Abstract:A technique to calculate the colored Jones polynomials of satellite knots, illustrated by the Whitehead doubles of knots, is presented. Then we prove the volume conjecture for Whitehead doubles of a family of torus knots and show some interesting observations.

Abstract:We outline a proof of a remarkable conjecture of Labastida-Mari{\~n}o-Ooguri-Vafa about certain new algebraic structures of quantum link invariants and the integrality of infinite family of new topological invariants. Our method is based on the cut-and-join analysis and a special rational ring characterizing the structure of the Chern-Simons partition function.

Abstract:The volume conjecture and its generalization state that the series of certain evaluations of the colored Jones polynomials of a knot would grow exponentially and its growth rate would be related to the volume of a three-manifold obtained by Dehn surgery along the knot. In this paper, we show that for the figure-eight knot the series converges in some cases and the limit equals the inverse of its Alexander polynomial.

Abstract:Whitehead doubles provide a plethora of examples of knots that are topologically slice but not smoothly slice. We discuss the problem of the Whitehead double of the Figure 8 knot and survey commonly used techniques to obstructing sliceness. Additionally, we improve bounds in general for the non-orientable 4 genus of $t$-twisted Whitehead doubles and provide genus 1 non-orientable cobordisms to cable knots.

Abstract: This paper discuss an intrinsic relation among congruent relations \cite{CLPZ}, cyclotomic expansion and Volume Conjecture for $SU(n)$ invariants. Motivated by the congruent relations for $SU(n)$ invariants obtained in our previous work \cite{CLPZ}, we study certain limits of the $SU(n)$ invariants at various roots of unit. First, we prove a new symmetry property for the $SU(n)$ invariants by using a symmetry of colored HOMFLYPT invariants. Then we propose some conjectural formulas including the cyclotomic expansion conjecture and volume conjecture for $SU(n)$ invariants (specialization of colored HOMFLYPT invariants). We also give the proofs of these conjectural formulas for the case of figure-eight knot.

Abstract:We show the $n$ colored Jones polynomials of a highly twisted link approach the Kauffman bracket of an $n$ colored skein element. This is in the sense that the corresponding categorifications of the colored Jones polynomials approach the categorification of the Kauffman bracket of the skein element in a direct limit, as the number of twisting of each twist region tends toward infinity, proving a quantum version of Thurston's hyperbolic Dehn surgery theorem implicit in Rozansky's work, and categorifying a result by Champanerkar-Kofman. In view of the volume conjecture, we compute the asymptotic growth rate of the Kauffman bracket of the limiting skein element at a root of unity and relate it to the volume of regular ideal octahedra that arise naturally from the evaluation of the colored Jones polynomials of the link.

Abstract:We prove an explicit cabling formula for the colored Jones polynomial. As an application we prove the volume conjecture for all zero volume knots and links, i.e. all knots and links that are obtained from the unknot by repeated cabling and connected sum.

Abstract:The volume conjecture relates the quantum invariant and the hyperbolic geometry. Bonahon-Wong-Yang introduced a new version of the volume conjecture by using the intertwiners between two isomorphic irreducible representations of the skein algebra. The intertwiners are built from surface diffeomorphisms; they formulated the volume conjecture when diffeomorphisms are pseudo-Anosov. In this paper, we explicitly calculate all the intertwiners for the closed torus using an algebraic embedding from the skein algebra of the closed torus to a quantum torus, and show the limit superior related to the trace of these intertwiners is zero. Moreover, we consider the periodic diffeomorphisms for surfaces with negative Euler characteristic, and conjecture the corresponding limit is zero because the simplicial volume of the mapping tori for periodic diffeomorphisms is zero. For the once punctured torus, we make precise calculations for intertwiners and prove our conjecture.

Abstract:For a twist knot $\mathcal{K}_{p'}$, let $M$ be the closed $3$-manifold obtained by doing $(p, q)$ Dehn-filling along $\mathcal{K}_{p'}$. In this article, we prove that Chen-Yang's volume conjecture holds for sufficiently large $|p| + |q|$ and $|p'|$ for $M$. In the proof, we construct a new ideal triangulation of the Whitehead link complement which is different from Thurston's triangulation. Our triangulation has led to some new discoveries regarding symmetry, including insights into ``sister manifolds'' as introduced by Hodgson, Meyerhoff, and Weeks.

Abstract:In recent years, several families of hyperbolic knots have been shown to have both volume and $\lambda_1$ (first eigenvalue of the Laplacian) bounded in terms of the twist number of a diagram, while other families of knots have volume bounded by a generalized twist number. We show that for general knots, neither the twist number nor the generalized twist number of a diagram can provide two-sided bounds on either the volume or $\lambda_1$. We do so by studying the geometry of a family of hyperbolic knots that we call double coil knots, and finding two-sided bounds in terms of the knot diagrams on both the volume and on $\lambda_1$. We also extend a result of Lackenby to show that a collection of double coil knot complements forms an expanding family iff their volume is bounded.

Abstract:Given a hyperbolic 3-manifold with torus boundary, we bound the change in volume under a Dehn filling where all slopes have length at least 2\pi. This result is applied to give explicit diagrammatic bounds on the volumes of many knots and links, as well as their Dehn fillings and branched covers. Finally, we use this result to bound the volumes of knots in terms of the coefficients of their Jones polynomials.

Abstract:In the generalized topological quantum field theory constructed by Andersen and Kashaev, invariants of 3-manifolds are defined given the combinatorial structure of a tetrahedral decomposition. Furthermore, a variant of the volume conjecture has been proposed in which the hyperbolic volume can be extracted from this invariant of the complementary space of the hyperbolic knot in an oriented $3$-dimensional closed manifold. We prove that the reformulated volume conjecture holds for the complementary space of the hyperbolic knot $7_3$ in $S^3$, given a specific tetrahedral decomposition.

Abstract:We propose a generalization of the Bonahon-Wong-Yang volume conjecture of quantum invariants of surface diffeomorphisms, by relating the asymptotics of the invariants with certain hyperbolic cone structure on the mapping torus determined by the choice of the invariant puncture weights. We prove the conjecture for the once-punctured torus bundle with the diffeomorphism given by the word $LR$.

Abstract:We give a dynamical proof of a result of Masser and Zannier [MZ2, MZ3] about torsion points on the Legendre family of elliptic curves. Our methods also treat points of small height. A key ingredient is the arithmetic equidistribution theorem on $\mathbb{P}^1$ of Baker-Rumely, Chambert-Loir, and Favre-Rivera-Letelier. Torsion points on the elliptic curve coincide with preperiodic points for the degree-4 Lattes family of rational functions. Our main new results concern properties of the bifurcation measures for this Lattes family associated to marked points.

Abstract:We study coloured invariants of torus knots $T(p,p')$ (where $p,p'$ are coprime positive integers). When the colouring Lie algebra is simply-laced, and when $p,p'\geq h^\vee$, we use the representation theory of the corresponding principal affine $\mathcal{W}$ algebras to understand the trailing monomials of the coloured invariants. In these cases, we show that the appropriate limits of the renormalized invariants are equal to the characters of certain $\mathcal{W}$ algebra modules (up to some factors). This result on limits rests on a purely Lie-algebraic conjecture on asymptotic weight multiplicities which we verify in some examples.
