Abstract:Jacobi-Trudy formula for a generalisation of Schur polynomials related to any sequence of orthogonal polynomials in one variable is given. As a corollary we have Giambelli formula for generalised Schur polynomials.

Abstract:In 2007 Lam and Pylyavskyy found a combinatorial formula for the dual stable Grothendieck polynomials, which are the dual basis of the stable Grothendieck polynomials with respect to the Hall inner product. In 2016 Galashin, Grinberg, and Liu introduced refined dual stable Grothendieck polynomials by putting additional sequence of parameters in the combinatorial formula of Lam and Pylyavskyy. Grinberg conjectured a Jacobi--Trudi type formula for refined dual stable Grothendieck polynomials. In this paper this conjecture is proved by using bijections of Lam and Pylyavskyy.

Abstract:In this paper the authors prove a generalization of certain generating functions for Jacobi and related polynomials, given recently by H. M. Srivastava. The method used is due to Pólya and Szegö, and it is based on Rodrigues' formula for the Jacobi polynomials and Lagrange's expansion theorem. A number of special and limiting cases of the main result will give rise to a class of generating functions for ultraspherical, Laguerre and Bessel polynomials.

Abstract:In this paper we generalize and specialize generating functions for classical orthogonal polynomials, namely Jacobi, Gegenbauer, Chebyshev and Legendre polynomials. We derive a generalization of the generating function for Gegenbauer polynomials through extension a two element sequence of generating functions for Jacobi polynomials. Specializations of generating functions are accomplished through the re-expression of Gauss hypergeometric functions in terms of less general functions. Definite integrals which correspond to the presented orthogonal polynomial series expansions are also given.

Abstract:In this paper, we give a practical method to compute the Jacobian matrices of generalized Chebyshev polynomials associated to arbitrary semisimple Lie algebras. The entries of each Jacobian matrix can be expressed as a linear combination of characters of irreducible representations of the underlying Lie algebra with integer coefficients. These integer coefficients can be obtained by basic computations in the fundamental Weyl chamber.

Abstract:For a certain class of generalized hypergeometric polynomials, the authors first derive a general theorem on bilinear, bilateral, and mixed multilateral generating functions and then apply these generating functions in order to deduce the corresponding results for the classical Jacobi and Laguerre polynomials. They also consider several linear generating functions for these polynomials as well as for some multivariable Jacobi and multivariable Laguerre polynomials which were investigated in recent years. Some of the linear generating functions, presented in this paper, are associated with the Stirling numbers of the second kind.

Abstract:Using the vertex operator representations for symplectic and orthogonal Schur functions, we define two families of symmetric functions and show thatthey are the skew symplectic and skew orthogonal Schur polynomials defined implicitly by Koike and Terada and satisfy the general branching rules. Furthermore, we derive the Jacobi-Trudi identities and Gelfand-Tsetlin patterns for these symmetric functions. Additionally, the vertex operator method yields their Cauchy-type identities. This demonstrates that vertex operator representations serve not only as a tool for studying symmetric functions but also offers unified realizations for skew Schur functions of types A, C, and D.

Abstract:By making use of the familiar group-theoretic (Lie algebraic) method of Louis Weisner (1899–1988), many authors recently proved various single- and multiple-series generating functions for the so-called extended Jacobi polynomials. The main object of the present sequel to these earlier works is to show how easily each of such generating functions can be derived from the corresponding known result for the classical Jacobi polynomials. Many general families of bilinear, bilateral, or mixed multilateral generating functions for the Jacobi and related orthogonal polynomials, which are seemingly relevant to the present investigation, are also considered here.

Abstract:Egge, Loehr and Warrington gave in \cite{ELW} a combinatorial formula that permits to convert the expansion of a symmetric function, homogeneous of degree $n$, in terms of Gessel's fundamental quasisymmetric functions into an expansion in terms of Schur functions. Surprisingly the Egge, Loehr and Warrington result may be shown to be simply equivalent to replacing the Gessel fundamental by a Schur function indexed by the same composition. In this paper we give a direct proof of the validity of this replacement. This interpretation of the result in \cite{ELW} has already been successfully applied to Schur positivity problems.

Abstract:Orthogonal polynomials on the real line always satisfy a three-term recurrence relation. The recurrence coefficients determine a tridiagonal semi-infinite matrix (Jacobi matrix) which uniquely characterizes the orthogonal polynomials. We investigate new orthogonal polynomials by adding to the Jacobi matrix $r$ new rows and columns, so that the original Jacobi matrix is shifted downward. The $r$ new rows and columns contain $2r$ new parameters and the newly obtained orthogonal polynomials thus correspond to an upward extension of the Jacobi matrix. We give an explicit expression of the new orthogonal polynomials in terms of the original orthogonal polynomials, their associated polynomials and the $2r$ new parameters, and we give a fourth order differential equation for these new polynomials when the original orthogonal polynomials are classical. Furthermore we show how the orthogonalizing measure for these new orthogonal polynomials can be obtained and work out the details for a one-parameter family of Jacobi polynomials for which the associated polynomials are again Jacobi polynomials.

Abstract:In this article, we extend the classical framework for computing discriminants of special quasi-orthogonal polynomials from Schur's resultant formula, and establish a framework for computing discriminants of a sufficiently broader class of polynomials from the resultant formulas that are proven by Ulas and Turaj. More precisely, we derive a formula for the discriminant of a sequence of polynomials. Here, c is an element of a field K and is a sequence of polynomials satisfying a certain recurrence relation. There are several works computing the discriminants of given polynomials. For example, Kaneko–Niiho and Mahlburg–Ono independently proved the formula for the discriminants of certain hypergeometric polynomials that are related to j -invariants of supersingular elliptic curves. Sawa–Uchida proved the formula for the discriminants of quasi-Jacobi polynomials and applied it to prove the nonexistence of certain rational quadrature formulas. Our main theorem presents a uniform way to prove a vast generalization of the above formulas for the discriminants.

A determinantal formula for orthosymplectic Schur functions

Abstract:We prove a new determinantal formula for the characters of irreducible representations of orthosymplectic Lie superalgebras analogous to the formula developed by Moens and Jeugt (J. Algebraic Combin., 2003) for general linear Lie superalgebras. Our proof uses the Jacobi--Trudi type formulas for orthosymplectic characters. As a consequence, we show that the odd symplectic characters introduced by Proctor (Invent. Math., 1988) are the same as the orthosymplectic characters with some specialized indeterminates. We also give a generalization of an odd symplectic character identity due to Brent, Krattenthaler and Warnaar (J. Combin. Theory Ser. A, 2016).

Abstract:In this paper, a new generalization of third-order Jacobsthal bihyperbolic polynomials is introduced. Some of the properties of presented polynomials are given. A Vadja formula for the generalized bihyperbolic third-order Jacobsthal polynomials is obtained. This result implies the Catalan, Cassini and d'Ocagne identities. Moreover, generating function and matrix generators for these polynomials are presented.

Abstract:We consider polynomials of the form $\operatorname{s}_\lambda(y_1^{[\varkappa_1]},\ldots,y_n^{[\varkappa_n]})$, where $\lambda$ is an integer partition, $\operatorname{s}_\lambda$ is the Schur polynomial associated to $\lambda$, and $y_j^{[\varkappa_j]}$ denotes $y_j$ repeated $\varkappa_j$ times. We represent $\operatorname{s}_\lambda(y_1^{[\varkappa_1]},\ldots,y_n^{[\varkappa_n]})$ as a quotient whose the denominator is the determinant of the confluent Vandermonde matrix, and the numerator is the determinant of some generalized confluent Vandermonde matrix. We give three algebraic proofs of this formula.

Abstract:By interpreting Kostka numbers as tensor product multiplicities in the BGG category O for the special linear Lie algebras, we provide a new proof of the classical Jacobi--Trudi identities for skew Schur polynomials, derived from the celebrated Weyl character formula. We re-establish the Schur positivity of certain truncations in the Jacobi--Trudi expansion of skew Schur polynomials and obtain Schur positivity results for similar truncations in the Jacobi--Trudi-type expansion of the product of two Schur polynomials. Furthermore, we interpret the coefficients in the Schur polynomial expansions of these Jacobi--Trudi truncations as tensor product multiplicities in the BGG category O.

Abstract:In this paper, we are concerned with Jacobi polynomials P_n^(α ,β )(x) on the Bernstein ellipse with motivation mainly coming from recent studies of convergence rate of spectral interpolation. An explicit representation of P_n^(α ,β )(x) is derived in the variable of parametrization. This formula further allows us to show that the maximum value of | P_n^(α ,β )(z)| over the Bernstein ellipse is attained at one of the endpoints of the major axis if α +β≥ -1 . For the minimum value, we are able to show that for a large class of Gegenbauer polynomials (i.e., α =β ), it is attained at two endpoints of the minor axis. These results particularly extend those previously known only for some special cases. Moreover, we obtain a more refined asymptotic estimate for Jacobi polynomials on the Bernstein ellipse.
