The vector field in these systems inherits a mass and is governed by the Proca action which generalizes that of Maxwell. Following previous work by Druet & al. we prove existence and uniform bounds for such systems in the double critical case of dimension 4.

Abstract:Consider a quasi-linear system of two Klein–Gordon equations with masses m1, m2. We prove that when m1≠2m2 and m2≠2m1, such a system has global solutions for small, smooth, compactly supported Cauchy data. This extends a result proved by Sunagawa (J. Differential Equations 192 (2) (2003) 308) in the semi-linear case. Moreover, we show that global existence holds true also when m1=2m2 and a convenient null condition is satisfied by the nonlinearities.

Global existence and modified scattering for the solutions to the Vlasov-Maxwell system with a small distribution function

Abstract:The purpose of this paper is twofold. In the first part, we provide a new proof of the global existence of the solutions to the Vlasov-Maxwell system with a small initial distribution function. Our approach relies on vector field methods, together with the Glassey-Strauss decomposition of the electromagnetic field, and does not require any support restriction on the initial data or smallness assumption on the Maxwell field. Contrary to previous works on Vlasov systems in dimension $3$, we do not modify the linear commutators and avoid then many technical difficulties. In the second part of this paper, we prove a modified scattering result for these solutions. More precisely, we obtain that the electromagnetic field has a radiation field along future null infinity and approaches, for large time, a smooth solution to the vacuum Maxwell equations. As for the Vlasov-Poisson system, in constrast, the distribution function converges to a new density function along modifications of the characteristics of the free relativistic transport equation. In order to define these logarithmic corrections, we identify an effective asymptotic Lorentz force. By considering logarithmical modifications of the linear commutators, defined in terms of derivatives of the asymptotic Lorentz force, we finally prove higher order regularity results for the limit distribution function.

Abstract:We prove a local-in-time existence and uniqueness theorem for a smooth classical solution to the spatially homogeneous Boltzmann equation with cutoff soft potentials. Our proof is based on a series of bilinear estimates for the integrability and Sobolev regularity of the associated collision operator. While the global-in-time existence is left inconclusive, we give a lower bound of the maximal time of existence and a necessary condition for finite time extinction of existence.

We use parameter-dependent compactness lemma to prove the existence of nontrivial solution for μ small and λ large enough, then explore the asymptotic behavior as μ → 0 and λ → ∞ . Moreover, we also use truncation technique to study the existence and asymptotic behavior of positive solution of Klein–Gordon–Maxwell system when f ( u ) := | u | q − 2 u where 2 < q < 4 .

Abstract:We are interested in the Klein–Gordon–Zakharov system in ℝ^1+2 , which is an important model in plasma physics with extensive mathematical studies. The system can be regarded as semilinear coupled wave and Klein–Gordon equations with nonlinearities violating the null conditions. Without the compactness assumptions on the initial data, we aim to establish the existence of small global solutions, and in addition, we want to illustrate the optimal pointwise decay of the solutions. Furthermore, we show that the Klein–Gordon part of the system enjoys linear scattering, while the wave part has uniformly bounded low-order energy. None of these goals is easy because of the slow pointwise decay nature of the linear wave and Klein–Gordon components in ℝ^1+2 . We tackle the difficulties by carefully exploiting the properties of the wave and the Klein–Gordon components, and by relying on the ghost weight energy estimates to close higher order energy estimates. This appears to be the first pointwise decay result and the first scattering result for the Klein–Gordon–Zakharov system in ℝ^1+2 without compactness assumptions.

Abstract:In this paper we study the model that the usual Maxwell's equations are supplemented with a constitution relation in which the electric displacement equals a constant time the electric field plus an internal polarization variable and the magnetic displacement equals a constant time the magnetic field plus the microscopic magnetization. Using the Galerkin method and viscosity vanishing approach, we obtain the existence of the global weak solution for the Landau-Lifshitz-Maxwell equations. The main difficulties in this study are due to the loss of compactness in the system.

Abstract:In this paper, we prove the global well-posedness property of charge critical Dirac-Klein-Gordon (DKG) system in $\mathbb{R}^{3+1}$ for small initial data in a space of scale invariant data which has extra weighted regularity in the angular variables. Therefore, by finite speed propagation, we could also derive the local well-posedness property for large initial data in the same space. To author's knowledge, our result appears to be the first result on the critical 3D DKG.
Bekenstein bounds in maximally symmetric nonlinear electrodynamics

Abstract:We explore dynamical features of the maximally symmetric nonlinear extension of classical electromagnetism, recently proposed in the literature as "ModMax" electrodynamics. This family of theories is the only one that preserves all the symmetries of Maxwell's theory, having applications in the study of regular black hole solutions and supersymmetry. The purpose of this article is three-fold. Firstly, we study the initial-value problem of ModMax and show, by means of a simple geometric criterion, that such a theory admits a well-posed formulation. Secondly, we prove a series of geometric inequalities relating energy, charge, angular momentum, and size in ModMax. The validity of these bounds gives strong evidence of a universal inequality conjectured by Bekenstein for macroscopic systems. Finally, we perform the first stable numerical simulations of ModMax in the highly nonlinear regime, and verify an inequality between energy, size and angular momentum in bounded domains.

The main goal of this paper is to establish global existence of solutions to the coupled system and to explore their long-time behavior. Abstract:On the three dimensional Euclidean space, for data with finite energy, it is well-known that the Maxwell-Klein-Gordon equations admit global solutions. However, the asymptotic behaviours of the solutions for the data with non-vanishing charge and arbitrary large size are unknown. It is conjectured that the solutions disperse as linear waves and enjoy the so-called peeling properties for pointwise estimates. We provide a gauge independent proof of the conjecture.

Abstract:This paper addresses large-data local existence and uniqueness of classical solutions to the inhomogeneous Landau equation in the hard potentials case (including Maxwell molecules). Solutions have previously been constructed by Chaturvedi [SIAM J. Math. Anal., 55(5), 5345--5385, 2023] for initial data in an exponentially-weighted $H^{10}$ space, but it is not a priori clear whether these solutions have more regularity than the initial data. We improve Chaturvedi's existence result in two ways: our solutions are $C^\infty$ for positive times, and we allow initial data in a sub-exponentially-weighted $L^\infty$ space, at the cost of requiring a mild positivity condition at time zero. To prove uniqueness, we require stronger assumptions on the initial data: Hölder continuity and the absence of vacuum regions. These are the same assumptions that are required for uniqueness in prior work on the soft potentials case. Along the way to proving existence and uniqueness, we establish some useful results that were previously only known in the case of soft potentials, including spreading of positivity and propagation of Hölder continuity. Many of the proof strategies from the soft potentials case do not apply here because of the more severe loss of velocity moments.

Abstract:We study the many-body problem of charged particles interacting with their self-generated electromagnetic field. We model the dynamics of the particles by the many-body Maxwell-Schrödinger system, where the particles are treated quantum mechanically and the electromagnetic field is a classical quantity. We prove the existence of a unique local in time solution to this nonlinear initial value problem using a contraction mapping argument.

Existence of a minimizer to the particle number-Casimir functional for the Einstein-Vlasov system

Abstract:In 2001 Wolansky \cite{Wol} introduced a particle number-Casimir functional for the Einstein-Vlasov system. Two open questions are associated with this functional. First, a meaningful variational problem should be formulated and the existence of a minimizer to this problem should be established. The second issue is to show that a minimizer, for some choice of the parameters, is a static solution of the Einstein-Vlasov system. In the present work we solve the first problem by proving the existence of a minimizer to the particle number-Casimir functional. On the technical side, it is a main achievement that we are able to bypass the non-compactness of minimizing sequences by new arguments in both $v$-space and $x$-space, which might have several further applications. We note that such compactness results for the Einstein-Vlasov system have been absent in the literature, whereas similar results have been known in the Newtonian case. We also provide arguments which give strong support that minimizers corresponding to small masses are static solutions of the Einstein-Vlasov system. Furthermore, our analysis leads us to propose a new stability criterion for static solutions: We conjecture that a static solution for which the Casimir-binding energy is positive is stable for mass-preserving perturbations.

Abstract:Maxwell-Stefan systems describing the dynamics of the molar concentrations of a gas mixture with an arbitrary number of components are analyzed in a bounded domain under isobaric, isothermal conditions. The systems consist of mass balance equations and equations for the chemical potentials, depending on the relative velocities, supplemented with initial and homogeneous Neumann boundary conditions. Global-in-time existence of bounded weak solutions to the quasilinear parabolic system and their exponential decay to the homogeneous steady state are proved. The mathematical difficulties are due to the singular Maxwell-Stefan diffusion matrix, the cross-diffusion coupling, and the lack of standard maximum principles. Key ideas of the proofs are the Perron-Frobenius theory for quasi-positive matrices, entropy-dissipation methods, and a new entropy variable formulation allowing for the proof of nonnegative lower and upper bounds for the concentrations.
