Abstract:This paper introduces a visibility relation $v$ (and the strong visibility relation $\mathop{v}\limits^{\doublewedge}$) on proximal Delaunay meshes. A main result in this paper is that the visibility relation $v$ is equivalent to Wallman proximity. In addition, a Delaunay triangulation region endowed with the visibility relation $v$ has a local Leader uniform topology.

Abstract:This paper introduces Edelsbrunner-Harer nerve in collections of Voronoi regions (called nucleus clusters) endowed with one or more proximity relations. The main results in this paper are that a maximal nucleus cluster (MNC) in a Voronoi Tessellation is a strongly proximal Edelsbrunner-Harer nerve, each MNC nerve and the union of the sets in the MNC have the same homotopy type.

Abstract:We provide comparison principles for convex functions through its proximal mappings. Consequently, we prove that the norm of the proximal operator determines a convex the function up to a constant. A new characterization of Lipschitzianity in terms of the proximal operator is given.

Abstract:The maximal monotonicity notion in Banach spaces is extended to Riemannian manifolds of nonpositive sectional curvature, Hadamard manifolds, and proved to be equivalent to the upper semicontinuity. We consider the problem of finding a singularity of a multivalued vector field in a Hadamard manifold and present a general proximal point method to solve that problem, which extends the known proximal point algorithm in Euclidean spaces. We prove that the sequence generated by our method is well defined and converges to a singularity of a maximal monotone vector field, whenever it exists. Applications in minimization problems with constraints, minimax problems and variational inequality problems, within the framework of Hadamard manifolds, are presented.

Abstract:We prove the Voronoi conjecture for five-dimensional parallelohedra. Namely, we show that if a convex five-dimensional polytope $P$ tiles $\mathbb{R}^5$ with translations, then $P$ is an affine image of the Dirichlet-Voronoi polytope for a five-dimensional lattice.

Abstract:We aim to give a strict proof of the existence and uniqueness of the weighted Voronoi decomposition and the dual weighted Delaunay triangulation on Euclidean and hyperbolic polyhedral surface as well as hyperbolic surface with geodesic boundaries. Since the former definition of the Voronoi cell may not be simply connected, we slightly adjust the definition. Our proof is to construct an isotopic map instead of using the edge-flipping algorithm, which is a generalization of the one by Dyer et al. The main theorem of this paper is a lemma for proving the existence of the inversive distance circle packing.

Abstract:Abstract For any sequence of properly convex domains in the real projective plane such that the zeros of Pick differentials have bounded multiplicity and get further and further apart, we determine all Hausdorff limit domains that one can obtain after normalizing each member of the sequence by a projective transformation. We then show that the result can be applied to convex domains generated by projective triangular reflection groups.

Abstract:Variational analysis presents a unified theory encompassing in particular both smoothness and convexity. In a Euclidean space, convex sets and smooth manifolds both have straightforward local geometry. However, in the most basic hybrid case of feasible regions consisting of pre-images of convex sets under maps that are once (but not necessarily twice) continuously differentiable, the geometry is less transparent. We define a new approximate convexity property, that holds both for such feasible regions and also for all prox-regular sets. This new property requires that nearby points can always be joined by smooth feasible paths that are almost straight. In particular, in the terminology of real algebraic geometry, such feasible regions are locally normally embedded in the Euclidean space.

Abstract:Generalized polyhedral convex optimization problems in locally convex Hausdorff topological vector spaces are studied systematically in this paper. We establish solution existence theorems, necessary and sufficient optimality conditions, weak and strong duality theorems. In particular, we show that the dual problem has the same structure as the primal problem, and the strong duality relation holds under three different sets of conditions.

Abstract:We prove that the nearest point retraction of a region P, not the whole plane, to its dome is long-range bilipschitz if and only if P is uniformly perfect. From this we prove that P uniformly perfect is necessary and sufficient for the existence of a K-quasiconformal map from P to its dome which extends to be the identity on the boundary and is finite distance to the nearest point retraction. Thus our work extends the classic theorem of Sullivan for simply-connected regions to regions of arbitrary connectivity. In particular, our study results in a simple, transparent proof of the original theorem.

Abstract:We prove a general combination theorem for discrete subgroups of $\mathrm{PGL}(n,\mathbb{R})$ preserving properly convex open subsets in the projective space $\mathbb{P}(\mathbb{R}^n)$, in the spirit of Klein and Maskit. We use it in particular to prove that a free product of two $(\mathbb{Z}$-)linear groups is again ($\mathbb{Z}$-)linear, and to construct Zariski-dense discrete subgroups of $\mathrm{PGL}(n,\mathbb{R})$ which are not lattices but contain a lattice of a smaller higher-rank simple Lie group. We also establish a version of our combination theorem for discrete groups that are convex cocompact in $\mathbb{P}(\mathbb{R}^n)$ in the sense of <a class="link-https" data-arxiv-id="1704.08711" href="https://arxiv.org/abs/1704.08711">arXiv:1704.08711</a>. In particular, we prove that a free product of two convex cocompact groups is convex cocompact, which implies that the free product of two Anosov groups is Anosov. We also prove a virtual amalgamation theorem over convex cocompact subgroups generalizing work of Baker-Cooper.

One of the main findings of the paper can be stated as follows: "Let $P_1(x_1,y_1),\cdots ,P_n(x_n,y_n)$ are $n$ distinct points ($n\geq3$) with $x_1<\cdots<x_n$. We show that in a plane if any $n$ points are scattered in such a way that their horizontal and vertical distances preserve some specific monotonic properties; then those points form a $2$-dimensional convex polytope.

Abstract:In this thesis we study sets of points in the plane and their Voronoi diagrams, in particular when the points coincide. We bring together two ways of studying point sets that have received a lot of attention in recent years: Voronoi diagrams and compactifications of configuration spaces. We study moving and colliding points and this enables us to introduce `limit Voronoi diagrams'. We define several compactifications by considering geometric properties of pairs and triples of points. In this way we are able to define a smooth, real version of the Fulton-MacPherson compactification. We show how to define Voronoi diagrams on elements of these compactifications and describe the connection with the limit Voronoi diagrams.

Ideal Poisson--Voronoi tessellations beyond hyperbolic spaces

Abstract:We construct and study the ideal Poisson--Voronoi tessellation of the product of two hyperbolic planes $\mathbb{H}_{2}\times \mathbb{H}_{2}$ endowed with the $L^{1}$ norm. We prove that its law is invariant under all isometries of this space and study some geometric features of its cells. Among other things, we prove that the set of points at equal separation to any two corona points is unbounded almost surely. This is analogous to a recent result of Frączyk-Mellick-Wilkens for higher rank symmetric spaces.

Unbounded Regions of High-Order Voronoi Diagrams of Lines and Line Segments in Higher Dimensions

Abstract:We study the behavior at infinity of the farthest and the higher-order Voronoi diagram of n line segments or lines in a d-dimensional Euclidean space. The unbounded parts of these diagrams can be encoded by a Gaussian map on the sphere of directions S d - 1 . We show that the combinatorial complexity of the Gaussian map for the order-k Voronoi diagram of n line segments and lines is O ( min { k , n - k } n d - 1 ) , which is tight for n - k = O ( 1 ) . This exactly reflects the combinatorial complexity of the unbounded features of these diagrams. All the d-dimensional cells of the farthest Voronoi diagram are unbounded, its ( d - 1 ) -skeleton is connected, and it does not have tunnels. A d-cell of the Voronoi diagram is called a tunnel if the set of its unbounded directions, represented as points on its Gaussian map, is not connected. In a three-dimensional space, the farthest Voronoi diagram of n ≥ 2 lines in general position has exactly n ( n - 1 ) three-dimensional cells. The Gaussian map of the farthest Voronoi diagram of line segments and lines can be constructed in O ( n d - 1 α ( n ) ) time, for d ≥ 4 , while if d = 3 , the time drops to worst-case optimal Θ ( n 2 ) . We extend the obtained results to bounded polyhedra and clusters of points as sites.
Uniform resonance free regions for convex cocompact hyperbolic surfaces and expanders

Abstract:We prove that every family of coverings of any infinite-area, convex cocompact hyperbolic surface has uniform spectral gap, provided that the associated Schreier graphs form a family of two-sided expanders. This extends the results of Brooks, Burger, and Bourgain-Gamburd-Sarnak to a setting where the Laplacian has no $L^2$-eigenvalues. In particular, the notion of spectral gap needs to be redefined in terms of the resonances of the Laplacian. As an immediate corollary, we obtain uniform spectral gap for congruence covers of convex cocompact surfaces, a result previously established by Oh-Winter and Bourgain-Kontorovich-Magee. Moreover, given any convex cocompact hyperbolic surface $X$, we provide a new "universal" resonance-free region for $X$, by which we mean a region in the complex plane that contains no resonances for any finite cover of $X$. This enlarges the universal resonance-free region given by Magee-Naud. Our methods rely on the thermodynamic formalism for twisted Selberg zeta functions.
