Abstract:In this paper we show that a recently published finite automaton stream cipher can be considered as a quasigroup based stream cipher. Some additional properties of the discussed cipher are also given.

Abstract:The chaotic output-cipher feedback mode(OCFM) stream cipher was developed to resist attacks based on chaotic orbits.The chaotic signals were generated based on iterating the piecewise linear chaotic map(PLCM) with a segment number parameter(SNP).Odd bits were used to produce the key streams.After being incorporated,the even bits and ciphers were fed back as the next state of the key stream generator.When the chaotic systems were realized with finite precision,the perturbation approach was applied to remedy the finite precision effect,and the perturbation signal was m-sequence.Theoretical analysis and experimental results show that the OCFM cipher is secure and easy to be realized by hardware or software,and that the encryption speed can be adjusted to meet the application requirement at the algorithm level.

Abstract:A wide family of nonlinear sequence generators, the so-called clock-controlled shrinking generators, has been analyzed and identified with a subset of linear cellular automata. The algorithm that converts the given generator into a linear model based on automata is very simple and can be applied in a range of practical interest. Due to the linearity of these automata as well as the characteristics of this class of generators, a cryptanalytic approach can be proposed. Linear cellular structures easily model keystream generators with application in stream cipher cryptography.

Abstract:In this paper,the sub-shift of finite type determined by a class of N×N(0,1)- matrix A on the (one-sided) symbolic space ∑N is used to design a stream cipher.At the same time,the technique employed the extension of irrational number for increasing complexity of the key stream is presented.The result of statistic test of the key stream has been approved and the simulation implies the algorithm is provided with favorable security and validity.

Abstract:In this paper we model a class of stream and block ciphers as systems of (ordinary) explicit difference equations over a finite field. We call this class "difference ciphers" and we show that ciphers of application interest, as for example systems of LFSRs with a combiner, Trivium and KeeLoq, belong to the class. By using Difference Algebra, that is, the formal theory of difference equations, we can properly define and study important properties of these ciphers, such as their invertibility and periodicity. We describe then general cryptanalytic methods for difference ciphers that follow from these properties and are useful to assess the security. We illustrate such algebraic attacks in practice by means of the ciphers Bivium and KeeLoq.

Abstract:Nowadays encryption and spread spectrum communication based on chaos is a hot research topic.Yet the limited precision of computer makes chaotic sequences degenerate to periodic ones and haven't enough key space.In the paper we have designed a stream cipher based on chaos and matrix transform.six two-dimensional chaotic sequences are used to control three kinds of matrix transform and the scanning of a sort of special(0,1)-matrices.The result sequence satisfies the requests for stream cipher.The simulation also implies it has good statistic characters.

Abstract:Coupled map lattices （CML） have been recently used to construct ciphers. However, the complicated operations on real numbers make these CML-based ciphers difficult to analyze. This paper presents a new stream cipher with the discretized CML which operates on binary numbers. When discretizing the CML, the effective network structure is explicitly preserved to improve the confusion and diffusion. The proposed cipher can be easily analyzed using proper cryptographic techniques and has good security. The cipher has a strict lower bound on the period length of 264 and its key setup scheme achieves enough diffusion. The keystreams pass all of the NIST statistical randomness tests and have good randomness properties. In addition the cipher is resistant to the guess-and-determine attack.

Abstract:A design principle for the computation of a cryptographic checksum is proposed. Unlike most of the existing message authentication algorithms, the proposed scheme is based on stream cipher techniques and is non-iterative. In this scheme, a key stream sequence is used to demultiplex the message into two subsequences, which are then fed into two accumulating feedback shift registers to produce the checksum (also called message authentication code). The scheme is suitable for highspeed implementation and possesses valuable properties such as “perfect hashing”, “perfect MAC” and complete key diffusion.

Abstract:This paper is concerned with an extensive form of stream cipher Trivium. Trivium is extended to a scalable form by the coupling connection of Trivium-like shift registers. The characteristic polynomial of k Trivium-like shift registers in coupling connection is proved to have a factor of (1+x)(k). So k-order primitive polynomials are defined in this paper. As the main contribution, a new stream cipher Quavium is proposed based on 4-round Trivium-like shift registers and k-order primitive polynomials. Quavium can also be used with 3 rounds. Experimental results show that Quavium is nearly as fast as Trivium and 3-round Quavium has a better performance.

Abstract:Cryptographic hash functions are very important for cryptographic protocols such as signature scheme and message authentication. Based on the pioneer work of X. Lai et al., a new framework of hash algorithm is developed in this paper. In our hash scheme, an extra pseudorandom keystream generator is not needed which may be more conveniently for practical use. We have proved that the security of the new hash scheme is equivalent to that of feedback shift registers (FSRs) controlled by 2m - bit security keys.

Abstract:A stream cipher was implemented on a FPGA. The keystream, for some authors the most important element, was developed using an algorithm based on Bernoullis chaotic map. When dynamic systems are digitally implemented, a normal degradation appears and disturbs their behavior; for such reason, a mechanism was needed. The proposed mechanism gives a solution for degradation issue and its implementation is not complicated. Finally, the implemented cipher includes 8 stages and 2 pseudo-random number generators (PRNG), such cipher was tested using NIST testes. Once its designing stage, it was implemented using a developing FPGA board.

Symmetric Encryption Scheme Based on Quasigroup Using Chained Mode of Operation

Abstract:In this paper, we propose a novel construction for a symmetric encryption scheme, referred as SEBQ which is based on the structure of quasigroup. We utilize concepts of chaining like mode of operation and present a block cipher with in-built properties. We prove that SEBQ shows resistance against chosen plaintext attack (CPA) and by applying unbalanced Feistel transformation [19], it achieves security against chosen ciphertext attacks (CCA). Subsequently, we conduct an assessment of the randomness of the proposed scheme by running the NIST test suite and we analyze the impact of the initial vector, secret key and plaintext on ciphertext through an avalanche effect analysis. We also compare the results with existing schemes based on quasigroups [11,46]. Moreover, we analyze the computational complexity in terms of number of operations needed for encryption and decryption process.

Abstract:The floating-point operation makes the spatiotemporal chaos based cryptosystems difficult to be analyzed. In this paper, according to the design principles of confusion and diffusion, the coupled map lattice (CML) is discretized and a new stream cipher with the discretized CML is proposed. We show the proposed cipher can be clearly analyzed by using proper cryptographic techniques.

Abstract:The theory and application of cellular automata (CA) for a stream cipher-based encryption principle are presented in this study. Certain fundamental transformations are developed based on CA theory regarding decentralized computation for modeling different system's behavior. The changes governing state transitions rely on simple evolution rules, which can easily be translated into functions using logic operators. A class of linear hybrid cellular automata (LHCA) based on rules 90 and 150 is used to implement these functions. Symmetric key systems theory is the foundation of the suggested algorithm. The algorithm functions use the proprieties provided by the LHCA evolution in order to convert plain text into cipher text and vice versa, in each case starting from the same initial state of the system and performing the same number of steps for each operation. Cellular automata's parallel information processing property, in addition to their regular and dynamical structure, makes hardware implementation of such schemes best suited for VLSI implementation. Testing of the proposed algorithm was performed by developing both software and hardware solutions. Hardware implementation of the presented cryptosystem was developed using VHDL hardware description language and a FPGA device (XILINX Spartan3E XC3S500E). Design and software simulations have been carried out using the C# programming language.

Abstract:Stream cipher has always been one of the most important encryption methods in cryptography.Now we bring in a stream cipher encryption chip design which is based on neural network algorithm and it not only contains the good statistics of m-sequence but also enhances the periodicity and linear complexity of the output sequences.We use FPGA technology to complete the stream cipher circuit design and the modern electronic design method to smoothly realize operation functions and sequential assignment.The result of logical synthesis simulation verifies the correctness of the chip circuit.This research is helpful to the application of stream cipher algorithm in information security and modern secure communication equipment.

It has applied a stream of subkey and an encryption form of block ciphers, so it may be viewed as a combinative of stream cipher and block cipher. Hence, the new type of cipher has fast rate like a stream cipher and need no MAC.
Generalized NLFSR Transformation Algorithms and Cryptanalysis of the Class of Espresso-like Stream Ciphers

Abstract:Lightweight stream ciphers are highly demanded in IoT applications. In order to optimize the hardware performance, a new class of stream cipher has been proposed. The basic idea is to employ a single Galois NLFSR with maximum period to construct the cipher. As a representative design of this kind of stream ciphers, Espresso is based on a 256-bit Galois NLFSR initialized by a 128-bit key. The $2^{256}-1$ maximum period is assured because the Galois NLFSR is transformed from a maximum length LFSR. However, we propose a Galois-to-Fibonacci transformation algorithm and successfully transform the Galois NLFSR into a Fibonacci LFSR with a nonlinear output function. The transformed cipher is broken by the standard algebraic attack and the Rønjom-Helleseth attack with complexity $\mathcal{O}(2^{68.44})$ and $\mathcal{O}(2^{66.86})$ respectively. The transformation algorithm is derived from a new Fibonacci-to-Galois transformation algorithm we propose in this paper. Compare to existing algorithms, proposed algorithms are more efficient and cover more general use cases. Moreover, the transformation result shows that the Galois NLFSR used in any Espresso-like stream ciphers can be easily transformed back into the original Fibonacci LFSR. Therefore, this kind of design should be avoided in the future.

Abstract:(Abstract)A novel stream cipher based on the combination of FCSR and LFSR is proposed by Schneier, which is paid close attention by researchers. In this paper, the properties of this stream cipher are analyzed and the theoretical upper bound of period and that of linear complexity are presented. Then, how to select the parameters of FCSR and LFSR is discussed so that the output sequences can access the theory up bound as much as possible. Meanwhile, the pseudorandom properties of generated sequence are checked by eight tests in NIST STS package. According to the testing results, the generated sequences have good pseudorandom properties if the parameters are selected as the proposed rule. The stream cipher is realized in FPGA and compared with the implementation result of other stream ciphers, which proves this stream cipher is very efficient and can be employed in mobile equipment. Abstract:This paper investigates a new image encryption method based on the stream cipher generated by a discrete Hopfield neural network. The experimental results show that the proposed discrete Hopfield neural network can be used to simulate complex nonlinear functions, and the period, 0 and 1 equalization and sequence correlation properties of the output sequence can meet the requirements for the stream cipher design. Furthermore, the cipher can be easily implemented by digital circuits with parallel calculations to improve the processing speed.
