Abstract:For a monomial ideal $I\subset S=K[x_1,...,x_n]$, we show that $\sdepth(S/I)\geq n-g(I)$, where $g(I)$ is the number of the minimal monomial generators of $I$. If $I=vI'$, where $v\in S$ is a monomial, then we see that $\sdepth(S/I)=\sdepth(S/I')$. We prove that if $I$ is a monomial ideal $I\subset S$ minimally generated by three monomials, then $I$ and $S/I$ satisfy the Stanley conjecture. Given a saturated monomial ideal $I\subset K[x_1,x_2,x_3]$ we show that $\sdepth(I)=2$. As a consequence, $\sdepth(I)\geq \sdepth(K[x_1,x_2,x_3]/I)+1$ for any monomial ideal in $I\subset K[x_1,x_2,x_3]$.

Abstract:We give several bounds for $sdepth_S(I+J)$, $sdepth_S(I\cap J)$, $sdepth_S(S/(I+J))$, $sdepth_S(S/(I\cap J))$, $sdepth_S(I:J)$ and $sdepth_S(S/(I:J))$ where $I,J\subset S=K[x_1,...,x_n]$ are monomial ideals. Also, we give several equivalent forms of Stanley Conjecture for $I$ and $S/I$, where $I\subset S$ is a monomial ideal.

Abstract:Let $S$ be a polynomial algebra over a field. We study classes of monomial ideals (as for example lexsegment ideals) of $S$ having minimal depth. In particular, Stanley's conjecture holds for these ideals. Also we show that if Stanley's conjecture holds for a square free monomial ideal then it holds for all its trivial modifications.

Abstract:Let $K$ be a infinite field, $S=K[x_1,\ldots,x_n]$ and $0\subset I\subsetneq J\subset S$ two squarefree monomial ideals. In a previous paper we proved a new formula for the Hilbert depth of $J/I$. In this paper, we illustrate how one can use the Stanley-Reisner correspondence between (relative) simplicial complexes and (quotients of) squarefree monomial ideals, in order to reobtain some basic properties of the Hilbert depth. More precisely, we show that $\operatorname{depth}(J/I)\leq \operatorname{hdepth}(J/I)\leq \dim(J/I)$. Also, we show that $\operatorname{hdepth}(I)\geq \operatorname{hdepth}(S/I)+1$, if $S/I$ is Cohen-Macaulay.

Abstract:Let $K$ be a field and $S=K[x_1,\ldots,x_n]$, the ring of polynomials in $n$ variables, over $K$. Using the fact that the Hilbert depth is an upper bound for the Stanley depth of a quotient of squarefree monomial ideals $0\subset I\subsetneq J\subset S$, we prove several combinatorial inequalities which involve the coefficients of the polynomial $f(t)=(1+t+\cdots+t^{m-1})^n$.

Abstract:We have introduced the Janet's algorithm for the Stanley decomposition of a monomial ideal I in a polynomial ring S = K[x_1,...,x_n] and prove that Janet's algorithm gives the squarefree Stanley decomposition of S/I for a squarefree monomial ideal I. We have also shown that the Janet's algorithm gives a partition of a simplicial complex.

Abstract:This paper investgates Stanley-Reisner ideals with pure resolutions. We first describe two infinite families of such ideals associated to highly symmetric complexes. We then prove a partial analogue to the first Boij-Söderberg Conjecture for Stanley-Reisner ideals, by detailing an algorithm for constructing Stanley-Reisner ideals with pure Betti diagrams of any given shape, save for an initial shift.

Abstract:In the seminal work of Stanley, several conjectures were made on the structure of Littlewood-Richardson coefficients for the multiplication of Jack symmetric functions. Motivated by recent results of Alexandersson and the present author, we postulate that a certain 'windowing' property holds for all such Jack L-R coefficients. This property provides a vast set of relations between these coefficients and allows for their direct computation in certain novel cases. We demonstrate compatibility between our windowing conjecture and the conjectures of Stanley, with the hope of illuminating the structures within.

Abstract:Let be a graded ideal of a standard graded polynomial ring S with coefficients in a field K , and let be the -number of I . In previous work, we showed that for any graded ideal , then , for all , where is the initial degree of I and b is a suitable integer. In the present paper, using polarization, we extend Simon conjecture to any monomial ideal. As a consequence, if Simon conjecture holds, I is a monomial ideal generated in a single degree and all powers of I have linear quotients, then . This fact suggests that if I is an equigenerated monomial ideal with linear powers, then , for all . We verify this conjecture for monomial ideals with linear powers having , edge ideals with linear resolution, polymatroidal ideals, and Hibi ideals.

Abstract:A conjecture of Mallows and Sloane conveys the dominance of Hilbert series for finding basic invariants of finite linear groups if the Hilbert series of the invariant ring is of a certain explicit canonical form. However, the conjecture does not hold in general by a well-known counterexample of Stanley. In this article, we give a constraint on lower bounds for the degrees of homogeneous system of parameters of rings of invariants of finite linear groups depending on the universal denominator of Hilbert series defined by Derksen. We consider the conjecture with the universal denominator on abelian groups and provide some criteria guaranteeing the existence of homogeneous system of parameters of certain degrees. In this case, Stanley's counterexample could be avoided, and the homogeneous system of parameters is optimal.

Abstract:We consider homogeneous binomial ideals $I=(f_1,\ldots,f_n)$ in $K[x_1, \ldots, x_n]$, where $f_i = a_i x_i^{d_i} - b_i m_i$ and $a_i \neq 0$. When such an ideal is a complete intersection, we show that the monomials which are not divisible by $x_i^{d_i}$ for $i=1,\ldots,n$ form a vector space basis for the corresponding quotient, and we describe the Macaulay dual generator in terms of a directed graph that we associate to $I$. These two properties can be seen as a natural generalization of well-known properties for monomial complete intersections. Moreover, we give a description of the radical of the resultant of $I$ in terms of the directed graph.

Abstract:Let $S=K[x_1,\ldots,x_n]$ be the ring of polynomials over a field $K$. Given two monomial ideals $0\subset I\subsetneq J \subset S$, we present a new method to compute the Hilbert depth of $J/I$. As an application, we show that if $u\in S$ is a monomial regular of $S/I$, then $\operatorname{hdepth}(S/I)\geq \operatorname{hdepth}(S/(I,u))\geq \operatorname{hdepth}(S/I)-1.$ Also, we reprove the formula of the Hilbert depth of a squarefree Veronese ideal.

Abstract:Bipartite determinantal ideals are introduced by Illian and the author as a vast generalization of the classical determinantal ideals intensively studied in commutative algebra, algebraic geometry, representation theory and combinatorics. We introduce a combinatorial model called concurrent vertex maps to describe the Stanley-Reisner complex of the initial ideal of any bipartite determinantal ideal, and study properties and applications of this model including vertex decomposability, shelling orders, formulas of the Hilbert series and $h$-polynomials.
