mathbb{R}$ and in $\mathbb{Q}_p$ for every prime $p$ (i.e. if $C(\mathbb{R})\neq \emptyset$ and $C(\mathbb{Q}_p)\neq \emptyset$ for all primes $p$). Let $L=\{q\in \mathbb{N} :\, q \text{ is square-free and } H_q \text{ is ELS}\}$ denote the set of positive square-free integers $q$ for which $H_q$ is everywhere locally soluble. For a real number $x$ let ${L(x)= \#\{q\in L:\, q<x\}}$ be the number of elements in $L$ that are less then $x$. Furthermore, let us denote with \[ F(s)=\sum_{n \in L} \frac{1}{n^s} \] the corresponding Dirichlet's series of the set $L$. In this paper, we obtain that \[ L(x) = c_f \frac{x}{(\ln{x})^{m}}+O\left(\frac{x}{(\ln{x})^\alpha}\right) \] for some constants $c_f$, $m$ and $\alpha$ only depending on $f$ such that $m<\alpha \leq 1+m$. We also express the Dirichlet's series $F(s)$ via Dedekind's zeta functions of certain number fields.

Abstract:Radziwill and Soundararajan unveiled a connection between low-lying zeros and central values of $L$-functions, which they instantiated in the case of quadratic twists of an elliptic curve. This paper addresses the case of the family of modular forms in the level aspect, and proves that the logarithms of central values of associated L-functions approximately distribute along a normal law with mean -(1/2)log log c(f) and variance log log c(f), where c(f) is the analytic conductor of f, as predicted by the Keating-Snaith conjecture.
