Abstract:Common polymeric conductive electrodes, such as polyethylene terephthalate (PET) coated with indium tin oxide, face a major challenge due to their low processing-temperature limits, attributed to PET's low glass transition temperature (Tg) of (70-80 degrees C). This limitation significantly narrows the scope of material selection, limits the processing techniques applicable to the low Tg, and hinders the ripened technology transfer from glass substrates to them. Addressing the temperature constraints of the flexible substrates is impactful yet underexplored, with broader implications for fields beyond photovoltaics. Here, a new thermal radiation annealing methodology is introduced to address this issue. By applying the above Tg radiation annealing in conjunction with thermoelectric cooling, highly ordered molecular packing on PET substrates is successfully created, which is exclusively unachievable due to PET's low thermal tolerance. As a result, in the context of perovskite solar cells, this approach enables the circumvention of high-temperature annealing limitations of PET substrates, leading to a remarkable flexible device efficiency of 22.61% and a record fill factor of 83.42%. This approach proves especially advantageous for advancing the field of flexible optoelectronic devices. The high-thermal tolerance flexible perovskite solar cells with excellent mechanical stability are successfully achieved by a new thermal radiation annealing methodology, which aids in the vertical growth of perovskite grains, reduction of grain boundaries, and decrease of lattice mismatch. Ultrafast and Scalable Laser‐Induced Crystallization of Titanium Dioxide Films for Planar Perovskite Solar Cells

Abstract:A conventional annealing method to fabricate metal oxide films used for perovskite solar cells (PSCs) is a time‐consuming batch process. Herein, a near‐IR fiber laser process with a unique design of power ramping program and beam configuration is developed to achieve ultrafast and scalable processing of TiO 2 films for PSCs. Highly crystalline anatase TiO 2 films can be synthesized in only 18.5 s by the laser process with a peak annealing temperature up to 800–850 °C, compared with that of the furnace‐annealing at 500 °C for 30 min and an overall processing time of 3 h. Then, a unique capability of using this laser process is presented to anneal stacked layers of substrates coated with the TiO 2 films simultaneously, with a uniform annealing area up to 15.2 cm 2 , thereby potentially achieving an in‐line production rate of over 43 cm 2 min −1 (1 cm 2 in ≈1.4 s). Planar PSCs fabricated under a high relative humidity of 60–70% based on the TiO 2 films annealed under optimal laser conditions show enhanced photovoltaic performance than the furnace‐annealed samples. This laser process potentially opens a new avenue for scalable annealing and rapid production of thin films.

Abstract:Thermal annealing plays multiple roles in fabricating high quality perovskite films. Generally, it might result in large perovskite grains by elevating annealing temperature, but might also lead to decomposition of perovskite. Here, we study the effects of annealing temperature on the coarsening of perovskite grains in a temperature range from 100 to 250 degrees C, and find that the coarsening rate of the perovskite grain increase significantly with the annealing temperature. Compared with the perovskite films annealed at 100 degrees C, high quality perovskite films with large columnar grains are obtained by annealing perovskite precursor films at 250 degrees C for only 10 s. As a result, the power conversion efficiency of best solar cell increased from 12.35% to 16.35% due to its low recombination rate and high efficient charge transportation in solar cells. Abstract:Recently, organic-inorganic hybrid perovskite materials have drawn great attention for their outstanding performance in high-efficiency solar cells. Successful synthesis has been realized either in solution-based chemical deposition or vapor deposition. However, conflicts have never ceased among quality control, growth rate, process complexity, and instrument requirement, which have limited their development toward real applications. In this work, the first electrochemical fabrication of perovskite toward high-efficiency and scalable perovskite solar cells (PSCs) is established. The morphology and crystallization of the CH3NH3PbI3 film can be effectively controlled by simply modulating a few physical parameters. A detailed study on its optoelectronic properties reveals significantly improved film quality and interfacial conditions. Aided by this, the total process does not require standard annealing, which greatly reduces the total growth time from hours to minutes. Up to now, an efficiency of 15.65% has been achieved in planar PSCs under 1 sun AM 1.5 condition, with small hysteresis and efficiency loss under longtime exposure to air. Moreover, high efficiency (10.45%) can be easily attained for large cells (2 cm(2)). This result will hopefully facilitate research for applicable high-efficiency PSCs and other multicomponent materials as well.

Abstract:Perovskite solar cells (PSCs) have gained great interest, owing to a fast increase in their power conversion efficiency (PCE), within a few years. However, their wide application and scale-up are hampered due to multiple obstacles, such as chemical instability, which leads to a short lifetime, and their complicated reaction and crystallization, which requires thermal annealing. Here, we address these issues using the ultrasonic substrate vibration post treatment (SVPT) applied on the as-spun perovskite wet films, so as to achieve a uniform, microscale and stable mixed-halide and mixed-cation perovskite layer, (FAPbI(3))(0.85)(MAPbBr(3))(0.15), without the need for a conventional thermal annealing step. This is achieved by the creation of fluid micromixing and in situ annealing within the solution, caused by the ultrasonic excitation of the wet film. The optoelectronic properties of the perovskite films subjected to the SVPT, including photoemission, carrier lifetime and band gap, are remarkably improved compared to the conventionally annealed films. When incorporated into a planar PSC, a maximum PCE of 18.55% was achieved, compared to 15.17% for the control device, with high reproducibility and no hysteresis, and the device retained 80% of its initial PCE, over a period of 20 days of storage under ambient conditions.

Abstract:Perovskite solar cells (PSCs) as an emerging photovoltaic technique have achieved exceptional power conversion efficiency (PCE) up to 25.7% after fast development over the past decade. But currently some critical issues are still not well addressed in terms of realizing large-scale fabrication, for example, fast fabrication of high-quality perovskite film with good stability. Here, we demonstrate the use of stable and fast-crystallizing low-dimensional (LD) perovskite thin films as the light absorber with only a 10 s annealing time at 250 °C, delivering a PCE of 18.16%. The crystallization and photoelectric properties of LD perovskite are well illustrated. The reduction in the annealing time will dramatically increase the productivity of PSCs. The PSCs based on rapidly annealed LD perovskite thin films exhibit excellent stability, with only 12% loss of PCE after 1000 h storage at 85 °C and 40–70% relative humidity.

Abstract:High-efficiency organic inorganic hybrid perovskite solar cells have experienced rapid development and attracted significant attention in recent years. Crystal growth as an important factor would significantly influence the quality of perovskite films and ultimately the device performance, which usually requires thermal annealing for 10 min or more. Herein, we demonstrate a new method to get high crystallization of perovskite film by electric current annealing for just 5 s. In contrast to conventional thermal annealing, a homogeneous perovskite film was formed with larger grains and fewer pinholes, leading to a better performance of the device with higher open-circtlit voltage and fill factor. An average power conversion efficiency of 17.02% with electric current annealing was obtained, which is higher than that of devices with a conventional thermal annealing process (16.05%). This facile electric current annealing process with legs energy loss and time consumption shows great potential in the industrial mass production of photovoltaic devices.

Abstract:Metal halide perovskite solar cells have achieved tremendous progress and have attracted enormous research and development efforts since the first report of demonstration in 2009. Due to fabrication versatility, many heat treatment methods can be utilized to achieve perovskite film crystallization. Herein, 10.6 µm carbon dioxide laser process is successfully developed for the first time for perovskite film crystallization. In addition, this is the first time formamidinium lead triiodide solar cells by laser annealing under ambient are demonstrated. The champion cell produces a power conversion efficiency of 21.8%, the highest for laser-annealed perovskite cells. And this is achieved without any additive, passivation, or post-treatment.

Abstract:Transparent conductive electrodes are important components of perovskite solar cells (PSCs) and their carrier transport capabilities directly affect the power conversion efficiency (PCE) of PSCs. Despite the excellent photoelectric performance of commercialized Fluorine-doped Tin Oxide (FTO), its poor wettability reduces the quality of the electron transporting layer (ETL) thin film, thereby affecting the charge carrier transfer efficiency in PSC. To further optimize the performance of FTO films, we propose a femtosecond laser annealing(fs-LA) technique to successfully allow OH- ions to replace F- ions on the surface, thereby improving optoelectronic performance and enhancing surface hydrophilicity. These enhancements effectively decrease non-radiative recombination at the interface and enhance carrier transport capabilities. PSCs based on FTO films treated by the fs-LA technique achieve a PCE of 22.33%. This result provides a reference for the performance optimization of transparent conductive oxide (TCO) films.

Abstract:Crystalline, dense, and uniform perovskite thin films are crucial for achieving high‐power conversion efficiency solar cells. Herein, a universal method of fabricating highly crystalline and large‐grain perovskite films via crystal engineering is demonstrated. Anion exchange of Cl− and I−, and annealing perovskite films, in an ultraconfined and uniform temperature enclosed space with saturated MAI (or FAI) vapor using hot‐pressing sublimation technology are conducted. This process ensures a rapid crystal growth rate due to fast exchange between the gas phase and the crystalline film to reduce vertically oriented grain boundaries. The generation of the commonly observed PbI2 phase is also suppressed due to the chemical equilibrium state during the thermal annealing process. Using this approach, pinhole‐free perovskite films with preferred crystal orientation and micrometer‐scale grains are obtained, leading to a high steady‐state efficiency of 22.15% based on mixed‐cation perovskite composition. In addition, devices based on different perovskite compositions all exhibit enhanced photovoltaic performance based on the crystal engineering method. The device (without encapsulation) has an efficiency loss of about only 4% after 2520 h of aging in ambient conditions and retains 87% of its initial efficiency after 1000 h of continuous 1 Sun light soaking, thus demonstrating considerably improved stability. A universal crystal engineering method based on anion exchange is proposed and developed to grow crystalline perovskite thin films. Highly crystalline perovskite films with preferred crystal orientation and micrometer‐scale grains are presented via annealing perovskite films in saturated MAI vapor. Perovskite solar cells based on crystal engineering show improved efficiency from 21.07% to 22.26%.

Abstract:The achievement of high‐performance solar cell production hinges on the development of a reliable and effective approach for perovskite crystallization that is compatible with rapid and continuous processing on large substrates. In this study, we present a pressure‐assisted fast crystallization technique that reduces the thermal annealing period to less than two minutes and achieves the impressive formation of micrometer‐sized vertical‐monolithic perovskite crystals. The pressure‐assisted technique provides confined space and pressure, where the confined space hinders the volatilization of residual solvents and enhances the Ostwald ripening effect. The presence of pressure provides internal energy for crystal growth, while the presence of solvent molecules also accelerates solute diffusion. These factors collectively contribute to the rapid growth of grains. Our results demonstrate that this pressure‐assisted fast crystallization strategy significantly enhances the power conversion efficiency (PCE) of both n‐i‐p and p‐i‐n perovskite solar cells (PSCs), achieving PCEs of 22.80% and 24.69%, respectively. The improvement in PCE can be attributed to the reduced number of grain boundaries, minimized interfacial defects, and enhanced surface crystalline quality. Importantly, this approach is universal and highly reproducible for solution‐processed manufacturing methods. We anticipate that this efficient, reliable, and reproducible technique will accelerate the commercialization of PSCs. This article is protected by copyright. All rights reserved.

Abstract:Generally, residual solvent is embedded in perovskite precursor films fabricated from the Lewis adduct method. Most of the research focus on the ligand function of the solvent in forming a solvate complex for fabricating high quality perovskite films. However, little attention has been paid to the latent function of the solvent in the perovskite precursor films during the annealing process due to its fast extravasation at high temperature. Here, we develop a sandwich configuration of substrate/perovskite precursor films/PC61BM to retard the extravasation of solvent during annealing. We find that the restrained solvent induces an obvious solvent-mediated dissolution-recrystallization process, leading to high quality perovskite films with large columnar grains. There is mass transportation from small grains to large grains in the dissolution-recrystallization process, which follows the Ostwald ripening model. Inverted planar solar cells are fabricated on the basis of this annealing method. The photovoltaic performance of the solar cells is improved significantly due to its high quality perovskite films with large columnar grains.
Fast-Growing Procedure for Perovskite Films in Planar Heterojunction Perovskite Solar Cells

Abstract:A fast-growing procedure (FGP) to fabricate perovskite films with large grain sizes is described in this article. In the FGP method, the perovskite precursor solution is coated onto the substrates at a temperature of similar to 240 degrees C. The solvent in the precursor solution evaporates quickly in about 2 s, resulting in the rapid formation of a perovskite film without further annealing process. Millimeter-scale perovskite grain clusters are obtained in the film. Based on such perovskite films, fabricated planar heterojunction perovskite solar cells give a power conversion efficiency (PCE) above 8%. Abstract:Organo-metal halide perovskites have suffered undesirably from structural and thermal instabilities. Moreover, thermal annealing is often indispensable to the crystallization of perovskites and removal of residual solvents, which is unsuitable for scalable fabrication of flexible solar modules. Herein, we demonstrate the non-thermal annealing fabrication of a novel type of air-stable triple-cation mixed-halide perovskites, FA0.7MA0.2Cs0.1Pb(I5/6Br1/6)3 (FMC) by incorporation of Pb(SCN)2 additive. It is found that adding Pb(SCN)2 functions the same as thermal annealing process by not only improving the crystallinity and optical absorption of perovskites, but also hindering the formation of morphological defects and non-radiative recombination. Furthermore, such Pb(SCN)2-treated FMC unannealed films present micrometer-sized crystal grains and remarkably high moisture stability. Planar solar cells built upon these unannealed films exhibit a high PCE of 14.09% with significantly suppressed hysteresis phenomenon compared to those of thermal annealing. The corresponding room-temperature fabricated flexible solar cell shows an impressive PCE of 10.55%. This work offers a new avenue to low-temperature fabrication of air-stable, flexible and high-efficiency perovskite solar cells.

Abstract:Perovskite materials have attracted widely interest in the study of their physical mechanisms and applications due to variable special structures, a wide variety of organic-inorganic compounds, and excellent photoelectric properties such as high carrier mobility and high quantum luminescence efficiency. Ultrafast laser with the characteristics of ultrafast and ultrastrong has been another research hotspot in recent years. Ultrafast laser processing mainly relies on cold processing, and the perovskite devices prepared by this method have the characteristics of small heat affected zone, superior performance, and good stability. In this paper, the latest studies in the processing of perovskite materials by ultrafast laser are reviewed, divided into two parts: (i) the interaction of ultrafast laser with perovskite materials and the changes of perovskite physical properties irradiated by ultrafast laser; (ii) the ultrafast laser-assisted perovskite-based devices for luminescence, storing optical information, converting optical signals, optical imaging. Finally, the development, application and industrialization of perovskite materials in the field of optoelectronics are prospected.

Abstract:The 2D/3D perovskite heterostructures have been widely investigated to enhance the efficiency and stability of perovskite solar cells (PSCs). However, rational manipulation of phase distribution and energy level alignment in such 2D/3D perovskite hybrids are still of great challenge. Herein, we successfully achieved spontaneous phase alignment of 2D/3D perovskite heterostructures by concurrently introducing both 2D perovskite component and organic halide additive. The graded phase distribution of 2D perovskites with different n values and 3D perovskites induced favorable energy band alignment across the perovskite film and boosted the charge transfer at the relevant heterointerfaces. Moreover, the 2D perovskite component also acted as a "band-aid" to simultaneously passivate the defects and release the residual tensile stress of perovskite films. Encouragingly, the blade-coated PSCs based on only ~2s in-situ flash annealed 2D/3D perovskite films with favorable energy funnels and toughened heterointerfaces achieved promising efficiencies of 22.5%, accompanied by extended lifespan. To our knowledge, this is the highest reported efficiency for the PSCs fabricated with energy-saved thermal treatment just within a few seconds, which also outperformed those state-of-the-art annealing-free analogues. Such two-seconds in-situ annealing technique could save the energy cost by up to 99.6% during device fabrication, which will grant its low-coast implementation.
Proper Annealing Process for a Cost Effective and Superhydrophobic Ambient-Atmosphere Fabricated Perovskite Solar Cell

Abstract:The conversion efficiency of perovskite solar cells has increased rapidly in recent years, however, the balance between sustainability, efficiency and cost has become a serious challenge on the way to a competitive commercial product. Currently, ongoing research is strongly focused on how to effectively combine those issues together. In this work, the sustainability and efficiency were shown to be improved by using a simple low-cost fabrication process: with a single electron transporting layer with low-temperature heat treatment (160 degrees C), a single-step perovskite layer (Cs(0.17)FA(0.)(83)Pb(I(0.)(83)Br0.17)(3)) fabricated and annealed in air atmosphere, and low-cost imprinted carbon as the upper electrode. The annealing process of the active layer was studied to improve crystallinity and achieve the best grain boundary self-passivation under these conditions. Moreover, to develop sustainability, an easy-to-use superhydrophobic layer with a contact angle of similar to 160 degrees was successfully deposited using an invented method. Morphology, crystallization, and optoelectronic properties of the devices were investigated using various measurement methods. It was found that a 15-min annealing at 130 degrees C is required to obtain an appropriate self-induced passivation layer of PbI2 and a high-performance crystallized active layer with the lowest defect density. An optimum energy conversion efficiency of 17.34% was achieved with FF, V-OC and J(SC) values of 76.43%, 1.04 V, and 21.67 mA cm(-2), respectively. It is hoped that these results will provide new perspectives for the commercialization of perovskite solar cells.

Abstract:Vacuum-assisted technology, favored for its low cost, environmental friendly nature, and scalability, is widely used in perovskite solar cells and is a preferred choice for commercialized production. However, strong solvent extraction at the interface between the wet film and the vacuum causes a thin perovskite film at the top surface and a residual solvent at the buried interface, which results in film stratification and buried voids. Consequently, the efficiency of vacuum-assisted Sn–Pb perovskite solar cells remains below 20%. Herein, we propose a light radiation annealing technique with rapid top-down heating to achieve unidirectional nucleation and growth, which effectively suppresses film stratification and buried voids. This approach yields Sn–Pb perovskite films with a more uniform composition and fewer defects. Based on the optimized films, we achieve a record efficiency of 22.31% among all the vacuum-assisted Sn–Pb perovskite solar cells. Moreover, we obtain an impressive efficiency of 27.62% for all-perovskite tandem solar cells.
