Abstract:In the present work, we establish sufficient conditions for a Dirichlet series induced by general frequencies to be universal with respect to vertical translations. Our results can be applied to known universal objects such as Hurwitz zeta functions and also can provide new examples of universal Dirichlet series including the alternating prime zeta function $\sum_{n\geq1}(-1)^np_n^{-s}$.

Abstract:In this paper, we characterize meromorphic solutions $f(z_1,z_2),g(z_1,z_2)$ to the generalized Fermat Diophantine functional equations $h(z_1,z_2)f^m+k(z_1,z_2)g^n=1$ in $\mathbf{C}^2$ for integers $m,n\geq2$ and nonzero meromorphic functions $h(z_1,z_2),k(z_1,z_2)$ in $\mathbf{C}^2$. Meromorphic solutions to associated partial differential equations are also studied.

Abstract:Numerous novel integral and series representations for Ferrers functions of the first kind (associated Legendre functions on the cut) of arbitrary degree and order, various integral, series and differential relations connecting Ferrers functions of different orders and degrees as well as a uniform asymptotic expansion are derived in this article. Simple proofs of four generating functions for Ferrers functions are given. Addition theorems for P are proved by basing on generation functions for three families of hypergeometric polynomials. Relations for Gegenbauer polynomials and Ferrers associated Legendre functions (associated Legendre polynomials) are obtained as special cases.

Abstract:By employing contour integration the derivation of a generalized double finite series involving the Hurwitz-Lerch zeta function is used to derive closed form formulae in terms of special functions. We use this procedure to find special cases of the summation and product formulae in terms of the Hurwitz-Lerch zeta function, trigonometric functions and the gamma function.

Abstract: Dirichlet's $L$-functions are natural extensions of the Riemann zeta function. In this paper we first give a brief survey of Ap\'ery-like series for some special values of the zeta function and certain $L$-functions. Then, we establish two theorems on transformations of certain kinds of congruences. Motivated by the results and based on our computation, we pose 48 new conjectural series (most of which involve harmonic numbers) for such special values and related constants. For example, we conjecture that \begin{align*}\sum_{k=1}^\infty\frac1{k^4\binom{2k}k}\bigg(\frac1k+\sum_{j=k}^{2k}\frac1j\bigg)=&\frac{11}9\zeta(5), \\\sum_{k=1}^\infty\frac{(-1)^{k-1}}{k^3\binom{2k}k}\bigg(\frac1{5k^3}+\sum_{j=1}^{k}\frac1{j^3}\bigg)=&\frac{2}5\zeta(3)^2, \end{align*} and $$\sum_{k=1}^\infty\frac{48^k}{k(2k-1)\binom{4k}{2k}\binom{2k}k}=\frac{15}2\sum_{k=1}^\infty\frac{(\frac k3)}{k^2},$$ where $(\frac k3)$ denotes the Legendre symbol.
A geometric approach to functional equations for general multiple Dirichlet series over function fields

Abstract:Sawin recently gave an axiomatic characterization of multiple Dirichlet series over the function field $\mathbb{F}_{q}(T)$ and proved their existence by exhibiting the coefficients as trace functions of specific perverse sheaves. However, he did not prove that these series actually converge anywhere, instead treating them as formal power series. In this paper, we prove that these series do converge in a certain region, and moreover that the functions obtained by analytically continuing them satisfy functional equations. For convergence, it suffices to obtain bounds on the coefficients, for which we use the decomposition theorem for perverse sheaves, in combination with the Kontsevich moduli space of stable maps to construct a suitable compactification. For the functional equations, the key identity is a multi-variable generalization of the relationship between a Dirichlet character and its Fourier transform; in the multiple Dirichlet series setting, this uses a density trick for simple perverse sheaves and an explicit formula for intermediate extensions from the complement of a normal crossings divisor.

Generalized hypergeometric functions with several variables

Abstract:We introduce a hypergoemetirc series with two complex variables, which generalizes Appell's, Lauricella's and Kempé de Fériet's hypergeometric series, and study the system of differential equations that it satisfies. We determine the singularities, the rank and the condition for the reducibility of the system. We give complete local solutions of the system at many singular points of the system and solve the connection problem among these local solutions. Under some assumptions, the system is written as a KZ equation. We determine its spectral type in the direction of coordinates as well as simultaneous eigenspace decompositions of residue matrices. The system may or may not be rigid in the sense of N.~Katz viewed as an ordinary differential equation in some direction. We also show that the system is a special case of Gel'fand-Kapranov-Zelevinsky system. From this point of view, we discuss multivariate generalizations.

On Darmon's program for the Generalized Fermat equation, II

Abstract:We obtain additional Diophantine applications of the methods surrounding Darmon's program for the generalized Fermat equation developed in the first part of this series of papers. As a first application, we use a multi-Frey approach combining two Frey elliptic curves over totally real fields, a Frey hyperelliptic curve over $\mathbb{Q}$ due to Kraus, and ideas from the Darmon program to give a complete resolution of the generalized Fermat equation $$x^7 + y^7 = 3 z^n$$ for all integers $n \ge 2$. Moreover, we explain how the use of higher dimensional Frey abelian varieties allows a more efficient proof of this result due to additional structures that they afford, compared to using only Frey elliptic curves. As a second application, we use some of these additional structures that Frey abelian varieties possess to show that a full resolution of the generalized Fermat equation $x^7 + y^7 = z^n$ depends only on the Cartan case of Darmon's big image conjecture. In the process, we solve the previous equation for solutions $(a,b,c)$ such that $a$ and $b$ satisfy certain $2$ or $7$-adic conditions and all $n \ge 2$.

Abstract:This article deals with three types of mutually inverse series relating Ferrers and associated Legendre functions of arbitrary complex indexes and orders established on the base of integral representations by using a number of generating functions (some of them are novel) for polynomials expressed in terms of hypergeometric or generalized hypergeometric polynomials. High-order asymptotics of above-mentioned polynomials are indicated. In particular, as n → ∞ , a uniform asymptotics for Gegenbauer polynomials C n λ − n ( x ) , λ ∈ C , is obtained. In special cases, the inverse series turn into novel mutually inverse finite sums relating Gegenbauer or associated Legendre polynomials of different arguments as well as into novel connection formulas for Gegenbauer and associated Legendre polynomials.

Abstract:In this paper, we extend Fueter's theorem in hypercomplex function theory to encompass a class of pseudoanalytic functions associated with the main Vekua equation. This class includes Duffin's -regular functions as special cases, which correspond to the Yukawa equation. As the parameter , we recover the classical Fueter's theorem.

Abstract:The goal of this article is to study some basic algebraic and combinatorial properties of "generalized $n$-series" over a commutative ring $R$, which are functions $s: \mathbf{Z}_{\geq 0} \to R$ satisfying a mild condition. A special example of generalized $n$-series is given by the $q$-integers $\frac{q^n-1}{q-1} \in \mathbf{Z}[\![q-1]\!]$. Given a generalized $n$-series $s$, one can define $s$-analogues of factorials (via $n!_s = \prod_{i=1}^n s(n)$) and binomial coefficients. We prove that Pascal's identity, the binomial identity, Lucas' theorem, and the Vandermonde identity admit $s$-analogues; each of these specialize to their appropriate $q$-analogue in the case of the $q$-integer generalized $n$-series. We also study the growth rates of generalized $n$-series defined over the integers. Finally, we define an $s$-analogue of the ($q$-)derivative, and prove $s$-analogues of the Poincaré lemma and the Cartier isomorphism for the affine line, as well as a pullback square due to Bhatt-Lurie.

Abstract:Let $\mathbb{F}_q$ be a finite field with $q$ elements. For $a,b,c,d,e,f \in \mathbb{F}_q^{\times}$, denote by $C_{a,b,c,d,e,f}$ the family of algebraic curves over $\mathbb{F}_q$ given by the affine equation \begin{align*} C_{a,b,c,d,e,f}:ay^2+bx^2+cxy=d+ex^2y^2+fx^3y. \end{align*} The family of generalized twisted Edwards curves is a subfamily of $C_{a,b,c,d,e,f}$. Let $\#C_{a,b,c,d,e,f}(\mathbb{F}_q)$ denote the number of points on $C_{a,b,c,d,e,f}$ over $\mathbb{F}_q$. In this article, we find certain expressions for $\#C_{a,b,c,d,e,f}(\mathbb{F}_q)$ when $af=ce$. If $c^2-4ab\neq 0$, we express $\#C_{a,b,c,d,e,f}(\mathbb{F}_q)$ in terms of a $p$-adic hypergeometric function $\mathbb{G}(x)$ whose values are explicitly known for all $x\in \mathbb{F}_q$. Next, if $c^2-4ab=0$, we express $\#C_{a,b,c,d,e,f}(\mathbb{F}_q)$ in terms of another $p$-adic hypergeometric function and then relate it to the traces of Frobenius endomorphisms of a family of elliptic curves. Furthermore, using the known values of the hypergeometric functions, we deduce some nice formulas for $\#C_{a,b,c,d,e,f}(\mathbb{F}_q)$.

Abstract:B.C. Berndt evaluated special values of the cotangent Dirichlet series. T. Arakawa studied a generalization of the series, or generalized cotangent Dirichlet series, and gave its transformation formulae. In this paper, we establish an elliptic analogue of the generalized cotangent Dirichlet series and give its transformation formulae at some integer arguments. As a corollary, we obtain the transformation formulae of the generalized cotangent Dirichlet series at some integer arguments which are the part of Arakawa's transformation formulae. Those transformation formulae give the special values of the cotangent Dirichlet series evaluated by B.C. Berndt.
