Abstract:Abstract: Network Topology is an optimized design or an arrangement of the network including its nodes and the connecting lines. Being an arrangement of various components of network it helps us in defining the layout of structure of network like communication with another node or point effortlessly. It presents not only physical framework but also logical connections too. With the understanding of physical topology, we can easily get to know that where do we have to install the cable and nodes, whereas logical topology explains the flow of data and its transmission. Keeping this in view, a review has been done about various network topologies. In this work, network connectivity has been discussed with the help of graph theory and advantages, disadvantages of various network topologies are also explained.

Abstract:Network theory is the study of graphs such as representing equilibrium relationships or unequal relationships between different objects. A network can be defined as a graph where nodes and / or margins have attributes (e.g. words). Topological index of a graph is a number that helps to understand its topology and a topological index is known as irregularity index if it is greater than zero and topological index of graph is equal to zero if and only if graph is regular. The irregularity indices are used for computational analysis of nonregular graph topological composition. In this paper, we aim to compute topological invariants of some computer related graph networks. We computed various irregularities indices for the graphs of OTIS swapped network $OP_a$ and Biswapped Networks $Bsw(Pa).$

Abstract:SIAM Journal on Discrete Mathematics, Volume 38, Issue 2, Page 1630-1675, June 2024. We define the [math]-cut complex of a graph [math] with vertex set [math] to be the simplicial complex whose facets are the complements of sets of size [math] in [math] inducing disconnected subgraphs of [math]. This generalizes the Alexander dual of a graph complex studied by Fröberg [Topics in Algebra, Part 2, PWN, Warsaw, 1990, pp. 57–70] and Eagon and Reiner [J. Pure Appl. Algebra, 130 (1998), pp. 265–275]. We describe the effect of various graph operations on the cut complex and study its shellability, homotopy type, and homology for various families of graphs, including trees, cycles, complete multipartite graphs, and the prism [math], using techniques from algebraic topology, discrete Morse theory, and equivariant poset topology.

The Topological Behavior of Preferential Attachment Graphs

Abstract:We investigate the higher-order connectivity of scale-free networks using algebraic topology. We model scale-free networks as preferential attachment graphs, and we study the algebraic-topological properties of their clique complexes. We focus on the Betti numbers and the homotopy-connectedness of these complexes. We determine the asymptotic almost sure orders of magnitude of the Betti numbers. We also establish the occurence of homotopical phase transitions for the infinite complexes, and we determine the critical thresholds at which the homotopy-connectivity changes. This partially verifies Weinberger's conjecture on the homotopy type of the infinite complexes. We conjecture that the mean-normalized Betti numbers converge to power-law distributions, and we present numerical evidence. Our results also highlight the subtlety of the scaling limit of topology, which arises from the tension between topological operations and analytical limiting process. We discuss such tension at the end of the Introduction.

Topological Drawings meet Classical Theorems from Convex Geometry

Abstract:In this article we discuss classical theorems from Convex Geometry in the context of topological drawings and beyond. In a simple topological drawing of the complete graph $K_n$, any two edges share at most one point: either a common vertex or a point where they cross. Triangles of simple topological drawings can be viewed as convex sets. This gives a link to convex geometry. As our main result, we present a generalization of Kirchberger's Theorem that is of purely combinatorial nature. It turned out that this classical theorem also applies to "generalized signotopes" - a combinatorial generalization of simple topological drawings, which we introduce and investigate in the course of this article. As indicated by the name they are a generalization of signotopes, a structure studied in the context of encodings for arrangements of pseudolines. We also present a family of simple topological drawings with arbitrarily large Helly number, and a new proof of a topological generalization of Carathéodory's Theorem in the plane and discuss further classical theorems from Convex Geometry in the context of simple topological drawings.

Graphical models for topological groups: A case study on countable Stone spaces

Abstract:By analogy with the Cayley graph of a group with respect to a finite generating set or the Cayley-Abels graph of a totally disconnected, locally compact group, we introduce countable connected graphs associated to Polish groups that we term Cayley-Abels-Rosendal graphs. A group admitting a Cayley-Abels-Rosendal graph acts on it continuously, coarsely metrically properly and cocompactly by isometries of the path metric. By an expansion of the Milnor-Schwarz lemma, it follows that the group is generated by a coarsely bounded set and the group equipped with (a suitably compatible alteration of) a word metric with respect to a coarsely bounded generating set and the graph are quasi-isometric. In other words, groups admitting Cayley-Abels-Rosendal graphs are topological analogues of the finitely generated groups. Our goal is to introduce this topological perspective to a geometric group theorist. We apply these concepts to homeomorphism groups of countable Stone spaces. We completely characterize when these homeomorphism groups are coarsely bounded, when they are locally bounded (all of them are), and when they admit a Cayley-Abels-Rosendal graph, and if so produce a coarsely bounded generating set.

The Landscape of Complex Networks

Abstract: Topological landscape is introduced for networks with functions defined on the nodes. By extending the notion of gradient flows to the network setting, critical nodes of different indices are defined. This leads to a concise and hierarchical representation of the network. Persistent homology from computational topology is used to design efficient algorithms for performing such analysis. Applications to some examples in social and biological networks are demonstrated, which show that critical nodes carry important information about structures and dynamics of such networks.

Abstract:To every directed graph $E$ one can associate a \emph{graph inverse semigroup} $G(E)$, where elements roughly correspond to possible paths in $E$. These semigroups generalize polycylic monoids, and they arise in the study of Leavitt path algebras, Cohn path algebras, Cuntz-Krieger $C^*$-algebras, and Toeplitz $C^*$-algebras. We investigate topologies that turn $G(E)$ into a topological semigroup. For instance, we show that in any such topology that is Hausdorff, $G(E)\setminus \{0\}$ must be discrete for any directed graph $E$. On the other hand, $G(E)$ need not be discrete in a Hausdorff semigroup topology, and for certain graphs $E$, $G(E)$ admits a $T_1$ semigroup topology in which $G(E)\setminus \{0\}$ is not discrete. We also describe, in various situations, the algebraic structure and possible cardinality of the closure of $G(E)$ in larger topological semigroups.

Abstract:When characterizing networks structurally, the discriminating ability of a topological index is crucial. This relates to investigate its discrimination power (also called uniqueness or degeneracy) that indicates how meaningful the given measure can distinguish nonisomorphic networks. Assume G is a connected graph. The Szeged complexity (or briefly Sz -complexity) of a graph G is the number of different portions in the Szeged index formula. Also, the Wiener complexity (or briefly W -complexity) can be defined similarly. In the current work, we study graphs with small Sz -complexity. We characterize trees with Sz -complexity two and bicyclic graphs with Sz -complexity one. In this way, first we introduce some graphs with Sz -complexity one. For instance, we investigate Θ-graph and two categories of k -cyclic graphs. Besides, we classify bicyclic graphs with Sz -complexity equal to the number of edge-orbits. Finally, we determine W -complexity of these graphs.

Abstract:In this paper we compare quasi graphs and generalized $\sin(1/x)$-type continua - two classes that generalize topological graphs and contain the Warsaw circle as a non-trivial element. We show that neither class is the subset of the other, provide the characterization and present illustrative examples. We unify both approaches by considering the class of tranched graphs, connect it with objects found in literature and describe how the topological structure of its elements restricts possible dynamics.

Abstract:Initial designs of P2P systems such as Napster, Gnutella and Freenet have significant scaling problems. Recently several research groups have independently proposed a new generation of topology-aware P2P systems to support scalable routing and location schemes. As the P2P architecture is becoming popular and more systems are introduced, we feel it necessary to propose an abstract and generic topological model that captures the essence of P2P architecture. Such model should in return facilitate the exploitation of the new design space for more novel P2P systems. We also proposed a modified cube-connected cycles as a P2P overlay network. This is the first overlap network that has ever been amazingly found to achieve O(log N) path length with O(1)

Abstract:As data structures and mathematical objects used for complex systems modeling, hypergraphs sit nicely poised between on the one hand the world of network models, and on the other that of higher-order mathematical abstractions from algebra, lattice theory, and topology. They are able to represent complex systems interactions more faithfully than graphs and networks, while also being some of the simplest classes of systems representing topological structures as collections of multidimensional objects connected in a particular pattern. In this paper we discuss the role of (undirected) hypergraphs in the science of complex networks, and provide a mathematical overview of the core concepts needed for hypernetwork modeling, including duality and the relationship to bicolored graphs, quantitative adjacency and incidence, the nature of walks in hypergraphs, and available topological relationships and properties. We close with a brief discussion of two example applications: biomedical databases for disease analysis, and domain-name system (DNS) analysis of cyber data.

Abstract:Without leaving finite mathematics and using finite topological spaces only, we give a definition of homeomorphisms of finite abstract simplicial complexes or finite graphs. Besides exploring the definition in various contexts, we add some remarks like that the general Lefschetz formula works for any continuous map on any finite topological space. We also noted that any higher order Wu characteristic as well as their cohomology are topological invariants which are not homotopy invariants. Energy theorems allow to express these topological invariants in terms of interaction energies of local open sets.
