Abstract:I will give a discussion of the conditions involved in Treves' conjecture on analytic hypoellipticity. I will discuss some microlocally characteristic sets and introduce a topology of monotropic functionals as suitable for solving the conjecture. The pseudodifferential operator representation is inspired by Cousin.

Abstract:Let $-\im\Lie_\T$ (essentially Lie derivative with respect to $\T$, a smooth nowhere zero real vector field) and $P$ be commuting differential operators, respectively of orders 1 and $m\geq 1$, the latter formally normal, both acting on sections of a vector bundle over a closed manifold. It is shown that if $P+(-i\Lie_\T)^m$ is elliptic then the restriction of $-\im\Lie_\T$ to $\Dom\subset \ker P\subset L^2$ yields a selfadjoint operator $-\im\Lie_\T|_\Dom:\Dom\subset\ker P\to \ker P$ with compact resolvent ($\Dom$ is specified carefully). It is also shown that, in the presence of an additional hypothesis on microlocal hypoellipticity of $P$, $-\im\Lie_\T|_\Dom$ is semi-bounded. These results are applied to CR manifolds on which $\T$ acts as an infinitesimal CR transformation which are then shown to yield versions of Kodaira's vanishing theorem.

Abstract:We extend the circle of ideas from a previous paper on hypersurfaces to functions $f \colon (\mathbb C^n, 0) \to (\mathbb C^k, 0)$ with an isolated singularity in a stratified sense on an arbitrary, but fixed complex analytic germ $(X, 0)$. An extension of Tib{\u a}r's Bouquet Theorem to this setup allows for a topological definition of Milnor numbers $\mu(\alpha; f)$ for each stratum $V^\alpha$ of $X$ and we prove several formulas which compute these numbers as (alternating) sums of certain ``homological indices''. The main technical result at work in the background is a local Riemann-Roch type theorem, relating a topological obstruction to holomorphic Euler characteristics.

Abstract:For a hypersurface isolated singularity, we verify that the Tjurina spectrum depends only on the complex analytic hypersurface germ. This is reduced to the analytic version of a theorem of Mustata and Popa on the coincidence of the Hodge ideals with the microlocal $V$-filtration modulo the ideal of the hypersurface (using the Deligne extension). We then give a proof of a conjecture of Q. Shi, Y. Wang and H. Zuo claiming that the maximal spectral number of a complex hypersurface isolated singularity is not a member of the Tjurina spectrum. This follows from the self-duality of the Jacobian ring, since the latter is compatible with the action of $f$ as well as the $V$-filtration. We also provide a sufficient condition for the generalized Hertling conjecture on the variance of Tjurina spectrum to fail, and calculate certain examples using some codes in Singular.

Abstract:We survey some properties of a class of curves lying on certain elliptic ruled surfaces, studied by A. Treibich and J.L. Verdier in connection with elliptic solitons and KP equations. In particular we discuss their Brill-Noether generality, proved by A. Treibich, and we show that they are limits of hyperplane sections of K3 surfaces.

Abstract:Trivially-acting symmetries in two-dimensional conformal field theory include twist fields of dimension zero which are local topological operators. We investigate the consequences of regarding these operators as part of the global symmetry of the theory. That is, we regard such a symmetry as a mix of topological defect lines (TDLs) and topological point operators (TPOs). TDLs related by a trivially-acting symmetry can join at a TPO to form non-trivial two-way junctions. Upon gauging, the local operators at those junctions can become vacua in a disjoint union of theories. Examining the behavior of the TPOs under gauging therefore allows us to refine decomposition by tracking the trivially-acting symmetries of each universe. Mixed anomalies between the TDLs and TPOs provide discrete torsion-like phases for the partition functions of these orbifolds, modifying the resulting decomposition. This framework also readily allows for the consideration of trivially-acting non-invertible symmetries.

Abstract:This article gives a fundamental discussion on variable coefficients, self-adjoint, formally partially hypoelliptic differential operators. A generalization of the results to pseudo differential operators, is given in a following article in ArXiv. Close to N. Nilsson "Some estimates for spectral functions connected with formally hypoelliptic differential operators" in Arkiv för matematik ,10, 1972, we give a construction and estimates for a fundamental solution to the operator in a suitable topology. We further give estimates of the corresponding spectral kernel.

Abstract:The quantization of the mirror curve to a toric Calabi-Yau threefold gives rise to quantum-mechanical operators, whose fermionic spectral traces produce factorially divergent power series in the Planck constant. These asymptotic expansions can be promoted to resurgent trans-series. They show infinite towers of periodic singularities in their Borel plane and infinitely many rational Stokes constants, which are encoded in generating functions expressed in closed form in terms of $q$-series. We provide an exact solution to the resurgent structure of the first fermionic spectral trace of the local $\mathbb{P}^2$ geometry in the semiclassical limit of the spectral theory, corresponding to the strongly-coupled regime of topological string theory on the same background in the conjectural TS/ST correspondence. Our approach straightforwardly applies to the dual weakly-coupled limit of the topological string. We present and prove closed formulae for the Stokes constants as explicit arithmetic functions and for the perturbative coefficients as special values of known $L$-functions, while the duality between the two scaling regimes of strong and weak string coupling constant appears in number-theoretic form. A preliminary numerical investigation of the local $\mathbb{F}_0$ geometry unveils a more complicated resurgent structure with logarithmic sub-leading asymptotics. Finally, we obtain a new analytic prediction on the asymptotic behavior of the fermionic spectral traces in an appropriate WKB double-scaling regime, which is captured by the refined topological string in the Nekrasov-Shatashvili limit.

Abstract:Let \mathbb{K} be an algebraically closed field, X a smooth projective variety over \mathbb{K} and f \colon X\rightarrow X a dominant regular morphism. Let N^{i}(X) be the group of algebraic cycles, of codimension i , modulo numerical equivalence. Let \chi (f) be the spectral radius of the pullback f^{*} \colon H^{*}(X,\mathbb{Q}_{l})\rightarrow H^{*}(X,\mathbb{Q}_{l}) on l -adic cohomology groups, and \lambda (f) the spectral radius of the pullback f^{*} \colon N^{*}(X)\rightarrow N^{*}(X) . We prove in this paper, by using consequences of Deligne's proof of Weil's Riemann hypothesis, that \chi (f)=\lambda (f) . This answers affirmatively a question posed by Esnault and Srinivas. Consequently, the algebraic entropy \log \chi (f) of an endomorphism is both a birational invariant and étale invariant. More general results are proven if either \mathbb{K}=\bar{\mathbb{F}}_{p} or the Standard Conjecture D holds (this applies specially to Abelian varieties). Among other results in the paper, we show that if some properties of dynamical degrees, known in the case \mathbb{K}=\mathbb{C} , hold in positive characteristics, then simple proofs of Weil's Riemann hypothesis follow. More generally, the analogy in positive characteristic of Serre's famous result on polarized endomorphisms of compact Kähler manifolds also follows.

On the Number of Connected Components of T-Hypersurfaces

Abstract:A T-hypersurface is a combinatorial hypersurface of the real locus of a projective toric variety $Y$. It is constructed from a primitive triangulation $K$ of a moment polytope $P$ of $Y$ and a $0$-cochain $\varepsilon$ on $K$ with coefficients in the field with two elements $\mathbb{F}_2$, called a sign distribution. O. Viro showed that when $K$ is convex the T-hypersurface is ambiantly isotopic to a real algebraic hypersurface of $Y$. A. Renaudineau and K. Shaw gave upper bounds on the Betti numbers of T-hypersurfaces in terms of the Hodge numbers of a generic section of the ample line bundle $L$ associated with the moment polytope. In particular, the number of connected components of a T-hypersurface cannot exceed the geometric genus of a generic section of $L$ plus one. In this article we investigate whether this upper bound is attainable. We are able to characterise the couples $(K;\varepsilon)$ leading to T-hypersurfaces realising the Renaudineau-Shaw upper bound on the number of connected components. This theorem generalises B. Haas' theorem for T-curves. In contrast with this results we find that the upper bound is not always attainable on every primitive triangulations. For some of those on which it is not attainable we provide a sharper upper bound. Finally we use our characterisation to show that there always exists a triangulation and a sign distribution on the standard simplex that reach the Renaudineau-Shaw upper bound. We also study the growth of the expected number of connected components of a T-hypersurface as we dilate the moment polytope by $d$ (i.e. we tensorise the line bundle $d$-times with itself) and show that it is always of the order of $d^n$ where $n$ is the dimension of $P$.

Abstract:In the first part of this paper, we introduce the notion of "cyclic stratum" of a Frobenius manifold $M$. This is the set of points of the extended manifold $\mathbb C^*\times M$ at which the unit vector field is a cyclic vector for the isomonodromic system defined by the flatness condition of the extended deformed connection. The study of the geometry of the complement of the cyclic stratum is addressed. We show that at points of the cyclic stratum, the isomonodromic system attached to $M$ can be reduced to a scalar differential equation, called the "master differential equation" of $M$. In the case of Frobenius manifolds coming from Gromov-Witten theory, namely quantum cohomologies of smooth projective varieties, such a construction reproduces the notion of quantum differential equation. In the second part of the paper, we introduce two multilinear transforms, called "Borel-Laplace $(\boldsymbol \alpha,\boldsymbol\beta)$-multitransforms", on spaces of Ribenboim formal power series with exponents and coefficients in an arbitrary finite dimensional $\mathbb C$-algebra $A$. When $A$ is specialized to the cohomology of smooth projective varieties, the integral forms of the Borel-Laplace $(\boldsymbol \alpha,\boldsymbol\beta)$-multitransforms are used in order to rephrase the Quantum Lefschetz Theorem. This leads to explicit Mellin-Barnes integral representations of solutions of the quantum differential equations for a wide class of smooth projective varieties, including Fano complete intersections in projective spaces. In the third and final part of the paper, as an application, we show how to use the new analytic tools, introduced in the previous parts, in order to study the quantum differential equations of Hirzebruch surfaces. This finally leads to the proof of Dubrovin Conjecture for all Hirzebruch surfaces.

Abstract:We study the mapping properties of a large class of elliptic operators $P_T$ in gluing problems where two non-compact manifolds with asymptotically cylindrical geometry are glued along a neck of length $2T$. In the limit where $T \rightarrow \infty$, we reduce the question of constructing approximate solutions of $P_T u = f$ to a finite-dimensional linear system, and provide a geometric interpretation of the obstructions to solving this system. Under some assumptions on the real roots of the model operator $P_0$ on the cylinder, we construct a Fredholm inverse for $P_T$ with good control on the growth of its norm. As applications of our method, we study the decay rate and density of the low eigenvalues of the Laplacian acting on differential forms, and give improved estimates for compact $G_2$-manifolds constructed by twisted connected sum. We relate our results to the swampland distance conjectures in physics.

Abstract:We propose a generalisation of the Moore-Tachikawa varieties for the case in which the target category of the 2D TFT is a hyperk$\ddot{\text{a}}$hler quotient. The setup requires generalising the bordism operators of Moore and Segal to the case involving lack of reparametrisation-invariance on the Riemann surface, ultimately enabling to relate this to the issue of defining a Drinfeld center for composite class ${\cal S}$ theories.

Abstract:We describe an application of tropical moduli spaces to complex dynamics. A post-critically finite branched covering $\varphi$ of $S^2$ induces a pullback map on the Teichm\"uller space of complex structures of $S^2$; this descends to an algebraic correspondence on the moduli space of point-configurations of $\mathbb{C}\mathbb{P}^1$. We make a case for studying the action of the tropical moduli space correspondence by making explicit the connections between objects that have come up in one guise in tropical geometry and in another guise in complex dynamics. For example, a Thurston obstruction for $\varphi$ corresponds to a ray that is fixed by the tropical moduli space correspndence, and scaled by a factor $\ge 1$. This article is intended to be accessible to algebraic and tropical geometers as well as to complex dynamicists.

Abstract:Double trace deformations, that is products of two local operators, define perturbations of conformal field theories that can be studied exactly in the large-N limit. Even when the double trace deformation is irrelevant in the infrared, it is believed to flow to an ultraviolet fixed point. In this note we define the Källen-Lehmann representation of the two-point function of a local operator O in a theory perturbed by the square of such operator. We use such representation to discover potential pathologies at intermediate points in the flow that may prevent to reach the UV fixed point. We apply the method to an “extremal” deformation that naively would flow to a UV fixed point where the operator O would saturate the unitarity bound Δ=d2−1$$ \varDelta =\frac{d}{2}-1 $$. We find that the UV fixed point is not conformal and that the deformed two-point function propagates unphysical modes. We interpret the result as showing that the flow to the UV fixed point does not exist. This resolves a potential puzzle in the holographic interpretation of the deformation.

Abstract:We describe the local and Steenbrink vanishing problems for singular symplectic varieties with isolated singularities. We do this by constructing a morphism $$\mathbb D_X(\underline \Omega_X^{n+p}) \to \underline \Omega_X^{n+p}$$ for a symplectic variety $X$ of dimension $2n$ for $\frac{1}{2}\mathrm{codim}_X(X_{\mathrm{sing}}) < p$, where $\underline \Omega_X^k$ is the $k^{th}$-graded piece of the Du Bois complex and $\mathbb D_X$ is the Grothendieck duality functor. We show this morphism is a quasi-isomorphism when $p = n-1$ and that this symmetry descends to the Hodge filtration on the intersection Hodge module. As applications, we describe the higher Du Bois and higher rational properties for symplectic germs and the cohomology of primitive symplectic 4-folds.

Abstract:In this paper, we prove a trace regularity theorem for the solutions of general linear partial differential equations with smooth coefficients. Our result shows that by imposing additional microlocal smoothness along certain directions, the trace of the solution on a codimension-one hypersurface will be just as regular as the solution itself. The proof is based on the Hormander-Nirenberg pseudo-differential cut-off technique and a 'fattening' lemma, together with standard energy estimates.
