Abstract:Here we give a new proof of this result. Our proof depends on an estimate of a maximal operator on the Lorentz space which is of some independent interest. Finally, we use this inequality to get a generalisation of Bethuel’s inequality.

Abstract:Let G=(V,E) be a simple connected weighted graph on n vertices, in which the edge weights are positive definite matrices. The eigenvalues of G are the eigenvalues of its adjacency matrix. In this note, we present a correction in equality part in Theorem 2 [S. Sorgun, S. Büyükköse, The new upper bounds on the spectral radius of weighted graphs, Appl. Math. Comput. 218 (2012) 5231–5238]. In addition, some related results are also provided.

Abstract:A well-known result in extremal spectral graph theory, due to Nosal and Nikiforov, states that if $G$ is a triangle-free graph on $n$ vertices, then $\lambda (G) \le \lambda (K_{\lfloor \frac{n}{2}\rfloor, \lceil \frac{n}{2} \rceil })$, equality holds if and only if $G=K_{\lfloor \frac{n}{2}\rfloor, \lceil \frac{n}{2} \rceil }$. Nikiforov [Linear Algebra Appl. 427 (2007)] extended this result to $K_{r+1}$-free graphs for every integer $r\ge 2$. This is known as the spectral Turán theorem. Recently, Lin, Ning and Wu [Combin. Probab. Comput. 30 (2021)] proved a refinement on this result for non-bipartite triangle-free graphs. In this paper, we provide alternative proofs for the result of Nikiforov and the result of Lin, Ning and Wu. Our proof can allow us to extend the later result to non-$r$-partite $K_{r+1}$-free graphs. Our result refines the theorem of Nikiforov and it also can be viewed as a spectral version of a theorem of Brouwer.

Abstract:We prove the Li-Yau gradient estimate for the heat kernel on graphs. The only assumption is a variant of the curvature-dimension inequality, which is purely local, and can be considered as a new notion of curvature for graphs. We compute this curvature for lattices and trees and conclude that it behaves more naturally than the already existing notions of curvature. Moreover, we show that if a graph has non-negative curvature then it has polynomial volume growth. We also derive Harnack inequalities and heat kernel bounds from the gradient estimate, and show how it can be used to strengthen the classical Buser inequality relating the spectral gap and the Cheeger constant of a graph.

Abstract:Let Σ be a signed graph where two edges joining the same pair of vertices with opposite signs are allowed. The zero-free chromatic number χ∗(Σ) of Σ is the minimum even integer 2k such that G admits a proper coloring f:V(Σ)↦{±1,±2,…,±k}. The zero-free list chromatic number χl∗(Σ) is the list version of zero-free chromatic number. Σ is called zero-free chromatic-choosable if χl∗(Σ)=χ∗(Σ). We show that if Σ has at most χ∗(Σ)+1 vertices then Σ is zero-free chromatic-choosable. This result strengthens Noel–Reed–Wu Theorem which states that every graph G with at most 2χ(G)+1 vertices is chromatic-choosable, where χ(G) is the chromatic number of G.

Abstract:In this paper, we derive Li-Yau inequality for unbounded Laplacian on complete weighted graphs with the assumption of the curvature dimension inequality CDE′(n,K), which can be regarded as a notion of curvature on graphs. Furthermore, we obtain some applications of Li-Yau inequality, including Harnack inequality, heat kernel bounds and Cheng's eigenvalue estimate. These are the first kind of results in this direction for unbounded Laplacian on graphs.

Abstract:We investigate two conjectured spectral graph theoretic strengthenings of Turán's theorem. Let $\mu_1 \ge \ldots \ge \mu_n$ denote the eigenvalues of a graph $G$ with $n$ vertices, $m$ edges and clique number $\omega(G)$. The concise version of Turán's theorem is that $n/(n - d)$ is a lower bound for the clique number $\omega(G)$, where $d$ is the average degree. Our first conjecture is that $d$ can be replaced in this bound with $\sqrt{s^+}$, where $s^+$ is the sum of the squares of the positive eigenvalues. We prove this conjecture for triangle-free, weakly perfect and Kneser graphs and for almost all graphs. We have also used various software tools to search for a counter-example. Nikiforov proved a spectral version of Turán's theorem that \[ \mu_1^2 \le \frac{2m(\omega(G) - 1)}{\omega(G)}, \] and Bollobás and Nikiforov conjectured that for $G \not = K_n$ \[ \mu_1^2 + \mu_2^2 \le \frac{2m(\omega(G) - 1)}{\omega(G)}. \] For our second conjecture, we propose that for all graphs $(\mu_1^2 + \mu_2^2)$ in this inequality can be replaced by the sum of the squares of the $\omega(G)$ largest eigenvalues, provided they are positive. We prove the conjecture for weakly perfect, Kneser, and classes of strongly regular graphs. We also provide experimental evidence and describe how the bound can be applied. Liu and Ning published a wide-ranging paper entitled ``Unsolved Problems in spectral graph theory'', and these two conjectures were placed second and fourth in their list of such problems.

Abstract:In this paper, the authors make use of certain analytical techniques for nonlinear algebraic equation systems in order to give another refinement of the Pólya–Szegö inequality in a triangle, which is associated with one of Chen’s theorems (see Chen (1993) [12] and Chen (2000) [13]). Some remarks and observations, as well as two closely-related open problems, are also presented.

Abstract:In this paper, we construct a general Bell inequality for the graph state. Firstly, we show that the Bell inequality is maximally violated by graph state corresponding to some given graph. In addition, we obtain the classical bound and maximal quantum violation of Bell inequality are N + |n(i)|− 1 and $N+(\sqrt {2}-1)(|n(i)|+1)$ , respectively. Furthermore, the classical bound and maximal quantum violation of Bell inequality are dependent on the choice of the vertex for most graphs expect for complete graph.

Abstract:This paper presents some new inequalities, the most important of which is the inequality given in Theorem 2.1. It can solve a class of inequalities by a unified method. An important application of the inequality given in Theorem 2.1 is to derive another new general form of inequality. The famous Nesbitt's inequality is a special case of this general form of inequality when n = 3. The new inequality in Theorem 2.1 proposed in this paper is easy to use and expand, and many new inequalities can be derived and obtained by direct calculation, so it has a wide range of applications. Many known inequalities can also be directly calculated by the inequalities proposed in this paper, and the calculation is simple and convenient.

Abstract:For a weighted directed multigraph, let $f_{ij}$ be the total weight of spanning converging forests that have vertex $i$ in a tree converging to $j$. We prove that $f_{ij} f_{jk} = f_{ik} f_{jj}$ if and only if every directed path from $i$ to $k$ contains $j$ (a graph bottleneck equality). Otherwise, $f_{ij} f_{jk} < f_{ik} f_{jj}$ (a graph bottleneck inequality). In a companion paper (P. Chebotarev, A new family of graph distances, arXiv preprint <a class="link-https" data-arxiv-id="0810.2717" href="https://arxiv.org/abs/0810.2717">arXiv:0810.2717</a>}. Submitted), this inequality underlies, by ensuring the triangle inequality, the construction of a new family of graph distances. This stems from the fact that the graph bottleneck inequality is a multiplicative counterpart of the triangle inequality for proximities.

Abstract:We prove a weaker version of a conjecture proposed by Qiao, Park and Koolen on diameter bounds of amply regular graphs and make new progress on Terwilliger's conjecture on finiteness of amply regular graphs. We achieve these results by a significantly improved Lin--Lu--Yau curvature estimate and new Bakry--Émery curvature estimates. We further discuss applications of our curvature estimates to bounding eigenvalues, isoperimetric constants, and volume growth. In particular, we obtain a volume estimate of amply regular graphs which is sharp for hypercubes.

Abstract:We prove that if $G$ is a graph and $f(v) \leq 1/(d(v) + 1/2)$ for each $v\in V(G)$, then either $G$ has an independent set of size at least $\sum_{v\in V(G)}f(v)$ or $G$ contains a clique $K$ such that $\sum_{v\in K}f(v) > 1$. This result implies that for any $\sigma \leq 1/2$, if $G$ is a graph and every clique $K\subseteq V(G)$ has at most $(1 - \sigma)(|K| - \sigma)$ simplicial vertices, then $\alpha(G) \geq \sum_{v\in V(G)} 1 / (d(v) + 1 - \sigma)$. Letting $\sigma = 0$ implies the famous Caro-Wei Theorem, and letting $\sigma = 1/2$ implies that if fewer than half of the vertices in each clique of $G$ are simplicial, then $\alpha(G) \geq \sum_{v\in V(G)}1/(d(v) + 1/2)$, which is tight for the 5-cycle. When applied to the complement of a graph, this result implies the following new Tur\' an stability result. If $G$ is a $K_{r + 1}$-free graph with more than $(1 - 1/r)n^2/2 - n/4$ edges, then $G$ contains an independent set $I$ such that at least half of the vertices in $I$ are complete to $G - I$. Applying this stability result iteratively provides a new proof of the stability version of Tur\' an's Theorem in which $K_{r + 1}$-free graphs with close to the extremal number of edges are $r$-partite.
