Abstract:We develop the theory of topological radicals, and in particular the theory of the hypocompact radical. The results are applied for obtaining convenient formulas of calculation of the joint spectral radius of a precompact family of elements in a Banach algebra.

Abstract:In this paper we discuss the infinite-dimensional generalizations of the famous theorem of Berger-Wang (generalized Berger-Wang formulas) and give an operator-theoretic proof of I. Morris's theorem about coincidence of three essential joint spectral radius, related to these formulas. Further we develop Banach-algebraic approach based on the theory of topological radicals, and obtain some new results about these radicals.

Abstract:We develop the theory of topological radicals in Banach Lie algebras, consider various ways of constructing such radicals and study a family of (pre)radicals related to subalgebras and ideals of finite codimension in Banach Lie algebras. It extends to the infinite-dimensional case many results of the well known Frattini theory of Lie algebras.

Abstract:In this paper, we pursue three aims. The first one is to apply Amitsur's relations and radicals theory to the study of the lattices of closed two-sided ideals of C*-algebras A . We show that many new and many well-known results about C*-algebras follow naturally from this approach. To use "relation-radical" approach, we consider various subclasses of the class of all C*-algebras, which we call C*-properties, as they often linked to some properties of C*-algebras. Abstract:In this paper, we consider real and complex algebras as well as algebras over general fields. In Section 2, we revisit and prove several results on (quadratic) algebras over general fields. In Section 3, we show how to develop the spectral theory in the context of complex (resp. real) one-sided alternative topological algebras. As an application of the existence of spectrum, we prove the existence of nontrivial hyperinvariant linear manifolds for nonscalar (resp. nonquadratic) continuous linear operators acting on complex (resp. real) Fréchet spaces. Along the way, spectral theory is used to prove several topological counterparts of the well-known theorems of Frobenius, Hurwitz, Gelfand-Mazur, and Zorn. This is done, for example, in the context of left (resp. right) alternative topological algebras whose duals separate their elements. In Section 4, we consider real and complex algebras in various topological settings and reconsider and prove several results. For instance, it is shown that given a $ 1 < k \in \mathbb{N}$, on any locally complex algebra, there exists a unique nonzero vector space norm, say, $\|.\|$, satisfying the identity $\|a^k\| = \|a\|^k$ on the algebra. In Section 5, among other things, we revisit and slightly strengthen the celebrated theorems of Frobenius, Zorn, Gelfand-Mazur, and Hurwitz, and also give slight extensions of their topological counterparts, e.g., theorems of Albert, Kaplansky, and Urbanik-Wright to name a few, in several settings.

On the radicality property for spaces of symbols of bounded Volterra operators

Abstract:In a recent paper of the authors together with A. Aleman, it is shown that the Bloch space $\mathcal{B}$ in the unit disc has the following radicality property: if an analytic function $g$ satisfies that $g^n\in \mathcal{B}$, then $g^m\in \mathcal{B}$, for all $m\le n$. Since $\mathcal{B}$ coincides with the space $\mathcal{T}(A^p_\alpha)$ of analytic symbols $g$ such that the Volterra-type operator $T_gf(z)= \int_0^z f(\zeta)g'(\zeta)\,d\zeta$ is bounded on the classical weighted Bergman space $A^p_\alpha$, the radicality property was used to study the composition of paraproducts $T_g$ and $S_gf=T_fg$ on $A^p_{\alpha}$. Motivated by this fact, we prove that $\mathcal{T}(A^p_\omega)$ also has the radicality property, for any radial weight $\omega$. Unlike the classical case, the lack of a precise description of $\mathcal{T}(A^p_\omega)$ for a general radial weight, induces us to prove the radicality property for $A^p_\omega$ from precise norm-operator results for compositions of analytic paraproducts.

Abstract:Let $R$ be a Cohen-Macaulay local ring. In this paper, we first describe the radicals of annihilators of stable categories of maximal Cohen-Macaulay $R$-modules. We then prove that the Alexandrov topology of the stable category of maximal Cohen-Macaulay $R$-modules is compact provided that the completion of $R$ has an isolated singularity. Finally, we consider the case of a hypersurface of countable CM-representation type.

Hindman's finite sums theorem and its application to topologizations of algebras

Abstract:The first part of the paper is a brief overview of Hindman's finite sums theorem, its prehistory and a few of its further generalizations, and a modern technique used in proving these and similar results, which is based on idempotent ultrafilters in ultrafilter extensions of semigroups. The second, main part of the paper is devoted to the topologizability problem of a wide class of algebraic structures called polyrings; this class includes Abelian groups, rings, modules, algebras over a ring, differential rings, and others. We show that the Zariski topology of such an algebra is always non-discrete. Actually, a much stronger fact holds: if $K$ is an infinite polyring, $n$ a natural number, and a map $F$ of $K^n$ into $K$ is defined by a term in $n$ variables, then $F$ is a closed nowhere dense subset of the space $K^{n+1}$ with its Zariski topology. In particular, $K^n$ is a closed nowhere dense subset of $K^{n+1}$. The proof essentially uses a multidimensional version of Hindman's finite sums theorem established by Bergelson and Hindman. The third part of the paper lists several problems concerning topologization of various algebraic structures, their Zariski topologies, and related questions.

Abstract:We generalize the theory of radical factorization from almost Dedekind domain to strongly discrete Prüfer domains; we show that, for a fixed subset $X$ of maximal ideals, the finitely generated ideals with $\mathcal{V}(I)\subseteq X$ have radical factorization if and only if $X$ contains no critical maximal ideals with respect to $X$. We use these notions to prove that in the group $\mathrm{Inv}(D)$ of the invertible ideals of a strongly discrete Prüfer domains is often free: in particular, we show it when the spectrum of $D$ is Noetherian or when $D$ is a ring of integer-valued polynomials on a subset over a Dedekind domain.

Abstract:We define topologically semiperfect (complete, separated, right linear) topological rings and characterize them by equivalent conditions. We show that the endomorphism ring of a module, endowed with the finite topology, is topologically semiperfect if and only if the module is decomposable as an (infinite) direct sum of modules with local endomorphism rings. Then we study structural properties of topologically semiperfect topological rings and prove that their topological Jacobson radicals are strongly closed and the related topological quotient rings are topologically semisimple. For the endomorphism ring of a direct sum of modules with local endomorphism rings, the topological Jacobson radical is described explicitly as the set of all matrices of nonisomorphisms. Furthermore, we prove that, over a topologically semiperfect topological ring, all finitely generated discrete modules have projective covers in the category of modules, while all lattice-finite contramodules have projective covers in both the categories of modules and contramodules. We also show that the topological Jacobson radical of a topologically semiperfect topological ring is equal to the closure of the abstract Jacobson radical, and present a counterexample demonstrating that the topological Jacobson radical can be strictly larger than the abstract one. Finally, we discuss the problem of lifting idempotents modulo the topological Jacobson radical and the structure of projective contramodules for topologically semiperfect topological rings.

Abstract:Recently an exact duality between topological string and the spectral theory of operators constructed from mirror curves to toric Calabi-Yau threefolds has been proposed. At the same time an exact quantization condition for the cluster integrable systems associated to these geometries has been conjectured. The consistency between the two approaches leads to an infinite set of constraints for the refined BPS invariants of the toric Calabi-Yau threefolds. We prove these constraints for the $Y^{N,m}$ geometries using the $K$-theoretic blowup equations for $SU(N)$ SYM with generic Chern-Simons invariant $m$.

Abstract:This article explores the connection between radical isogenies and modular curves. Radical isogenies are formulas designed for the computation of chains of isogenies of fixed small degree $N$, introduced by Castryck, Decru, and Vercauteren at Asiacrypt 2020. One significant advantage of radical isogeny formulas over other formulas with a similar purpose is that they eliminate the need to generate a point of order $N$ that generates the kernel of the isogeny. While radical isogeny formulas were originally developed using elliptic curves in Tate normal form, Onuki and Moriya have proposed radical isogeny formulas of degrees $3$ and $4$ on Montgomery curves and attempted to obtain a simpler form of radical isogenies using enhanced elliptic and modular curves. In this article, we translate the original setup of radical isogenies in Tate normal form into the language of modular curves. Additionally, we solve an open problem introduced by Onuki and Moriya regarding radical isogeny formulas on $X_0(N).$

On the stable radical of the module category for special biserial algebras

Abstract:Suppose $\Lambda$ is a special biserial algebra over an algebraically closed field. Schröer showed that if $\Lambda$ is domestic then the radical of the category of finitely generated (left) $\Lambda$-modules is nilpotent, and the least ordinal, denoted $\mathrm{st}(\Lambda)$, where the decreasing sequence of powers of the radical stabilizes satisfies $\mathrm{st}(\Lambda)<\omega^2$. With Gupta and Sardar, the third author conjectured that if $\Lambda$ has at least one band then $\omega\le\mathrm{st}(\Lambda)<\omega^2$ even when $\Lambda$ is non-domestic. In this paper we settle this conjecture in the affirmative. We also describe an algorithm to compute $\mathrm{st}(\Lambda)$ up to a finite error. We also show that for each $\omega\leq\alpha<\omega^2$ there is a finite-dimensional tame representation type algebra $\Gamma$ with $\mathrm{st}(\Gamma)=\alpha$.
