Abstract:In this paper we generalize and specialize generating functions for classical orthogonal polynomials, namely Jacobi, Gegenbauer, Chebyshev and Legendre polynomials. We derive a generalization of the generating function for Gegenbauer polynomials through extension a two element sequence of generating functions for Jacobi polynomials. Specializations of generating functions are accomplished through the re-expression of Gauss hypergeometric functions in terms of less general functions. Definite integrals which correspond to the presented orthogonal polynomial series expansions are also given.

Abstract:In this paper, we highlight the role played by orthogonal and symplectic Harish-Chandra integrals in the study of real-valued matrix product ensembles. By making use of these integrals and the matrix-valued Fourier-Laplace transform, we find the explicit eigenvalue distributions for particular Hermitian anti-symmetric matrices and Hermitian anti-self dual matrices, involving both sums and products. As a consequence of these results, the eigenvalue probability density function of the random product structure [Formula: see text], where each [Formula: see text] is a standard real Gaussian matrix, and [Formula: see text] is a real anti-symmetric matrix can be determined. For [Formula: see text] and [Formula: see text] the bidiagonal anti-symmetric matrix with 1’s above the diagonal, this reclaims results of Defosseux. For general [Formula: see text], and this choice of [Formula: see text], or [Formula: see text] itself a standard Gaussian anti-symmetric matrix, the eigenvalue distribution is shown to coincide with that of the squared singular values for the product of certain complex Gaussian matrices first studied by Akemann et al. As a point of independent interest, we also include a self-contained diffusion equation derivation of the orthogonal and symplectic Harish-Chandra integrals.

Abstract:Expressions for the derivatives with respect to order of modified Bessel functions evaluated at integer orders and certain integral representations of associated Legendre functions with modulus argument greater than unity are used to compute derivatives of the associated Legendre functions with respect to their parameters. For the associated Legendre functions of the first and second kind, derivatives with respect to the degree are evaluated at odd-half-integer degrees, for general complex orders, and derivatives with respect to the order are evaluated at integer orders, for general complex degrees.

Abstract:Using the integral representations of the solutions of Schrödinger equation, which are the essential ingredients of the Gel'fand-Levitan and Marchenko integral equations of inverse scattering theory, we obtain a general theorem on the positivity of some integral transforms, and extend the theorem of Bochner on Fourier transforms of functions of positive type to more general transforms. The present study is restricted to the positive half-axis. We then obtain a theorem on the positivity of Fourier cosine transform of the phase-shifts.

General Berndt-Type Integrals and Series Associated with Jacobi Elliptic Functions

Abstract:In this paper, we prove two structural theorems on the general Berndt-type integrals with the denominator having arbitrary positive degrees by contour integrations involving hyperbolic and trigonometric functions, and hyperbolic sums associated with Jacobi elliptic functions. We first establish explicit relations between these integrals and four classes of hyperbolic sums. Then, using our previous results on hyperbolic series and applying the matrix method from linear algebra, we compute explicitly several general hyperbolic sums and their higher derivatives. These enable us to express two families of general Berndt-type integrals as polynomials in $\Gamma^4(1/4)$ and $\pi^{-1}$ with rational coefficients, where $\Gamma$ is the Euler gamma function. At the end of the paper, we provide some conjectures of general Berndt-type integrals.

Abstract:First we recall a method of computing scalar products of eigenfunctions of a Sturm-Liouville operator. This method is then applied to Macdonald and Gegenbauer functions, which are eigenfunctions of the Bessel, resp. Gegenbauer operators. The computed scalar products are well defined only for a limited range of parameters. To extend the obtained formulas to a much larger range of parameters, we introduce the concept of a generalized integral. The (standard as well as generalized) integrals of Macdonald and Gegenbauer functions have important applications to operator theory. Macdonald functions can be used to express the integral kernels of the resolvent (Green functions) of the Laplacian on the Euclidean space in any dimension. Similarly, Gegenbauer functions appear in Green functions of the Laplacian on the sphere and the hyperbolic space. In dimensions 1,2,3 one can perturb these Laplacians with a point potential, obtaining a well defined self-adjoint operator. Standard integrals of Macdonald and Gegenbauer functions appear in the formulas for the corresponding Green functions. In higher dimensions the Laplacian perturbed by point potentials does not exist. However, the corresponding Green function can be generalized to any dimension by using generalized integrals.

Abstract:In this paper we provide a unified approach to a family of integrals of Mellin--Barnes type using distribution theory and Fourier transforms. Interesting features arise in many of the cases which call for the application of pull-backs of distributions via smooth submersive maps defined by Hörmander. We derive by this method the integrals of Hecke and Sonine relating to various types of Bessel functions which have found applications in analytic and algebraic number theory.

Abstract:We consider a topological integral transform of Bessel (concentric isospectral sets) type and Fourier (hyperplane isospectral sets) type, using the Euler characteristic as a measure. These transforms convert constructible $\zed$-valued functions to continuous $\real$-valued functions over a vector space. Core contributions include: the definition of the topological Bessel transform; a relationship in terms of the logarithmic blowup of the topological Fourier transform; and a novel Morse index formula for the transforms. We then apply the theory to problems of target reconstruction from enumerative sensor data, including localization and shape discrimination. This last application utilizes an extension of spatially variant apodization (SVA) to mitigate sidelobe phenomena.

Abstract:This paper presents a generalization of the recent proposed Bessel-Legendre inequality, which is specifically derived for analyzing linear time delay systems. The proposed inequalities are able to handle almost all type of classical orthogonal polynomials such as Jacobi, Laguerre and Hermite. In utilizing Jacobi polynomials, numerous existing results can be treated as the special cases of the proposed inequalities. Furthermore, we show that it is possible to apply these inequalities simultaneously to derive lower bounds for Krasovskii functionals, thus less conservative results can be obtained. Finally, the resulting inequalities have been briefly extended to handle the systems with fast time varying delays. Two numerical examples are presented to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed inequalities.

Abstract:In this paper we evaluate integrals of products of gamma functions of Ramanujan type in terms of bilateral hypergeometric series. In cases where the bilateral hypergeometric series are summable, then we evaluate these integral as beta integrals. In addition, we obtain integral representations for bilateral hypergeometric series.

Abstract:The evaluation of an integral of the product of Laguerre polynomials was discussed recently in this Journal by Mavromatis [12] (1990) and Lee [9] (1997) [see also Ong and Lee [14] (2000)]. The main object of the present sequel to these earlier works is to consider a family of such integrals of the products of Laguerre, Hermite, and other classical orthogonal polynomials in a systematic and unified manner. Relevant connections of some of these integral formulas with various known integrals, as well as the computational and numerical aspects of the results presented here, are also pointed out.

Abstract:We address a class of definite integrals known as Berndt-type integrals, highlighting their role as specialized instances within the integral representation framework of the Barnes-zeta function. Building upon the foundational insights of Xu and Zhao, who adeptly evaluate these integrals using rational linear combinations of Lambert-type series and derive closed-form expressions involving products of $\Gamma^4(1/4)$ and $\pi^{-1}$, we uncover direct evaluations of the Barnes-zeta function. Moreover, our inquiry leads us to establish connections between Berndt-type integrals and Jacobi elliptic functions, as well as moment polynomials investigated by Lomont and Brillhart, a relationship elucidated through the seminal contributions of Kuznetsov. In this manner, we extend and integrate these diverse mathematical threads, unveiling deeper insights into the intrinsic connections and broader implications of Berndt-type integrals in special function and integration theory.

Abstract:In this present paper we derive a six dimensional integral containing the product of the Associated Legendre Polynomials $P_v^u(x) P_{\nu }^{\mu }(y)$ where the indices are different and general. Included in the kernel of this integral is the generalized logarithmic function and coefficient logarithmic functions. The derivation of this integral is written in terms of the Hurwitz-Lerch zeta function and constant coefficients raised to a power. Special cases of this integral are derived in terms of fundamental constants and other special functions. All the results in this work are new.

Abstract:Building upon the recent works of Bertola; Fasondini, Olver and Xu, we define a class of orthogonal polynomials on elliptic curves and establish a corresponding Riemann–Hilbert framework. We then focus on the special case, defined by a constant weight function, and use the Riemann–Hilbert problem to derive recurrence relations and differential equations for the orthogonal polynomials. We further show that the sub-class of even polynomials is associated to the elliptic form of Painlevé VI, with the tau function given by the Hankel determinant of even moments, up to a scaling factor. The first iteration of these even polynomials relates to the special case of Painlevé VI studied by Hitchin in relation to self-dual Einstein metrics.

Abstract:This paper uses the convolution theorem of the Laplace transform to derive new inverse Laplace transforms for the product of two parabolic cylinder functions in which the arguments may have opposite sign. These transforms are subsequently specialized for products of the error function and its complement thereby yielding new integral representations for products of the latter two functions. The transforms that are derived in this paper also allow to correct two inverse Laplace transforms that are widely reported in the literature and subsequently uses one of the corrected expressions to obtain two new definite integrals for the generalized hypergeometric function.
