Abstract:We derive Mok-Siu-Yeung type formulas for horizontal maps from compact contact locally sub-symmetric spaces into strictly pseudoconvex CR manifolds and we obtain some rigidity theorems for the horizontal pseudoharmonic maps.

Abstract:We construct the CR invariant canonical contact form can( J ) on scalar positive spherical CR manifold ( M , J ), which is the CR analogue of canonical metric on locally conformally flat manifold constructed by Habermann and Jost. We also construct another canonical contact form on the Kleinian manifold Ω(Γ)/Γ, where Γ is a convex cocompact subgroup of Aut CR S 2 n +1 = PU ( n +1,1) and Ω(Γ) is the discontinuity domain of Γ. This contact form can be used to prove that Ω(Γ)/Γ is scalar positive (respectively, scalar negative, or scalar vanishing) if and only if the critical exponent δ(Γ)< n (respectively, δ(Γ)> n , or δ(Γ)= n ). This generalizes Nayatani’s result for convex cocompact subgroups of SO ( n +1,1). We also discuss the connected sum of spherical CR manifolds.

Abstract:In this paper, we introduce a horizontal energy functional for maps from a Riemannian manifold to a pseudo-Hermitian manifold. The critical maps of this functional will be called CC-harmonic maps. Under suitable curvature conditions on the domain manifold, some Liouville-type theorems are established for CC-harmonic maps from a complete Riemannian manifold to a pseudo-Hermitian manifold by assuming either growth conditions of the horizontal energy or an asymptotic condition at the infinity for the maps.

Abstract:We prove some Liouville type results for generalized holomorphic maps in three classes: maps from pseudo-Hermitian manifolds to almost Hermitian manifolds, maps from almost Hermitian manifolds to pseudo-Hermitian manifolds and maps from pseudo-Hermitian manifolds to pseudo-Hermitian manifolds, assuming that the domains are compact. For instance, we show that any $(J,J^N)$ holomorphic map from a compact pseudo-Hermitian manifold $M$ with nonnegative (resp. positive) pseudo-Hermitian sectional curvature to an almost Hermitian manifold $N$ with negative (resp. nonpositive) holomorphic sectional curvature is constant. We also construct explicit almost CR structures on a complex vector bundle over an almost CR manifold.

Abstract:We study analytic properties of harmonic maps from Riemannian polyhedra into CAT($\kappa$) spaces for $\kappa\in\{0,1\}$. Locally, on each top-dimensional face of the domain, this amounts to studying harmonic maps from smooth domains into CAT($\kappa$) spaces. We compute a target variation formula that captures the curvature bound in the target, and use it to prove an $L^p$ Liouville-type theorem for harmonic maps from admissible polyhedra into convex CAT($\kappa$) spaces. Another consequence we derive from the target variation formula is the Eells-Sampson Bochner formula for CAT(1) targets.

Abstract:We show that quasiconformal mappings on strongly pseudoconvex hypersurfaces satisfy a system of Beltrami equations. In particular, the 1-quasiconformal mappings on these surfaces are CR or anti-CR mappings. Furthermore, if these surfaces are also real-analytic and nonspherical, then 1-quasiconformal mappings on them, which fix a point, can be linearized.

Abstract:Let M be an n-dimensional compact submanifold in the simply connected space form Fn+p(c) with c+H-2 > 0. We verify that if the sectional curvature of M satisfies K-M > n-2/n+2c + n(2)H(2)/8(n+2), then M is diffeomorphic to a spherical space form. Moreover, we show that if M is an oriented compact submanifold in Fn+p(c) with c >= 0, and if n not equal 3, 5, K-M > n-2/n+2c +n(2)H(2)/8(n+2), then M is diffeomorphic to the standard n-sphere. It should be emphasized that our results are optimal for n = 4.

Abstract:Contact Riemannian manifolds, with not necessarily integrable complex structures, are the generalization of pseudohermitian manifolds in CR geometry. The Tanaka–Webster–Tanno connection on such a manifold plays the role of Tanaka–Webster connection in the pseudohermitian case. We prove the contact Riemannian version of the pseudohermitian Bochner-type formula, and generalize the CR Lichnerowicz theorem about the sharp lower bound for the first nonzero eigenvalue of the sub-Laplacian to the contact Riemannian case.

Abstract:We show the generalization of Hsiung-Minkowski integral formula for anisotropic capillary hypersurfaces in the half-space, which includes the weighted Hsiung-Minkowski formula and classical anisotropic Minkowski identity for closed hypersurfaces as special cases. As applications, we prove some anisotropic Alexandrov-type theorems and rigidity results for anisotropic capillary hypersurfaces. Specially, the uniqueness of the solution to the anisotropic Orlicz-Christoffel-Minkowski problem is obtained.

Abstract:We determine a Simons' type formula for spacelike submanifolds within a broad class of semiRiemannian warped products. This formula extends the Simons' type formulas initially introduced by Nomizu and Smyth in 1969 for constant mean curvature hypersurfaces in space forms. Furthermore, it incorporates the 2013 extension by Fetcu and Rosenberg for submanifolds with parallel mean curvature vector field in product spaces. From a global standpoint, we establish that compact spacelike hypersurfaces with parallel mean curvature and non-negative sectional curvature are isoparametric hypersurfaces. This result constitutes a generalization of the Riemannian case within space forms, as demonstrated by Nomizu and Smyth. From a local standpoint, we extend analogous results previously established by Asperti, Lobos and Mercuri for pseudo-parallel immersions in Riemannian space forms. As consequences, we prove that any semi-parallel spacelike hypersurface with zero mean curvature in the de Sitter spacetime is totally geodesic. In contrast, there is no semi-parallel spacelike hypersurface with zero mean curvature in the Einstein-de Sitter spacetime.

Abstract:In this paper we establish a Gaffney type inequality, in $W^{\ell,p}$-Sobolev spaces, for differential forms on sub-Riemannian contact manifolds without boundary, having bounded geometry (hence, in particular, we have in mind non-compact manifolds). Here $p\in]1,\infty[$ and $\ell=1,2$ depending on the order of the differential form we are considering. The proof relies on the structure of the Rumin's complex of differential forms in contact manifolds, on a Sobolev-Gaffney inequality proved by Baldi-Franchi in the setting of the Heisenberg groups and on some geometric properties that can be proved for sub-Riemannian contact manifolds with bounded geometry.

On Gauss-Bonnet type formulas for mappings between surfaces with boundary and their applications

Abstract:We define singular points of the first kind and singular points of the second kind as singular points of mappings between surfaces. Typical examples of these singular points are fold singular points and cusp singular points, respectively. We can construct coherent tangent bundles, which are natural intrinsic formulations of wave fronts, by using mappings between surfaces. It is known that two types of Gauss-Bonnet type formulas hold for coherent tangent bundles over surfaces (possibly with boundary). Hence, we obtain two Gauss-Bonnet type formulas for mappings between surfaces (possibly with boundary). By applying these Gauss-Bonnet type formulas, we prove the Levine formula that relates the rotation indices to the Euler characteristic, and the Quine-Fukuda-Ishikawa formula that relates the mapping degree to the Euler characteristic and the number of singular points.

Abstract:The classical Minkowski formula is extended to spacelike codimension-two submanifolds in spacetimes which admit "hidden symmetry" from conformal Killing-Yano two-forms. As an application, we obtain an Alexandrov type theorem for spacelike codimension-two submanifolds in a static spherically symmetric spacetime: a codimension-two submanifold with constant normalized null expansion (null mean curvature) must lie in a shear-free (umbilical) null hypersurface. These results are generalized for higher order curvature invariants. In particular, the notion of mixed higher order mean curvature is introduced to highlight the special null geometry of the submanifold. Finally, Alexandrov type theorems are established for spacelike submanifolds with constant mixed higher order mean curvature, which are generalizations of hypersurfaces of constant Weingarten curvature in the Euclidean space.

Abstract:In this paper, we consider some generalized holomorphic maps between pseudo-Hermitian manifolds and Hermitian manifolds. By Bochner formulas and comparison theorems, we establish related Schwarz-type results. As corollaries, the Liouville theorem and little Picard theorem for basic CR functions are deduced. Finally, we study CR Caratheodory pseudo-distance on CR manifolds.

Abstract:In this paper, we study $(\mathcal F,\mathcal F')_{p}$-harmonic maps between foliated Riemannian manifolds $(M,g,\mathcal F)$ and $(M',g',\mathcal F')$. A $(\mathcal F,\mathcal F')_{p}$-harmonic map $\phi:(M,g,\mathcal F)\to (M', g',\mathcal F')$ is a critical point of the transversal $p$-energy functional $E_{B,p}$. Trivially, $(\mathcal F,\mathcal F')_2$-harmonic map is $(\mathcal F,\mathcal F')$-harmonic map, which is a critical point of $E_B$. There is another definition of a harmonic map on foliated Riemannian manifolds, called transversally harmonic map, which is a solution of the Euler-Largrange equation $\tau_b(\phi)=0$. Two definitions are not equivalent, but if $\mathcal F$ is minimal, then two definitons are equivalent. Firstly, we give the first and second variational formulas for $(\mathcal F,\mathcal F')_{p}$-harmonic maps. Next, we investigate the generalized Weitzenb\"ock type formula and the Liouville type theorem for $(\mathcal F,\mathcal F')_{p}$-harmonic map.

Abstract:Harmonic morphisms are maps between Riemannian manifolds that pull back harmonic functions to harmonic functions. These maps are characterized as horizontally weakly conformal harmonic maps and they have many interesting links and applications to several areas in mathematics (see the book by Baird and Wood for details). In this paper, we study generalized harmonic morphisms which are defined to be maps between Riemannian manifolds that pull back harmonic functions to biharmonic functions. We obtain some characterizations of generalized harmonic morphisms into a Euclidean space and give two methods of constructions that can be used to produce many examples of generalized harmonic morphisms which are not harmonic morphisms. We also give a complete classification of generalized harmonic morphisms among the projections of a warped product space, which provides infinitely many examples of proper biharmonic Riemannian submersions and conformal submersions from a warped product manifold.
