Abstract:In a reaction system using water as the main solvent, the stable TiO2 nanocrystal sol was synthesized under the mild conditions of atmospheric pressure and low temperature (70 degrees C) through the improved sol-gel method with controlling tetrabutyl titanate to fully hydrolyze and slowly polymerize. TiO2/bentonite composite photocatalytic material was further prepared by the loading of TiO2 nanocrystal sol on the surface of bentonite. XRD, SEM and BET were adopted to analyze the structure and morphology of as-prepared samples, and the photocatalytic activities were also investigated. The results show that the large water addition amount is conducive to the formation of TiO2 nanocrystals. When the molar ratio of deionized water to tetrabutyl titanate is higher than 167:1, the anatase TiO2 nanocrystals appear in the sol system. TiO2 nanocrystals are mainly loaded on the surface of bentonite rather than being embedded into the structure between bentonite layers. However, compared with a pure bentonite, the TiO2 loading significantly increases the specific surface area of the material. When the molar ratio of deionized water to tetrabutyl titanate is 192:1, the composite photocatalytic material shows the highest photocatalytic activity under UV light, and the degradation rate to methylene blue can reach 93.8%.

Abstract:In this paper, based on the clay brick of building waste, nano-titanium dioxide photocatalytic decorative concrete was prepared, and its application in the pavement structure of a railway freight yard was studied. The results show that the loading capacity of nano-titanium dioxide on clay sand carrier is better than that on zeolite sand. With the increase of powder content, the photocatalytic efficiency of decorative concrete surface decreases, but the degree of reduction is small. Compared with laboratory conditions, the reduction rate of NO X in surface layer of decorative concrete under natural curing condition is lower. The photocatalytic efficiency did not decrease significantly at 90 days. Cement cementing could greatly improve the bonding effect of nano-titanium dioxide, which made the photocatalytic activity of decorative concrete surface layer have good durability. In this paper, decorative concrete is applied to the pavement engineering of a railway container yard in Liaoning Province. The pavement structure combination design, cement concrete pavement thickness design, pavement panel design and joint design are analyzed.

In-Situ Generation of Nano TiO2 from MIL-125(Ti) and Its Role in Boosting the Photocatalytic Degradation of Tetracycline Hydrochloride

Abstract:Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs), such as MIL-125(Ti), are advanced photocatalytic materials due to their tunable compositions and functionalities. However, their practical application in photocatalysis is often limited by their wide bandgap and the inherent structural instability. This study presents a strategy to improve the photocatalytic performance of MIL-125(Ti) by hydrothermal reaction combined with an in-situ decomposition to generate nano TiO2, creating a composite with g-C3N5 nanosheets. The obtained composite exhibited a rate constant of 0.00122 min(-1) mg(-1) for the degradation of tetracycline hydrochloride under visible light irradiation, which is 24.4 and 20.3 times that of g-C3N5 and MIL-125(Ti), respectively. Characterization results indicated the formation of an effective composite structure that improved the separation efficiency of photogenerated carriers and promoted the generation of reactive oxygen species. The in-situ generated TiO2 within the MIL-125(Ti)/gC(3)N(5) composite during the preparation and photocatalysis processes not only compensated for the structural damage to the original MIL-125(Ti) but also significantly enhanced its degradation performance under visible light. The recyclability and stability of the composite material were also demonstrated, highlighting its potential for practical photocatalytic applications.

Abstract:TiO 2 /Fe 2 O 3 nanocomposite was fabricated by a hydrolysis-precipitation approach, with TiCl 4 as precursor and Fe 2 O 3 as support. The crystal phase, diameter and morphology of the sample particle were characterized by X-ray diffraction, transmission electron microscope. The results show that the samples are composed of haematite and rutile. The morphology and diameter of rutile particle, coating effect and weight percentages of haematite and rutile are related to the preparing temperature and molar ratio of Fe/Ti. The photocatalytic activity of the prepared photocatalyst was estimated in an aqueous solution at ambient temperature of 303K. The results imply that the photocatalytic activity of the sample is higher than that of phase pure rutile, related to Fe/Ti molar ratio and its preparing temperature. These results can be attribute to the microsturcture of the sample. A synergistic effect exists between titania and haematite in the nanocomposite.
TiO2 Intercalated Talc Nanocomposite: Preparation, Characterization, and Its Photocatalytic Performance

Abstract:Talc is a layered silicate that was long recognized as un-intercalated. In this study, we prepared a novel talc/TiO2 nanocomposite by intercalating tetrabutyltitanate (TNBT) into talc and then hydrolyzing and calcining them at 500 degrees C. The XRD and TEM characterizations suggested that we successfully intercalated TNBT into the talc layers while the original layered structure was preserved. The pore volumes and BET surface areas were enhanced greatly during the preparation of the nanocomposite, which induced higher methylene blue (MB) adsorption when compared with the acidified talc. The photocatalytic degradation capacity of the samples increased significantly with the loading of TiO2 nanoparticles and TNBT/talc ratios. In addition, the spatial confinement of talc layers may also enhance its photocatalytic activity. The maximum MB removal rate exceeded 99.8% at 2.0 g L-1. The dimethylamino and methyl groups of MB molecules were preferably degraded according to the full-scan UV-Vis spectra. The MB removal rates increased with initial pH value and declined with initial MB concentration. Furthermore, the as-prepared talc/TiO2 nanocomposite is a recyclable material according to the recycling experiments. The intercalation of talc and preparation of talc/TiO2 nanocomposite opened a new approach to utilize talc and a novel method to fabricate photocatalytic materials.
Preparation and Properties of TiO2/illite Composites Synthesized at Different Hydrothermal Ph Values

Abstract:In this experiment, The TiO2/illite composites were synthesized by a simple hydrothermal method, taking Ti(SO4)(2) as Ti precursor and illite as substrate. The as-prepared composites were characterized by XRD, FT-IR, BET, SEM, TEM and photocatalytic performance. The results show that TiO2 particles do not enter the interlayer of the illite because the (0 01) diffraction peak of illite in the composites does not shift. Illite and TiO2 are connected by Si-O-Ti and Al-O-Ti bond and the presence of illite can inhibit the transition from anatase to rutile. Moreover, the dispersion of TiO2 particles in the composite is obviously improved. When the pH value is 1.5, the photocatalytic performance of the composites is the best. The degradation rate of methyl orange (MO) solution can reach 73.4% after 8 h visible light irradiation and 93.6% after 40 min ultraviolet light irradiation, which is better than P25.

Abstract:The TiO2/diatomite composite was synthesized through a mild hydrolysis of titanyl sulfate. The prepared composite was characterized by X-ray diffraction, N-2 adsorption-desorption, scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and UV-vis diffused reflectance spectroscopy. The results demonstrate that the anatase TiO2 nanopartilces anchored on the surface of diatomite with Ti-O-Si bonds between diatomite and TiO2. The photodegradation of gaseous formaldehyde under UV irradiation by the TiO2/diatomite composite was studied under various operating conditions, including relative humidity, illumination intensity and catalyst amount, which have significant influence on the degradation process. The TiO2/diatomite composite exhibited better photocatalytic activity than pure TiO2, which could be attributed to the favorable nanoparticles dispersibility and strong formaldehyde adsorption capacity. In addition, the composite exhibited outstanding reusability over five cycles. The TiO2/diatomite composite shows great promising application foreground in formaldehyde degradation. Abstract:The photo-catalytic efficiency and durability of nano-TiO2 photo-catalytic cementitious materials for oxidizing nitrogen dioxide were investigated under simulated sunlight irradiation. The experimental results showed that the photo-catalytic efficiency increased with increase of the content of nano-TiO2. When 15wt% nano-TiO2 was added, the photo-catalytic efficiency was equal to 223% of that of standard cement. When activated carbon was used as the carrier of nano-TiO2, the photo-catalytic efficiency of cementitious nano-TiO2 could be enhanced markedly. For example, the photo-catalytic efficiency could reach to 85.7%, which was as much as 359% of that of standard cement when the contents of activated carbon and nano-TiO2 were both 10wt%. Compared with nano-TiO2 powder, the photo-catalysis durability of cementitious nano-TiO2 supported by activated carbon could be improved clearly for that activated carbon could absorb nitrogen dioxide effectively, which was favored to the photo-oxidation of nano-TiO2 on nitrogen dioxide.

In this paper, the nano-scale morphology TiO2 synthesized under different experimental methods is briefly described, and the effect of crystal structure and morphology of TiO2 on its photocatalytic properties is emphasized.

Abstract:In this paper, we report a kind of nano-TiO2/stellerite composite with enhanced photoactivity, which was synthesized by a typical homogeneous precipitation method followed by a calcination crystallization process using natural stellerite as support. The as-prepared composites were characterized via X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), nitrogen adsorption-desorption, high resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM) and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). The results showed that TiO2 loading amounts and calcination temperatures had significant influence on the adsorption and photocatalytic degradation properties of phenol. Moreover, it was indicated that the TiO2 nanoparticles (NPs) with smaller grain size (around 12.0 nm) and narrower size distributions were uniformly deposited on the surface of stellerite as a layer of film. Compared with commercial P25, the received composite exhibited more superior photocatalytic degradation performance towards phenol. The enhanced photocatalytic degradation performance should result from the better dispersibility of TiO2 NPs and higher separation efficiency of photogenerated electron-hole pairs. This work may set foundation for the practical application of this new composite photocatalyst in the field of wastewater treatment. (C) 2018 The Society of Powder Technology Japan. Abstract:A novel micro-mesopores composite material has successfully been synthesized at basic hydrothermal conditions using natural mineral montmorillonite (MMT) and tetraethoxysilane (TEOS). Two surfactants, cetyltrimethyl ammonium bromide (CTAB) and polyethylene glycol (PEG), have been employed in order to shape the pores in the composite. The resultant silica-clay has large surface area (472 m(2)/g) and high hydrothermal stability, which makes it a potentially host-material for catalyst. The molecular size of different surfactant leads to the multi-peak distribution of pore size, and the surfactant of larger size (PEG) corresponds to the formation of larger pores. Moreover, the photocatalytic results show that, comparing with pure TiO2 particles, the loaded TiO2 on such silica-clay shows higher photodegradation rate of methyl orange (MO) in aqueous. Abstract:The nano-TiO2/diatomite composite photocatalyst was prepared by sol-gel method.Refractory dimethylamine(DMA)was chosen as the model pollutant.The effects of various preparation conditions on photocatalytic activity were studied.Results showed that the optimum preparation conditions of TiO2/diatomite photocatalyst could be achieved by water/alcohol volume ratio of 0.6,calcination at 500℃for 5h,the rate of diatomite for 2g∶9mL loaded once and pH 2.Characterization using SEM and XRD indicated that the sizes of composite photocatalysts were less than 100 nm.The average degradation efficiency for 400mg·L-1 DMA by 3g·L-1 photocatalyst was approximately 70%for 6h.

Abstract:As compared to TiO2 photo-catalyst,the surface activity,photocatalytic activity and thermal stability of TiO2/SiO2 composite catalyst,which prepared using SiO2 as carrier or nuclear,are better.The precipitated silica was obtained from fly ash.The titania/silica(TiO2/SiO2) composite was prepared by chemical coating method using precipitated silica and tetrabutyl titanate as precursors.The composite was characterized by means of X-ray difractometry,FT-IR spectroscopy and TG-DTA analysis.It is confirmed that the silica is efficiently coated by titania through FT-IR spectroscopy and TG-DTA analysis.The TiO2/SiO2 composite possesses high thermal stability.The phase of silica remains amorphous and titania is anatase after the composite calcined at 700 ℃ for 4 h.While,titania transforms into rutile when calcined at 900 ℃.

Abstract:The nano-TiO2/purified diatomite composite materials with core-shell structures were prepared by hydrolysis precipitation using purified diatomite as carrier and titanium sulfate as precursor. The composite materials were characterized by transmission electron microscope (TEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), low temperature nitrogen adsorption and mercury porosimetry. The photocatalytic composite coating based on the nano-TiO2/prified diatomite composite materials was prepared and its properties of formaldehyde degradation were investigated. Meanwhile, the degradation mechanism of formaldehyde gas was discussed. The results showed that the nano-TiO2/prified diatomite composite materials were formed core-shell structures, and the TiO2 nanoparticles were anatase with the average size of about 10 nm?The test results show that the formaldehyde purification performance of the coatings has met the technical requirements of Class I materials in the Chinese national standard JC/T 1074-2008.

Abstract:Heavy metals and antibiotics are known for their difficulty of removal and enormous harmful intermediates released during degradation as well as the great threat to the health of human beings, which arouses urgent demand for highly efficient photocatalysts as solution. Thus, in this work, TiO2/BiOCl heterogeneous composite was synthesized via a facile and low-cost hydrolysis-precipitation method at room temperature without organic reagent. The characteristic results indicate anatase TiO2 nanoparticles with smaller grain size (around 15 nm) were uniformly dispersed on the surface of BiOCl nanosheets to form the heterogeneous structure. The hybrid catalyst exhibits higher photocatalytic performance for both Cr(VI) and tetracycline, and the synergistic degradation effect is demonstrated in the co-existent system. The superior photoactivity is mainly attributed to the excellent visible light capture capability and effective separation of photogenerated electron-holes pairs. Moreover, the main active radicals for Cr(VI) are photo-induced electrons (e(-)), and that for tetracycline are superoxide radical (center dot O-2(-)) and holes (h(+)). Furthermore, the effect of mass ratio of TiO2 and BiOCl on the photocatalytic performance was discussed and a speculated degradation mechanism was also proposed. In summary, this work would provide significant meaningful guidance for the development of Ti-based composites in the field of wastewater treatment.
Preparation and photo-catalytic properties of nanostructured TiO2 thin films coated on different ceramics

Abstract:In the research,titanium dioxide films were coated on two kinds of ceramics by using sol-gel method.XRD,XPS and SEM were used to investigate their photo-catalytic property.The results indicated that the average grainsize of TiO_2 was about 15 nm,the TiO_2 thin film coated on the vitreous enamel was uniform and continuous,which thickness was about 300 nm,and the films coated on the stoneware were nonuniform;some(ions) from the two substrates were observed to permeated to the films by XPS.Photocatatytic degradation experiment showed that phenol can be degraded by the TiO_2 thin films coated on the two kinds of ceramics,its kinetics was the first order,the photocatalytic activity followed the decreasing order: TiO_2/vitreous enamel>TiO_2/stoneware;it was considered that Ca~(2+) permeated from substrates could reduce the photocatalytic activity,and the TiO_2 thin films could degrade Badistan wastewater.When the degradation experiments were repeated 20 times for the same film,the removal ration of TiO_2/vitreous enamel and TiO_2/stoneware were decreased 9% and 6% respectively.

Abstract:Diatomite supported nano-TiO2 composite was prepared by the hydrolytic deposition method with purified diatomite. The composite was characterized by a scanning electron microscope and X-ray diffraction , and the photocatalytic degrading decoloriza- tion test of the composite was investigated. The results show that the TiO2 coated on the surfacee of diatomite uniformly is the crystal of anatase, the average crystal size is 12 nm. The photocatalytic activity of samples obtained was examined by decolorization test of Rhodanmine B solutions and shows that the composite of diatomite supported nano-TiO2 has strong photocatalytic activity, and the decolorizing rate for Rhodanmine B solutions is obviously larger than that of the nano-TiO2 merchant P25 from Degussa company in Germany.

Abstract:Nitrogen-doped nano TiO 2 powder was prepared using the solvothermal method. The nano TiO 2 powder was loaded on the porous ceramic carriers with a different aperture through the vacuum impregnation method using polyvinyl alcohol as a binder. The effects of deionized water content and carrier pore size on the microstructure and photocatalytic activity of nitrogen-doped nano TiO 2 powder and supported TiO 2 were investigated. The results show that, when introducing 25% deionized water, the nitrogen-doped nano TiO 2 powder obtains a good crystallinity, small grain size, and high photocatalytic properties because of adequate hydrolysis of tetrabutyl titanate. The photocatalytic activity of nitrogen-doped nano TiO 2 powder is improved by distorting the lattice and inhibiting grain growth. The nano TiO 2 powder can be tightly loaded on the surface of the strut or hole-wall of porous ceramic carriers. The absorption and photocatalytic activity of supported TiO 2 are demonstrably improved as the macropore provides the transmission channel, and the micropore realizes a good absorbing effect. The 20 PPI carrier with high porosity and suitable strength is beneficial to promote the photocatalytic property of supported TiO 2 . Moreover, the supported TiO 2 is easily recycled and reused.

Abstract:As a widely used construction material, concrete is an ideal substrate for environmental functional materials. However, ordinary concrete lacks pollution resistance. When exposed to the natural environment, it is easily susceptible to microbial growth or organic contamination. Therefore, it is necessary to enhance its surface cleaning ability through modification methods. The existing anti-pollution materials are cumbersome to prepare and have a short lifespan. In this study, we employed in-situ synthesis to construct a TiO2/Ag coating on the surface of concrete. When illuminated, the catalyst coating generates electron-hole pairs, and with the synergistic acceleration of the heterojunction interface and oxygen defects, they separate and react with water to produce hydroxyl radicals and superoxide radicals. Under simulated sunlight with an intensity of 50mW/cm2, this material can achieve an 86.4% organic matter decomposition rate and a 96.7% microbial inactivation rate, and it can remain stable over ten cycles. This study presents a viable technical solution for the design of sustainable self-cleaning building materials.

Abstract:Abstract In terms of the problems of photo-catalytic degradation of exhaust gas, especially the low efficiency and short durability of NOx, an integrated loading method of fully reclaimed permeable concrete structure from the selection of photo-catalysts, aggregate infiltration and internal incorporation was designed and tested in this study. Through systematic tests, all those methods have fully improved the photo-catalytic oxidation effect, and the NO x degradation efficiency can reach more than 80%. The realization of stereoscopic degradation of exhaust gas and the improvement of photo-catalytic durability provide a technological support for the application of nano-TiO 2 in the permeable concrete pavement structure.
