Abstract:We give a characterization of a contact metric manifold as a special almost contact metric manifold and discuss an almost contact metric manifold which is {a} natural generalization of the contact metric manifolds introduced by Y. Tashiro.

What problem does this paper attempt to address?
The problem that this paper attempts to solve is: **Generalize contact metric manifolds and study the properties and characteristics of this generalized structure - quasi - contact metric manifolds.** Specifically, the authors hope: 1. **Give the characteristics of contact metric manifolds**: Define and describe contact metric manifolds through specific geometric conditions. 2. **Introduce and discuss quasi - contact metric manifolds**: This is a naturally generalized almost - contact metric manifold, which is closely related to the contact metric manifolds introduced by Tashiro. 3. **Explore the relationships between these manifolds**: In particular, their relationships with complex geometric objects such as Kähler manifolds and almost - Kähler manifolds. ### Main content of the paper - **Definitions and background**: - A contact manifold is a smooth manifold \(M\) with a global 1 - form \(\eta\) such that \(\eta\wedge(d\eta)^n\neq0\). - A contact metric manifold is further equipped with a Riemannian metric \(g\) and a \((1, 1)\)-tensor field \(\phi\) satisfying specific conditions. - **Generalization to quasi - contact metric manifolds**: - Quasi - contact metric manifolds are defined by considering the corresponding almost - Hermitian manifold \(\bar{M}=M\times\mathbb{R}\). - Specifically, if \(\bar{M}\) is a quasi - Kähler manifold, then \(M\) is called a quasi - contact metric manifold. - **Main results**: - Specific conditions for quasi - contact metric manifolds are given, such as formula (C1): \[ (\nabla_X\phi)Y+(\nabla_{\phi X}\phi)\phi Y = 2g(X, Y)\xi-\eta(Y)X-\eta(X)\eta(Y)\xi-\eta(Y)hX \] - The differences and connections between quasi - contact metric manifolds and contact metric manifolds are proved, especially whether there exist non - contact - metric quasi - contact metric manifolds in high - dimensional cases. ### Conclusion Through the study of contact metric manifolds and their generalizations, this paper not only deepens the understanding of these geometric structures but also provides a theoretical basis for further exploring broader geometric problems. In particular, the authors pose an open question: Does there exist a quasi - contact metric manifold with dimension greater than or equal to 5 that is not a contact metric manifold? This question points the way for future research.
