Abstract:This work extends the study of mean field equations arising in two-dimensional (2D) turbulence by introducing generalized weighted Sobolev operators. Employing variational methods, particularly the mountain pass theorem and a refined blow-up analysis, we establish the existence of nontrivial solutions under broader boundary conditions than those considered in previous studies. In contrast to the unweighted approach developed by Ricciardi (2006), the incorporation of variable weights $\rho(x)$ enables a more accurate representation of complex geometric domains. This generalization addresses cases where the geometry of the manifold or external factors induce local fluctuations, thereby enhancing the applicability of mean field models to real-world turbulence phenomena. The weighted Sobolev framework also strengthens control over the nonlinearity in the problem, reducing the risk of blow-up and ensuring the convergence of solutions in the $H^1(M)$ space. The analysis reveals new conditions for the existence of solutions, including situations where classical methods may fail due to a lack of compactness. The significant advancement lies in the flexibility of the model; the inclusion of weights allows for a more precise description of physical systems in varied settings, representing a key advantage over the original unweighted problem. These results contribute to a deeper understanding of the role of geometric and physical constraints in turbulent behavior and pave new pathways for future research on nonlinear partial differential equations in complex domains.

Abstract:Using the Mountain Pass Theorem we show that the problem \begin{equation*} \begin{cases} \frac{d}{dt}\mathcal{L}_v(t,u(t),\dot u(t))=\mathcal{L}_x(t,u(t),\dot u(t))\quad \text{ for a.e. }t\in[a,b]\\ u(a)=u(b)=0 \end{cases} \end{equation*} has a solution in anisotropic Orlicz-Sobolev space. We consider Lagrangian $\mathcal{L}=F(t,x,v)+V(t,x)+\langle f(t), x\rangle$ with growth condition determined by anisotropic G-function and some geometric condition of Ambrosetti-Rabinowitz type.

Abstract:Using the Mountain Pass Theorem, we establish the existence of periodic solution for Euler-Lagrange equation. Lagrangian consists of kinetic part (an anisotropic G-function), potential part $K-W$ and a forcing term. We consider two situations: $G$ satisfying $\Delta_2\cap\nabla_2$ in infinity and globally. We give conditions on the growth of the potential near zero for both situations.

Abstract:We study a generalized Frenkel-Kontorova model and obtain periodic and heteroclinic mountain pass solutions. Heteroclinic mountain pass solution in the second laminations is new to the generalized Frenkel-Kontorova model. Our proof follows that of Bolotin and Rabinowitz for an Allen-Cahn equation, which is different with heat flow method for finding critical point of Frenkel-Kontorova model in the literature. The proofs depend on suitable choices of functionals and working spaces. We also study the multiplicity of these mountain pass solutions.

Abstract:In this paper, we prove the existence of solutions to quasilinear elliptic equations on a bounded domain of $\R^N$ under subcritical Musielak-Orlicz-Sobolev growth. Our proofs rely essentially on Mountain Pass Theorem with corresponding variational techniques. Furthermore, we establish the sharpness of our central assumptions. As far as we know, our approach is new, even for the Orlicz case.

Abstract:We construct Hölder continuous, global-in-time probabilistically strong solutions to 3D Euler equations perturbed by Stratonovich transport noise. Kinetic energy of the solutions can be prescribed a priori up to a stopping time, that can be chosen arbitrarily large with high probability. We also prove that there exist infinitely many Hölder continuous initial conditions leading to non-uniqueness of solutions to the Cauchy problem associated with the system. Our construction relies on a flow transformation reducing the SPDE under investigation to a random PDE, and convex integration techniques introduced in the deterministic setting by De Lellis and Székelyhidi, here adapted to consider the stochastic case. In particular, our novel approach allows to construct probabilistically strong solutions on $[0,\infty)$ directly.

Abstract:We show uniqueness of classical solutions of the normalised two-dimensional Hamilton-Ricci flow on closed, smooth manifolds for smooth data among solutions satisfying (essentially) only a uniform bound for the Liouville energy and a natural space-time $L^2$-bound for the time derivative of the solution. The result is surprising when compared with results for the harmonic map heat flow, where non-uniqueness through reverse bubbling may occur.

Abstract:We establish the existence of a global solution for a new family of fluid-like equations, which are obtained in a joint work with Serfaty in certain regimes as the mean-field evolution of the supercurrent density in a (2D section of a) type-II superconductor with pinning and with imposed electric current. We also consider general vortex-sheet initial data, and investigate the uniqueness and regularity properties of the solution. For some choice of parameters, the equation under investigation coincides with the so-called lake equation from 2D shallow water fluid dynamics, and our analysis then leads to a new existence result for rough initial data.

Abstract:We perturb the 3D Euler equations by a particular non-linear Stratonovich noise. We show the existence and uniqueness of a global-in-time (i.e. no blow-up) smooth solution. The result is a corollary of a more general theorem valid in an abstract framework, where the addition of such noise prevents the blow-up possibly induced by a drift with super-linear growth. The result is new with Stratonovich noise.

Abstract:We derive two weak formulations for the one-dimensional supercooled Stefan problem with transport noise on the quarter plane. The first captures a continuously evolving system, while the second resolves blow-ups by allowing for suitable jump discontinuities in the evolution of the temperature profile and the freezing front. For the first formulation, we establish a probabilistic representation in terms of a conditional McKean--Vlasov problem, and we show that there is finite time blow-up with positive probability as soon as part of the initial temperature profile exceeds a critical value. On the other hand, the system evolves continuously according to a unique solution when the initial profile is everywhere below this value. In the presence of blow-ups, we exploit the conditional McKean--Vlasov problem to find probabilistic solutions of the second weak formulation and we show that, among these, there is a particular solution of minimal temperature increase over time. Finally, we characterize the jump discontinuities of this solution as the minimal resolution of instabilities with respect to an infinitesimal external heat transfer. A general uniqueness result remains an open problem.

Abstract:We study a stochastically perturbed mean curvature flow for graphs in $\mathbb{R}^3$ over the two-dimensional unit-cube subject to periodic boundary conditions. In particular, we establish the existence of a weak martingale solution. The proof is based on energy methods and therefore presents an alternative to the stochastic viscosity solution approach. To overcome difficulties induced by the degeneracy of the mean curvature operator and the multiplicative gradient noise present in the model we employ a three step approximation scheme together with refined stochastic compactness and martingale identification methods.

Abstract:We consider a class of stochastic evolution equations that include in particular the stochastic Camassa--Holm equation. For the initial value problem on a torus, we first establish the local existence and uniqueness of pathwise solutions in the Sobolev spaces $H^s$ with $s>3/2$. Then we show that strong enough nonlinear noise can prevent blow-up almost surely. To analyze the effects of weaker noise, we consider a linearly multiplicative noise with non-autonomous pre-factor. Then, we formulate precise conditions on the inital data that lead to global existence of strong solutions or to blow-up. The blow-up occurs as wave breaking. For blow-up with positive probability, we derive lower bounds for these probabilities. Finally, the blow-up rate of these solutions is precisely analyzed.

Abstract:For singular mean field equations defined on a compact Riemann surface, we prove the uniqueness of bubbling solutions as far as blowup points are either regular points or non-quantized singular sources. In particular the uniqueness result covers the most general case extending or improving all previous works of Bartolucci-Jevnikar-Lee-Yang \cite{bart-4,bart-4-2} and Wu-Zhang \cite{wu-zhang-ccm}. For example, unlike previous results, we drop the assumption of singular sources being critical points of a suitably defined Kirchoff-Routh type functional. Our argument is based on refined estimates, robust and flexible enough to be applied to a wide range of problems requiring a delicate blowup analysis. In particular we come up with a major simplification of previous uniqueness proofs.

Abstract:On a compact Riemann surface $(\Sigma, g)$ with a smooth boundary $\partial \Sigma$, we consider the following mean field equations with Neumann boundary conditions: $$ -\Delta_g u = \lambda \left(\frac{Ve^u}{\int_{\Sigma} Ve^u \, dv_g} - \frac{1}{|\Sigma|_g}\right) \text{ in } \Sigma \text{ with } \partial_{\nu_g} u = 0 \text{ on } \partial \Sigma, $$ We find conditions on the potential function $V: \Sigma \to \mathbb{R}^+$ such that solutions exist for the parameter $\lambda$ when it is in a small right (or left) neighborhood of a critical value $4\pi(m+k)$ for $k \leq m \in \mathbb{N}_+$ and blow up as $\lambda$ approaches the critical parameter. The blow-up occurs exactly at $k$ points in the interior of $\Sigma$ and $(m-k)$ points on the boundary $\partial \Sigma$.
