Abstract:We prove that exterior powers of (skew-)symmetric bundles induce a $\lambda$-ring structure on the ring $GW^0(X) \oplus GW^2(X)$, when $X$ is a scheme where $2$ is invertible. Using this structure, we define stable Adams operations on Hermitian $K$-theory. As a byproduct of our methods, we also compute the ternary laws associated to Hermitian $K$-theory.

Abstract:When $R$ is one of the spectra $\mathit{ku}$, $\mathit{ko}$, $\mathit{tmf}$, $\mathit{MTSpin}^c$, $\mathit{MTSpin}$, or $\mathit{MTString}$, there is a standard approach to computing twisted $R$-homology groups of a space $X$ with the Adams spectral sequence, by using a change-of-rings isomorphism to simplify the $E_2$-page. This approach requires the assumption that the twist comes from a vector bundle, i.e. the twist map $X\to B\mathrm{GL}_1(R)$ factors through $B\mathrm{O}$. We show this assumption is unnecessary by working with Baker-Lazarev's Adams spectral sequence of $R$-modules and computing its $E_2$-page for a large class of twists of these spectra. We then work through two example computations motivated by anomaly cancellation for supergravity theories.

Abstract:This article discusses the twisted adjoint action $\mathrm{Ad}_{g}^{\kappa}:G\rightarrow G$, $x\mapsto gx\kappa(g^{-1})$ given by a Dynkin diagram automorphism $\kappa\in\mathrm{Aut}(G)$, where $G$ is compact, connected, simply connected and simple. The first aim is to recover the classification of $\kappa$-twisted conjugacy classes by elementary means, without invoking the non-connected group $G\rtimes\langle\kappa\rangle$. The second objective is to highlight several properties of the so-called \textit{twining characters} $\tilde{\chi}^{(\kappa)}:G\rightarrow\mathbb{C}$, as defined by Fuchs, Schellekens and Schweigert. These class functions generalize the usual characters, and define $\kappa$-twisted versions $\tilde{R}^{(\kappa)}(G)$ and $\tilde{R}_{k}^{(\kappa)}(G)$ ($k\in\mathbb{Z}_{>0}$) of the representation and fusion rings associated to $G$. In particular, the latter are shown to be isomorphic to the representation and fusion rings of the \textit{orbit Lie group} $G_{(\kappa)}$, a simply connected group obtained from $\kappa$ and the root data of $G$.

Abstract:We give a construction for twisted equivariant K-theory in the case of a proper action of a discrete group using twisted bundles. Our construction uses results of Lueck and Oliver to extend a construction of Adem and Ruan. We also show the existence of a Chern character to twisted Bredon cohomology. This gives a partial answer to the question of when you can construct twisted equivariant K-theory out of finite rank twisted bundles.

Abstract:We use equivariant methods to define and study the orbifold K-theory of an orbifold X. Adapting techniques from equivariant K-theory, we construct a Chern character and exhibit a multiplicative decomposition for K * orb (X)⊗ℚ, in particular showing that it is additively isomorphic to the orbifold cohomology of X. A number of examples are provided. We then use the theory of projective representations to define the notion of twisted orbifold K–theory in the presence of discrete torsion. An explicit expression for this is obtained in the case of a global quotient.

Abstract:We offer here a more direct approach to twisted K-theory, based on the notion of twisted vector bundles (of finite or infinite dimension) and of twisted principal bundles. This is closeely related to the classical notion ot torsors and bundles of modules over an algebra bundle. Twisted K-theory is simply defined as the Grothendieck group of twisted vector bundles (with a given twist). The usual operations on vector bundles (exterior powers, Adams operations) are easily extended to this twisted framework. Graded twisted K-theory, which is important for the definition and proof of the Thom isomorphism in this framework, is defined with the same formalism. We also define a twisted Chern character with target "twisted cohomology". Although there are many definitions of this character in the literature, our method is more elementary and is based on the classical definitions of the Chern-Weil theory, via connections and curvatures. In this way, we get explicit formulas very much in the spirit of Steenrod's coordinate bundles.

Abstract:We present a version of twisted equivariant $K$-theory-$K$-twisted equivariant $K$-theory, and use Grothendieck differentials to compute the $K$ -twisted equivariant $K$-theory of simple simply connected Lie groups. We did the calculation explicitly for SU(N) explicitly. The basic idea is to interpret an equivariant gerbe as an element of equivariant $K$-theory of degree 1.

Abstract:The Adams operators on a Hopf algebra $H$ are the convolution powers of the identity map of $H$. They are also called Hopf powers or Sweedler powers. It is a natural family of operators on $H$ that contains the antipode. We study the linear properties of the Adams operators when $H=\bigoplus_{m\in \mathbb{N}} H_m$ is connected graded. The main result is that for any of such $H$, there exist a PBW type homogeneous basis and a natural total order on it such that the restrictions $\Psi_n|_{H_m}$ of the Adams operators are simultaneously upper triangularizable with respect to this ordered basis. Moreover, the diagonal coefficients are determined in terms of $n$ and a combinatorial number assigned to the basis elements. As an immediate consequence, we obtain a complete description of the characteristic polynomial of $\Psi_n|_{H_m}$, both on eigenvalues and their multiplicities, when $H$ is locally finite and the base field is of characteristic zero. It recovers the main result of the paper [2] by Aguiar and Lauve, where the approach is different from ours.

Abstract:We investigate the K-theory of twisted higher-rank-graph algebras by adapting parts of Elliott's computation of the K-theory of the rotation algebras. We show that each 2-cocycle on a higher-rank graph taking values in an abelian group determines a continuous bundle of twisted higher-rank graph algebras over the dual group. We use this to show that for a circle-valued 2-cocycle on a higher-rank graph obtained by exponentiating a real-valued cocycle, the K-theory of the twisted higher-rank graph algebra coincides with that of the untwisted one.

Abstract:Let Γ be a generic subgroup of the multiplicative group C⁎ of nonzero complex numbers. We define a class of Lie algebras associated to Γ, called twisted Γ-Lie algebras, which are natural generalizations of the twisted affine Lie algebras. Starting from an arbitrary even sublattice Q of ZN and an arbitrary finite order isometry of ZN preserving Q, we construct a family of twisted Γ-vertex operators acting on generalized Fock spaces which afford irreducible representations for certain twisted Γ-Lie algebras. As an application, this recovers a number of known vertex operator realizations for infinite dimensional Lie algebras, such as twisted affine Lie algebras, extended affine Lie algebras of type A, trigonometric Lie algebras of series A and B, unitary Lie algebras, and BC-graded Lie algebras.

Abstract:With the classical assumptions on f, a convergence criterion of Newton's method (independent of affine connections) to find zeros of a mapping f from a Lie group to its Lie algebra is established, and estimates of the convergence domains of Newton's method are obtained, which improve the corresponding results in Owren & Welfert (2000, BIT Numer. Math., 40, 121-145) and Wang & Li (2006, J. Zhejiang Univ. Sci. A, 8, 978-986). Applications to optimization are provided and the results due to Mahony (1996, Linear Algebra Appl., 248, 67-89) are extended and improved accordingly.

Abstract:The standard theory of endoscopy for real groups has two parallel formulations. The original formulation of Langlands and Shelstad relies on methods in harmonic analysis. The subsequent formulation of Adams, Barbasch and Vogan relies on sheaf-theoretic methods. The original formulation was extended by Kottwitz and Shelstad to twisted endoscopy. We extend the sheaf-theoretic formulation to the context of twisted endoscopy and provide applications for computing Arthur packets.

In this paper we show how to deform the Fredholm family in the sense of quantum groups. The family of Dirac-type operators is parametrized by vectors in the adjoint module for a quantum affine algebra and transforms covariantly under a central extension of the algebra.

Abstract:The paper is devoted to the index theory of orbital and transverse elliptic operators on manifolds with a proper Lie group action. It corrects errors of my previous paper (published in JNCG in 2016) on transverse operators and contains new results. The two index theories, orbital and transverse, are very much intertwined and interdependent, and are treated together. The theory of orbital operators is developed from the basic definitions to the final index theorem. The KK-theoretic proofs of index theorems for elliptic, t-elliptic and orbital elliptic operators are given in sections 9, 10, 11. Throughout the paper, we use a simpler method in constructing pseudo-differential operators.
