Abstract:Leading logarithmic corrections to the difference of Lamb shifts of s-states $E_L(1s)-8E_L(2s)$ and to the life time of $2p_{1/2}$ state are considered. The result of Sokolov and Yakovlev for the Lamb splitting of $2s_{1/2}$ and $2p_{1/2}$ is re-evaluated and our new value is <a class="link-https" data-arxiv-id="1057.8576" href="https://arxiv.org/abs/1057.8576">1057.8576</a>(21) MHz. Using value of $E_L(1s)-8E_L(2s)=$ -187.237(8) MHz, obtained here, a new value of the Hydrogen and Deuterium ground states using all recent measurements connected with 1s or 2s Lamb shifts. The highest precision value for the Hydrogen ground state is obtained from corrected result of Sokolov and Yakovlev experiment as 8172.934(22) MHz. The Deuterium result is $E_L(1s)-8E_L(2s)=$ -187.229(8) MHz, using it we obtain from the Garching experiment 8183.905(224) MHz. Some related topics are also considered. Taking into account nearest future result the fine structure constant problem are reviewed. Special attention is payed to Muonium hyperfine splitting, which it is done simillar to Lamb shift calculatuion for and to the neutron de Broglie's wave length measurements which also could lead to some connection between the Deuterium mass and the fine structure constant.

Abstract:A comprehensive theory of the Lamb shift in light muonic atoms such as $\mu$H, $\mu$D, $\mu^3$He$^+$, and $\mu^4$He$^+$ is presented, with all quantum electrodynamic corrections included at the precision level constrained by the uncertainty of nuclear structure effects. This analysis can be used in the global adjustment of fundamental constants and in the determination of nuclear charge radii. Further improvements in the understanding of electromagnetic interactions of light nuclei will allow for a promising test of fundamental interactions by comparison with ``normal" atomic spectroscopy, in particular, with H-D and $^3$He-$^4$He isotope shifts.

Abstract:The present knowledge of Lamb shift, fine- and hyperfine structure of the $\mathrm{2S}$ and $\mathrm{2P}$ states in muonic deuterium is reviewed in anticipation of the results of a first measurement of several $\mathrm{2S-2P}$ transition frequencies in muonic deuterium ($\mu\mathrm{d}$). A term-by-term comparison of all available sources reveals reliable values and uncertainties of the QED and nuclear structure-dependent contributions to the Lamb shift, which are essential for a determination of the deuteron rms charge radius from $\mu\mathrm{d}$. Apparent discrepancies between different sources are resolved, in particular for the difficult two-photon exchange contributions. Problematic single-sourced terms are identified which require independent recalculation.

Abstract:From the comparison between the experimental and theoretical results for the energy difference between 2s1/2 and 2p1/2 states in hydrogen and hydrogen-like ions with different values of Z, we estimate bounds for the presence of an extra fractional dimension. These bounds are higher when we work with muonic hydrogen and muonic deuterium, which open the possibility that future measurements of the Lamb shift in muonic atoms with one electron and higher values of Z may show evidence of the extra dimension.

Abstract:The present knowledge of Lamb shift, fine-, and hyperfine structure of the 2S and 2P states in muonic helium-3 ions is reviewed in anticipation of the results of a first measurement of several $\mathrm{2S\rightarrow2P}$ transition frequencies in the muonic helium-3 ion, $\mathrm{\mu^3He^+}$. This ion is the bound state of a single negative muon $\mu^-$ and a bare helium-3 nucleus (helion), $\mathrm{^3He^{++}}$. A term-by-term comparison of all available sources, including new, updated, and so far unpublished calculations, reveals reliable values and uncertainties of the QED and nuclear structure-dependent contributions to the Lamb shift and the hyperfine splitting. These values are essential for the determination of the helion rms charge radius and the nuclear structure effects to the hyperfine splitting in $\mathrm{\mu^3He^+}$. Abstract:Measuring the 2S-2P Lamb shift in a hydrogen-like muonic atom allows one to extract its nuclear charge radius with a high precision that is limited by the uncertainty in the nuclear structure corrections. The charge radius of the proton thus extracted was found to be 7-sigma away from the CODATA value, in what has become the yet unsolved "proton radius puzzle". Further experiments currently aim at the isotopes of hydrogen and helium: the precise extraction of their radii may provide a hint at the solution of the puzzle. We present the first ab initio calculation of nuclear structure corrections, including the nuclear polarization correction, to the 2S-2P transition in $\mu^3$He$^+$ and $\mu^3$H, and assess solid theoretical error bars. Our predictions reduce the uncertainty in the nuclear structure corrections to the level of a few percents and will be instrumental to the on-going $\mu^3$He$^+$ experiment. We also support the mirror $\mu\,^3$H system as a candidate for further probing of the nucleon polarizabilities and shedding more light on the puzzle.

Abstract:Recently the muonic hydrogen lamb shift has been measured with unprecedented accuracy, allowing for a precise determination of the proton radius. This determination is 5 sigma away from the previous CODATA value obtained from (mainly) the hydrogen lamb shift and the electron-proton scattering. Within an effective field theory formalism, I will define the proton radius and briefly review some aspects of the theoretical prediction for the muonic hydrogen lamb shift, studying both the pure QED-like computation and the hadronic effects.

Abstract:The radiative correction to the Lamb shift of order $\alpha^{2}(Z\alpha)^5m$ induced by the light by light scattering insertion in external photons is obtained. The new contribution turns out to be equal to $-0.122(2)\alpha^2(Z\alpha)^5/(\pi n^3)(m_r/m)^3m$. Combining this contribution with our previous results we obtain the complete correction of order $\alpha^{2}(Z\alpha)^5m$ induced by all diagrams with closed electron loops. This correction is $37.3(1)$ kHz and $4.67(1)$ kHz for the $1S$- and $2S$-states in hydrogen, respectively.

Abstract:Accurate calculations of the nuclear recoil effect to the Lamb shift of hydrogen-like atoms are presented. Numerical results are reported for the $ns$ states with $n \leq 5$ and for the $2p_{1/2}$ and $2p_{3/2}$ states. The calculations are performed to the first order in the electron-nucleus mass ratio and to all orders in the nuclear binding strength parameter $Z\alpha$ (where $Z$ is the nuclear charge number and $\alpha$ is the fine structure constant). The obtained results provide accurate predictions for the higher-order remainder beyond the known $Z\alpha$-expansion terms. In the case of hydrogen, the remainder was found to be much larger than anticipated. This result resolves the previously reported disagreement between the numerical all-order and the analytical $Z\alpha$-expansion approaches for the nuclear recoil effect in the hydrogen Lamb shift.

Abstract:Comparing electronic Hydrogen with muonic Hydrogen shows that the discrepancy in measurement of the Lamb shift in the both systems are relatively of order of $(\frac{m_\mu}{m_e})^{4-5}$. We explore the spectrum of Hydrogen atom in noncommutative $QED$ to compare the noncommutative effects on the both bound states. We show that in the Lorentz violating noncommutative QED the ratio of NC-corrections is $(\frac{m_\mu}{m_e})^3$ while in the Lorentz conserving NCQED is $(\frac{m_\mu}{m_e})^5$. An uncertainty about $1 \,Hz\ll 3\,kHz$ in the Lamb shift of Hydrogen atom leads to an NC correction about $10 \,MHz$ in the Lorentz violating noncommutative QED and about $400 \,GHz$ in the Lorentz conserving noncommutative QED.

Abstract:Radiative corrections which remove accidental degeneracy in the spectrum of the relativistic hydrogen atom and lead to the modification of the Coulomb law, are calculated within the novel approach, based on the exact solution of the Dirac equation with the Coulomb potential. The energy spectrum of the hydrogen atom is obtained with account of these corrections and the Lamb shift is calculated for the lowest energy states.

Abstract:We consider the impact of combining precision spectroscopic measurements made in atomic hydrogen with similar measurements made in atomic deuterium on the search for physics beyond the Standard Model. Specifically we consider the wide class of models that can be described by an effective Yukawa-type interaction between the nucleus and the electron. We find that it is possible to set bounds on new light-mass bosons that are orders of magnitude more sensitive than those set using a single isotope only, provided the interaction couples differently to the deuteron and proton. Further enhancements of these bounds by an order of magnitude or more would be made possible by extending the current measurements of the isotope shift of the 1s$_{1/2}$-2s$_{1/2}$ transition frequency to that of a transition between the 2s$_{1/2}$ state and a Rydberg s-state.

Abstract:The departure of the latest FNAL experimental average for the muon anomalous magnetic moment measurements, having increased from (Abi et al. in Measurement of the positive muon anomalous magnetic moment to 0.46 ppm, arXiv:2104.03281, 2021) to (Muon g-2, D.P. Aguillard et al. in Measurement of the positive muon anomalous magnetic moment to 0.20 ppm, arXiv:2308.06230, 2023) with respect to the white paper (WP) consensus (Aoyama et al. in Phys Rep 887:1, arXiv:2006.04822, 2020), may indicate a hint for new physics. As the most delicate piece of is its leading-order hadronic vacuum polarization (HVP) part , methods to ascertain its theoretical value are crucial to appropriately interpreting this departure from the measurement. We, therefore, propose to closely examine the dipion spectra from the decays in the hidden local symmetry (HLS) context using its BHLS broken variant. We thus have at our disposal a framework where the close relationship of the dipion spectra from the and decays and of the annihilation can be simultaneously considered. A special focus is given to the high-statistics dipion spectra from the decay collected by the KLOE/KLOE2 Collaboration and decay collected by the BESIII Collaboration, and it is shown that the BHLS framework provides a fair account of their dipion spectra. More precisely, it is first proven that a single Omnès representation real polynomial is required, common to both the and dipion spectra. Moreover, it is shown that fits involving the dipion spectra, and excluding the annihilation data, allow for a prediction of the pion vector form factor data which agrees fairly well with the usual dipion spectra collected in the annihilation channel. Even if more precise dipion spectra would help to be fully conclusive, this confirms the dispersive approach results for and points toward a common non-experimentally dependent origin to this tension with the now well-accepted LQCD result.

Abstract:Unraveling the proton puzzle The discrepancy between the proton size deduced from the Lamb shift in muonic hydrogen and the average, textbook value based on regular (electronic) hydrogen has puzzled physicists for nearly a decade. One possible resolution could be that electrons interact with protons in a different way than muons do, which would require “new physics.” Bezginov et al. measured the Lamb shift in electronic hydrogen, which allowed for a direct comparison to the Lamb shift measured in muonic hydrogen. Abstract:Based on the precision experimental data of energy-level differences in hydrogenlike atoms, especially the 1S-2S transition of hydrogen and deuterium, the necessity of establishing a reduced Dirac equation (RDE) with reduced mass as the substitution of original electron mass is stressed. The theoretical basis of RDE lies on two symmetries, the invariance under the space-time inversion and that under the pure space inversion. Based on RDE and within the framework of quantum electrodynamics in covariant form, the Lamb shift can be evaluated (at one-loop level) as the radiative correction on a bound electron staying in an off-mass-shell state--a new approach eliminating the infrared divergence. Hence the whole calculation, though with limited accuracy, is simplified, getting rid of all divergences and free of ambiguity.
