Abstract:Intracranial atherosclerotic stenosis (ICAS), also known as intracranial atherosclerotic disease, is a common etiology of ischemic stroke worldwide, especially in Asia. [ 1 ] Among Chinese populations, ICAS-related strokes account for 30% to 50% of all ischemic strokes, ranking as a leading cause of death and disability and significant associated morbidity and mortality. [ 2–4 ] In addition, ICAS is linked to an elevated risk of Alzheimer disease, [ 5 ] which will undoubtedly have a substantial impact on patients' quality of life and imposing a considerable economic burden on society.
