Abstract:Let f be a diffeomorphism of a closed n-dimensional C-infinity manifold, and p be a hyperbolic saddle periodic point of f. In this paper, we introduce the notion of C-1-stably weakly shadowing for a closed f-invariant set, and prove that for the homoclinic class H-f(p) of p, if f(vertical bar)H(f)(p) is C-1-stably weakly shadowing, then H-f(p) admits a dominated splitting. Especially, on a 3-dimensional manifold, the splitting on H-f(p) is partially hyperbolic, and if in addition, f is far from homoclinic tangency, then H-f(p) is strongly partially hyperbolic.

Abstract:We show that, for Cl-generic diffeornorphisms, every chain recurrent class C that has a partially hyperbolic splitting E-s circle plus E-c circle plus E-u with dim E-c = 1 either is an isolated hyperbolic periodic orbit, or is accumulated by non-trivial homoclinic classes. We also prove that, for C-1 -generic diffeomorphisms, any chain recurrent class that has a dorninated splitting E circle plus F with dim(E) = 1 either is a homoclinic class, or the bundle E is uniformly contracting. As a corollary we prove in dimension three a conjecture of Palis, which announces that any C-1 -generic diffeomorphism is either Morse-Smale, or has a non-trivial homoclinic class.

Abstract:Works of Liao, Mañé, Franks, Aoki and Hayashi characterized lack of hyperbolicity for diffeomorphisms by the existence of weak periodic orbits. In this note we announce a result which can be seen as a local version of these works: for C$^1$-generic diffeomorphism, a homoclinic class either is hyperbolic or contains a sequence of periodic orbits that have a Lyapunov exponent arbitrarily close to 0. Des travaux de Liao, Mañé, Franks, Aoki et Hayashi ont caractérisé le manque d'hyperbolicité des difféomorphismes par l'existence d'orbites périodiques faibles. Dans cette note, nous annonçons un résultat qui peut être considéré comme une version locale de ces travaux: pour les difféomorphismes C$^1$-génériques, une classe homocline ou bien est hyperbolique, ou bien contient une suite d'orbites périodiques qui ont un exposant de Lyapunov arbitrairement proche de 0.

Abstract:We prove that there is a residual subset $\mathcal{I}$ of ${\rm Diff}^1({\it M})$ such that any homoclinic class of a diffeomorphism $f\in \mathcal{I}$ having saddles of indices $\alpha$ and $\beta$ contains a dense subset of saddles of index $\tau$ for every $\tau\in [\alpha,\beta]\cap \mathbb{N}$. We also derive some consequences from this result about the Lyapunov exponents of periodic points and the sort of bifurcations inside homoclinic classes of $C^1$-generic diffeomorphisms.

Abstract:We give a sufficient criterion for the hyperbolicity of a homoclinic class. More precisely, if the homoclinic class H(p) admits a partially hyperbolic splitting T-H(p) M = E-s circle plus(<) F, where E-s is uniformly contracting and dim E-s = ind(p), and all periodic points homoclinically related with p are uniformly E-u-expanding at the period, then H(p) is hyperbolic. We also give some consequences of this result.

Abstract:In this short note we prove that if a symplectomorphism f is C1-stably shadowable, then f is Anosov. The same result is obtained for volume-preserving diffeomorphisms.

Abstract:Let $f: M \to M$ denote a diffeomorphism of a smooth manifold $M$. Let $p$ in $M$ be its hyperbolic fixed point with stable and unstable manifolds $W_S$ and $W_U$, respectively. Assume that $W_S$ is a curve. Suppose that $W_U$ and $W_S$ have a degenerate homoclinic crossing at a point $B\ne p$, i.e., they cross at $B$ tangentially with a finite order of contact. It is shown that, subject to $C^1$-linearizability and certain conditions on the invariant manifolds, a transverse homoclinic crossing will arise arbitrarily close to $B$. This proves the existence of a horseshoe structure arbitrarily close to $B$, and extends a similar planar result of Homburg and Weiss.

Abstract:Let f be a diffeomorphism on a closed manifold, and p be a hyperbolic periodic point of f. Denote Cf(p) the chain component of f that contains p. We say Cf(p) is C1-stably shadowable if there is a C1-neighborhood U of f such that for every g∈U, Cg(pg) has the shadowing property, where pg is the continuation of p. We prove in this paper that if Cf(p) is C1-stably shadowable, then Cf(p) is hyperbolic.

Abstract:In this paper we generalize the notion of regular homotopy of immersions of a closed connected n-manifold into R^{2n-1} to locally generic mappings. The main result is that if n=2 then two mappings with singularities are regularly homotopic if and only if they have the same number of cross-cap (or Whitney-umbrella) singularities. As an application, we get a description of the path-components of the space of those immersions of a surface into R^4 whose projections into R^3 are locally generic.

Abstract:We prove that, for $C^{1}$ -generic diffeomorphisms, if the periodic orbits contained in a homoclinic class $H(p)$ have all their Lyapunov exponents bounded away from zero, then $H(p)$ must be (uniformly) hyperbolic. This is in the spirit of the works on the stability conjecture, but with a significant difference that the homoclinic class $H(p)$ is not known isolated in advance, hence the ‘weak’ periodic orbits created by perturbations near the homoclinic class have to be guaranteed strictly inside the homoclinic class. In this sense the problem is of an ‘intrinsic’ nature, and the classical proof of the stability conjecture does not work. In particular, we construct in the proof several perturbations which are not simple applications of the connecting lemmas.

Abstract:We characterize diffeomorphisms that are C-1 away from homoclinic tangencies by using dominated splittings on the C-1 preperiodic sets. More precisely, we prove that a diffeomorphism f cannot be C-1 approximated by systems with homoclinic tangencies if and only if for all 1 less than or equal to i less than or equal to d(-1), the C-1 i-preperiodic set P-*(i) (f) of f has i-dominated splitting.

In this article, we prove that, for every robustly transitive set Lambda, f vertical bar(Lambda) satisfies a C-1-generic-stable shadowable property (resp., C-1-generic-stable transitive specification property or C-1-generic-stable barycenter property) if and only if Lambda is a hyperbolic basic set. Abstract:We show a $C^r$ connecting lemma for area-preserving surface diffeomorphisms and for periodic Hamiltonian on surfaces. We prove that for a generic $C^r$, $r=1, 2, ...$, $\infty$, area-preserving diffeomorphism on a compact orientable surface, homotopic to identity, every hyperbolic periodic point has a transversal homoclinic point. We also show that for a $C^r$, $r=1, 2, ...$, $\infty$ generic time periodic Hamiltonian vector field in a compact orientable surface, every hyperbolic periodic trajectory has a transversal homoclinic point. The proof explores the special properties of diffeomorphisms that are generated by Hamiltonian flows.

Abstract:We prove some C 1 generic results about orbit-connecting, in particular about heteroclinic cycles and homoclinic closures. As a consequence we obtain a three-ways C 1 density theorem: Diffeomorphisms with either infinitely many weakly transitive components or a heterodimensional cycle are C 1 dense in the complement of the C 1 closure of Axiom A and no-cycle diffeomorphisms.

Abstract:We prove that every singular hyperbolic chain transitive set with a singularity does not admit the shadowing property. Using this result we show that if a star flow has the shadowing property on its chain recurrent set then it satisfies Axiom A and the no-cycle conditions; and that if a multisingular hyperbolic set has the shadowing property then it is hyperbolic.

Abstract:If the Aubry set A˜(c) satisfies some topological hypothesis, such as H1(M×T,A(c),R)≠0, then the α-function has a flat. In this paper, we will prove that A˜(c′) has infinitely many M˜-minimal homoclinic orbits when c′ is on the boundary of the maximal flat of the α-function. These homoclinic orbits are different from the usually called multi-bump solutions.

Abstract:We prove that, for $C^1$-generic diffeomorphisms, if a homoclinic class is not hyperbolic, then there is a non-hyperbolic ergodic measure supported on it. This proves a conjecture by Díaz and Gorodetski [28]. We also discuss the conjectured existence of periodic points with different stable dimension in the class.
