Abstract:We express recent double-sums studied by Wang, Yee, and Liu in terms of two types of Hecke-type double-sum building blocks. When possible we determine the (mock) modularity. We also express a recent $q$-hypergeometric function of Andrews as a mixed mock modular form.

Abstract:We express a family of Hecke--Appell-type sums of Hikami and Lovejoy in terms of mixed mock modular forms; in particular, we express the sums in terms of Appell functions and theta functions. Hikami and Lovejoy's family of Hecke--Appell-type sums was obtained by considering certain duals of generalized quantum modular forms.

Abstract:In terms of several summation and transformation formulas for basic hypergeometric series, two forms of the Chinese remainder theorem for coprime polynomials, the creative microscoping method introduced by Guo and Zudilin, Guo and Li's lemma, and El Bachraoui's lemma, we establish some $q$-supercongruences for multiple basic hypergeometric series modulo the fifth and sixth powers of a cyclotomic polynomial. In detail, we generalize Guo and Li's two $q$-supercongruences for double basic hypergeometric series, which are related to $q$-analogues of Van Hamme's (C.2) supercongruence and Long's supercongruence, respectively. In addition, we also present two conclusions for double and triple hypergeometric series associated with Van Hamme's (D.2) supercongruence.

Abstract:We present outlines of a general method to reach certain kinds of $q$-multiple sum identities. Throughout our exposition, we shall give generalizations to the results given by Dilcher, Prodinger, Fu and Lascoux, Zeng, and Guo and Zhang concerning $q$-series identities related to divisor functions. Our exposition shall also provide a generalization of the duality relation for finite multiple harmonic $q$-series given by Bradley.

Abstract:We give some new $q$-supercongruences on truncated forms of squares of basic hypergeometric series. Most of them are modulo the cube of a cyclotomic polynomial, and two of them are modulo the fourth power of a cyclotomic polynomial. The main ingredients of our proofs are the creative microscoping method, a lemma of El Bachraoui, and the Chinese remainder theorem for coprime polynomials. We also propose several related conjectures for further study.

Abstract:With the help of El Bachraoui's lemma, the creative microscoping method, and a new form of the Chinese remainder theorem for coprime polynomials, we prove a $q$-supercongruence for double series and a $q$-supercongruence for triple series modulo the sixth power of a cyclotomic polynomial. As conclusions, two corresponding supercongruences for double and triple series, which are associated with the (D.2) supercongruence of Van Hamme, are given.

Abstract:Andrews, Dyson and Hickerson proved many interesting properties of coefficients for a Ramanujan's $q$-hypergeometric series by relating it to real quadratic field $\Q(\sqrt{6})$ and using the arithmetic of $\Q(\sqrt{6})$, hence solved a conjecture of Andrews on the distributions of its Fourier coefficients. Motivated by Andrews's conjecture, we discuss an interesting $q$-hypergeometric series which comes from a Lerch sum and rank and crank moments for partitions and overpartitions. We give Andrews-like conjectures for its coefficients. We obtain partial results on the distributions of small values of its coefficients toward these conjectures.

Abstract:In this paper, we construct the so-called q-Schur modules as left principal ideals of cyclotomic q-Schur algebras, and prove that they are isomorphic to those cell modules defined in [3] and [9] in any level r.After that, mainly, we prove that these q-Schur modules are free and construct their bases.This result gives new versions of some known results such as standard basis and the branching theorem.With the help of this realization and the new basis, we give a new proof of the Branch rule of Weyl modules which was first discovered by Wada in [13].

Abstract:Since the study by Jacobi and Hecke, Hecke-type series have received a lot of attention. Unlike such series associated with indefinite quadratic forms, identities on Hecke-type series associated with definite quadratic forms are quite rare in the literature. Motivated by the works of Liu, we first establish many parameterized identities with two parameters by employing different $q$-transformation formulas and then deduce various Hecke-type identities associated with definite quadratic forms by specializing the choice of these two parameters. As applications, we utilize some of these Hecke-type identities to establish families of inequalities for several partition functions. Our proofs heavily rely on some formulas from the work of Zhi-Guo Liu.

The Explicit Hypergeometric-Modularity Method II

Abstract:In the first paper of this sequence, we provided an explicit hypergeometric modularity method by combining different techniques from the classical, $p$-adic, and finite field settings. In this article, we explore an application of this method from a motivic viewpoint through some known hypergeometric well-poised formulae of Whipple and McCarthy. We first use the method to derive a class of special weight three modular forms, labeled as $\mathbb{K}_2$-functions. Then using well-poised hypergeometric formulae we further construct a class of degree four Galois representations of the absolute Galois groups of the corresponding cyclotomic fields. These representations are then shown to be extendable to $G_{\mathbb{Q}}$ and the $L$-function of each extension coincides with the $L$-function of an automorphic form.

Abstract:Maesaka, Seki, and Watanabe recently discovered an equality called the MSW formula. This paper provides a $q$-analogue of the MSW formula. It discusses the new proof of the duality relation for finite multiple harmonic $q$-series at primitive roots of unity via $q$-analogue of the MSW formula. This paper also gives a $q$-analogue of Yamamoto's generalization of the MSW formula for Schur type.

On a Transformation of Triple $q$-Series and Rogers-Hecke Type Series

Abstract:Using the method of the $q$-exponential differential operator, we give an extension of the Sears $_4\phi_3$ transformation formula. Based on this extended formula and a $q$-series expansion formula for an analytic function around the origin, we present a transformation formula for triple $q$-series, which includes several interesting special cases, especially a double $q$-series summation formula. Some applications of this transformation formula to Rogers-Hecke type series are discussed. More than 100 Rogers-Hecke type identities including Andrews' identities for the sums of three squares and the sums of three triangular numbers are obtained.

Abstract:$q$-Supercongruences modulo the fifth and sixth powers of a cyclotomic polynomial are very rare in the literature. In this paper, we establish some $q$-supercongruences modulo the fifth and sixth powers of a cyclotomic polynomial in terms of Jackson's $_8\phi_7$ summation, Watson's $_8\phi_7$ transformation, the creative microscoping method recently introduced by Guo and Zudilin, and the Chinese remainder theorem for coprime polynomials. More concretely, we give a $q$-analogue of a nice formula due to Long and Ramakrishna [Adv. Math. 290 (2016), 773--808] and two $q$-supercongruences involving double series.

Abstract:We work out the exact relationship between algebraic modular forms for a two-by-two general unitary group over a definite quaternion algebra, and those arising from genera of positive-definite quinary lattices, relating stabilisers of local lattices with specific open compact subgroups, paramodular at split places, and with Atkin-Lehner operators. Combining this with the recent work of Rösner and Weissauer, proving conjectures of Ibukiyama on Jacquet-Langlands type correspondences (mildly generalised here), provides an effective tool for computing Hecke eigenvalues for Siegel modular forms of degree two and paramodular level. It also enables us to prove examples of congruences of Hecke eigenvalues connecting Siegel modular forms of degrees two and one. These include some of a type conjectured by Harder at level one, supported by computations of Fretwell at higher levels, and a subtly different congruence discovered experimentally by Buzzard and Golyshev.

Strong $q$-analogues for values of the Dirichlet beta function

Abstract:An infinite class of relations between modular forms is constructed that generalizes evaluations of the Dirichlet beta function at odd positive integers. The work is motivated by a base case appearing in Ramanujan's Notebooks and a parallel construction for the Riemann zeta function. The identities are shown to be strong $q$-analogues by virtue of their reduction to the classical beta evaluations as $q\to 1^{-}$ and explicit evaluations at CM points for $|q|<1$. Inequalities of Deligne determine asymptotic formulas for the Fourier coefficients of the associated modular forms.

A $q$-Chaundy representation for the product of two nonterminating basic hypergeometric series and symmetric and dual relations

Abstract:We derive double product representations of nonterminating basic hypergeometric series using diagonalization, a method introduced by Theo William Chaundy in 1943. We also present some generating functions that arise from it in the $q$ and $q$-inverse Askey schemes. Using this $q$-Chaundy theorem which expresses a product of two nonterminating basic hypergeometric series as a sum over a terminating basic hypergeometric series, we study generating functions for the symmetric families of orthogonal polynomials in the $q$ and $q$-inverse Askey scheme. By applying the $q$-Chaundy theorem to $q$-exponential generating functions due to Ismail, we are able to derive alternative expansions of these generating functions and from these, new terminating basic hypergeometric representations for the continuous $q$-Hermite and $q$-inverse Hermite polynomials are derived. These representations are connected by new quadratic transformations for the terminating basic hypergeometric series involved We also exploit duality relations for continuous dual $q$-Hahn and continuous dual $q$-inverse Hahn with big $q$-Jacobi polynomials and as well duality relations for Al-Salam--Chihara and $q$-inverse Al-Salam--Chihara polynomials with little $q$-Jacobi polynomials to derive new generating relations for the big and little $q$-Jacobi polynomials.

The Explicit Hypergeometric-Modularity Method I

Abstract:The theories of hypergeometric functions and modular forms are highly intertwined. For example, particular values of truncated hypergeometric functions and hypergeometric character sums are often congruent or equal to Fourier coefficients of modular forms. In this series of papers, we develop and explore an explicit "Hypergeometric-Modularity" method for associating a modular form to a given hypergeometric datum. In particular, for certain length three and four hypergeometric data we give an explicit method for finding a modular form $f$ such that the corresponding hypergeometric Galois representation has a subrepresentation isomorphic to the Deligne representation of $f$. Our method utilizes Ramanujan's theory of elliptic functions to alternative bases, commutative formal group laws, and supercongruences. As a byproduct, we give a collection of eta quotients with multiplicative coefficients constructed from hypergeometric functions. In the second paper, we discuss a number of applications, including explicit connections between hypergeometric values and periods of these explicit eta quotients as well as evaluation formulae for certain special $L$-values.
