Abstract:To explore the resource utilization of fly ash, slag, and coal gangue, the hydration products composition and strength characteristics of fly ash-slag composite cementitious material (FSGF) were studied using NaOH as an alkali activator. First, the response surface analysis method was used to determine the factors that affect the optimal NaOH content and the dosage and length of basalt fibers to obtain the complete mixture ratio of the composite cementitious material. Microscopic testing techniques such as XRD, FTIR, TG-DSC, and SEM were used to analyze the crystal structure, thermal chemical properties, and micro-morphology of the composite cementitious material and to investigate the mechanism of the NaOH-activated fly ash-slag composite cementitious material. The results showed that the sensitivity sequence of each factor on the mechanical properties of the composite cementitious material was as follows: NaOH content > basalt fiber length > basalt fiber dosage; there were different degrees of interaction among them. When the mass ratio of fly ash, slag, and coal gangue was 5:1:4, NaOH was 3% of the cementitious material, basalt fiber dosage was 2%, and the fiber length was 3 mm. Further, the compressive strength of the composite material reached 8.97 MPa after 28 days of normal temperature curing of the slurry. NaOH, as an alkali activator, provided the strongly alkaline environment necessary for the initial hydration of fly ash-slag composite cementitious materials, driving the strongly alkali-activated slag and fly ash to undergo hydration reactions. The distribution of hydration products in the fly ash-slag composite cementitious system was uneven, mainly composed of gel mixtures such as C-S-H, C-A-H, and C-A-S-H. NaOH performed excellently as an alkali activator in the fly ash-slag system.
