Abstract:In this short note we prove that if a symplectomorphism f is C1-stably shadowable, then f is Anosov. The same result is obtained for volume-preserving diffeomorphisms.

Abstract:We prove that a C1-generic volume-preserving dynamical system (diffeomorphism or flow) has the shadowing property or is expansive or has the weak specification property if and only if it is Anosov. Finally, we prove that the C1-robustness, within the volume-preserving context, of the expansiveness property and the weak specification property, imply that the dynamical system (diffeomorphism or flow) is Anosov.

Abstract:Petrov and Pilyugin (2015) generalized a notion of $C^0$ transversality of Sakai (1995) using smooth curves. Their definition involves only continuous maps from ${\mathbb R}^n$ to a manifold, which is a purely topological one. They also provided a sufficient condition for the $C^0$ transversality in terms of homological nature. In this paper, we prove that such a homological condition of Axiom A diffeomorphisms is sufficient for enjoying the shadowing property. Moreover, it is proved that the $C^0$ transversality of Axiom A diffeomorphisms with codimension one basic sets implies the homological condition.

Abstract:We prove that a transitive uniformly $u$-quasiconformal Anosov diffeomorphism with a two-dimensional unstable distribution has a globally defined stable holonomy. As a corollary, we are able to remove an additional assumption in a theorem of Kalinin-Sadovskaya, and deduce that all transitive uniformly quasiconformal Anosov diffeomorphisms are $C^{\infty}$-conjugate to affine Anosov diffeomorphisms on infra-torus.

Abstract:We prove the transitivity of real Anosov diffeomorphisms, which are Anosov diffeomorphisms where stable and unstable spaces decompose into a continuous sum of invariant one-dimensional sub-spaces with uniform contraction/expansion over the ambient manifold. We analyze how the stable/unstable holonomies of Anosov diffeomorphisms behave on Artigue's self-similar hyperbolic metric and prove that if a stable/unstable curve has a well-defined length in a self-similar hyperbolic metric, then it has a globally defined holonomy. We exhibit a self-similar hyperbolic metric with well-defined length of curves for each real Anosov diffeomorphism.

Shadowing in the hyperspace of continua

Abstract:We discuss whether classical examples of dynamical systems satisfying the shadowing property also satisfy the shadowing property for the induced map on the hyperspace of continua, obtaining both positive and negative results. We prove that transitive Anosov diffeomorphisms, or more generally continuum-wise hyperbolic homeomorphisms, do not satisfy the shadowing property for the induced map on the hyperspace of continua. We prove that dendrite monotone maps satisfy the shadowing property if, and only if, their induced map on the hyperspace of continua also satisfies it. We give some algorithms that show that there are abundant dynamical systems satisfying the shadowing property with dendrites (compact metric trees) as the underlying space. As a consequence, we show that the universal dendrite of order n admits a homeomorphism with the shadowing property.

Abstract:Let f be a diffeomorphism on a closed manifold, and p be a hyperbolic periodic point of f. Denote Cf(p) the chain component of f that contains p. We say Cf(p) is C1-stably shadowable if there is a C1-neighborhood U of f such that for every g∈U, Cg(pg) has the shadowing property, where pg is the continuation of p. We prove in this paper that if Cf(p) is C1-stably shadowable, then Cf(p) is hyperbolic.

Abstract:Let M be a smooth compact manifold and Lambda be a compact invariant set. In this article, we prove that, for every robustly transitive set Lambda, f vertical bar(Lambda) satisfies a C-1-generic-stable shadowable property (resp., C-1-generic-stable transitive specification property or C-1-generic-stable barycenter property) if and only if Lambda is a hyperbolic basic set. In particular, f vertical bar(Lambda) satisfies a C-1-stable shadowable property (resp., C-1-stable transitive specification property or C-1-stable barycenter property) if and only if Lambda is a hyperbolic basic set. Similar results are valid for volume-preserving case.

Abstract:Let f be a diffeomorphism of a closed n-dimensional C-infinity manifold, and p be a hyperbolic saddle periodic point of f. In this paper, we introduce the notion of C-1-stably weakly shadowing for a closed f-invariant set, and prove that for the homoclinic class H-f(p) of p, if f(vertical bar)H(f)(p) is C-1-stably weakly shadowing, then H-f(p) admits a dominated splitting. Especially, on a 3-dimensional manifold, the splitting on H-f(p) is partially hyperbolic, and if in addition, f is far from homoclinic tangency, then H-f(p) is strongly partially hyperbolic.

Abstract:Let f:Td -> Td be an Anosov diffeomorphism whose linearization A is an element of GL(d,Z) is irreducible. Assume that f is also absolutely partially hyperbolic where a weak stable subbundle is considered as the center subbundle. We show that if the strong stable subbundle and the unstable subbundle are jointly integrable, then f is dynamically coherent and all foliations match corresponding linear foliation under the conjugacy to the linearization A. Moreover, f admits the finest dominated splitting in the weak stable subbundle with dimensions matching those for A$A$, and it has spectral rigidity along all these subbundles. In dimension 4, we also obtain a similar result by grouping the weak stable and unstable subbundles together as a center subbundle and assuming joint integrability of the strong stable and unstable subbundles. As an application, we show that for every symplectic diffeomorphism f is an element of Diff(omega)(2)(T-4) that is C-1-close to an irreducible nonconformal automorphism A is an element of Sp(4,Z), the extremal subbundles of f$f$ are jointly integrable if and only if f is smoothly conjugate to A$A$.
Semi-conjugacy rigidity for endomorphisms derived from Anosov on the 2-torus

Abstract:Let $f$ be a non-invertible partially hyperbolic endomorphism on $\mathbb{T}^2$ which is derived from a non-expanding Anosov endomorphism. Differing from the case of diffeomorphisms derived from Anosov automorphisms, there is no a priori semi-conjugacy between $f$ and its linearization on $\mathbb{T}^2$. We show that $f$ is semi-conjugate to its linearization if and only if $f$ admits the partially hyperbolic splitting with two $Df$-invariant subbundles. Moreover, if we assume that $f$ has the unstable subbundle, then the semi-conjugacy is exactly a topological conjugacy, and the center Lyapunov exponents of periodic points of $f$ coincide and equal to the stable Lyapunov exponent of its linearization. In particular, $f$ is an Anosov endomorphism and the conjugacy is smooth along the stable foliation. For the case that $f$ has the stable subbundle, there is still some rigidity on its stable Lyapunov exponents. However, we also give examples which admit the partially hyperbolic splitting with the center subbundle but the semi-conjugacy is indeed non-injective. Finally, We present some applications for the conservative case. In particular, we show that if $f$ is volume-preserving and semi-conjugate to its linear part, then the semi-conjugacy is actually a smooth conjugacy.

Anosov diffeomorphisms of open surfaces

Abstract:We study the existence of Anosov diffeomorphisms on complete open surfaces. We show that under the assumptions of density of periodic points and uniform geometry that such diffeomorphisms have a system of Margulis measures, which are a holonomy invariant and dynamically invariant system of measures along the stable and unstable leaves. This shows that there can be no such diffeomorphism with a global product structure.

Abstract:In this paper, the C1 interior of the set of vector fields whose integrated flows are expansive is characterized as the set of vector fields without singularities satisfying both Axiom A and the quasi-transversality condition, and it is proved that the above vector fields possessing the shadowing property must be structurally stable. As a corollary, there exists a non-empty C1 open set of vector fields whose integrated flows do not have the shadowing property.

Abstract:We derive a necessary and sufficient condition for an $\Omega-$stable diffeomorphism to be a topologically transitive Anosov diffeomorphism: to exhibit a nonempty intersection of the stable and unstable manifolds of any pair of periodic orbits. To elucidate its dynamical nature, we compare this condition with other properties known to be sufficient for an Anosov diffeomorphism to be topologically transitive. We also describe the $C^1$ interior of the set of diffeomorphisms which comply with this condition, discuss examples with a variety of dynamics and present some applications of interest.

Global stability of discretized Anosov flows

Abstract:The goal of this article is to establish several general properties of a somewhat large class of partially hyperbolic diffeomorphisms called \emph{discretized Anosov flows}. A general definition for these systems is presented and is proven to be equivalent with the definition introduced in [BFFP19], as well as with the notion of flow type partially hyperbolic diffeomorphisms introduced in [BFT20]. The set of discretized Anosov flows is shown to be $C^1$ open and closed inside the set of partially hyperbolic diffeomorphisms. Every discretized Anosov flow is proven to be dynamically coherent and plaque expansive. Unique integrability of the center bundle is shown to happen for whole connected components, notably the ones containing the time 1 map of an Anosov flow. For general connected components, a result on uniqueness of invariant foliation is obtained. Similar results are seen to happen for partially hyperbolic systems admitting a uniformly compact center foliation extending the studies initiated in [BB16].
