Abstract:We consider the matrix spherical function related to the compact symmetric pair $(G,K)=(\mathrm{SU}(n+m),\mathrm{S}(\mathrm{U}(n)\times\mathrm{U}(m)))$. The irreducible $K$ representations $(\pi,V)$ in the ${\rm U}(n)$ part are considered and the induced representation $\mathrm{Ind}_K^G\pi$ splits multiplicity free. In this case, the irreducible $K$ representations in the ${\rm U}(n)$ part are studied. The corresponding spherical functions can be approximated in terms of the simpler matrix-valued functions. We can determine the explicit spherical functions using the action of a differential operator. We consider several cases of irreducible $K$ representations and the orthogonality relations are also described.

Abstract:Our main goal here is to provide an introduction on some of the well established properties of the representation theory of SO(d+1,1), for those considering to think on physical problems set in de Sitter space in terms of these representations. With this purpose we review two intertwining maps, the map G that is used in constructing a well defined inner product for the complementary series representations and the map Q that is involved in constructing composite representations. We give explicit examples from the late-time boundary of de Sitter on the practical use of the complementary series inner product and in building a tensor product representation from unitary principal series irreducible representations.

Abstract:This paper builds on our previous work in which we showed that, for all connected semisimple linear Lie groups G acting on a non-compactly causal symmetric space M=G/H , every irreducible unitary representation of G can be realized by boundary value maps of holomorphic extensions in distributional sections of a vector bundle over M . In the present paper we discuss this procedure for the connected Lorentz group G=SO1,d(R)e acting on de Sitter space M=dSd . We show in particular that the previously constructed nets of real subspaces satisfy the locality condition. Following ideas of Bros and Moschella from the 1990's, we show that the matrix-valued spherical function that corresponds to our extension process extends analytically to a large domain GCcut in the complexified group GC=SO1,d(C) , which for d=1 specializes to the complex cut plane C∖(−∞,0] . A number of special situations is discussed specifically: (a) The case d=1 , which closely corresponds to standard subspaces in Hilbert spaces, (b) the case of scalar-valued functions, which for d>2 is the case of spherical representations, for which we also describe the jump singularities of the holomorphic extensions on the cut in de Sitter space, (c) the case d=3 , where we obtain rather explicit formulas for the matrix-valued spherical functions.

Abstract:Holomorphic representations are lowest weight representations for simple Lie groups of Hermitian type and have been studied extensively. Inspired by the work of Kobayashi on discrete series for indefinite Stiefel manifolds, Gross-Wallach on quaternonic discrete series and their analytic continuation, and Orsted-Wolf on Borel-de Siebenthal discrete series, we define and study Borel-de Siebenthal representations (also called quasi-holomorphic representations) associated with Borel-de Siebenthal root systems for simple Lie groups of non-Hermitian type.

Abstract:We consider a category of continuous Hilbert space representations and a category of smooth Frechet representations, of a real Jacobi group $G$. By Mackey's theory, they are respectively equivalent to certain categories of representations of a real reductive group $\widetilde L$. Within these categories, we show that the two functors of taking smooth vectors for $G$, and for $\widetilde L$, are consistent with each other. By using Casselman-Wallach's theory of smooth representations of real reductive groups, we define matrix coefficients for distributional vectors of certain representations of $G$. We also formulate Gelfand-Kazhdan criteria for Jacobi groups which could be used to prove the multiplicity one theorem for Fourier-Jacobi models.
The de Sitter group and its representations: a window on the notion of de Sitterian elementary systems

Abstract:We review the construction of ("free") elementary systems in de Sitter (dS) spacetime, in the Wigner sense, as associated with unitary irreducible representations (UIR's) of the dS (relativity) group. This study emphasizes the conceptual issues arising in the formulation of such systems and discusses known results in a mathematically rigorous way. Particular attention is paid to: "smooth" transition from classical to quantum theory; physical content under vanishing curvature, from the point of view of a local ("tangent") Minkowskian observer; and thermal interpretation (on the quantum level), in the sense of the Gibbons-Hawking temperature. We review three decompositions of the dS group physically relevant for the description of dS spacetime and classical phase spaces of elementary systems living on it. We review the construction of (projective) dS UIR's issued from these group decompositions. (Projective) Hilbert spaces carrying the UIR's (in some restricted sense) identify quantum ("one-particle") states spaces of dS elementary systems. Adopting a well-established Fock procedure, based on the Wightman-Gärding axioms and on analyticity requirements in the complexified Riemannian manifold, we proceed with a consistent quantum field theory (QFT) formulation of elementary systems in dS spacetime. This dS QFT formulation closely parallels the corresponding Minkowskian one, while the usual spectral condition is replaced by a certain geometric Kubo-Martin-Schwinger (KMS) condition equivalent to a precise thermal manifestation of the associated "vacuum" states.

Abstract:Given a connected real Lie group and a contractible homogeneous proper G–space X furnished with a G–invariant volume form, a real valued volume can be assigned to any representation ρπ_1(M)→ G for any oriented closed smooth manifold M of the same dimension as X. Suppose that G contains a closed and cocompact semisimple subgroup, it is shown in this paper that the set of volumes is finite for any given M. From a perspective of model geometries, examples are investigated and applications with mapping degrees are discussed.
Searching for discrete series representations at the late-time boundary of de Sitter

Abstract:The group $SO(d+1,1)$ makes an appearance both as the conformal group of Euclidean space in $d$ dimensions and as the isometry group of de Sitter spacetime in $d+1$ dimensions. While this common feature can be taken as a hint towards holography on de Sitter space, understanding the representation theory has importance for cosmological applications where de Sitter spacetime is relevant. Among the categories of $SO(d+1,1)$ unitary irreducible representations, discrete series is important in physical applications because they are expected to capture gauge fields. However, they are also the most difficult ones to recognize in field theoretical examples compared to representations from the other categories. Here we point towards some examples where we are able to recognize discrete series representations from fields on de Sitter and highlight some of the properties of these representations.

Abstract:We investigate the space $X$ of unitary hermitian matrices over $\frp$-adic fields through spherical functions. First we consider Cartan decomposition of $X$, and give precise representatives for fields with odd residual characteristic, i.e., $2\notin \frp$. In the latter half we assume odd residual characteristic, and give explicit formulas of typical spherical functions on $X$, where Hall-Littlewood symmetric polynomials of type $C_n$ appear as a main term, parametrization of all the spherical functions. By spherical Fourier transform, we show the Schwartz space $\SKX$ is a free Hecke algebra $\hec$-module of rank $2^n$, where $2n$ is the size of matrices in $X$, and give the explicit Plancherel formula on $\SKX$.

Abstract:We study two-point functions of symmetric traceless local operators in the bulk of de Sitter spacetime. We derive the Källén-Lehmann spectral decomposition for any spin and show that unitarity implies its spectral densities are nonnegative. In addition, we recover the Källén-Lehmann decomposition in Minkowski space by taking the flat space limit. Using harmonic analysis and the Wick rotation to Euclidean Anti de Sitter, we derive an inversion formula to compute the spectral densities. Using the inversion formula, we relate the analytic structure of the spectral densities to the late-time boundary operator content. We apply our technical tools to study two-point functions of composite operators in free and weakly coupled theories. In the weakly coupled case, we show how the Källén-Lehmann decomposition is useful to find the anomalous dimensions of the late-time boundary operators. We also derive the Källén-Lehmann representation of two-point functions of spinning primary operators of a Conformal Field Theory on de Sitter.

Abstract:Let v be the right regular representation of a compact quantum group G. Then (<a class="link-external link-http" href="http://S.L.Woronowicz" rel="external noopener nofollow">this http URL</a>, "Compact quantum groups") v contains all irreducible representations of G and each irreducible representation enters v with the multiplicity equal to its dimension. The result is certainly known for classical compact groups. We give a short survey on the subject and provide a different proof of Woronowicz's result above. The proof is an adaptation of the corresponding result for classical compact groups and provides a concrete decomposition of the right regular representation in irreducible components.

Explicit Hilbert spaces for the unitary dual of rank one orthogonal groups and applications

Abstract:We realize all irreducible unitary representations of the group $\mathrm{SO}_0(n+1,1)$ on explicit Hilbert spaces of vector-valued $L^2$-functions on $\mathbb{R}^n\setminus\{0\}$. The key ingredient in our construction is an explicit expression for the standard Knapp-Stein intertwining operators between arbitrary principal series representations in terms of the Euclidean Fourier transform on a maximal unipotent subgroup isomorphic to $\mathbb{R}^n$. As an application, we describe the space of Whittaker vectors on all irreducible Casselman-Wallach representations. Moreover, the new realizations of the irreducible unitary representations immediately reveal their decomposition into irreducible representations of a parabolic subgroup, thus providing a simple proof of a recent result of Liu-Oshima-Yu.

With an isomorphic relationship to the two-fold covering of SO$_0(2,3)$ (Sp$(4,\mathbb{R}) \sim$ SO$_0(2,3)\times \mathbb{Z}_2$), this group holds particular importance as the kinematical/relativity group within the framework of ($1+3$-dimensional) anti-de Sitter spacetime.

On kernels of homological representations of mapping class groups

Abstract:We study the kernels of representations of mapping class groups of surfaces on twisted homologies of configuration spaces. We relate them with the kernel of a natural twisted intersection pairing: if the latter kernel is trivial then the representation is faithful. As a main example, we study the representations $\rho_{n}$ of $\mathrm{Mod}(\Sigma_{g,1})$ based on a Heisenberg local system on the $n$ points configuration space of $\Sigma_{g,1}$, introduced by Blanchet--Palmer--Shaukat, and some of their specializations. In the one point configuration case, or when the Heisenberg group is quotiented by an element of its center, we find kernel elements in the twisted intersection form. On the other hand, for $n>2$ configuration points and the full Heisenberg local system, we identify subrepresentations of subgroups of $\mathrm{Mod}(\Sigma_{g,1})$ with Lawrence representations. In particular, we find one of these subgroups, which is isomorphic to a pure braid group on $g$ strands, on which the representations $\rho_n$ are faithful.

Abstract:A spherical distribution is an eigendistribution of the Laplace-Beltrami operator with certain invariance on the de Sitter space. Let G'=O(1,n;R) be the Lorentz group and H' = O(1,n-1;R) be its subgroup. The authors Olafsson and Sitiraju have constructed the spherical distributions, which are $H'$-invariant, as boundary values of some sesquiholomorphic kernels. In this survey article we will explore the connections of these kernels with reflection positivity and representations of the group G = SO(1,n;R)_e, which is the connected component of the Lorentz group. We will also discuss the singularities of spherical distributions in terms of their wavefront set.
