Abstract:In the present work, we establish sufficient conditions for a Dirichlet series induced by general frequencies to be universal with respect to vertical translations. Our results can be applied to known universal objects such as Hurwitz zeta functions and also can provide new examples of universal Dirichlet series including the alternating prime zeta function $\sum_{n\geq1}(-1)^np_n^{-s}$.

Abstract:We consider random Dirichlet series , with complex numbers, , increasing to , and otherwise arbitrary; and with a Rademacher sequence of random variables. We study their almost sure convergence on the critical line of convergence When (periodic case), a well-known sufficient condition on the coefficients a n ensuring almost sure uniform convergence on (equivalently uniform convergence on ) has been given by Salem and Zygmund, who made strong use of Bernstein's inequality. When is arbitrary (non-periodic case), one must distinguish between uniform convergence on compact subsets of (local convergence) and uniform convergence on . We extend Salem–Zygmund's theorem to general random Dirichlet series in this non-periodic case. Our main tools are a simple "local" Bernstein's inequality, and P. Lévy's symmetry principle.

Abstract:This article consists to give a necessary and sufficient condition of the meromorphic continuity of Dirichlet series defined as $\sum_{x\in \mathbf{N}^n} \frac{a_{x}}{P(x)^s}$, Where $a_{x}$ is a $q$-automatic sequence of $n$ parameters and $P: \mathbf{C}^n \to \mathbf{C}$ a polynomial, such that $P$ does not have zeros on $\mathbf{Q}^{n}_{+}$. And some specific cases of $n=1$ will also be studied in this article as examples to show the possibility to have an holomorphic continuity on the whole complex plane. Some equivalences between infinite products are also built as consequences of these results.

Abstract:It is well known that the Riemann zeta function, as well as several other L-functions, is universal in the strip $1/2<\sigma <1$; this is certainly not true for $\sigma >1$. Answering a question of Bombieri and Ghosh, we give a simple characterization of the analytic functions approximable by translates of L-functions in the half-plane of absolute convergence. Actually, this is a special case of a general rigidity theorem for translates of Dirichlet series in the half-plane of uniform convergence. Our results are closely related to Bohr's equivalence theorem.

Abstract:$L$ functions based on Dirichlet characters are natural generalizations of the Riemann $\zeta(s)$ function: they both have series representations and satisfy an Euler product representation, i.e. an infinite product taken over prime numbers. In this paper we address the Generalized Riemann Hypothesis relative to the non-trivial complex zeros of the Dirichlet $L$ functions by studying the possibility to enlarge the original domain of convergence of their Euler product. The feasibility of this analytic continuation is ruled by the asymptotic behavior in $N$ of the series $B_N = \sum_{n=1}^N \cos \bigl( t \log p_n - \arg \chi (p_n) \bigr)$ involving Dirichlet characters $\chi$ modulo $q$ on primes $p_n$. Although deterministic, these series have pronounced stochastic features which make them analogous to random time series. We show that the $B_N$'s satisfy various normal law probability distributions. The study of their large asymptotic behavior poses an interesting problem of statistical physics equivalent to the Single Brownian Trajectory Problem, here addressed by defining an appropriate ensemble $\mathcal{E}$ involving intervals of primes. For non-principal characters, we show that the series $B_N$ present a universal diffusive random walk behavior $B_N = O(\sqrt{N})$ in view of the Dirichlet theorem on the equidistribution of reduced residue classes modulo $q$ and the Lemke Oliver-Soundararajan conjecture on the distribution of pairs of residues on consecutive primes. This purely diffusive behavior of $B_N$ implies that the domain of convergence of the infinite product representation of the Dirichlet $L$-functions for non-principal characters can be extended from $\Re(s) > 1$ down to $\Re (s) = \frac{1}{2}$, without encountering any zeros before reaching this critical line.

Abstract:Using the Dirichlet theorem on the equidistribution of residue classes modulo $q$ and the Lemke Oliver-Soundararajan conjecture on the distribution of pairs of residues on consecutive primes, we show that the domain of convergence of the infinite product of Dirichlet $L$-functions of non-principal characters can be extended from $\Re(s) > 1$ down to $\Re(s) > \half$, without encountering any zeros before reaching this critical line. The possibility of doing so can be traced back to a universal diffusive random walk behavior $C_N = {\cal O}(N^{1/2})$ of the series $C_N = \sum_{n=1}^N \chi (p_n)$ over the primes $p_n$ where $\chi$ is a Dirichlet character, which underlies the convergence of the infinite product of the Dirichlet functions. The series $C_N$ presents several aspects in common with stochastic time series and its control requires to address a problem similar to the Single Brownian Trajectory Problem in statistical mechanics. In the case of the Dirichlet functions of non principal characters, we show that this problem can be solved in terms of a self-averaging procedure based on an ensemble $\CE$ of block variables computed on extended intervals of primes. Those intervals, called {\em inertial intervals}, ensure the ergodicity and stationarity of the time series underlying the quantity $C_N$. The infinity of primes also ensures the absence of rare events which would have been responsible for a different scaling behavior than the universal law $C_N = {\cal O}(N^{1/2})$ of the random walks.

A Novel Generalization of the Liouville Function $λ(n)$ and a Convergence Result for the Associated Dirichlet Series

Abstract:We introduce a novel arithmetic function $w(n)$, a generalization of the Liouville function $\lambda(n)$, as the coefficients of a Dirichlet series, and as a special case of a parametrized family of functions $w_m(n)$. We prove some useful special properties of these arithmetic functions and then focus on convergence of their Dirichlet series. In particular, we show that each function $w_m(n)$ injectively maps $\mathbb{N}$ into a dense subset of the unit circle in $\mathbb{C}$ and that $F_m(s) = \sum_n \frac{w_m(n)}{n^s}$ converges for all $s$ with $\Re(s)\in\left(\frac{1}{2},1\right)$. Finally, we show that the family of functions $w_m(n)$ converges to $\lambda(n)$ and that $F_m(s)$ converges uniformly in $m$ to $\sum_n \frac{\lambda(n)}{n^s}$, implying convergence of that series in the same region and thereby proving a particularly interesting property about a closely related function.

Abstract:Let $\mathscr O_u$ be the algebra of holomorphic functions on ${\bf C}_+:=\{s\in{\bf C}:\text{Re }s>0\}$ that are limits of Dirichlet series $D=\sum_{n=1}^\infty a_n n^{-s}$, $s\in \bf{C}_+$, that converge uniformly on proper half-planes of $\bf{C}_+$. We study algebraic-topological properties of subalgebras of $\mathscr O_u$: the Banach algebras $\mathscr W, \mathscr A, \mathscr H^\infty$ and the Frechet algebra $\mathscr O_b$. Here $\mathscr W$ consists of functions in $\mathscr O_u$ of absolutely convergent Dirichlet series on the closure of $\bf{C}_+$, $\mathscr A$ is the uniform closure of $\mathscr W$, $\mathscr H^\infty$ is the algebra of all bounded functions in $\mathscr O_u$, and $\mathscr O_b$ is set of all $f(s)=\sum_{n=1}^\infty a_n n^{-s}$ in $\mathscr O_u$ so that $f_r\in \mathscr H^\infty$, $r\in (0,1)$, where $f_r(s):=\sum_{n=1}^\infty a_n r^{\Omega(n)} n^{-s}$ and $\Omega(n)$ is the number of prime factors of $n$. Let $S_\bf{N}$ be the group of permutations of $\bf{N}$. Each $\sigma\in S_\bf{N}$ determines a permutation $\hat\sigma\in S_\bf{N}$ (i.e., such that $\hat\sigma(mn)=\hat\sigma(n)\hat\sigma(m)$ for all $m,n\in \bf{N}$) via the fundamental theorem of arithmetic. For a Dirichlet series $D=\sum_{n=1}^\infty a_n n^{-s}$, and $\sigma \in S_\bf{N}$, $S_\sigma(D)=\sum_{n=1}^\infty a_{\hat{\sigma}^{-1}(n)} n^{-s}$ determines an action of $S_\bf{N}$ on the set of all Dirichlet series. It is shown that each of the algebras above is invariant with respect to this action. Given a subgroup $G$ of $S_\bf{N}$, the set of $G$-invariant subalgebras of these algebras are studied, and their maximal ideal spaces are described, and used to characterise groups of units and of invertible elements having logarithms, find the stable rank, show projective freeness, and describe when the special linear group is generated by elementary matrices, with bounds on the number of factors.

Littlewood-type theorems for random Dirichlet series

Abstract:In this paper, we completely give the solution of the problem of Littlewood-type randomization in the Hardy and Bergman spaces of Dirichlet series. The Littlewood-type theorem for Bergman spaces of Dirichlet series is very different from the corresponding version for Hardy spaces of Dirichlet series; but also exhibits various pathological phenomena compared with the setting of analytic Bergman spaces over the unit disk, due to the fact that Dirichlet series behave as power series of infinitely many variables. A description for the inclusion between some mixed norm spaces of Dirichlet series plays an essential role in our investigation. Finally, as another application of the inclusion, we completely characterize the superposition operators between Bergman spaces of Dirichlet series.

On the regularized products of some Dirichlet series

Abstract:In this paper, we show that the regularized determinants of some Dirichlet series are multiplicative. As an application, we give generalizations of Lerch's formula for the classical gamma function and we determine the sum of some Dirichlet series generalizing Euler's formula on the sum of the reciprocal of squares. We recover the results of Kurokawa and Wakayama, and give a new proof for some Euler's formulas.

Abstract:We study the Hardy space of translated Dirichlet series $\mathcal{H}_{+}$. It consists on those Dirichlet series $\sum a_n n^{-s}$ such that for some (equivalently, every) $1 \leq p < \infty$, the translation $\sum{a_{n}}n^{-(s+\frac{1}{\sigma})}$ belongs to the Hardy space $\mathcal{H}^{p}$ for every $\sigma>0$. We prove that this set, endowed with the topology induced by the seminorms $\left\{\Vert\cdot\Vert_{2,k}\right\}_{k\in\mathbb{N}}$ (where $\Vert\sum{a_{n}n^{-s}}\Vert_{2,k}$ is defined as $\big\Vert\sum{a_n n^{-(s+\frac{1}{k})}} \big\Vert_{\mathcal{H}^{2}}$), is a Fréchet space which is Schwartz and non nuclear. Moreover, the Dirichlet monomials $\{n^{-s}\}_{n \in \mathbb N}$ are an unconditional Schauder basis of $\mathcal H_+$. In the spirit of Gordon and Hedenmalm's work, we completely characterize the composition operator on the Hardy space of translated Dirichlet series. Moreover, we study the superposition operators on $\mathcal{H}_{+}$ and show that every polynomial defines an operator of this kind. We present certain sufficient conditions on the coefficients of an entire function to define a superposition operator. Relying on number theory techniques we exhibit some examples which do not provide superposition operators. We finally look at the action of the differentiation and integration operators on these spaces.

Abstract:Generalised Eisenstein series are non-holomorphic modular invariant functions of a complex variable, $\tau$, subject to a particular inhomogeneous Laplace eigenvalue equation on the hyperbolic upper-half $\tau$-plane. Two infinite classes of such functions arise quite naturally within different string theory contexts. A first class can be found by studying the coefficients of the effective action for the low-energy expansion of type IIB superstring theory, and relatedly in the analysis of certain integrated four-point functions of stress tensor multiplet operators in $\mathcal{N} = 4$ supersymmetric Yang-Mills theory. A second class of such objects is known to contain all two-loop modular graph functions, which are fundamental building blocks in the low-energy expansion of closed-string scattering amplitudes at genus one. In this work, we present a Poincaré series approach that unifies both classes of generalised Eisenstein series and manifests certain algebraic and differential relations amongst them. We then combine this technique with spectral methods for automorphic forms to find general and non-perturbative expansions at the cusp $\tau \to i \infty$. Finally, we find intriguing connections between the asymptotic expansion of these modular functions as $\tau \to 0$ and the non-trivial zeros of the Riemann zeta function.

Discrete universality, continuous universality and hybrid universality are equivalent

Abstract:Recently Sourmelidis proved that the discrete universality theorem is equivalent to the continuous universality theorem for zeta-functions. He treats both the zero-free universality theorem and the strong universality theorem. Unfortunately in the zero-free case his result is conditional on a Riemann hypothesis, and in the strong universality case he only proves the implication in one direction. We prove this equivalence unconditionally, and also prove an equivalence with hybrid universality. While the main application of our result is on Dirichlet series and zeta-functions, our proof is general and does not use the fact that the functions in question can be represented by Dirichlet series.

Abstract:In this paper, we derive "universal" inequalities for the sums of eigenvalues of the Hodge de Rham Laplacian on Euclidean closed Submanifolds and of eigenvalues of the Kohn Laplacian on the Heisenberg group. These inequalities generalize the Levitin-Parnovski inequality obtained for the sums of eigenvalues of the Dirichlet Laplacian of a bounded Euclidean domain. New Reilly and Asada inequalities are also obtained.

Abstract:Buraczewski et al (2023) proved a functional limit theorem (FLT) and a law of the iterated logarithm (LIL) for a random Dirichlet series $\sum_{k\geq 2}(\log k)^\alpha k^{-1/2-s}\eta_k$ as $s\to 0+$, where $\alpha>-1/2$ and $\eta_1$, $\eta_2,\ldots$ are independent identically distributed random variables with zero mean and finite variance. We prove a FLT and a LIL in a boundary case $\alpha=-1/2$. The boundary case is more demanding technically than the case $\alpha>-1/2$.

Abstract:In this paper we obtain a mean value theorem for a general Dirichlet series $f(s)= \sum_{j=1}^\infty a_j n_j^{-s}$ with positive coefficients for which the counting function $A(x) = \sum_{n_{j}\le x}a_{j}$ satisfies $A(x)=\rho x + O(x^\beta)$ for some $\rho>0$ and $\beta<1$. We prove that $\frac1T\int_0^T |f(\sigma+it)|^2\, dt \to \sum_{j=1}^\infty a_j^2n_j^{-2\sigma}$ for $\sigma>\frac{1+\beta}{2}$ and obtain an upper bound for this moment for $\beta<\sigma\le \frac{1+\beta}{2}$. We provide a number of examples indicating the sharpness of our results.

Abstract:The goal of this article is to study some basic algebraic and combinatorial properties of "generalized $n$-series" over a commutative ring $R$, which are functions $s: \mathbf{Z}_{\geq 0} \to R$ satisfying a mild condition. A special example of generalized $n$-series is given by the $q$-integers $\frac{q^n-1}{q-1} \in \mathbf{Z}[\![q-1]\!]$. Given a generalized $n$-series $s$, one can define $s$-analogues of factorials (via $n!_s = \prod_{i=1}^n s(n)$) and binomial coefficients. We prove that Pascal's identity, the binomial identity, Lucas' theorem, and the Vandermonde identity admit $s$-analogues; each of these specialize to their appropriate $q$-analogue in the case of the $q$-integer generalized $n$-series. We also study the growth rates of generalized $n$-series defined over the integers. Finally, we define an $s$-analogue of the ($q$-)derivative, and prove $s$-analogues of the Poincaré lemma and the Cartier isomorphism for the affine line, as well as a pullback square due to Bhatt-Lurie.
