Abstract:In this paper, by employing the Hirota’s bilinear method, we construct the N-soliton solution for an integrable nonlocal discrete focusing nonlinear Schrödinger (dNLS+) equation, and give the asymptotic analysis of two-soliton solution. The soliton solutions can be reduced to spatial periodic solution or singular solution by choosing the different parameters. Under continuous limit, the discrete soliton yields the one of nonlocal focusing nonlinear Schrödinger equation.

Abstract:The nonlinear Schrodinger (NLS) equation and Boussinesq equation are two very important integrable equations. They have widely physical applications. In this paper, we investigate a nonlinear system, which is the two-component NLS equation coupled to the Boussinesq equation. We obtain the bright-bright, bright-dark, and dark-dark soliton solutions to the nonlinear system. We discuss the collision between two solitons. We observe that the collision of bright-bright soliton is inelastic and two solitons oscillating periodically can happen in the two parallel-traveling bright-bright or bright-dark soliton solution. The general breather and rogue wave solutions are also given. Our results show again that there are more abundant dynamical properties for multi-component nonlinear systems.

Abstract:This paper considers a completely integrable nonlinear wave equation which is called Qiao equation. The equation is reduced via Lie symmetry analysis. Two classes of new exact group-invariant solutions are obtained by solving the reduced equations. Specially, a novel technique is proposed for constructing group-invariant solutions and non-group-invariant solutions based on travelling wave solutions. The obtained exact solutions include a set of traveling wave-like solutions with variable amplitude, variable velocity or both. Nonlocal conservation laws of Qiao equation are also obtained with the corresponding infinitesimal generators.

Abstract:The unstable nonlinear Schrodinger (NLS) equation is solved by the inverse scattering transform. Based on the constructed Zakharov-Shabat equation, it is shown that the soliton solution of the unstable NLS equation can be known from the soliton solution of the usual NLS equation by simply exchanging the variables. The explicit N-soliton solution and the position shifts due to the collision are thus calculated.

Abstract:In this paper we study the soliton and multi-soliton solutions of the (2+ 1)-dimensional Zakharov equation(ZE) with a = b = -1. The first kind of soliton or soliton-like solutions of the ZE are obtained by Lou's method. By carefully choosing the arbitrary functions in the resulting linear partial differential equation, explicit soliton solutions may be obtained. The second kind of solutions obtained are a vast kind of multi-soliton solutions. A special ansatz is proposed for getting these multi soliton solutions.

Abstract:In this paper, we investigate the integrability of a (2+1)-dimensional generalized KdV equation. In virtue of the Weiss–Tabor–Carnevale method and Kruskal ansatz, this equation can pass the Painlevé test. The truncated Painlevé expansion leads to the Bäcklund transformation and rational solutions. The bilinear Bäcklund transformation and Bell-polynomial-typed Bäcklund transformation are constructed with the Hirota bilinear method and Bell polynomials. It is proved that the (2+1)-dimensional generalized KdV equation can be regarded as an integrable model in sense of infinite conservation laws. The formula of N -soliton solutions is given and verified with the Hirota condition. The study of integrability provides theoretical guidance for solving equations and gives the possibility of the existence of exact solutions.

Abstract:We construct N-soliton solutions to the equation called Q3 in the recent Adler-Bobenko-Suris classification. An essential ingredient in the construction is the relationship of $(Q3)_{\delta=0}$ to the equation proposed by Nijhoff, Quispel and Capel in 1983 (the NQC equation). This latter equation has two extra parameters, and depending on their sign choices we get a 4-to-1 relationship from NQC to $(Q3)_{\delta=0}$. This leads to a four-term background solution, and then to a 1-soliton solution using a Backlund transformation. Using the 1SS as a guide allows us to get the N-soliton solution in terms of the tau-function of the Hirota-Miwa equation.

Abstract:In this paper, the Riemann-Hilbert approach is applied to investigate a higher-order Chen-Lee-Liu equation with third-order dispersion and quintic nonlinearity terms. Based on the analytical, symmetric and asymptotic properties of eigenfunctions, a generalized Riemann-Hilbert problem associated with Chen-Lee-Liu equation with nonzero boundary conditions is constructed. Further, the N-soliton solution is found by solving the generalized Riemann-Hilbert problem. As an illustrative example, two kinds of one-soliton solutions with different forms of parameters are obtained.
A comprehensive study on zero-background solitons of the sharp-line Maxwell-Bloch equations

Abstract:This work is devoted to systematically study general $N$-soliton solutions possibly containing multiple degenerate soliton groups (DSGs), in the context of the sharp-line Maxwell-Bloch equations with a zero background. A DSG is a localized coherent nonlinear traveling-wave structure, comprised of inseparable solitons with identical velocities. Hence, DSGs are generalizations of single solitons (considered as $1$-DSGs), and form fundamental building blocks of solutions of many integrable systems. We provide an explicit formula for an $N$-DSG and its center from an appropriate Riemann-Hilbert problem. With the help of the Deift-Zhou's nonlinear steepest descent method, we rigorously prove the localization of DSGs, and calculate the long-time asymptotics for an arbitrary $N$-soliton solutions. We show that the solution becomes a linear combination of multiple DSGs with different sizes in the distant past and future. The asymptotic phase shift for each DSG is obtained in the process as well. Other generalizations of a single soliton are also carefully discussed, such as $N$th-order solitons and soliton gases. We prove that every $N$th-order soliton can be obtained by fusion of eigenvalues of $N$-soliton solutions, with proper rescalings of norming constants, and every soliton-gas solution can be considered as limits of $N$-soliton solutions as $N\to+\infty$. Consequently, certain properties of $N$th-order solitons and soliton gases are obtain as well. With the approach presented in this work, we show that results can be readily migrated to other integrable systems, with the same non-self-adjoint Zakharov-Shabat scattering problem or alike. Results for the focusing nonlinear Schrödinger equation and complex modified Korteweg-De Vries equation are obtained as explicit examples for demonstrative purposes.

Abstract:The dynamical properties of the optical solitons in two types of matrix nonlinear Schrödin-ger (NLS) equation are studied by Riemann–Hilbert method. Firstly, the inverse scattering transform of the matrix NLS equation is investigated and the corresponding Riemann–Hilbert problem is established. Then, by solving the Riemann–Hilbert problem of discrete spectrum, the N -soliton solutions of the matrix NLS equations are obtained. Finally, the single-soliton solution, two-soliton solution and three-soliton solution of the matrix NLS equations are attained. It is proved that the two-soliton solution is decomposed into two single-soliton solutions when the time approaches infinity and the multiple solitons will overlap and form a bound state advancing at the same velocity when they have the same velocity.

Abstract:Under investigation in this paper is a (2[Formula: see text]+[Formula: see text]1)-dimensional generalized variable-coefficient shallow water wave equation which can be reduced to several integrable equations, such as the Korteweg–de Vries (KdV) equation and the Calogero–Bogoyavlenskii–Schiff (CBS) equation. Bilinear forms, Bäcklund transformation, Lax pair and infinite conservation laws are derived based on the binary Bell polynomials. N-soliton solutions are constructed via the Hirota method. Propagation and interaction of the solitons are illustrated graphically: (i) variable coefficients affect the shape of the N-soliton interaction in the scaled space and time coordinates; (ii) positions of the solitons depend on the sign of wave numbers after each interaction; (iii) interaction of the solitons is elastic, i.e. the amplitude, velocity and shape of each soliton remain invariant after each interaction except for a phase shift.

Abstract:The nonlinear Schrodinger (NLS) equation is widely used in natural science. Various nonlinear excitations of the NLS equation have been found by many methods. However, except for the soliton-soliton interactions, it is very difficult to find interaction solutions between different types of nonlinear excitations. In this paper, the symmetry reduction method is further developed to find interaction solutions between solitons and other types of NLS waves. Especially, the soliton-cnoidal wave interaction solutions are explicitly studied in terms of the Jacobi elliptic functions and the third type of incomplete elliptic integrals. Some special concrete interaction solutions and their asymptotic behaviors are discussed both in analytical and graphical ways.

Abstract:We obtain the integrable relation for the one-dimensional nonlinear Schrödinger equations which describes the dynamics of a Bose–Einstein Condensates with time-dependent scattering length in a harmonic potential. The exact one- and two-soliton solutions are constructed analytically by using the Hirota method. Then we further discuss the dynamics of the one soliton and the interactions between two solitons in currently experimental conditions.

Abstract:In this paper, we obtain the soliton solutions for the "good" Boussinesq equation on a constant background. Based on the asymptotic analysis of the solutions, we find that this equation admits both the elastic and resonant soliton interactions, as well as various partially inelastic interactions comprised of such two fundamental interactions. Via picture drawing, we present some examples of soliton interactions on nonzero backgrounds. Our results enrich the knowledge of soliton interactions in the (1/1)-dimensional integrable equation with a single field.

Abstract:This paper studies the multi-component Sasa-Satsuma integrable hierarchies via an arbitrary-order matrix spectral problem, based on the zero curvature formulation. A generalized coupled Sasa-Satsuma equation is derived from the multi-component Sasa-Satsuma integrable hierarchies with a bi-Hamiltonian structure. The inverse scattering transform of the generalized coupled Sasa-Satsuma equation is presented by the spatial matrix spectral problem and the Riemann–Hilbert method, which enables us to obtain the N-soliton solutions. And then the dynamics of one- and two-soliton solutions are discussed and presented graphically. Asymptotic analyses of the presented two-soliton solution are finally analyzed.

Abstract:It is well known that the nonlinear Schrödinger (NLS) equation is a very important integrable equation. Ablowitz and Musslimani introduced and investigated an integrable nonlocal NLS equation through inverse scattering transform. Very recently, we proposed an integrable nonlocal modified Korteweg–de Vries equation (mKdV) which can also be found in the papers of Ablowitz and Musslimani. We have constructed the Darboux transformation and soliton solutions for the nonlocal mKdV equation. In this paper, we will investigate further the nonlocal mKdV equation. We will give its exact solutions including soliton and breather through inverse scattering transformation. These solutions have some new properties, which are different from the ones of the mKdV equation.
