Abstract:In this paper we propose {\it a region choice problem} for a knot projection. This problem is an integral extension of Shimizu's 'region crossing change unknotting operation.' We show that there exists a solution of the region choice problem for all knot projections.

Abstract:Given a function f > 0 on the unit sphere n +1 , the Minkowski problem in the sphere concerns the existence of convex hypersurfaces M subset of(n +1) such that the Gauss curvature of M at z is equal to f (v( z )), where v(z) is the unit outer normal of M at z . We use the min-max principle and the Gauss curvature flow to prove that there are at least two solutions to the problem. By using the rotating plane method in the sphere, we also show the existence of a rotationally symmetric and monotone function f such that there are exactly two solutions.

Abstract:In a recent work of Ayaka Shimizu, she studied an operation named region crossing change on link diagrams, which was proposed by Kishimoto, and showed that a region crossing change is an unknotting operation for knot diagrams. In this paper, we prove that the region crossing change on a 2-component link diagram is an unknotting operation if and only if the linking number of the diagram is even. Besides, we define an incidence matrix of a link diagram via its signed planar graph and its dual graph. By studying the relation between region crossing change and incidence matrix, we prove that a signed planar graph represents an n-component link diagram if and only if the rank of the associated incidence matrix equals c − n + 1, where c denotes the size of the graph.

Abstract:Using Boolean algebra, we discuss the region unknotting number of a knot, and show that the region unknotting number is less than or equal to (c+1)/2 for any knot with crossing number c. This is a progress from (c+2)/2.

Abstract:It is shown that the projection image of an oriented spatial arc to any oriented plane is approximated by a unique arc diagram (up to isomorphic arc diagrams) determined from the spatial arc and the projection. In a separated paper, the knotting probability of an arc diagram is defined as an invariant under isomorphic arc diagrams. By combining them, the knotting probability of every oriented spatial arc is defined.

Abstract:The Kakeya problem in $\mathbb{R}^n$ is about estimating the size of union of $k$-planes; the projection problem in $\mathbb{R}^n$ is about estimating the size of projection of a set onto every $k$-plane ($1\le k\le n-1$). The $k=1$ case has been studied on general manifolds in which $1$-planes become geodesics, while $k\ge 2$ cases were still only considered in $\mathbb{R}^n$. We formulate these problems on homogeneous spaces, where $k$-planes are replaced by $k$-dimensional totally geodesic submanifolds. After formulating the problem, we prove a sharp estimate for Grassmannians.

Isolated regions of a link projection

Abstract:A set of regions of a link projection is said to be isolated if any pair of regions in the set share no crossings. The isolate-region number of a link projection is the maximum value of the cardinality for isolated sets of regions of the link projection. In this paper, all the link projections of isolate-region number one are determined. Also, estimations for welded unknotting number and combinatorial way to find the isolate-region number are discussed, and a formula of the generating function of isolated-region sets is given for the standard projections of $(2, n)$-torus links.

Abstract:We define an involutive version of Khovanov homology and a pair of integer-valued invariants $(\underline{s}, \bar{s})$ for strongly invertible knots, which is an equivariant version of the Rasmussen invariant $s$. Using these invariants, we show that there is an infinite family of knots $J_n$ admitting exotic pairs of slice disks. Our construction is intended to give a Khovanov-theoretic analogue of the formalism given by Dai, Mallick and Stoffregen in knot Floer theory.

Abstract:The region select game, introduced by Ayaka Shimizu, Akio Kawauchi and Kengo Kishimoto, is a game that is played on knot diagrams whose crossings are endowed with two colors. The game is based on the region crossing change moves that induce an unknotting operation on knot diagrams. We generalize the region select game to be played on a knot diagram endowed with $k$-colors at its vertices for $2 \leq k \leq \infty$.

Abstract:Reductivity of knot projections refers to the minimum number of splices of double points needed to obtain reducible knot projections. Considering the type and method of splicing (Seifert type splice or non-Seifert type splice, recursively or simultaneously), we can obtain four reductivities containing Shimizu's reductivity, three of which are new. In this paper, we determine knot projections with reductivity two for all four of the definitions. We also provide easily calculated lower bounds for some reductivities. Further, we detail properties of each reductivity, and describe relationships among the four reductivities with examples.

Abstract:For any integer n, Taniyama and Tsukamoto described a Tn - inevitable regular projection of a planar graph in [5], where the planar graph is constructed by regular pentagons. The authors extend the conclusion and show that all of the planar graphs constructed by regular polygons with odd number (≥5 ) of edges also have Tn - inevitable regular projections. Moreover, a new Tn - inevitable regular projection of such planar graphs and some related results are also given.
On knot types of clean Lagrangian intersections in $T^*\mathbb{R}^3$

Abstract:Let $K_0$ and $K$ be knots in $\mathbb{R}^3$. Suppose that by a compactly supported Hamiltonian isotopy on $T^*\mathbb{R}^3$, the conormal bundle of $K_0$ is isotopic to a Lagrangian submanifold which intersects the zero section cleanly along $K$. In this paper, we prove some constraints on the pair of knot types of $K_0$ and $K$. One example is that if $K_0$ is the unknot, then $K$ is also the unknot. We also consider some cases where $K_0$ and $K$ have specific knot types, such as torus knots and connected sums of trefoil knots. The key step is finding a DGA map between the Chekanov-Eliashberg DGAs of the unit conormal bundles of knots. The main results are deduced from a relation between the augmentation varieties of $K_0$ and $K$ determined by these DGAs.

Abstract:An $n$-crossing is a point in the projection of a knot where $n$ strands cross so that each strand bisects the crossing. An übercrossing projection has a single $n$-crossing and a petal projection has a single $n$-crossing such that there are no loops nested within others. The übercrossing number, $\text{ü}(K)$, is the smallest $n$ for which we can represent a knot $K$ with a single $n$-crossing. The petal number is the number of loops in the minimal petal projection. In this paper, we relate the übercrossing number and petal number to well-known invariants such as crossing number, bridge number, and unknotting number. We find that the bounds we have constructed are tight for $(r, r+1)$-torus knots. We also explore the behavior of übercrossing number under composition.

Abstract:Journal of Knot Theory and Its Ramifications, Volume 33, Issue 08, July 2024. We obtain a localized version of the configuration space integral for the Casson knot invariant, where the standard symmetric Gauss form is replaced with a locally supported form. An interesting technical difference between the arguments presented here and the classical arguments is that the vanishing of integrals over hidden and anomalous faces does not require the well-known "involution tricks". The integral formula easily yields the well-known arrow diagram expression for regular knot diagrams, first presented in the work by Polyak and Viro. Moreover, it yields an arrow diagram count for the multicrossing knot diagrams, such as petal diagrams and gives a new lower bound for the übercrossing number. Previously, the known arrow diagram formulas were applicable only to the regular knot diagrams.

Abstract:<h2>Abstract</h2><p>We study methods for computing the bridge number of a knot from a knot diagram. We prove equivalence between a geometric and a combinatorial definition of the bridge number of a knot diagram. For each notion of diagrammatic bridge number considered, we find crossing number minimizing knot diagrams which fail to minimize bridge number. Furthermore, we construct a family of minimal crossing diagrams for which the difference between diagrammatic bridge number and the actual bridge number of the knot grows to infinity.</p>

Abstract:In this paper we provide a computer assisted proof that about two thousand surgeries far away from the ideal point in the hyperbolic Dehn filling space of the figure-eight knot complement are infinitesimally projectively rigid. We also prove that for projective deformations of the figure-eight knot complement sufficiently close to the complete hyperbolic structure, the induced map on the first cohomology of the longitude of the boundary torus is non-zero. This paper provides a complementary piece to the results of Heusener and Porti who showed that for each k in Z, there is a sufficiently large Nk for which every k/n-Dehn filling on the figure-eight knot complement for n larger than Nk is infinitesimally projectively rigid. In the process of the proof, we provide explicit representations of the figure-eight knot complement in PSO(3,1) which are rational in the real and imaginary parts of the shapes of the ideal tetrahedra used to glue the knot complement together.

Abstract:Journal of Knot Theory and Its Ramifications, Volume 33, Issue 09, August 2024. The [math]-trace of a knot is the [math]-manifold represented by the [math]-framing of the knot. In this paper, we survey methods constructing a pair of knots with diffeomorphic [math]-traces. In particular, we focus on Gompf–Miyazaki's dualizable pattern, Abe–Jong–Omae–Takeuchi's band presentation, and RGB-diagram given by Piccirillo and named by the author, and we draw the relations among these methods directly. As an application, we give a sufficient condition that two knots obtained by Abe–Jong–Omae–Takeuchi's method coincide.

Abstract:We resolve a conjecture of Fässler and Orponen on the dimension of exceptional projections to one-dimensional subspaces indexed by a space curve in $\mathbb{R}^3$. We do this by obtaining sharp $L^p$ bounds for a variant of the Wolff circular maximal function over fractal sets for a class of $C^2$ curves related to Sogge's cinematic curvature condition. A key new tool is the use of lens cutting techniques from discrete geometry.
