Abstract:In this paper, we give some rigidity results for both harmonic and pseudoharmonic maps from CR manifolds into Riemannian manifolds or Kahler manifolds. Some basicity, pluriharmonicity and Siu-Sampson type results are established for both harmonic maps and pseudoharmonic maps.

Abstract:In this paper, we study the existence of various harmonic maps from Hermitian manifolds to Kaehler, Hermitian and Riemannian manifolds respectively. By using refined Bochner formulas on Hermitian (possibly non-Kaehler) manifolds, we derive new rigidity results on Hermitian harmonic maps from compact Hermitian manifolds to Riemannian manifolds, and we also obtain the complex analyticity of pluri-harmonic maps from compact complex manifolds to compact Kaehler manifolds (and Riemannian manifolds) with non-degenerate curvatures, which are analogous to several fundamental results in [28,Siu], [14,Jost-Yau] and [26, Sampson].

Abstract:By simplifying the first and the second variation formulas of the energy functional and generalizing the Weitzenbock formula, we study the stability and the rigidity of harmonic maps between Finsler manifolds. It is proved that any nondegenerate harmonic map from a compact Einstein Riemannian manifold with nonnegative scalar curvature to a Berwald manifold with nonpositive flag curvature is totally geodesic and there is no nondegenerate stable harmonic map from a Riemannian unit sphere S-n (n > 2) to any Finsler manifold.

Abstract:This paper is to study further some properties of harmonic maps between Finsler manifolds. Some rigidity theorems for harmonic maps between Finsler manifolds are given. By introducing the stress-energy tensor of maps between Finsler manifolds, some integral formulas are obtained. Moreover, it is proved that any conformal strongly harmonic map from an n(>2)-dimensional Finsler manifold to a Finsler manifold must be homothetic.

Abstract:We derive the variation formula of the partial derivative-energy and of the partial derivative-energy for a smooth map from a complex Finsler manifold to an Hermitian manifold. Applying the result on a nonlinear elliptic system due to J. Jost and S. T. Yau, we obtain some existence theorems of harmonic maps from strongly Kahler Finsler manifolds to Kahler manifolds. Also, for such maps, we show that the difference between partial derivative-energy and partial derivative-energy is a homotopy invariant.

Abstract:In this paper, we introduce a horizontal energy functional for maps from a Riemannian manifold to a pseudo-Hermitian manifold. The critical maps of this functional will be called CC-harmonic maps. Under suitable curvature conditions on the domain manifold, some Liouville-type theorems are established for CC-harmonic maps from a complete Riemannian manifold to a pseudo-Hermitian manifold by assuming either growth conditions of the horizontal energy or an asymptotic condition at the infinity for the maps.

Abstract:In this paper, we give an estimate of sub-Laplacian of Riemannian distance functions in pseudo-Hermitian geometry which plays a similar role as Laplacian comparison theorem in Riemannian geometry, and deduce a prior horizontal gradient estimate of pseudo-harmonic maps from pseudo-Hermitian manifolds to regular balls of Riemannian manifolds. As an application, Liouville theorem is established under the conditions of nonnegative pseudo-Hermitian Ricci curvature and vanishing pseudo-Hermitian torsion. Moreover, we obtain the existence of pseudo-harmonic maps from complete noncompact pseudo-Hermitian manifolds to regular balls of Riemannian manifolds.

Abstract:In this paper, we show that every harmonic map from a compact Kähler manifold with uniformly RC-positive curvature to a Riemannian manifold with non-positive complex sectional curvature is constant. In particular, there is no non-constant harmonic map from a compact Kähler manifold with positive holomorphic sectional curvature to a Riemannian manifold with non-positive complex sectional curvature.

Abstract:Let (phi, psi) be a Dirac-harmonic maps from a Riemannian manifold into another Riemannian manifold We call (phi, psi) trivial if phi is harmonic By using Bochner-type formula and extending Chen-Jost-Li-Wang' result, we give some sufficient conditions for a Dirac-harmonic map (phi, psi) to be trivial. We also give a structure theorem of Dirac-harmonic maps from a Riemann surface generalizing result previously only known in the case when source manifold is a two sphere.

Abstract:We develop the notion of renormalized energy in Cauchy–Riemann (CR) geometry for maps from a strictly pseudoconvex pseudo-Hermitian manifold to a Riemannian manifold. This energy is a CR invariant functional whose critical points, which we call CR-harmonic maps, satisfy a CR covariant partial differential equation. The corresponding operator coincides on functions with the CR Paneitz operator.

Abstract: Harmonic maps are nonlinear extensions of harmonic functions. They are critical points of natural energy functionals between Riemannian manifolds. Such type of problems appear in Physics, Geometry of Finance and the study of regularity and singularity uses methods from elliptic PDE, calculus of variations and geometric measure theory. In this paper, we present a general review of harmonic maps. It is a survey that aims to cover the main classical known results regarding the harmonic maps. We present results for the regularity, blow-ups and rectifiability for local minimizers, stationary harmonic maps and weakly harmonic maps.

Abstract:In this paper, we consider the existence of harmonic maps from a Finsler manifold and study the characterisation of harmonic maps, in the spirit of Ishihara. Using heat equation method we show that any map from a compact Finsler manifold M to a compact Riemannian manifold with non-positive sectional curvature can be deformed into a harmonic map which has minimum energy in its homotopy class.

Abstract: In this paper, we derive the second variation formula of pseudoharmonic maps into any pseudo-Hermitian manifolds. When the target manifold is an isometric embedded CR manifold in complex Euclidean space or a pseudo-Hermitian immersed submanifold in Heisenberg group, we give some conditions on Weingarten maps to obtain some unstability of pseudoharmonic maps between these pseudo-Hermitian manifolds.

Abstract:Harmonic maps constitute a powerful tool for the analysis of moduli and Teichmuller spaces of compact Riemann surfaces. These moduli and Teichmuller spaces parametrize the different conformal structures a given compact differentiable surface F of some genus p can carry, together with a topological marking in the Teichmuller case. That is, each point in the moduli space Mp or the Teichmuller space Tp corresponds to some (marked) Riemann surface of genus p, that is, to some conformal structure on F . Mp then is a quotient of Tp by the mapping class group Γp, the group of homotopy classes of oriented diffeomorphisms of F . Since some nontrivial elements of Γp have fixed points, Mp acquires some quotient singularities. However, a suitable finite covering of Mp is free from singularities, that is, a manifold. Therefore, for many aspects, the singularities of Mp can be ignored, and this will sometimes simplify our discussion. – In this review, we shall confine ourselves mostly to the case p ≥ 2 which is the most difficult and most interesting case. Harmonic maps come from Riemannian geometry. They are defined as maps h : M → N between Riemannian manifolds that minimize a certain variational integral, called the energy. Thus, they depend on the Riemannian metrics of M and N . The theory works best when the metric of N has nonpositive sectional curvature. Harmonic maps can then be applied to moduli or Teichmuller spaces in two different ways. On one hand, one can look at harmonic maps to, from, or between Riemann surfaces and study how the harmonic maps or quantities associated to them, like their energy, depend on the underlying conformal structures. This is facilitated by the fact that the harmonic maps in question are unique in their homotopy classes, as we are looking at the case of genus p ≥ 2 which implies that the Riemann surfaces can be equipped with a hyperbolic metric, that is, one with constant negative curvature. Abstract:Motivated by the theory of harmonic maps on Riemannian surfaces, conformal-harmonic maps between two Riemannian manifolds $M$ and $N$ were introduced in search of a natural notion of harmonicity for maps defined on a general even dimensional Riemannian manifold $M$. They are critical points of a conformally invariant energy functional and reassemble the GJMS operators when the target is the set of real or complex numbers. On a four dimensional manifold, conformal-harmonic maps are the conformally invariant counterparts of the intrinsic bi-harmonic maps and a mapping version of the conformally invariant Paneitz operator for functions. In this paper, we consider conformal-harmonic maps from certain locally conformally flat 4-manifolds into spheres. We prove a quantitative uniqueness result for such conformal-harmonic maps as an immediate consequence of convexity for the conformally-invariant energy functional. To this end, we are led to prove a version of second order Hardy inequality on manifolds, which may be of independent interest.

Abstract:In this paper, we use the canonical connection instead of Levi-Civita connection to study the smooth maps between almost Hermitian manifolds, especially, the pseudoholomorphic ones. By using the Bochner formulas, we obtian the $C^2$-estimate of canonical second fundamental form, Liouville type theorems of pseudoholomorphic maps, pseudoholomorphicity of pluriharmonic maps, and Simons integral inequality of pseudoholomorphic isometric immersion.

Abstract:Motivated by a question of Tsai-Tsui-Wang, we consider the rigidity of map from manifolds with positive Ricci curvature to manifolds with positive sectional curvature. We show that if the Ricci curvature of the domain dominates that of the target, then distance non-increasing maps must be either Riemannian submersion or isometry. The rigidity result also holds on a wider class of manifolds with positive curvature and weaker contracting property on the map. This is based on a new long-time existence of harmonic map heat flow.
