Abstract:In this paper, new model for charges distribution is discussed. It is proved that a small charge inside a conductor, no force acts. charge, which is located on the border resistant to small perturbations. The minimum energy of a photon, which could push the electron from the conductor is estimated.

Abstract:Studying noncommuting conserved quantities, or 'charges,' has revealed a conceptual puzzle: noncommuting charges hinder thermalization in some ways yet promote it in others. While many quantum systems thermalize according to the Eigenstate Thermalization Hypothesis (ETH), systems with 'dynamical symmetries' violate the ETH and exhibit non-stationary dynamics, preventing them from equilibrating, much less thermalizing. We demonstrate that each pair of dynamical symmetries corresponds to a specific charge. We find that introducing new charges that do not commute with existing ones disrupts these symmetries, thereby eliminating non-stationary dynamics and facilitating thermalization. We illustrate this behavior across various models, including the Hubbard model and Heisenberg spin chains. Our findings demonstrate that noncommuting charges can enhance thermalization by reducing the number of local observables that thermalize according to the ETH.

Abstract:Recently, some discussions arose as to the definition of charge and the value of the density of charge in stationary-current-carrying conductors. We stress that the problem of charge definition comes from a misunderstanding of the usual definition. We provide some theoretical elements which suggest that positive and negative charge densities are equal in the frame of the positive ions.

Abstract:A solid ionic conductor with cation conductivity in the interelectrode region is studied. Due to their large size, the anions are considered fixed and form a homogeneous neutralizing electric background. The model can be used to describe properties of ceramic conductors. For a statistical mechanical description of such systems, which are characterized by short-range Van der Waals interactions and long-range Coulomb interactions, an approach combining the collective variables method and the method of mean cell potentials is used. This formalism was applied in our previous work [Bokun G., Kravtsiv I., Holovko M., Vikhrenko V., Di Caprio D., Condens. Matter Phys., 2019, 29, 3351] to a homogeneous state and in the present work is extended to an inhomogeneous case induced by an external electric field. As a result, mean cell potentials become functionals of the density field and can be described by a closed system of integral equations. We investigate the solution of this problem in the lattice approximation and study charge and electric field distributions in the interelectrode region as functions of plate electrode charges. The differential electric capacitance is subsequently calculated and discussed.

Abstract:We consider graphs made of one-dimensional wires connected at vertices, and on which may live a scalar potential. We are interested in a scattering situation where such a network is connected to infinite leads. We study the correlations of the charge in such graphs out of equilibrium, as well as the distribution of the currents in the wires, inside the graph. These quantities are related to the scattering matrix of the graph. We discuss the case where the graph is weakly connected to the wires.

Abstract:When an uncharged conductor is moved to the electric field produced by a point charge,there will be induced charge distribuion on the surface of the conductor.It is proved that for conductor with arbitrary shape,the interaction energy between the point charge and the conductor is half of the coulomb interaction energy between the point charge and image charges.Furthermore a very simple understanding to this result is provided.

Abstract:A laboratory experiment often performed in an introductory electricity and magnetism course involves the mapping of equipotential lines on a conductive sheet between two objects at different potentials. In this article, we describe how we have expanded this experiment so that it can be used to illustrate the electrostatic properties of conductors. Different configurations of electrodes can be used to show that the electric field is zero inside a conductor as well as within a cavity, the electric field is perpendicular to conducting surfaces, and the charge distribution on conducting surfaces can vary.
Finite temperature fermionic charge and current densities in conical space with a circular edge

Abstract:We study the finite temperature and edge induced effects on the charge and current densities for a massive spinor field localized on a 2D conical space threaded by a magnetic flux. The field operator is constrained on a circular boundary, concentric with the cone apex, by the bag boundary condition and by the condition with the opposite sign in front of the term containing the normal to the edge. In two-dimensional spaces there exist two inequivalent representations of the Clifford algebra and the analysis is presented for both the fields realizing those representations. The circular boundary divides the conical space into two parts, referred as interior (I-) and exterior (E-) regions. The radial current density vanishes. The edge induced contributions in the expectation values of the charge and azimuthal current densities are explicitly separated in the both regions for the general case of the chemical potential. They are periodic functions of the magnetic flux and odd functions under the simultaneous change of the signs of magnetic flux and chemical potential. In the E-region all the spinorial modes are regular and the total charge and current densities are continuous functions of the magnetic flux. In the I-region the corresponding expectation values are discontinuous at half-integer values of the ratio of the magnetic flux to the flux quantum. 2D fermionic models, symmetric under the parity and time-reversal transformations (in the absence of magnetic fields) combine two spinor fields realizing the inequivalent representations of the Clifford algebra. The total charge and current densities in those models are discussed for different combinations of the boundary conditions for separate fields. Applications are discussed for electronic subsystem in graphitic cones described by the 2D Dirac model.

Abstract:We present a theoretical approach to study the dynamics of spherical, cylindrical and ellipsoidal charge distributions under their self-Coulomb field and a stochastic force due to collisions and random motions of charged particles. The approach is based on finding the current density of the charge distribution from the charge-current continuity equation and determining the drift velocities of the particles. The latter can be used either to derive the Lagrangian of the system, or to write Newton's equation of motion with the Lorentz force. We develop a kinetic theory to include the stochastic force due to random motions of electrons in our model. To demonstrate the efficacy of our method, we apply it to various charge distributions and compare our results to N-body simulations. We show that our method reproduces the well-known emittance term in the envelope equation of uniform spherical and cylindrical charge distributions with correct coefficients. We use our model for the gravitational collapse of an ideal gas as well as the cyclotron dynamics of a cylindrical charge distribution in a uniform magnetic field and propose a method to measure the emittance of electron beams.

Abstract:The charging of small neutral and charged particles suspended in a weakly ionized plasma is investigated under the assumption that the Coulomb + image forces affect the ion transport in the carrier plasma and define the rate of charging processes. Our approach is based on a solution of the collisionless kinetic equation describing the ion transport in the presence of force fields created by the particle charge and the image force. The exact free-molecule ion distribution over coordinates and velocities is used for calculating the rate of ion deposition onto neutral and charged dielectric particles. Our approach easily reproduces well-known results for metallic particles and allows us to derive rather simple expressions for the charging efficiencies of dielectric particles. Our theory is applicable either for particles whose sizes are much smaller than the ion mean free path (the charging of neutral particles) or when the ion mean free path much exceeds the Coulomb length (the distance at which the ion thermal and Coulomb's energy become comparable (ion–particle recombination)).

Abstract:In this work, we present an explanation of the electric charge quantization based on a semi-classical model of electrostatic fields. We claim that in electrostatics, an electric charge must be equal to a rational multiple of the elementary charge of an electron. However, the charge is quantized if the system has certain boundary conditions that force the wavefunction representing an electric field to vanish at specific surfaces. Next, we develop the corresponding model for the electric displacement vector. It is demonstrated that a number of classical results, e.g. bending of field lines at the interface of two dielectric media, method of images, etc. are all consistent with the predictions of this model. We also present the possible form of Gauss's law or (Poisson's equation), to find the wavefunctions of the field from a source charge distribution, in this model.

Abstract:We study charge fluctuations in single-file dynamics with general charge measures. The exact finite-time distribution of charge fluctuations is obtained in terms of a dressing transformation acting on the finite-time distribution of particle fluctuations. The transformation is mapped to a simple substitution rule for corresponding full-counting statistics. By taking the asymptotics of the dressing transformation we analyze typical and large scale charge fluctuations. Typical charge fluctuations in equilibrium states with vanishing mean charge are anomalous while large charge fluctuations undergo first and second order dynamical phase transitions out of equilibrium.

Abstract:The effect of an electrostatic field existing, for example, in plasma on the resonant charge exchange at collision velocities significantly lower than the charge exchange electron velocity is estimated using the small-radius potential model. It is established that the application of a field with a sufficient magnitude leads to a decrease in the charge exchange cross section. For example, in the case of the H– + H → H + H– reaction, a field of ∼107 V/cm decreases the charge exchange cross section by an order of magnitude.

Abstract:The distribution of counterions and the electrostatic interaction between two similarly charged dielectric slabs is studied in the strong coupling limit. Dielectric inhomogeneities and discreteness of charge on the slabs have been taken into account. It is found that the amount of dielectric constant difference between the slabs and the environment, and the discreteness of charge on the slabs have opposing effects on the equilibrium distribution of the counterions. At small inter-slab separations, increasing the amount of dielectric constant difference increases the tendency of the counterions toward the middle of the intersurface space between the slabs and the discreteness of charge pushes them to the surfaces of the slabs. In the limit of point charges, independent of the strength of dielectric inhomogeneity, counterions distribute near the surfaces of the slabs. The interaction between the slabs is attractive at low temperatures and its strength increases with the dielectric constant difference. At room temperature, the slabs may completely attract each other, reach to an equilibrium separation or have two equilibrium separations with a barrier in between, depending on the system parameters.

Abstract:Realistic charged macromolecules are characterized by discrete (rather than homogeneous) charge distributions. We investigate the effects of surface charge discretization on the counterion distribution at the level of mean-field theory using a two-state model. Both planar and cylindrical geometries are considered; for the latter case, we compare our results to numerical solutions of the full Poisson-Boltzmann equation. We find that the discretization of the surface charge can cause enhanced localization of the counterions near the surface; for charged cylinders, counterion condensation can exceed Oosawa-Manning condensation.
Elementary Charge Transfer Processes in Mesoscopic Conductors

Abstract:We determine charge transfer statistics in a quantum conductor driven by a time-dependent voltage and identify the elementary transport processes. At zero temperature unidirectional and bidirectional single charge transfers occur. The unidirectional processes involve electrons injected from the source terminal due to excess dc bias voltage. The bidirectional processes involve electron-hole pairs created by time-dependent voltage bias. This interpretation is further supported by the charge transfer statistics in a multiterminal beam splitter geometry in which injected electrons and holes can be partitioned into different outgoing terminals. The probabilities of elementary processes can be probed by noise measurements: the unidirectional processes set the dc noise level while bidirectional ones give rise to the excess noise. For ac voltage drive, the noise oscillates with increasing the driving amplitude. The decomposition of the noise into the contributions of elementary processes identifies the origin of these oscillations: the number of electron-hole pairs generated per cycle increases with increasing the amplitude. The decomposition of the noise into elementary processes is studied for different time-dependent voltages. The method we use is also suitable for systematic calculation of higher-order current correlators at finite temperature. We obtain current noise power and the third cumulant in the presence of time-dependent voltage drive. The charge transfer statistics at finite temperature can be interpreted in terms of multiple charge transfers with probabilities which depend on energy and temperature.

Charge Relaxation Resistances and Charge Fluctuations in Mesoscopic Conductors

Abstract:A brief overview is presented of recent work which investigates the time-dependent relaxation of charge and its spontaneous fluctuations on mesoscopic conductors in the proximity of gates. The leading terms of the low frequency conductance are determined by a capacitive or inductive emittance and a dissipative charge relaxation resistance. The charge relaxation resistance is determined by the ratio of the mean square dwell time of the carriers in the conductor and the square of the mean dwell time. The contribution of each scattering channel is proportional to half a resistance quantum. We discuss the charge relaxation resistance for mesoscopic capacitors, quantum point contacts, chaotic cavities, ballistic wires and for transport along edge channels in the quantized Hall regime. At equilibrium the charge relaxation resistance also determines via the fluctuation-dissipation theorem the spontaneous fluctuations of charge on the conductor. Of particular interest are the charge fluctuations in the presence of transport in a regime where the conductor exhibits shot noise. At low frequencies and voltages charge relaxation is determined by a nonequilibrium charge relaxation resistance.

Abstract:We consider a nonstationary array of conductors, connected by resistances that fluctuate with time. The charge transfer between a particular pair of conductors is supposed to be dominated by "electrical breakdowns" -- the moments when the corresponding resistance is close to zero. An amount of charge, transferred during a particular breakdown, is controlled by the condition of minimum for the electrostatic energy of the system. We find the conductivity, relaxation rate, and fluctuations for such a system within the "classical approximation", valid, if the typical transferred charge is large compared to $e$. We discuss possible realizations of the model for colloidal systems and arrays of polymer-linked grains.

Abstract:Recently it was shown that it is possible for a neutral, isolated conductor to repel a point charge (or, a point dipole). Here we prove this fact using general properties of vectors and operators in an inner-product space. We find that a family of neutral, isolated conducting surface geometries, whose shape lies somewhere between a hemispherical bowl and an ovoid, will repel a point charge. In addition, we find another family of surfaces (with a different shape) that will repel a point dipole. The latter geometry can lead to Casimir repulsion.
