Abstract:The symmetry energy effects on the nuclear disintegration mechanisms of the neutron-rich system (A(0) = 200, Z(0) = 78) are studied in the framework of the statistical multifragmentation model (SMM) within its micro-canonical ensemble. A modified symmetry energy term with consideration of the volume and surface asymmetry is adopted instead of the original invariable value in the standard SMM model. The results indicate that as the volume and surface asymmetries are considered, the neutron-rich system translates to a fission-like process from evaporation earlier than the original standard SMM model at lower excitation energies, and its mass distribution has larger probabilities in the medium-heavy nuclei range so that the system breaks up more averagely. When the excitation energy becomes higher, the volume and surface asymmetry lead to a smaller average multiplicity.

Abstract:We study the role of impact parameter on the collective flow and its disappearance for different mass asymmetric reactions. The mass asymmetry is varied from 0 to 0.7 keeping the total mass of the system fixed. Our results clearly indicate a significant role of impact parameter on the collective flow and its disappearance for the mass asymmetric reactions. The impact parameter dependence is also found to vary with mass asymmetry of the reaction.

Abstract:We have used some scaling properties of nuclear multifragmentation to test a The results of an experiment in which 990 MeV/u 197Au nuclei interact with a nuclear emulsion have been used for this purpose by looking at some particular correlation between moments of the fragment distribution. By investing the dimensionality of the model we have found that the experimental correlation can only be reproduced by a restructured aggregation in three dimensions. We have observed that it is important to perform a restructuration of the filamented clusters in order to reproduce the experimental correlation. Finally, we have investigated the effect of a reasonable constraint between the relative momentum of two nucleons.

Abstract:The influence of isospin effects on the multifragmentation in the head-on collisions of the system Ca-40 + Ca-40 and Ar-40 + Ar-40 for different incident energies is discussed by using isospin dependent quantum molecular dynamics model (IQMD). It is found that the intermediate mass fragment (IMF) has obvious difference at high incident energy, because the nucleon-nucleon cross section effects is major in the process of heavy ion collision. Thus, we have some opportunities to extract the information of nucleon-nucleon cross section. At low energy various isospin effects affect each other,resulting in no obvious difference in the IMF between two systems.
Even-odd effect in multifragmentation products: the footprints of evaporation

Abstract:The analysis of experimental production cross-sections of intermediate-mass fragments (IMF) of several nuclear reactions at relativistic energy, measured at the FRS, GSI Darmstadt, revealed a very strong and complex even-odd staggering. The origin of this effect is related to the condensation process of hot nuclei while cooling down by evaporation. The characteristics of the staggering correlate strongly with the lowest particle separation energy of the final experimentally observed nuclei, but not with the binding energy. The study confirms the important role of the de-excitation process in multifragmentation reactions, and indicates that sequential decay strongly influences the yields of IMF, which are often used to extract information on the nature of nuclear reactions at high energies.

Abstract:The longitudinal asymmetry in relativistic heavy ion collisions arises from the fluctuation in the number of nucleons involved. This asymmetry causes a rapidity shift in the center of mass of the participating zone. Both the rapidity shift and the longitudinal asymmetry have been found to be significant at the top CERN Large Hadron Collider (LHC) energy for collisions of identical nuclei, and the longitudinal asymmetry is important for reconstructing the colliding vertex and correcting the rapidity shift. However, much discussion of the longitudinal asymmetry has treated the initial condition as a nonzero momentum contributed only by the number of participants, i.e., the asymmetry depends only on the number of participating nucleons. So we naturally raise a physical problem, can other initial conditions, such as two typical initial conditions for nuclei, geometric configuration, and momentum distribution, provide effects on the longitudinal asymmetry? Therefore, in this work we consider other effects on the longitudinal asymmetry other than the fluctuation in the number of participants, e.g., the {\alpha} clustering structure as well as the intrinsic momentum distribution in the target and projectile nuclei for the collisions in the framework of a multiphase transport (AMPT) model. By introducing systems with different {\alpha}-clustering structure and intrinsic momentum distribution, we calculated the ratio of the rapidity distributions of different systems and extracted expansion coefficients to analyze the difference contributed by these factors. ...

Abstract:We demonstrate the role of the mass asymmetry on the balance energy (Ebal) by studying asymmetric reactions throughout the periodic table and over entire colliding geometry. Our results, which are almost independent of the system size and as well as of the colliding geometries indicate a sizeable effect of the asymmetry of the reaction on the balance energy.

Abstract:Nuclear multifragmentation is an important phenomenon, the study of which can throw light on reaction mechanism in heavy ion collisions at intermediate and high energies. Based on statistical and dynamical model studies, this thesis is concentrated mainly on, the following three aspects of nuclear multifragmentation reactions namely (i) production of exotic nuclei which are normally not available in the laboratory (ii) nuclear symmetry energy from heavy ion collisions at intermediate energies and (iii) Nuclear liquid-gas phase transition. In addition to these equivalence of statistical ensembles under different conditions is also studied in the framework of multifragmentation.

Abstract:Within the framework of an IQMD model, multifragmentation in reactions of Sn-112+ Sn-112 and Sn-124+ Sn-124 at 40MeV/u is investigated. The calculated results are in qualitative agreement with the experimental data. Significantly different scalings of the mean IMF multiplicities with neutron, charged-particle, light charged-particle multiplicities, aml Z(bound) are observed for the two reactions. In addition,comparing with the results of expanding evaporating source model and an isospin-dependent percolation model, it is found that the isospin dependence of multifragmentation mainly results from the isospin dependent reaction dynamics.

Abstract:The mass distributions of fragment for neutron-induced U235,238, Np237 , and Pu239 fission were studied using the improved scission point model by considering the octupole deformation of the fragments over a wide range of incident neutron energies ( En=10−50MeV ). The multichance fission mechanism ensures that the mass distributions remain highly asymmetric even at high energy. We also investigated the role of octupole deformation of fragments in the multichance fission mechanism. The results obtained using the improved scission point model accurately replicated the experimental data. Abstract:We establish links between three different models for multifragmentation: the percolation model, the lattice gas model and the statistical multifragmentation model. There are remarkable similarities between the lattice gas model and the statistical multifragmentation model. For completeness, we also compare with a model based upon classical molecular dynamics which gives rather different results.

Abstract:We have used the bond percolation model to study the multifragmentation of Au-197 projectiles after collisions with a Cu target at an incident energy of 600 MeV/nucleon. The charge correlations have been analysed. The theoretical results agree well with the experimental data of the ALADIN collaboration. This shows that the percolation model can reasonably describe the universal property of nuclear fragmentation in nucleus-nucleus collisions.

Abstract:The single-particle inclusive fragmentation function and the particle multiplicity are observables of fundamental importance in studying properties of quantum chromodynamics at colliders. It is well known that at high energies the multiplicity distribution satisfies Koba-Nielsen-Olesen (KNO) scaling in which all moments are proportional to powers of the mean multiplicity. We prove that, under weak assumptions, the leading dependence of the fragmentation function on multiplicity is itself a kind of KNO scaling in which all moments are inversely proportional to powers of the mean multiplicity. This scaling with multiplicity additionally accounts for the dominant dependence on collision energy in the fragmentation function. The proof relies crucially on properties of the fragmentation function conditioned on the total multiplicity and application of the Stieltjes moment problem. In the process, we construct a novel basis of the fragmentation function expressed as an overall exponential suppression times a series of Laguerre polynomials. Abstract:The evolution of the symmetry energy coefficient of the binding energy of hot fragments with increasing excitation is explored in multifragmentation processes following heavy-ion collisions below the Fermi energy. In this work, high-resolution mass spectrometric data on isotopic distributions of projectile-like fragments from collisions of 25 MeV/nucleon 86Kr and 64Ni beams on heavy neutron-rich targets are systematically compared to calculations involving the Statistical Multifragmentation Model. The study reveals a gradual decrease of the symmetry energy coefficient from 25 MeV at the compound nucleus regime (E*/A < 2 MeV) towards 15 MeV in the bulk multifragmentation regime (E*/A > 4 MeV). The ensuing isotopic distributions of the hot fragments are found to be very wide and extend towards the neutron drip-line. These findings may have important implications to the composition and evolution of hot astrophysical environments, such as core-collapse supernova.

Abstract:To investigate the influence of nuclear finite-size effects on the fragmentation in heavy-ion collisions, the fragment charge distributions of ${}^{40}$Ca+${}^{40}$Ca, ${}^{197}$Au+${}^{197}$Au, ${}^{120}$Xe+${}^{129}$Sn, and ${}^{58}$Ni+${}^{48}$Ca at intermediate incident energies are studied by using the improved quantum molecular dynamics model. Both the width of the wave packet at the coordinate space and the surface energy term strongly affect the formation and stability of fragments at intermediate-low energies. The wave-packet width influences the stability and the central densities of the initial nuclei. With increase of incident energies, the influence of the detail in description of individual nucleons and of their interaction via mean field on the fragment distributions weakens gradually.
Discrimination between roles of fissioning nucleus and asymmetry degree of freedom on the even-odd structure in fission-fragment yields

Abstract:Based on a wide systematics of fission-fragment distributions measured in low-energy fission, the even-odd staggering in the fission-fragment element yields is investigated. The well-established evolution of the global even-odd effect with the fissioning system is found to be only a partial aspect of the even-odd structure. Indeed, it is shown that the global even-odd effect is varying systematically with the mean asymmetry of the fission-fragment distribution, and that the general increase of the even-odd staggering with asymmetry is depending on the fissioning system. Thus, the dependency of the even-odd effect with the fissioning system is accredited in part to the asymmetry evolution of the charge distribution, and not solely related to the dissipated energy as it has been done earlier. This interpretation is strongly supported by data measured in inverse kinematics, which cover the complete charge distribution and include precise yields at symmetry. The relevance of the order parameter to describe the even-odd effect in fission-fragment yields as a general property is explored.
