Abstract:Bagderina \cite{Bagderina2013} solved the equivalence problem for a family of scalar second-order ordinary differential equations (ODEs), with cubic nonlinearity in the first-order derivative, via point transformations. However, the question is open for the general class $y''=f(x,y,y')$ which is not cubic in the first-order derivative. We utilize Lie's infinitesimal method to study the differential invariants of this general class under an arbitrary point equivalence transformations. All fifth order differential invariants and the invariant differentiation operators are determined. As an application, invariant description of all the canonical forms in the complex plane for second-order ODEs $y''=f(x,y,y')$ where both of the two Tress\'e relative invariants are non-zero is provided.

Abstract:We study second order linear homogeneous differential equations a(x)y'' + b(x)y' + c(x)y = 0 with analytic coefficients in a neighborhood of a regular singularity in the sense of Frobenius. These equations are model for a number of natural phenomena in sciences and applications in engineering. We address questions which can be divided in the following groups: (i) Regularity of solutions. (ii) Analytic classification of the differential equation. (iii) Formal and differentiable rigidity. (iv) Synthesis and uniqueness of ODEs with a prescribed solution. Our approach is inspired by elements from analytic theory of singularities and complex foliations, adapted to this framework. Our results also reinforce the connection between classical methods in second order analytic ODEs and (geometric) theory of singularities. Our results, though of a clear theoretical content, are important in justifying many procedures in the solution of such equations.

For every type the complete list of nonequivalent equations is issued. As the examples the equivalence problem for the Painleve II equation, Painleve III equation with three zero parameters, Emden equations and for some other equations is solved.

Abstract:International Journal of Geometric Methods in Modern Physics, Ahead of Print. We consider the equivalence problem for first-order ordinary differential equations (ODEs) and recover the well-known result that any two first-order ODEs are equivalent under a point transformation by Cartan's equivalence method. Curvature properties of some first-order and second-order ODEs motivate us to define the equivalence problem for such equations as the metric equivalence problem which defines the [math]-structure on the corresponding manifolds. Accordingly, we show that there are first-order ODEs and linear second-order ODEs which may not be equivalent under a class of fiber-preserving diffeomorphisms.

Abstract:When studying the boundary value problems' solvability for some partial differential equations encountered in applied mathematics, we frequently need to create systems of partial differential equations and explicitly construct linearly independent solutions explicitly for these systems. Hypergeometric functions frequently serve as solutions that satisfy these systems. In this study, we develop self-similar solutions for a third-order multidimensional degenerate partial differential equation. These solutions are represented using a generalized confluent Kampé de Fériet hypergeometric function of the third order.

Abstract:Brück's conjecture asserts that if a non-constant entire function f ( z ) with hyper-order shares one finite value a CM (counting multiplicities) with its derivative, then , for some non-zero constant c . This conjecture has been affirmed for entire functions with finite order and hyper-order less than one. In this paper, we show that Brück's conjecture is true for entire functions that satisfy second order differential equations with meromorphic coefficients of finite order.

Abstract:In this paper, we carry out the equivalence problem for fifth-order differential operators on the line under general fiber-preserving transformation using the Cartan method of equivalence. Two versions of equivalence problems have been solved. We consider the direct equivalence problem and an equivalence problem to determine the sufficient and necessary conditions on fifth-order differential operators such that there exists a fiber--preserving transformation mapping one to the other according to gauge equivalence.

Abstract:In this paper, we investigate the Lie group formalism for the time fractional generalized nonlinear Broer–Kaup system in the sense of Riemann–Liouville fractional partial derivative. The Lie algebra corresponding to the symmetry groups in which the studied equation remains invariant is established, and the similarity reductions are performed. Next, based on the invariant subspace method as well as the power series method, including the convergence analysis, some exact solutions of the time fractional generalized Broer–Kaup system and its standard form are derived. Moreover, in order to show the dynamical behavior and the impact of the fractional order on the profile of solutions, some figures in 2D and 3D have been depicted. Finally, in accordance with the nonlinear self-adjointness property, conservation laws are successfully formulated using infinitesimal symmetries.

Abstract:The goal of the present paper is to propose an enhanced ordinary differential equation solver by exploitation of the powerful equivalence method of Élie Cartan. This solver returns a target equation equivalent to the equation to be solved and the transformation realizing the equivalence. The target ODE is a member of a dictionary of ODEs, that are regarded as well-known, or at least well-studied. The dictionary considered in this article comprises the ODEs in a book of Kamke. The major advantage of our solver is that the equivalence transformation is obtained without integrating differential equations. We provide also a theoretical contribution revealing the relationship between the change of coordinates that maps two differential equations and their symmetry pseudo-groups.

Abstract:Second order scalar ordinary differential equations ({\sc ode}s) which are linearizable possess special types of symmetries. These are the only symmetries which are non fiber-preserving in the linearized form of the equation, and they are called non-Cartan symmetries and known only for scalar {\sc ode}s. We give explicit expressions of non-Cartan symmetries for systems of {\sc ode}s of arbitrary dimensions and show that they form an abelian Lie algebra. It is however shown that the natural extension of these non-Cartan symmetries to arbitrary dimensions is applicable only to the natural extension of scalar second order equations to higher dimensions, that is, to equivalence classes under point transformations of the trivial vector equation. More precisely, it is shown that non-Cartan symmetries characterize linear systems of {\sc ode}s reducible by point transformation to their trivial counterpart, and we verify that they do not characterize nonlinear systems of {\sc ode}s having this property. It is also shown amongst others that the non-Cartan property of a symmetry vector is coordinate-free. Some examples of application of these results are discussed. %

Abstract:Classical equivalence between Jordan's and Einstein's frame counterparts of F(R) theory of gravity has recently been questioned, since the two produce different Noether symmetries, which couldn't be translated back and forth using transformation relations. Here we add the Hamiltonian constraint equation, which is essentially the time-time component of Einstein's equation, through a Lagrange multiplier to the existence condition for Noether symmetry to show that all the three different canonical structures of F(R) theory of gravity, including the one which follows from Lagrange multiplier technique, admit each and every available symmetry independently. This establishes classical equivalence amongst all the three.

Abstract:In this paper we consider a generalized Kuramoto-Sivashinsky equation. The equivalence group of the class under consideration has been constructed. This group allows us to perform a comprehensive study and a clear and concise formulation of the results. We have constructed the optimal system of subalgebras of the projections of the equivalence algebra on the space formed by the dependent variable and the arbitrary functions. By using this optimal system, all nonequivalent equations admitting an extension by one of the principal Lie algebra of the class under consideration can be determined. Taking into account the additional symmetries obtained we reduce some partial differential equations belonging to the class into ordinary differential equations. We derive some exact solutions of these equations.
