Abstract:The Theorems of Hindman and van der Waerden belong to the classical theorems of partition Ramsey Theory. The Central Sets Theorem is a strong simultaneous extension of both theorems that applies to general commutative semigroups. We give a common extension of the Central Sets Theorem and Ramsey's Theorem.

Abstract:Hindman's theorem and van der Waerden's theorem are two classical Ramsey theoretic results, the first one deals with finite configurations and the second one deals with infinite configurations. The Central Sets Theorem due to Furstenberg is a strong simultaneous extension of both theorems, which also applies to general commutative semigroups. Beiglboeck provided a common extension of the Central Sets Theorem and Milliken-Taylor Theorem in commutative case. Furstenberg's original Central Sets Theorem was proved in \cite{key-2} for $\left(\mathbb{N},+\right)$ for finitely many sequences at a time. Bergelson and Hindman provided a non commutative version of this Theorem \cite{key-3}. The first author of this article jointly with Hindman and Straus provided a non-commutative version of Central Sets Theorem using arbitrary many sequence at a time \cite{key-5}. In this work we will provide a non-commutative extension of Beiglboeck's Theorem. We also provide polynomial generalization of Beiglbock's theorem.

Abstract:The Central Sets Theorem near zero was originally proved by Hindman and Leader. Later a version of Central Sets Theorem was proved by De, Hindman and Strauss known to be the stronger Central Sets Theorem. Subsequently many other versions of Central Sets Theorem came, among which Dev Phulara proved the theorem for a sequence of central sets instead of taking one set. In this paper, we provide various general versions of the theorem along Dev Phulara's way with some Ramsey theoretic applications.

Abstract:In this article, we prove twofold polynomial extension of Beigelböck's \cite{b} multidimensional Central Sets Theorem (which was a common extension of Furstenberg's Central Sets Theorem, and Milliken-Taylor theorem). We also find the complete ultrafilter characterization of the multidimensional Central Sets Theorems. Then we prove twofold common extension of Bergelson, Hindman, and William's \cite{bhw} polynomial Milliken-Taylor theorem, and the multidimensional polynomial Central Sets Theorems. We also find a sufficient condition over two distinct multidimensional polynomials for which their Milliken-Taylor image lie in the same color. This result gives a partial polynomial extension of Deuber, Hindman, Leader, and Lefmann's \cite{d} result on the separating Milliken-Taylor system.

Abstract:In this paper, we provide a common generalization to the well-known Erdös–Ko–Rado Theorem, Frankl–Wilson Theorem, Alon–Babai–Suzuki Theorem, and Snevily Theorem on set systems with L -intersections. As a consequence, we derive a result which strengthens substantially the well-known theorem on set systems with k -wise L -intersections by Füredi and Sudakov [ J. Combin. Theory, Ser. A , 105 , 143–159 (2004)]. We will also derive similar results on L -intersecting families of subspaces of an n -dimensional vector space over a finite field F q , where q is a prime power.

Abstract:In Euclidean Ramsey Theory usually we are looking for monochromatic configurations in the Euclidean space, whose points are colored with a fixed number of colors. In the canonical version, the number of colors is arbitrary, and we are looking for an `unavoidable' set of colorings of a finite configuration, that is a set of colorings with the property that one of them always appears in any coloring of the space. This set definitely includes the monochromatic and the rainbow colorings. In the present paper, we prove the following two results of this type. First, for any acute triangle $T$, and any coloring of $\mathbb{R}^3$, there is either a monochromatic or a rainbow copy of $T$. Second, for every $m$, there exists a sufficiently large $n$ such that in any coloring of $\mathbb{R}^n$, there exists either a monochromatic or a rainbow $m$-dimensional unit hypercube. In the maximum norm, $\ell_{\infty}$, we have a much stronger statement. For every finite $M$, there exits an $n$ such that in any coloring of $\mathbb{R}_\infty^n$, there is either a monochromatic or a rainbow isometric copy of $M$.

Large recurrence of the polynomial Van der Waerden's theorem and its application in Ramsey theory

Abstract:Recently M. Di Nasso and M. Ragosta proved an exponential version of Hindman's finite sum theorem: for every finite partition of $\mathbb{N}$, there exists a monochromatic Hindman tower of a single sequence. They used the stronger version of Furstenberg's Central Sets Theorem and the theory of ultrafilters to prove their results. In this article, we prove these patterns are abundant by considering two-fold extensions of the Di Nasso-Ragosta theorem. We prove that each term of this pattern can be chosen from a finite set of any given length, consisting of a multiplicative $IP_r$ (that we will define later) set and a set consisting of geometric progression (sets containing both arithmetic and geometric progression) of finite length. To prove our result, first, we improve the size of the recurrence set of V. Bergelson and A. Leibmann's polynomial Van der Waerden's Theorem, and then we study its two-fold applications. First, we study monochromatic patterns involving polynomials over sum sets in additive piecewise syndetic sets. Then in the second, applying methods of induction, we construct infinitary patterns involving a two-fold improvement of the Di Nasso-Ragosta theorem. Then we study the properties of some special classes of ultrafilters witnessing variants of these patterns. Throughout our article, we use the methods from the Algebra of the Stone-Čech-Compactification of discrete semigroups (for details see [N. Hindman and D. Strauss: Algebra in the Stone-Čech compactification. Walter de Gruyter\& Co., Berlin, 2012.]).

Centrality of star and monotone factorisations

Abstract:A factorisation problem in the symmetric group is central if any two permutations in the same conjugacy class have the same number of factorisations. We give the first fully combinatorial proof of the centrality of transitive star factorisations that is valid in all genera, which answers a natural question of Goulden and Jackson from 2009. Our proof is through a bijection to a class of monotone double Hurwitz factorisations. These latter factorisations are also not obviously central, so we also give a combinatorial proof of their centrality. As a corollary we obtain new formulae for some monotone double Hurwitz numbers, and a new relation between Hurwitz and monotone Hurwitz numbers. We also generalise a theorem of Goulden and Jackson from 2009 that states that the transitive power of Jucys-Murphy elements are central. Our theorem states that the transitive image of any symmetric function evaluated at Jucys-Murphy elements is central, which gives a transitive version of Jucys' original result from 1974.

Dynamical characterization of central sets in adequate partial semigroups

Abstract:Using the methods from topological dynamics, H. Furstenberg introduced the notions of Central sets and proved the famous Central Sets Theorem which is the simultaneous extension of the van der Waerden and Hindman Theorem. Later N. Hindman and V. Bergelson found an equivalent formulation of Central sets in the set of natural numbers in terms of the algebra of the Stone-Čech compactification of discrete semigroups. The general case was proved by H. Shi and H. Yang. Using the notions of ultrafilters, J. McLeod introduced the notions of Central sets for commutative adequate partial semigroups, however for noncommutative cases, Central sets can be defined similarly. In this article, introducing the notions of topological dynamics for partial semigroup actions, we find an equivalent dynamical characterization of central sets in partial semigroups\footnote{Recently in \cite{GTG}, authors attempted to do the same but in a different approach.}. Throughout our article, we follow the approach of N. Hindman and D. Strauss [N. Hindman, and D. Strauss: Algebra in the Stone-\v Cech compactification: theory and applications, second edition, de Gruyter, Berlin, 2012.].

The interplay between additive and symmetric large sets and their combinatorial applications

Abstract:The study of symmetric structures is a new trend in Ramsey theory. Recently in [7], Di Nasso initiated a systematic study of symmetrization of classical Ramsey theoretical results, and proved a symmetric version of several Ramsey theoretic results. In this paper Di Nasso asked if his method could be adapted to find new non-linear Diophantine equations that are partition regular [7,Final remarks (4)]. By analyzing additive, multiplicative, and symmetric large sets, we construct new partition regular equations that give a first affirmative answer to this question. A special case of our result shows that if $P$ is a polynomial with no constant term then the equation $x+P(y-x)=z+w+zw$, where $y\neq x$ is partition regular. Also we prove several new monochromatic patterns involving additive, multiplicative, and symmetric structures. Throughout our work, we use tools from the Algebra of the Stone-Čech Compactifications of discrete semigroups.

Abstract:We consider the weakening of Ramsey's theorem that arises from considering only translation-invariant colourings of pairs, and show that this has the same strength (both from the viewpoint of Reverse Mathematics and from the viewpoint of Computability Theory) as the "adjacent Hindman's theorem", proposed by L. Carlucci (Arch. Math. Log. 57 (2018), 381--359). We also investigate some higher dimensional versions of both of these statements.

Abstract:SIAM Journal on Discrete Mathematics, Volume 38, Issue 1, Page 609-628, March 2024. Hindman proved in 1979 that no matter how natural numbers are colored in [math] colors, for a fixed positive integer [math], there is an infinite subset [math] of numbers and a color [math] such that for any finite nonempty subset [math] of [math], the color of the sum of elements from [math] is [math]. Later, Taylor extended this result to colorings with an unrestricted number of colors and five unavoidable color patterns on finite sums. This result is referred to as a canonization of Hindman's theorem and parallels the canonical Ramsey theorem of Erdős and Rado. We extend Taylor's result from sums, that are linear combinations with coefficients 1, to several linear combinations with coefficients 1 and [math]. These results in turn could be interpreted as canonical-type theorems for solutions to infinite systems.

Abstract:The family of finite subsets $s$ of the natural numbers such that $|s|=1+\min s$ is known as the Schreier barrier in combinatorics and Banach Space theory, and as the family of exactly $\omega$-large sets in Logic. We formulate and prove the generalizations of Friedman's Free Set and Thin Set theorems and of Rainbow Ramsey's theorem to colorings of the Schreier barrier. We analyze the strength of these theorems from the point of view of Computability Theory and Reverse Mathematics. Surprisingly, the exactly $\omega$-large counterparts of the Thin Set and Free Set theorems can code $\emptyset^{(\omega)}$, while the exactly $\omega$-large Rainbow Ramsey theorem does not code the halting set.

Foundations of Computational Mathematics

Abstract:We study two related problems concerning the number of homogeneous subsets of given size in graphs that go back to questions of Erdős. Most notably, we improve the upper bounds on the Ramsey multiplicity of and and settle the minimum number of independent sets of size 4 in graphs with clique number at most 4. Motivated by the elusiveness of the symmetric Ramsey multiplicity problem, we also introduce an off-diagonal variant and obtain tight results when counting monochromatic or in only one of the colors and triangles in the other. The extremal constructions for each problem turn out to be blow-ups of a graph of constant size and were found through search heuristics. They are complemented by lower bounds established using flag algebras, resulting in a fully computer-assisted approach. For some of our theorems we can also derive that the extremal construction is stable in a very strong sense. More broadly, these problems lead us to the study of the region of possible pairs of clique and independent set densities that can be realized as the limit of some sequence of graphs.

A unified approach to Hindman, Ramsey and van der Waerden spaces

Abstract:For many years, there have been conducting research (e.g. by Bergelson, Furstenberg, Kojman, Kubiś, Shelah, Szeptycki, Weiss) into sequentially compact spaces that are, in a sense, topological counterparts of some combinatorial theorems, for instance Ramsey's theorem for coloring graphs, Hindman's finite sums theorem and van der Waerden's arithmetical progressions theorem. These spaces are defined with the aid of different kinds of convergences: IP-convergence, R-convergence and ordinary convergence. The first aim of this paper is to present a unified approach to these various types of convergences and spaces. Then, using this unified approach, we prove some general theorems about existence of the considered spaces and show that all results obtained so far in this subject can be derived from our theorems. The second aim of this paper is to obtain new results about the specific types of these spaces. For instance, we construct a Hausdorff Hindman space that is not an $\I_{1/n}$-space and a Hausdorff differentially compact space that is not Hindman. Moreover, we compare Ramsey spaces with other types of spaces. For instance, we construct a Ramsey space that is not Hindman and a Hindman space that is not Ramsey. The last aim of this paper is to provide a characterization that shows when there exists a space of one considered type that is not of the other kind. This characterization is expressed in purely combinatorial manner with the aid of the so-called Katětov order that has been extensively examined for many years so far. This paper may interest the general audience of mathematicians as the results we obtain are on the intersection of topology, combinatorics, set theory and number theory.

Abstract:In \cite[Proposition 8.21 Page-169]{F} Using the methods of topological dynamics, H. Furstenberg introduced the notion of central set and proved the famous Central Sets Theorem. Later, in \cite{DHS}, D. De, H. Hindman and D. Struss established a strong Central Sets Theorem, where they introduced the notion of $J$-set. Like $J$-set, in \cite{BG} V. Bergelson and D. Glasscock introduced the notion of combinatorially rich set ( $CR$-set). Let $u,v\in\mathbb{N}$ and $A$ be a $u\times v$ matrix with rational entries. In \cite{HS23}, N. Hindman and D. Strauss established that whenever $B$ is a piecewise syndetic set (resp. $J$-set) in $\mathbb{Z}$, $\left\{ \vec{x}\in\mathbb{Z}^{v}:A\vec{x}\in B^{u}\right\} $ is a piecewise syndetic set ( resp. $J$-set) in $\mathbb{Z}^{v}$. In this article, we prove the same result for $CR$-sets using an equivalent definition of $CR$-set in \cite{HHST} by N. Hindman, H. Hosseini, D. Strauss and M. Tootkaboni.

Combinatorial aspects of szemerédi ’ s theorem

Abstract:In the first section we review the beautiful combinatorial theory of Ramsey as well as the history of Szemerédi’s theorem. In Section 2 we give a sketch of Ruzsa’s modern proof of Freiman’s theorem on sumsets which plays an important role in Gowers’ quantitative proof of Szemerédi’s theorem. In the last section we deduce Roth’s theorem (Szemerédi’s theorem in the case k=3) from the Triangle Removal Lemma (in graph-theoretic language) which is an application of Szemerédi’s Regularity Lemma (a powerful tool in graph theory), and show the BalogSzemerédi-Gowers theorem by a graph-theoretic method.

Abstract:Abstract Let denote the number of ‐dimensional partitions with entries from . Building upon the works of Balogh–Treglown–Wagner and Noel–Scott–Sudakov, we show that when , holds for all . This makes progress toward a conjecture of Moshkovitz–Shapira [ Adv. in Math . 262 (2014), 1107–1129]. Via the main result of Moshkovitz and Shapira, our estimate also determines asymptotically a Ramsey‐theoretic parameter related to Erdős–Szekeres‐type functions, thus solving a problem of Fox, Pach, Sudakov, and Suk [ Proc. Lond. Math. Soc . 105 (2012), 953–982]. Our main result is a new supersaturation theorem for antichains in , which may be of independent interest.

Abstract:Many important problems in combinatorics and other related areas can be phrased in the language of independent sets in hypergraphs. Recently Balogh, Morris and Samotij, and independently Saxton and Thomason developed very general container theorems for independent sets in hypergraphs; both of which have seen numerous applications to a wide range of problems. In this paper we use the container method to give relatively short and elementary proofs of a number of results concerning Ramsey (and Turán) properties of (hyper)graphs and the integers. In particular: (i) We generalise the random Ramsey theorem of Rödl and Ruciński by providing a resilience analogue. Our result unifies and generalises several fundamental results in the area including the random version of Turán's theorem due to Conlon and Gowers and Schacht. (ii) The above result also resolves a general subcase of the asymmetric random Ramsey conjecture of Kohayakawa and Kreuter. (iii) All of the above results in fact hold for uniform hypergraphs. (iv) For a (hyper)graph $H$, we determine, up to an error term in the exponent, the number of $n$-vertex (hyper)graphs $G$ that have the Ramsey property with respect to $H$ (that is, whenever $G$ is $r$-coloured, there is a monochromatic copy of $H$ in $G$). (v) We strengthen the random Rado theorem of Friedgut, Rödl and Schacht by proving a resilience version of the result. (vi) For partition regular matrices $A$ we determine, up to an error term in the exponent, the number of subsets of $\{1,\dots,n\}$ for which there exists an $r$-colouring which contains no monochromatic solutions to $Ax=0$. Along the way a number of open problems are posed.
