Abstract:We prove an explicit cabling formula for the colored Jones polynomial. As an application we prove the volume conjecture for all zero volume knots and links, i.e. all knots and links that are obtained from the unknot by repeated cabling and connected sum.

Abstract:We continue our study of the degree of the colored Jones polynomial under knot cabling started in "Knot Cabling and the Degree of the Colored Jones Polynomial" (<a class="link-https" data-arxiv-id="1501.01574" href="https://arxiv.org/abs/1501.01574">arXiv:1501.01574</a>). Under certain hypothesis on this degree, we determine how the Jones slopes and the linear term behave under cabling. As an application we verify Garoufalidis' Slope Conjecture and a conjecture of the authors for cables of a two-parameter family of closed 3-braids called 2-fusion knots.

Abstract:The volume conjecture and its generalization state that the series of certain evaluations of the colored Jones polynomials of a knot would grow exponentially and its growth rate would be related to the volume of a three-manifold obtained by Dehn surgery along the knot. In this paper, we show that for the figure-eight knot the series converges in some cases and the limit equals the inverse of its Alexander polynomial.

Abstract:We obtain a formula for the Turaev-Viro invariants of a link complement in terms of values of the colored Jones polynomial of the link. As an application we give the first examples for which the volume conjecture of Chen and the third named author\,\cite{Chen-Yang} is verified. Namely, we show that the asymptotics of the Turaev-Viro invariants of the Figure-eight knot and the Borromean rings complement determine the corresponding hyperbolic volumes. Our calculations also exhibit new phenomena of asymptotic behavior of values of the colored Jones polynomials that seem not to be predicted by neither the Kashaev-Murakami-Murakami volume conjecture and various of its generalizations nor by Zagier's quantum modularity conjecture. We conjecture that the asymptotics of the Turaev-Viro invariants of any link complement determine the simplicial volume of the link, and verify it for all knots with zero simplicial volume. Finally we observe that our simplicial volume conjecture is stable under connect sum and split unions of links.

Abstract:We study the asymptotic behavior of the $N$-dimensional colored Jones polynomial of the figure-eight knot, evaluated at $\exp\bigl((u+2p\pi\sqrt{-1})/N\bigr)$ as $N$ tends to infinity, where $u>\operatorname{arccosh}(3/2)$ is a real number and $p\ge1$ is an integer. It turns out that it corresponds to an $\operatorname{SL}(2;\mathbb{R})$ representation of the fundamental group of the knot complement. Moreover, it defines the adjoint Reidemeister torsion and the Chern--Simons invariant associated with the representation.

Abstract:In this paper, we present a formula for computing the Tutte polynomial of the signed graph formed from a labeled graph by edge replacements in terms of the chain polynomial of the labeled graph. Then we define a family of ring of tangles links and consider zeros of their Jones polynomials. By applying the formula obtained, Beraha-Kahane-Weisss theorem and Sokals lemma, we prove that zeros of Jones polynomials of (pretzel) links are dense in the whole complex plane.

Abstract:The colored Jones function of a knot is a sequence of Laurent polynomials. It was shown by TTQ. Le and the author that such sequences are $q$-holonomic, that is, they satisfy linear $q$-difference equations with coefficients Laurent polynomials in $q$ and $q^n$. We show from first principles that $q$-holonomic sequences give rise to modules over a $q$-Weyl ring. Frohman-Gelca-LoFaro have identified the latter ring with the ring of even functions of the quantum torus, and with the Kauffman bracket skein module of the torus. Via this identification, we study relations among the orthogonal, peripheral and recursion ideal of the colored Jones function, introduced by the above mentioned authors. In the second part of the paper, we convert the linear $q$-difference equations of the colored Jones function in terms of a hierarchy of linear ordinary differential equations for its loop expansion. This conversion is a version of the WKB method, and may shed some information on the problem of asymptotics of the colored Jones function of a <a class="link-external link-http" href="http://knot.Final" rel="external noopener nofollow">this http URL</a> version. Abstract:In 2012, Cohen, Dasbach, and Russell presented an algorithm to construct a weighted adjacency matrix for a given knot diagram. In the case of pretzel knots, it is shown that after evaluation, the determinant of the matrix recovers the Jones polynomial. Although the Jones polynomial is known to be #P-hard by Jaeger, Vertigan, and Welsh, this presents a class of knots for which the Jones polynomial can be computed in polynomial time by using the determinant. In this paper, we extend these results by recovering the Jones polynomial as the determinant of a weighted adjacency matrix for certain subfamilies of the braid group. Lastly, we compute the Kauffman polynomial of (2,q) torus knots in polynomial time using the balanced overlaid Tait graphs. This is the first known example of generalizing the methodology of Cohen to a class of quantum invariants which cannot be derived from the HOMFLYPT polynomial.

Abstract:We show the $n$ colored Jones polynomials of a highly twisted link approach the Kauffman bracket of an $n$ colored skein element. This is in the sense that the corresponding categorifications of the colored Jones polynomials approach the categorification of the Kauffman bracket of the skein element in a direct limit, as the number of twisting of each twist region tends toward infinity, proving a quantum version of Thurston's hyperbolic Dehn surgery theorem implicit in Rozansky's work, and categorifying a result by Champanerkar-Kofman. In view of the volume conjecture, we compute the asymptotic growth rate of the Kauffman bracket of the limiting skein element at a root of unity and relate it to the volume of regular ideal octahedra that arise naturally from the evaluation of the colored Jones polynomials of the link.

Abstract:We study the asymptotic behavior of the $N$-dimensional colored Jones polynomial of the figure-eight knot evaluated at $\exp\bigl((\kappa+2p\piı/N\bigr)$, where $\kappa:=\arccosh(3/2)$ and $p$ is a positive integer. We can prove that it grows exponentially with growth rate determined by the Chern--Simons invariant of an affine representation from the fundamental group of the knot complement to the Lie group $\SL(2;\C)$.

Abstract:We use the degree of the colored Jones knot polynomials to show that the crossing number of a $(p,q)$-cable of an adequate knot with crossing number $c$ is larger than $q^2\, c$. As an application we determine the crossing number of $2$-cables of adequate knots. We also determine the crossing number of the connected sum of any adequate knot with a $2$-cable of an adequate knot.

Abstract:Garoufalidis conjectured a relation between the boundary slopes of a knot and its colored Jones polynomials. According to the conjecture, certain boundary slopes are detected by the sequence of degrees of the colored Jones polynomials. We verify this conjecture for adequate knots, a class that vastly generalizes that of alternating knots.

Abstract:We provide a new bound on the maximum degree of the Jones polynomial of a positive link with second Jones coefficient equal to $\pm 1$ or $\pm 2$. This builds upon the result of our previous work, in which we found such a bound for positive fibered links. We also show that each of these three bounds obstruct positivity for infinitely many almost-positive diagrams, allowing us to classify infinitely many knots as almost-positive.

Abstract:We use the machinery of categorified Jones-Wenzl projectors to construct a categorification of a type A Reshetikhin-Turaev invariant of oriented framed tangles where each strand is labeled by an arbitrary finite-dimensional representation. As a special case, we obtain a categorification of the coloured Jones polynomial of links.

Abstract:The colored Jones polynomial associated to a knot admits an expansion of knot invariants known as the large-color expansion or Melvin-Morton-Rozansky expansion. We will show how this expansion can be derived from the universal invariant arising from a Hopf algebra $\mathbb{D}$, as introduced by Bar-Natan and Van der Veen. We utilize a Mathematica implementation to compute the universal invariant $\mathbf{Z}_{\mathbb{D}}(\mathcal{K})$ up to a certain order for a given knot $\mathcal{K}$, allowing for experimental verification of our theoretical results.

Abstract:Let D be a general connected reduced alternating link diagram, C be the set of crossings of D and C′ be the nonempty subset of C. In this paper we first define a multiple crossing-twisted link family {D n (C′)|n=1,2,…} based on D and C′, which produces (2,2n+1)-torus knot family, the link family A n defined in Chang and Shrock (Physica A 301:196–218, 2001) and the pretzel link family P(n,n,n) as special cases. Then by applying Beraha-Kahane-Weiss’s Theorem we prove that limits of zeros of Jones polynomials of {D n (C′)|n=1,2,…} are the unit circle |z|=1 (It is independent of the selections of D and C′) and several isolated limits, which can be determined by computing flow polynomials of subgraphs of G corresponding to D. Furthermore, we use the method of Brown and Hickman (Discrete Math. 242:17–30, 2002) to prove that, for any ε>0, all zeros of Jones polynomial of the link D n (C) lie inside the circle |z|=1+ε, provided that n is large enough. Our results extend results of F.Y. Wu, J. Wang, S.-C. Chang, R. Shrock and the present authors and refine partial result of A. Champanerkar and L. Kofman.

In this article, following the method and results in \cite{CZ23-1}, we present an asymptotic expansion formula for the colored Jones polynomial of twist knot $\mathcal{K}_p$ with $p\geq 6$ at the root of unity $e^{\frac{2\pi\sqrt{-1}}{N+\frac{1}{M}}}$ with $M\geq 2$. Furthermore, by taking the limit $M\rightarrow +\infty$, we obtain an asymptotic expansion formula for the colored Jones polynomial of twist knots $\mathcal{K}_p$ with $p\geq 6$ at the root of unity $e^{\frac{2\pi\sqrt{-1}}{N}}$.

Abstract:The Conway potential function (CPF) for colored links is a convenient version of the multi-variable Alexander-Conway polynomial. We give a skein characterization of CPF, much simpler than the one by Murakami. In particular, Conway's `smoothing of crossings' is not in the axioms. The proof uses a reduction scheme in a twisted group-algebra $\mathbb P_nB_n$, where $B_n$ is a braid group and $\mathbb P_n$ is a domain of multi-variable rational fractions. The proof does not use computer algebra tools. An interesting by-product is a characterization of the Alexander-Conway polynomial of knots.
