Abstract:We characterize one-dimensional compact repellers having nonconcave Lyapunov spectra. For linear maps with two branches we give an explicit condition that characterizes non-concave Lyapunov spectra.

Abstract:We characterize a nonlinear full invariant of compact Banach-space maps: Let ( X , ‖.‖) and ( Y , ‖.‖) be two Banach spaces and P C ( X , Y ) be all compact maps which map ( X , ‖.‖) to ( Y , ‖.‖). Then each weak operator-topology subseries-convergent series ∑ i P i in P c ( X , Y ) is also uniform-topology subseries-convergent iff each bounded map from ( X , ‖.‖) to ( l 1 , ‖.‖ 1 ) is a compact map. The necessary condition for each weak operator-topology subseries-convergent series ∑ i P i in P C ( X , Y ) to be also uniform-topology subseries-convergent is that ( X , ‖.‖) and ( X ′, ‖.‖) both contain no copy of c 0 . This necessary condition is not sufficient.

Abstract:It is known that the Lyapunov exponent is not continuous at certain points in the space of continuous quasi-periodic cocycles. We show that the Lyapunov exponent is continuous for a higher-dimensional analytic category in this paper. It has a modulus of continuity of the form exp(−∣logt∣ σ ) for some 0 < σ < 1.

Abstract:When analytic quasi-periodic cocycles are defined on a high dimension torus, their Lyapunov exponents have perturbative positivity and continuity. In this article, we study a class of analytic quasi-periodic Jacobi cocycles defined on a two dimension torus. We show that in the non-perturbative large coupling regimes, the Lyapunov exponent is positive for any frequency and weak Holder continuous for the full-measured frequency.

Abstract:In the study of the continuity of the Lyapunov exponent for the discrete quasi-periodic Schrodinger operators, there is a pioneering result by Wang-You [ 21 ] that the authors constructed examples whose Lyapunov exponent is discontinuous in the potential with the \begin{document}$ C^0 $\end{document} norm for non-analytic potentials. In this paper, we consider this operators for some Gevrey potential, which is an analytic function having a Gevrey small perturbation, with Diophantine frequency. We prove that in the large coupling regions, the Lyapunov exponent is positive and jointly continuous in all parameters, such as the energy, the frequency and the potential. Note that all analytic functions are also Gevrey ones. Therefore, we also obtain that all of the large analytic potentials are the non-perturbative weak Holder continuous points of the Lyapunov exponent in the Gevrey topology with \begin{document}$ C^0 $\end{document} norm. It is the first result about the continuity in non-analytic potential with this norm and is complementary to Wang-You's result.

Abstract:Iommi & Kiwi showed that the Lyapunov spectrum of an expanding map need not be concave, and posed various problems concerning the possible number of inflection points. In this paper we answer a conjecture of Iommi & Kiwi by proving that the Lyapunov spectrum of a two branch piecewise linear map has at most two points of inflection. We then answer a question of Iommi & Kiwi by proving that there exist finite branch piecewise linear maps whose Lyapunov spectra have arbitrarily many points of inflection. This approach is used to exhibit a countable branch piecewise linear map whose Lyapunov spectrum has infinitely many points of inflection.

Abstract:In this paper, we construct a class of special Jacobi cocycles, some element of which is a measurable function defined on the high dimensional torus. We prove that no matter the underlying dynamics is the shift or the skew-shift, the non-perturbative positive Lyapunov exponent holds for any irrational frequency, when the coupling number is large. What's more, if the frequency becomes to be the Diophantine number, then the Lyapunov exponent is weak continuity in the energy.

Abstract:Let $\Omega$ be a strictly convex divisible subset of the $n$-dimensional real projective space which is not an ellipsoid. Even though $\partial\Omega$ is not $C^2$, Benoist showed that it is $C^{1+\alpha}$ for some $\alpha>0$, and Crampon established that $\partial\Omega$ actually possesses a sort of anisotropic Hölder regularity -- described by a list $\alpha_1\leq\dots\leq\alpha_{n-1}$ of positive real numbers -- at almost all of its points. In this article, we show that $\partial\Omega$ is maximally anisotropic in the sense that this list of approximate regularities of $\partial\Omega$ does not contain repetitions. This result is a consequence of the simplicity of the Lyapunov spectrum of the Hilbert geodesic flow for every equilibrium measure associated to a Hölder potential.

Abstract:In this paper, we study two properties of the Lyapunov exponents under small perturbations: one is when we can remove zero Lyapunov exponents and the other is when we can distinguish all the Lyapunov exponents. The first result shows that we can perturb all the zero integrated Lyapunov exponents $\int_M \lambda_j(x)d\omega(x)$ into nonzero ones, for any partially hyperbolic diffeomorphism. The second part contains an example which shows the local genericity of diffeomorphisms with non-simple spectrum and three results: one discusses the relation between simple-spectrum property and the existence of complex eigenvalues; the other two describe the difference on the spectrum between the diffeomorphisms far from homoclinic tangencies and those in the interior of the complement. Moreover, among the conservative diffeomorphisms far from tangencies, we prove that ergodic ones form a residual subset.

Abstract:Abstract In this paper we study ergodic optimization and multifractal behavior of Lyapunov exponents for matrix cocycles. We show that the restricted variational principle holds for generic cocycles [in the sense of (Bonatti and Viana in Ergod Theory Dyn Syst 24(5):1295–1330, 2004)] over mixing subshifts of finite type. We also show that the Lyapunov spectrum is equal to the closure of the set where the entropy spectrum is positive for such cocycles. Abstract:We consider the spectrum of the Laplace operator acting on $\mathcal{L}^p$ over a conformally compact manifold for $1 \leq p \leq \infty$. We prove that for $p \neq 2$ this spectrum always contains an open region of the complex plane. We further show that the spectrum is contained within a certain parabolic region of the complex plane. These regions depend on the value of $p$, the dimension of the manifold, and the values of the sectional curvatures approaching the boundary.

Abstract:We consider MRL maps (Markov-Renyi-Lüroth), a class of interval maps with infinitely many branches that can have parabolic fixed points. We prove that for every MRL map $T$, the Lyapunov spectrum can be expressed in terms of the Legendre transform of the topological pressure of $-t\log|T'|$, generalizing previous results in the area. We also show that the Lyapunov spectrum coincides with a function directly related to the Newton-Raphson method applied to the topological pressure of $-t\log|T'|$.

Abstract:We prove that for any polynomial map with a single critical point its lower Lyapunov exponent at the critical value is negative if and only if the map has an attracting cycle. Similar statement holds for the exponential maps and some other complex dynamical systems. We prove further that for the unicritical polynomials with positive area Julia sets almost every point of the Julia set has zero Lyapunov exponent. Part of this statement generalizes as follows: every point with positive upper Lyapunov exponent in the Julia set of an arbitrary polynomial is not a Lebegue density point.

Abstract:We point out that the Lyapunov exponent of the eigenstate places restrictions on the eigenvalue. Consequently, with regard to non-Hermitian systems, even without any symmetry, the non-conservative Hamiltonians can exhibit real spectra as long as Lyapunov exponents of eigenstates inhibit imaginary parts of eigenvalues. Our findings open up a new route to study non-Hermitian physics.

Algorithmic construction of Lyapunov functions for continuous vector fields via convex semi-infinite programs

Abstract:This article presents a novel numerically tractable technique for synthesizing Lyapunov functions for equilibria of nonlinear vector fields. In broad strokes, corresponding to an isolated equilibrium point of a given vector field, a selection is made of a compact neighborhood of the equilibrium and a dictionary of functions in which a Lyapunov function is expected to lie. Then an algorithmic procedure based on the recent work [DACC22] is deployed on the preceding neighborhood-dictionary pair and charged with the task of finding a function satisfying a compact family of inequalities that defines the behavior of a Lyapunov function on the selected neighborhood. The technique applies to continuous nonlinear vector fields without special algebraic structures and does not even require their analytical expressions to proceed. Several numerical examples are presented to illustrate our results.

Abstract:We show the existence of large $\mathcal C^1$ open sets of area preserving endomorphisms of the two-torus which have no dominated splitting and are non-uniformly hyperbolic, meaning that Lebesgue almost every point has a positive and a negative Lyapunov exponent. The integrated Lyapunov exponents vary continuously with the dynamics in the $\mathcal C^1$ topology and can be taken as far away from zero as desired. Explicit real analytic examples are obtained by deforming linear endomorphisms, including expanding ones. The technique works in nearly every homotopy class and the examples are stably ergodic (in fact Bernoulli), provided that the linear map has no eigenvalue of modulus one.
