Abstract:We prove that to each real singularity $f: (\mathbb{R}^{n}, 0) \to (\mathbb{R}^k, 0)$ with $k\geq 2$ one can associate systems of differential equations $\mathfrak{g}^{k}_f$ which are pushforwards in the category of $\mathcal{D}$-modules over $\mathbb{R}^{k}$ of the sheaf of real analytic functions on the total space of the Milnor fibration. We then use this to study Hilbert's 16th problem on polynomial dynamical systems in the plane.

Abstract:For a given natural number $n$, the second part of Hilbert's 16th Problem asks whether there exists a finite upper bound for the maximum number of limit cycles that planar polynomial vector fields of degree $n$ can have. This maximum number of limit cycle, denoted by $H(n)$, is called the $n$th Hilbert number. It is well-established that $H(n)$ grows asymptotically as fast as $n^2 \log n$. A direct consequence of this growth estimation is that $H(n)$ cannot be bounded from above by any quadratic polynomial function of $n$. Recently, the authors of the paper [Exploring limit cycles of differential equations through information geometry unveils the solution to Hilbert's 16th problem. Entropy, 26(9), 2024] affirmed to have solved the second part of Hilbert's 16th Problem by claiming that $H(n) = 2(n - 1)(4(n - 1) - 2)$. Since this expression is quadratic in $n$, it contradicts the established asymptotic behavior and, therefore, cannot hold. In this note, we further explore this issue by discussing some counterexamples.

Abstract:This text is intended to become in the long run Chapter 3 of our long saga dedicated to Riemann, Ahlfors and Rohlin. Yet, as its contents evolved as mostly independent (due to our inaptitude to interconnect both trends as strongly as we wished), it seemed preferable to publish it separately. More factually, our account is an attempt to get familiarized with the current consensus about Hilbert's 16th in degree 8. This is a nearly finished piece of mathematics, thanks heroic breakthroughs by Viro, Fiedler, Korchagin, Shustin, Chevallier, Orevkov, yet still leaving undecided six tantalizing bosons among a menagerie of 104 logically possible distributions of ovals (respecting Bézout, Gudkov periodicity, and the Fiedler-Viro imparity law sieving away 4+36 schemes). This quest inevitably involves glimpsing deep into the nebula referrable to as Viro's patchworking, and the likewise spectacular obstructional laws of Fiedler, Viro, Shustin, Orevkov. In the overall, the game is much comparable to a pigeons hunting video-game, where 144 birds are liberated in nature, with some of them strong enough to fly higher and higher in the blue sky as to rejoin the stratospheric paradise of eternal life (construction of a scheme in the algebro-geometric category). Some other, less fortunate, birds were killed (a long time ago) and crashed down miserably over terrestrial crust (prohibition). Alas, the hunt is unfinished with still six birds, apparently too feeble to rally safely the paradise, yet too acrobatic for any homosapiens being skillful enough to shoot them down.

Abstract:Hilbert's program was an ambitious and wide-ranging project in the philosophy and foundations of mathematics. In order to "dispose of the foundational questions in mathematics once and for all, "Hilbert proposed a two-pronged approach in 1921: first, classical mathematics should be formalized in axiomatic systems; second, using only restricted, "finitary" means, one should give proofs of the consistency of these axiomatic systems. Although Godel's incompleteness theorems show that the program as originally conceived cannot be carried out, it had many partial successes, and generated important advances in logical theory and meta-theory, both at the time and since. The article discusses the historical background and development of Hilbert's program, its philosophical underpinnings and consequences, and its subsequent development and influences since the 1930s.

Abstract:V.I.Arnold posed the following problem several times:for given integers n≥2 and m≥3,what is the maximum number Z(m,n) of isolated zeros of the Abelian integrals of all polynomial 1-forms of degree n along all possible families of closed algebraic curves of degree m? We know from the Poincare-Pontryagin Theorem that,if the Abelian integral is not identically equal to zero,then A(n) = Z(n +1,n) gives the maximal number of limit cycles bifurcated from the periodic annuli of all Hamiltonian systems of degree n under any polynomial perturbations of degree n.Hence,Arnold named this problem the weakened 16th problem of Hilbert.During the past 30 years there was some progress on the research of this problem,but it is still quite far to solve it completely.In this paper we give a brief introduction of the problem and some relative research works.

Abstract:This is an English translation of Ludwig Bieberbach's paper ``Remarks on Hilbert's Thirteenth Problem" originally written in German and originally published in Journal für die Reine und Angewandte Mathematik - 165 (89-92) 1931, along with an addendum to the paper published in 1933. Beiberbach studies under what conditions are there functions of three variables which can or cannot be obtained by combining or nesting functions of two variables. In the addendum, Bieberbach acknowledges a fatal error in a proof in the original article and connects Hilbert's thirteenth problem to a related problem in the theory of differential equations.

Abstract:We show that for $5/6$-th of all primes $p$, Hilbert's 10-th Problem is unsolvable for $\mathbb{Q}(\zeta_3, \sqrt[3]{p})$. We also show that there is an infinite set $S$ of square free integers such tha Hilbert's 10-th Problem is unsolvable over the number fields $\mathbb{Q}(\zeta_3, \sqrt{D}, \sqrt[3]{p})$ for every $D \in S$ and every prime $p \equiv 2,5 \pmod{9}$. We use the CM elliptic curves $Y^2=X^3-432D^2$ associated to the cube sum problem, with $D$ varying in suitable congruence class, in our proof.

Abstract:Let $K$ be an imaginary quadratic field and $p$ be an odd prime which splits in $K$. Let $E_1$ and $E_2$ be elliptic curves over $K$ such that the $Gal(\bar{K}/K)$-modules $E_1[p]$ and $E_2[p]$ are isomorphic. We show that under certain explicit additional conditions on $E_1$ and $E_2$, the anticyclotomic $\mathbb{Z}_p$-extension $K_{anti}$ of $K$ is integrally diophantine over $K$. When such conditions are satisfied, we deduce new cases of Hilbert's tenth problem. In greater detail, the conditions imply that Hilbert's tenth problem is unsolvable for all number fields that are contained in $K_{anti}$. We illustrate our results by constructing an explicit example for $p=3$ and $K=\mathbb{Q}(\sqrt{-5})$.

Abstract:This paper presents new results in the theory of number theoretic Hilbert (NHT) transforms. New polymorphic solutions have been found for the 14-point and 16-point transforms. Several transform pairs are computed and solutions found for which the sequence and the transform have the same shape. The multiplicity of solutions for the same moduli increases their applicability to cryptography.

Abstract:We consider Hilbert's tenth problem for two families of noncommutative rings. Let $K$ be a field of characteristic $p$. We start by showing that Hilbert's tenth problem has a negative answer over the twisted polynomial ring $K\{\tau\}$ and its left division ring of fractions $K(\tau)$. We prove that the recursively enumerable sets and Diophantine sets of $\mathbb{F}_{q^n}\{\tau\}$ coincide. We reduce Hilbert's tenth problem over $\mathbb{F}_{q^n}\{\!\{\tau\}\!\}$ and $\mathbb{F}_{q^n}(\!(\tau)\!)$, the twisted version of the power series and Laurent series, to the commutative case. Finally, we show that the different models of $\mathbb{F}_q[T]$ in $K\{\tau\}$ we created are all equivalent in some sense which we will define. We then move on to the second family of rings, coming from differential polynomials. We show that Hilbert's tenth problem over $K[\partial]$ has a negative answer. We prove that Hilbert's tenth problem over the left division ring of fractions $K(\partial_1,\ldots,\partial_k)$ can be reduced to Hilbert's tenth problem over $C(t_1,\ldots,t_k)$ where $C$ is the field of constants of $K$. This gives a negative answer for $k \geq 2$ if the field of constants is $\mathbb{C}$ and for $k\geq 1$ if it is $\mathbb{R}$.

Abstract:One of the main open problems in the context of extensions of Hilbert's tenth problem (HTP) is the case of the ring of complex entire functions in one variable. Our main result provides a step towards an answer: For every $\rho\ge 0$, we give a negative solution to the analogue of HTP in the ring of complex entire functions in one variable of growth order at most $\rho$.

Abstract:Let $\mathscr E$ be a Hilbert $\mathscr A$-module over a $C^*$-algebra $\mathscr A$. For each positive linear functional $\omega$ on $\mathscr A$, we consider the localization $\mathscr E_\omega$ of $\mathscr E$, which is the completion of the quotient space $\mathscr E/\mathscr {N}_\omega$, where $\mathscr N_\omega=\{x\in \mathscr E:\omega\langle x,x\rangle=0\}$. Let $\mathscr H$ and $\mathscr K$ be closed submodules of $\mathscr E$ such that $\mathscr H\cap \mathscr K$ is orthogonally complemented, and let $\omega=\sum_{j=1}^{\infty}\lambda_j\omega_j$, where $\lambda_j>0$, $\sum_{j=1}^{\infty}\lambda_j=1$, and $\omega_j$'s are positive linear functionals on $\mathscr A$. We prove that if $(\mathscr H\cap \mathscr K)_{\omega_j}=\mathscr H_{\omega_j}\cap \mathscr K_{\omega_j}$ for each $j$, then \[ (\mathscr H\cap \mathscr K)_\omega=\mathscr H_\omega\cap \mathscr K_\omega\,. \] Furthermore, let $\mathscr L$ be a closed submodule of a Hilbert $\mathscr A$-module $\mathscr E$ over a $W^*$-algebra $\mathscr A$. We pose the following separation problem: ``Does there exist a normal state $\omega$ such that $\iota_\omega (\mathscr L)$ is not dense in $\mathscr E_\omega $?'' In this paper, among other results, we give an affirmative answer to this problem, when $\mathscr E$ is a self-dual Hilbert $C^*$-module over a $W^*$-algebra $\mathscr A$ such that $\mathscr E\backslash \mathscr L$ has a nonempty interior with respect to the weak$^*$-topology. This is a step toward answering the above problem.
