Abstract:We study isogeny relations between K3 surfaces and Kummer surfaces. Specifically, we prove a Torelli-type theorem for the existence of rational maps from K3 surfaces to Kummer surfaces, and a Kummer sandwich theorem for K3 surfaces with Shioda-Inose structure.

Abstract:We exhibit families of Ricci-flat Kahler metrics on K3 surfaces which collapse to an interval, with Tian-Yau and Taub-NUT metrics occurring as bubbles. There is a corresponding continuous surjective map from the K3 surface to the interval, with regular fibers diffeomorphic to either 3-tori or Heisenberg nilmanifolds.

Abstract:Elliptic fibrations of $K3$ surfaces belonging to the Apéry-Fermi pencil ($Y_k$) may have $2$ or $3$-torsion sections defining on $(Y_k)$ automorphisms $\tau$ of order $2$ or $3$. First we consider $Y_{k}/\tau$ \ for some fibrations of the singular $K3$ surface $Y_{10}$ in the case of two-torsion sections and obtain as for the singular surface $Y_{2}$ either the Kummer surface associated to $Y_{10}$ or $Y_{10}$ itself. This last case is associated with the complex multiplication on $Y_{10}$. We prove also that for all the fibrations of $Y_{2}$ with $3$-torsion sections $Y_{2}/\tau=Y_{10}.$ Results are different for $Y_{10}$ where we can obtain for $Y_{10}/\tau$ one of the two surfaces with transcendental lattice $[4 \quad 0\quad 18]$ or $\left[2 \quad 0 \quad 36\right]$. We also explicitly link $3$-isogeny on a fibration and base change on other fibrations.

Abstract:We give a vanishing and classification result for holomorphic differential forms on smooth projective models of the moduli spaces of pointed K3 surfaces. We prove that there is no nonzero holomorphic k-form for $0<k 19 10\leq k \leq 18 k\geq 19$ ) for the modular group. These results are in fact proved in the generality of lattice-polarisation.</k

A gluing construction of K3 surfaces

Abstract:We develop a new method for constructing K3 surfaces. We construct such a K3 surface $X$ by patching two open complex surfaces obtained as the complements of tubular neighborhoods of elliptic curves embedded in blow-ups of the projective planes at general nine points. Our construction has $19$ complex dimensional degrees of freedom. For general parameters, the K3 surface $X$ is neither Kummer nor projective. By the argument based on the concrete computation of the period map, we also investigate which points in the period domain correspond to K3 surfaces obtained by such construction.

Abstract:Let $X\subset ¶^5$ be a smooth cubic fourfold. A well known conjecture asserts that $X$ is rational if and only if there an Hodge theoretically associated K3 surface $S$. The surface $S$ can be associated to $X$ in two other different ways. If there is an equivalence of categories $\sA_X \simeq D^b(S,\alpha)$ where $\sA_X$ is the Kuznetsov component of $D^b(X)$ and $\alpha$ is a Brauer class, or if there is an isomorphism between the transcendental motive $t(X)$ and the (twisted ) transcendental motive of a K3 surface$S$. In this note we consider families of cubic fourfolds with a finite group of automorphisms and describe the cases where there is an associated K3 surface in one of the above senses.

We also discuss mirror symmetry for the double cover K3 surfaces and their higher dimensional generalizations. A follow up paper will describe more details of the latter.

Abstract:We study the virtual geometry of the moduli spaces of curves and sheaves on K3 surfaces in primitive classes. Equivalences relating the reduced Gromov-Witten invariants of K3 surfaces to characteristic numbers of stable pairs moduli spaces are proven. As a consequence, we prove the Katz-Klemm-Vafa conjecture evaluating $\lambda_g$ integrals (in all genera) in terms of explicit modular forms. Indeed, all K3 invariants in primitive classes are shown to be governed by modular forms. The method of proof is by degeneration to elliptically fibered rational surfaces. New formulas relating reduced virtual classes on K3 surfaces to standard virtual classes after degeneration are needed for both maps and sheaves. We also prove a Gromov-Witten/Pairs correspondence for toric 3-folds. Our approach uses a result of Kiem and Li to produce reduced classes. In Appendix A, we answer a number of questions about the relationship between the Kiem-Li approach, traditional virtual cycles, and symmetric obstruction theories. The interplay between the boundary geometry of the moduli spaces of curves, K3 surfaces, and modular forms is explored in Appendix B by A. Pixton.

Abstract:From the viewpoint of mirror symmetry, we revisit the hypergeometric system for a family of K3 surfaces. We construct a good resolution of the Baily-Borel-Satake compactification of its parameter space, which admits special boundary points (LCSLs) given by normal crossing divisors. We find local isomorphisms between the systems and the associated GKZ systems defined locally on the parameter space and cover the entire parameter space. Parallel structures are conjectured in general for hypergeometric system on Grassmannians. Local solutions and mirror symmetry will be described in a companion paper\cite {HLTYpartII}, where we introduce a K3 analogue of the elliptic lambda function in terms of genus two theta functions.

Abstract:We introduce an inseparable version of Kummer surfaces. It is defined as a supersingular K3 surface in characteristic 2 with 16 smooth rational curves forming a certain configuration and satisfying a suitable divisibility condition. The main result is that such a surface admits an inseparable double covering by a non-normal surface $A$ that is similar to abelian surfaces in two aspects: its numerical invariants are the same as abelian surfaces, and its smooth locus admits an abelian group structure.
