Abstract:In this article, a seventh-order variable-coefficient nonlinear Schrödinger equation is investigated in an optical fiber. By means of the Darboux transformation, soliton and breather solutions are derived and the following results are attained: (i) The one soliton and interactions of two solitons are presented, whose basic structures are parabolic-like, cubic and periodical-oscillating solitons; (ii) The first-order breather and interactions between the two breathers are studied. Several interesting nonlinear wave patterns such as cow-shaped breathers and breathers with periodic properties are displayed; (iii) The dynamic behaviors of solitons and breather waves are affected by the variable coefficients.

Abstract:We characterize the soliton solutions of the nonlinear Schrödinger equation on the half-line with linearizable boundary conditions. Using an extension of the solution to the whole line and the corresponding symmetries of the scattering data, we identify the properties of the discrete spectrum of the scattering problem. We show that discrete eigenvalues appear in quartets as opposed to pairs in the initial value problem, and we obtain explicit relations for the norming constants associated with symmetric eigenvalues. The apparent reflection of each soliton at the boundary of the spatial domain is due to the presence of a 'mirror' soliton, with equal amplitude and opposite velocity, located beyond the boundary. We then calculate the position shift of the physical solitons as a result of the nonlinear reflection. These results provide a nonlinear analogue of the method of images that is used to solve boundary value problems in electrostatics.

Abstract:In this research work, we derive the superregular solitonic solutions of the higher-order nonlinear Schrödinger equation (HNLSE) with nonvanishing boundary conditions by using the dressing method. In order to understand these solutions better, we give the explicit form of one-and two-solitonic solutions and discuss them in detail. This family of novel solutions include Peregrine soliton (PS), Akhmediev breather (AB), Kuznetsov-Ma (KM) breather, a symmetrical quasi-AB, coexistence of two symmetrical quasi-AB, coexistence of two nonsymmetrical quasi-AB, coexistence of a quasi-AB and a soliton, a bipolar-freak-wave (FW) etc. Finally, the main characteristics of these rational solutions are discussed with some graphics. These solutions would be of much importance in understanding and explaining FW phenomena arising in nonlinear and complex systems.

Abstract:An explicit N-fold Darboux transformation with multiparameters for nonlinear Schrodinger equation is constructed with the help of its Lax pairs and a reduction technique. According to this Darboux transformation, the solutions of the nonlinear Schrodinger equation are reduced to solving a Linear algebraic system, from which a unified and explicit formulation of N-soliton solutions with multiparameters for the nonlinear Schrodinger equation is given.

Abstract:The dynamical properties of the optical solitons in two types of matrix nonlinear Schrödin-ger (NLS) equation are studied by Riemann–Hilbert method. Firstly, the inverse scattering transform of the matrix NLS equation is investigated and the corresponding Riemann–Hilbert problem is established. Then, by solving the Riemann–Hilbert problem of discrete spectrum, the N -soliton solutions of the matrix NLS equations are obtained. Finally, the single-soliton solution, two-soliton solution and three-soliton solution of the matrix NLS equations are attained. It is proved that the two-soliton solution is decomposed into two single-soliton solutions when the time approaches infinity and the multiple solitons will overlap and form a bound state advancing at the same velocity when they have the same velocity.

Abstract:We construct exact soliton solutions of integrable multicomponent nonlinear Schrödinger (NLS) equations under general nonvanishing boundary conditions. Different components of the vector (or matrix) dependent variable can approach plane waves with different wavenumbers and frequencies at spatial infinity. We apply Bäcklund-Darboux transformations to the cubic NLS equations with a self-focusing nonlinearity, a self-defocusing nonlinearity or a mixed focusing-defocusing nonlinearity. Both bright-soliton solutions and dark-soliton solutions are obtained, depending on the signs of the nonlinear terms and the type of Bäcklund-Darboux transformation. The multicomponent solitons generally possess internal degrees of freedom and provide highly nontrivial generalizations of the scalar NLS solitons. The main step in the construction of the multicomponent solitons is to compute the matrix exponential of a constant non-diagonal matrix arising from the Lax pair. With a suitable re-parametrization of the non-diagonal matrix, the matrix exponential can be computed explicitly in closed form for the most interesting cases such as the two-component vector NLS equation. In particular, we do not resort to Cardano's formula in diagonalizing a $3 \times 3$ matrix, so our expressions for the multicomponent solitons are in some sense more explicit and useful than those obtained in [Q-H. Park and H. J. Shin, Phys. Rev. E 61 (2000) 3093].

Abstract:We construct multi-soliton solutions of the n-component vector nonlinear Schrödinger equation on the half-line subject to two classes of integrable boundary conditions (BCs): the homogeneous Robin BCs and the mixed Neumann/Dirichlet BCs. The construction is based on the approach of dressing the integrable BCs: soliton solutions are generated in preserving the integrable BCs at each step of the Darboux-dressing process. Under the Robin BCs, examples, including boundary-bound solitons, are explicitly derived; under the mixed Neumann/Dirichlet BCs, the boundary can act as a polarizer that tunes different components of the vector solitons.

Abstract:<p>In this paper, a (2+1)-dimensional nonlinear Schrödinger (NLS) equation with variable coefficients is studied. Base on the symmetry of the equation, we rotate the original coordinate for 45 degrees to get a simple one in the new coordinate. This method is quite easy to compare with solving it directly, and it is never been used before. By the Hirota method with an auxiliary function, the soliton solutions are derived. We revealed the structures between soliton interaction and discussed the interaction properties: Influences of the coefficients and wave numbers on interaction shapes of solitons are presented, i.e. parabolic, cubic, quasi-periodical, and polyline solitons are presented; Solitonic amplitudes are inversely proportional to the wave numbers. Besides, if the coefficients small enough, two-soliton solutions are degenerate into two parallel solitons; Soliton solutions do not only depend on the wave numbers, but also affected by the coefficients; To demonstrate those soliton solutions, we propose different methods to control those parameters, we also discuss a new form and draw some good conclusions. In the end, bound-state solitons are obtained.</p>

Abstract:In this paper, we will obtain the exact N-soliton solution of the coupled long-wave–short-wave system via the developed Hirota bilinear method. Through manipulating the relevant parameters, we will construct different types of solutions which include breather-like solutions and dark-soliton-breather-like solutions. Moreover, we will demonstrate that the interactions of two-soliton and two-breather-like solutions are all elastic through asymptotic analysis method. Finally, we will display the interactions through illustrations.

Abstract:The inverse scattering transformation for a novel nonlocal Lakshmanan–Porsezian–Daniel (LPD) equation with rapidly decaying initial data is studied in the framework of Riemann–Hilbert problem. Firstly, a novel integrable nonlocal LPD equation corresponding to a Lax pair is proposed. Secondly, the inverse scattering process with a novel left-right matrix Riemann–Hilbert(RH) problem is constructed. The analytical properties and symmetry relations for the Jost functions and scattering data are considerably different from the local ones. Due to the special symmetry properties for the nonlocal LPD equation, the zeros of the RHP problem are purely imaginary or occur in pairs. With different types and configuration of zeros, the soliton formula is provided and the rich dynamical behaviors for the three kinds of multi-solitons for the novel nonlocal LPD equation are demonstrated. Third, by a technique of adding perturbed parameters and limiting process, the formula of higher-order solitons for the nonlocal LPD equation is exhibited. Lastly, the plots of diverse higher-order solitons and various solutions corresponding to different combinations of the following zeros: purely imaginary higher-order zeros, purely imaginary simple zeros, pairs of non-purely imaginary simple zeros and pairs of non-purely imaginary higher-order zeros are displayed.

Abstract:We consider the Schrödinger equation with a general interaction term, which is localized in space, for radially symmetric initial data in $n$ dimensions, $n\geq5$. The interaction term may be space-time dependent and nonlinear. Assuming that the solution is bounded in $H^1(\mathbb{R}^n)$ uniformly in time, we prove soliton resolution conjecture (Asymptotic completeness) by demonstrating that the solution resolves into a smooth and localized part and a free radiation in $\mathcal{L}^2_x(\mathbb{R}^n)$ norm. Examples of such equations include inter-critical and super-critical nonlinear Schrödinger equations, saturated nonlinearities, time-dependent potentials, and combinations of these terms.

Abstract:In this paper, we systematically investigate the Riemann–Hilbert (RH) approach and obtain the soliton solutions for the inhomogeneous discrete nonlinear Schrödinger (NLS) equation with nonzero boundary conditions (NZBCs). Starting from the spectral problem and introducing the uniformization variable κ to avoid the complexity of double-valued function and Riemann surface, we deduce the analyticity, asymptotics and symmetries of the eigenfunctions and scattering coefficients, then the RH problem and reconstruction formula for the potential are successfully constructed. Under reflectionless condition and combining the time evolution of the scattering coefficients and eigenfunctions, we obtain various first-order soliton solutions with different direction of propagation caused by the change of the coefficients. Based on the analytic solution and the choice of special parameter values, we obtain the collision mechanism of two soliton solutions. Furthermore, the important advantage of the RH problem is that it can be further used to study the soliton resolution and the long-time asymptotic behavior of the solutions.

Abstract:The $N$-soliton solution is presented for a two-component modified nonlinear Schrödinger equation which describes the propagation of short pulses in birefringent optical fibers. The solution is found to be expressed in terms of determinants. The proof of the solution is carried out by means of an elementary theory of determinants. The generalization of the 2-component system to the multi-component system is discussed as well as a (2+1)-dimensional nonlocal equation arising from its continuum limit.

Abstract:We investigate the long time dynamics of the nonlinear Schrödinger equation (NLS) with combined powers on the waveguide manifold $\mathbb{R}^d\times\mathbb{T}$. Different from the previously studied NLS-models with single power on the waveguide manifolds, where the non-scale-invariance is mainly due to the mixed nature of the underlying domain, the non-scale-invariance of the present model is both geometrical and structural. By considering different combinations of the nonlinearities, we establish both qualitative and quantitative properties of the soliton, scattering and blow-up solutions. As one of the main novelties of the paper compared to the previous results for the NLS with single power, we particularly construct two different rescaled families of variational problems, which leads to an NLS with single power in different limiting profiles respectively, to establish the periodic dependence results.

Abstract:The modified nonlinear Schrödinger (NLS) equation was proposed to describe the nonlinear propagation of the Alfven waves and the femtosecond optical pulses in a nonlinear single-mode optical fiber. In this paper, we present the inverse scattering transform for the modified NLS equation iut+uxx+2|u|2u+i1α(|u|2u)x=0,α>0,with nonvanishing boundary values at infinity u(x,t)∼u±e−4iα2t+2iαx,x→±∞.An appropriate two-sheeted Riemann surface is introduced to map the original spectral parameter k into a single-valued parameter z. The direct scattering problem is shown to be well posed for potentials u such that u−u±∈L1,2(R±), for which existence and analyticity properties of eigenfunctions and scattering data are established. Their asymptotic behaviors and the symmetries are analyzed in details based on the Lax pair for the modified NLS equation. Then the inverse scattering problem is formulated as a Riemann–Hilbert (RH) problem associated with the problem of nonzero boundary conditions. The existence and uniqueness of solution for the mixed RH problem for t>0 are strictly proved by decomposing it into a pure RH problem and a scattering RH problem. The N-soliton solutions for the modified NLS equation are obtained via a reconstruction formulae between solution of the modified NLS equation and the solution of above mixed RH problem. As an illustrate example of N-soliton formula, for N=1 and N=2, two kinds of one-soliton solutions and three kinds of two-soliton solutions are explicitly presented, respectively according to different distribution of the spectrum. The dynamical feature of those solutions are characterized in the particular case with a quartet of discrete eigenvalues. It is shown that distribution of the spectrum and non-vanishing boundary also affect feature of soliton solutions. Finally, we analyze the differences between our results and those on zero boundary case.

Abstract:In this paper, we study a generalized higher-order nonlinear Schrödinger equation in an optical fiber or a planar waveguide. We obtain the Lax pair and -Fold Darboux transformation (DT) with being a positive integer. Based on Lax pair obtained by us, we derive the infinitely-many conservation laws. We give the bright one-, two- and -soliton solutions, and the first-, second- and th-order breather solutions based on the -Fold DT. We conclude that the velocities of the bright solitons are influenced by the distributed gain function, , and variable coefficients in equation, , , and via the asymptotic analysis, where represents the propagation variable or spatial coordinate. We also graphically observe that: the velocities of the first- and second-order breathers will be affected by , , and , and background wave depend on .

Abstract:In this article, a (3+1)-dimensional variable-coefficient breaking soliton equation is investigated. Based on the Bell polynomials and symbolic computation, the bilinear forms and Backlund transformation for the equation are derived. One-, two-, and three-soliton solutions are obtained via the Hirota method. N-soliton solutions are also constructed. Propagation characteristics and interaction behaviors of the solitons are discussed graphically: (i) solitonic direction and position depend on the sign of the wave numbers; (ii) shapes of the multisoliton interactions in the scaled space and time coordinates are affected by the variable coefficients; (iii) multisoliton interactions are elastic for that the velocity and amplitude of each soliton remain unchanged after each interaction except for a phase shift.

Abstract:In this paper, under investigation is a (2 + 1)-dimensional variable-coefficient nonlinear Schrödinger equation, which is introduced to the study of an optical fiber, where [Formula: see text] is the temporal variable, variable coefficients [Formula: see text] and [Formula: see text] are related to the group velocity dispersion, [Formula: see text] and [Formula: see text] represent the Kerr nonlinearity and linear term, respectively. Via the Hirota bilinear method, bilinear forms are obtained, and bright one-, two-, three- and N-soliton solutions as well as dark one- and two-soliton solutions are derived, where [Formula: see text] is a positive integer. Velocities and amplitudes of the bright/dark one solitons are obtained via the characteristic-line equations. With the graphical analysis, we investigate the influence of the variable coefficients on the propagation and interaction of the solitons. It is found that [Formula: see text] can only affect the phase shifts of the solitons, while [Formula: see text], [Formula: see text] and [Formula: see text] determine the amplitudes and velocities of the bright/dark solitons.

Abstract:The goal of this article is to obtain soliton cluster solutions of (2 + 1)-dimensional nonlinear variable coefficient Schrödinger equations through computerized symbolic computation. By applying the self-similarity method, one soliton solution is constructed for the NLS equations with variable coefficient, which provide a model of the propagation of the soliton waves. Consequently, the solitonary cluster solution is achieved in different structures. Additionally, the propagation of the obtaining solitonary cluster solutions is analyzed and discussed. The results are useful to explain the soliton phenomena in nonlinear optics.

Abstract:This paper investigates a generalized form of the nonlinear Schrödinger equation characterized by a logarithmic nonlinearity. The nonlinear Schrödinger equation, a fundamental equation in nonlinear wave theory, is applied across various physical systems including nonlinear optics, Bose–Einstein condensates, and fluid dynamics. We specifically explore a logarithmic variant of the nonlinear Schrödinger equation to model complex wave phenomena that conventional polynomial nonlinearities fail to capture. We derive four distinct forms of the nonlinear Schrödinger equation with logarithmic nonlinearity and provide exact solutions for each, encompassing bright, dark, and kink-type solitons, as well as a range of periodic solitary waves. Analytical techniques are employed to construct bounded and unbounded traveling wave solutions, and the dynamics of these solutions are analyzed through phase portraits of the associated dynamical systems. These findings extend the scope of the nonlinear Schrödinger equation to more accurately describe wave behaviors in complex media and open avenues for future research into non-standard nonlinear wave equations.
