Abstract:Here is a more detailed description of the algorithm proposed in [1]. This algorithm simultaneously uses two cryptographic procedures: encryption using a generalization of the Markovski algorithm [2] and encryption using a system of orthogonal operations. In this paper, we present an implementation of this algorithm based on T-quasigroups, more precisely, based on medial quasigroups.

Abstract:In this paper we propose two new types of compression functions, based on quasigroup string transformations. The first type uses known quasigroup string transformations, defined elsewhere, by changing alternately the transformation direction, going forward and backward through the string. Security of this design depends of the chosen quasigroup string transformation, the order of the quasigroup and the properties satisfied by the quasigroup operations. We illustrate how this type of compression function is applied in the design of the cryptographic hash function NaSHA. The second type of compression function uses new generic quasigroup string transformation, which combine two orthogonal quasigroup operations into a single one. This, in fact, is deployment of the concept of multipermutation for perfect generation of confusion and diffusion. One implementation of this transformation is by extended Feistel network FA,B,C which has at least two orthogonal mates as orthomorphisms: its inverse $$F^{-1}_{A,B,C}$$ and its square $$F^{2}_{A,B,C}$$.

The quantum algorithms of hidden subgroup problems are reviewed and the advantages of quantum algorithm over group are analyzed in the paper. This paper surveys the mod- ern cryptosystems that can be broken by quantum hidden subgroup algorithms in polynomial time. Abstract:In this paper, we propose a novel construction for a symmetric encryption scheme, referred as SEBQ which is based on the structure of quasigroup. We utilize concepts of chaining like mode of operation and present a block cipher with in-built properties. We prove that SEBQ shows resistance against chosen plaintext attack (CPA) and by applying unbalanced Feistel transformation [19], it achieves security against chosen ciphertext attacks (CCA). Subsequently, we conduct an assessment of the randomness of the proposed scheme by running the NIST test suite and we analyze the impact of the initial vector, secret key and plaintext on ciphertext through an avalanche effect analysis. We also compare the results with existing schemes based on quasigroups [11,46]. Moreover, we analyze the computational complexity in terms of number of operations needed for encryption and decryption process.

Abstract:Quantum-mechanical devices have the potential to transform cryptography. Most research in this area has focused either on the information-theoretic advantages of quantum protocols or on the security of classical cryptographic schemes against quantum attacks. In this work, we initiate the study of another relevant topic: the encryption of quantum data in the computational setting. In this direction, we establish quantum versions of several fundamental classical results. First, we develop natural definitions for private-key and public-key encryption schemes for quantum data. We then define notions of semantic security and indistinguishability, and, in analogy with the classical work of Goldwasser and Micali, show that these notions are equivalent. Finally, we construct secure quantum encryption schemes from basic primitives. In particular, we show that quantum-secure one-way functions imply IND-CCA1-secure symmetric-key quantum encryption, and that quantum-secure trapdoor one-way permutations imply semantically-secure public-key quantum encryption.
A Novel Quasigroup Substitution Scheme for Chaos Based Image Encryption

Abstract:A During last two decades, there has been a prolific growth in the chaos based image encryption algorithms. Up to an extent these algorithms have been able to provide an alternative to exchange large media files (images and videos) over the networks in a secure way. However, there have been some issues with the implementation of chaos based image ciphers in practice. One of them is reduced/small key space due to the fact that chaotic behavior is only observed for certain range of system parameters/initial conditions of the chaotic system used in such algorithms. To overcome this difficulty, we propose a simple, efficient and robust image encryption algorithm based on combined applications of quasigroups and chaotic standard map. The proposed image cipher is based on the popular substitution-diffusion architecture (Shanon) where a quasigroup of order 256 and chaotic standard map have been used for the substitution and permutation of image pixels respectively. Due to the introduction of quasigroup as part of the secret key along with the parameter and initial conditions of the chaotic standard map, the key space has been increased significantly. The proposed image cipher is very fast due to the fact that the substitution based on the quasigroup operations is very simple and can be executed easily through the lookup table operations on Latin squares (which are Cayley operation tables of quasigroups) and the permutation is performed row-by-row as well as column-by-column using the pseudo random number sequences gener-ated through the chaotic standard map. The security and performance have been analyzed through the histograms, correlation coefficients, information entropy, key sensitivity analysis, differential analysis, key space analysis etc. and the results prove the efficiency and robustness of the proposed image cipher against the possible security threats.

Abstract:So far, quantum key distribution (QKD) has been the main subject in the field of quantum cryptography, but that is not quantum cryptographic communication, it is only the ability to send keys for cryptographic purposes. To complete cryptographic communication, a technique for encrypting data is necessary, and the conventional cryptographic technique of mathematical symmetric key cipher or One Time Pad (OTP) is adopted in the discussion so far. However, OTP is not the ultimate cipher for data encryption, because it does not satisfy security conditions in the modern cryptology. Around 2000, a new quantum stream cipher was proposed as a technique to challenge the possibility of overcoming drawbacks of OTP in practical use. Recently, we have published some review papers on it in Entropy (Open access journal), and others. This paper introduces an overview and a back ground of our paper that is entitled Quantum stream cipher based on Holevo-Yuen theory.

Abstract:In this paper we model a class of stream and block ciphers as systems of (ordinary) explicit difference equations over a finite field. We call this class "difference ciphers" and we show that ciphers of application interest, as for example systems of LFSRs with a combiner, Trivium and KeeLoq, belong to the class. By using Difference Algebra, that is, the formal theory of difference equations, we can properly define and study important properties of these ciphers, such as their invertibility and periodicity. We describe then general cryptanalytic methods for difference ciphers that follow from these properties and are useful to assess the security. We illustrate such algebraic attacks in practice by means of the ciphers Bivium and KeeLoq.

Abstract:Cryptographic group actions are a leading contender for post-quantum cryptography, and have also been used in the development of quantum cryptographic protocols. In this work, we explore quantum state group actions, which consist of a group acting on a set of quantum states. We show the following results: 1. In certain settings, statistical (even query bounded) security is impossible, analogously to post-quantum classical group actions. 2. We construct quantum state group actions and prove that many computational problems that have been proposed by cryptographers hold it. Depending on the construction, our proofs are either unconditional, rely on LWE, or rely on the quantum random oracle model. While our analysis does not directly apply to classical group actions, we argue it gives at least a sanity check that there are no obvious flaws in the post-quantum assumptions made by cryptographers. 3. Our quantum state group action allows for unifying two existing quantum money schemes: those based on group actions, and those based on non-collapsing hashes. We also explain how they can unify classical and quantum key distribution.

Abstract:One Achilles heal of classical cryptographic communication systems is that secret communication can only take place after a key is communicated in secret over a totally secure communication channel. Here comes quantum key distribution which takes advantage of certain phenomena that occur at the subatomic level, so that any attempt by an enemy to obtain the bits in a key not only fails, but gets detected as well. This paper proposes the idea of on algorithm, intended to be a quantum network algorithm named Base Selection and Transmission Synchronization - BSTS, which can realize a perfectly secure communication between two computers.

Abstract:Encryption schemes often derive their power from the properties of the underlying algebra on the symbols used. Inspired by group theoretic tools, we use the centralizer of a subgroup of operations to present a private-key quantum homomorphic encryption scheme that enables a broad class of quantum computation on encrypted data. The quantum data is encoded on bosons of distinct species in distinct spatial modes, and the quantum computations are manipulations of these bosons in a manner independent of their species. A particular instance of our encoding hides up to a constant fraction of the information encrypted. This fraction can be made arbitrarily close to unity with overhead scaling only polynomially in the message length. This highlights the potential of our protocol to hide a non-trivial amount of information, and is suggestive of a large class of encodings that might yield better security.

Abstract:Recent advances in quantum computing have made existing public key cryptosystems vulnerable to enormous security threats. Therefore, numerous efforts have been exploring post-quantum cryptographic techniques to address the emergence of quantum computing. We focus on one promising post-quantum cryptography known as "isogeny-based cryptography," first by reviewing some concepts of the elliptic curve isogeny, and then, we present three major methods for constructing isogeny-based difficult problems. Then, we present some existing isogeny-based cryptographic primitives, such as signature and key exchange, and analyze their advantages and disadvantages. Finally, we discuss a few major challenges of isogeny research that, we hope, will attract more attention to isogeny-based cryptography.

Abstract:Abstract Quantum cryptography—the application of quantum information processing and quantum computing techniques to cryptography has been extensively investigated. Two major directions of quantum cryptography are quantum key distribution (QKD) and quantum encryption, with the former focusing on secure key distribution and the latter focusing on encryption using quantum algorithms. In contrast to the success of the QKD, the development of quantum encryption algorithms is limited to designs of mostly one-time pads (OTP) that are unsuitable for most communication needs. In this work we propose a non-OTP quantum encryption design utilizing a quantum state creation process to encrypt messages. As essentially a non-OTP quantum block cipher the method stands out against existing methods with the following features: 1. complex key-ciphertext relation (i.e. confusion) and complex plaintext-ciphertext relation (i.e. diffusion); 2. mode of operation design for practical encryption on multiple blocks. These features provide key reusability and protection against eavesdropping and standard cryptanalytic attacks.

Abstract:Unit group computations are a cryptographic primitive for which one has a fast quantum algorithm, but the required number of qubits is $\tilde O(m^5)$. In this work we propose a modification of the algorithm for which the number of qubits is $\tilde O(m^2)$ in the case of cyclotomic fields. Moreover, under a recent conjecture on the size of the class group of $\mathbb{Q}(\zeta_m + \zeta_m^{-1})$, the quantum algorithms is much simpler because it is a hidden subgroup problem (HSP) algorithm rather than its error estimation counterpart: continuous hidden subgroup problem (CHSP). We also discuss the (minor) speed-up obtained when exploiting Galois automorphisms thanks to the Buchmann-Pohst algorithm over $\mathcal{O}_K$-lattices.

Abstract:As a self-dual framework to unify the study of quasigroups and Hopf algebras, quantum quasigroups are defined using a quantum analogue of the combinatorial approach to classical quasigroups, merely requiring invertibility of the left and right composites. In this paper, quantum quasigroups are redefined with a quantum analogue of the equational approach to classical quasigroups. Here, the left and right composites of auxiliary quantum quasigroups participate in diagrams whose commutativity witnesses the required invertibilities. Whenever the original and two auxiliary quantum quasigroups appear on an equal footing, the triality symmetry of the language of equational quasigroups is replicated. In particular, the problem arises as to when this triality emerges in the Hopf algebra context.
