Abstract: This paper is concerned with proving superlogarithmic estimates for the operator $\Box_b$ on pseudoconvex CR manifolds and using them to establish hypoellipticity of $\Box_b$ and of the $\bar{\partial}$-Neumann problem. These estimates are established under the assumption that subellipticity degenerates in certain specified ways.

Abstract:Let $X$ be a compact connected CR manifold with a transversal CR $S^1$-action of real dimension $2n-1$, which is only assumed to be weakly pseudoconvex. Let $\Box_b$ be the $\overline{\partial}_b$-Laplacian, with respect to a $T$-rigid Hermitian metric (see Definition 3.2 of $T$-rigid Hermitian metric). Eigenvalue estimate of $\Box_b$ is a fundamental issue both in CR geometry and analysis. In this paper, we are able to obtain a sharp estimate of the number of eigenvalues smaller than or equal to $\lambda$ of $\Box_b$ acting on the $m$-th Fourier components of smooth $(n-1,q)$-forms on $X$, where $m\in \mathbb{Z}_+$ and $q=0,1,\cdots, n-1$. Here the sharp means the growth order with respect to $m$ is sharp. In particular, when $\lambda=0$, we obtain the asymptotic estimate of the growth for $m$-th Fourier components $H^{n-1,q}_{b,m}(X)$ of $H^{n-1,q}_b(X)$ as $m \rightarrow +\infty$. Furthermore, we establish a Serre type duality theorem for Fourier components of Kohn-Rossi cohomology which is of independent interest. As a byproduct, the asymptotic growth of the dimensions of the Fourier components $H^{0,q}_{b,-m}(X)$ for $ m\in \mathbb{Z}_+$ is established. We also give appilcations of our main results, including Morse type inequalities, asymptotic Riemann-Roch type theorem, Grauert-Riemenscheider type criterion, and an orbifold version of our main results which provides an answer towards a folklore open problem informed to us by Hsiao.

Global subelliptic estimates for geometric Kramers-Fokker-Planck operators on closed manifolds

Abstract:In this article we reconsider the proof of subelliptic estimates for Geometric Kramers-Fokker-Planck operators, a class which includes Bismut's hypoelliptic Laplacian, when the base manifold is closed (no boundary). The method is significantly different from the ones proposed by Bismut-Lebeau in [BiLe] and Lebeau in [Leb1] and [Leb2]. As a new result we are able to prove maximal subelliptic estimates with some control of the constants in the two asymptotic regimes of high (b $\rightarrow$ 0) and low (b $\rightarrow$ +$\infty$) friction. After a dyadic partition in the momentum variable, the analysis is essentially local in the position variable, contrary to the microlocal reduction techniques of the previous works. In particular this method will be easier to adapt on manifolds with boundaries. A byproduct of our analysis is the introduction of a very convenient double exponent Sobolev scale associated with globally defined differential operators. Applications of this convenient parameter dependent functional analysis to accurate spectral problems, in particular for Bismut's hypoelliptic Laplacian with all its specific geometry, is deferred to subsequent works.

Abstract:We use the Bernstein method to provide logarithmic gradient estimates and universal boundedness estimates for semilinear elliptic equations that satisfy the subcritical index condition. Our estimates are applicable to equations on Riemannian manifolds with (Bakry-Émery) Ricci curvature that is bounded below, and they are original for many concrete equations, even on Euclidean spaces that have been carefully investigated by numerous experts. Under the (Bakry-Émery) Ricci curvature bounded below condition, we establish relations among basic estimates, such as the universal boundedness estimate, logarithmic gradient estimate, and Harnack inequality. Under the (Bakry-Émery) Ricci curvature non-negative condition and certain mild assumptions, these estimates are $\kappa$-equivalent for any $\kappa>1$. As an application, we obtain optimal pointwise estimates and Liouville theorems for specific equations on Euclidean spaces.

Abstract:Among those transversally elliptic operators initiated by Atiyah and Singer, Kohn's $\Box_b$ operator on CR manifolds with $S^1$ action is a natural one of geometric significance for complex analysts. Our first main result establishes an asymptotic expansion for the heat kernel of such an operator with values in its Fourier components, which involves an unprecedented contribution in terms of a distance function from lower dimensional strata of the $S^1$-action. Our second main result computes a local index density, in terms of \emph{tangential} characteristic forms, on such manifolds including \emph{Sasakian manifolds} of interest in String Theory, by showing that certain non-trivial contributions from strata in the heat kernel expansion will eventually cancel out by applying Getzler's rescaling technique to off-diagonal estimates. This leads to a local result which can be thought of as a type of local index theorem on these CR manifolds. As applications of our CR index theorem we can prove a CR version of Grauert-Riemenschneider criterion, and produce many CR functions on a weakly pseudoconvex CR manifold with transversal $S^1$ action and many CR sections on some class of CR manifolds, answering (on this class of manifolds) some long-standing questions in several complex variables and CR geometry. We give examples of these CR manifolds, some of which arise from Brieskorn manifolds. Moreover in some cases, without use of equivariant cohomology method nor keeping contributions arising from lower dimensional strata as done in previous works, we can reinterpret Kawasaki's Hirzebruch-Riemann-Roch formula for a complex orbifold with an orbifold holomorphic line bundle, as an index theorem obtained by a single integral over a smooth CR manifold which is essentially the circle bundle of this line bundle.

Abstract:In this paper, by utilizing a newly established variational principle on convex sets, we provide an existence and multiplicity result for a class of semilinear elliptic problems defined on the whole $\mathbb R^N$ with nonlinearities involving sublinear and superlinear terms. We shall impose no growth restriction on the nonlinear term and consequently our problem can be super-critical by means of Sobolev spaces.

The problem has been open since 1971. He also extends and solves the problem on a bounded product domain $\Omega^n$, where $\Omega$ is any bounded domain in $\mathbb{C}$ with $C^{1,\alpha}$ boundary for some $\alpha>0$.

Abstract:Let $X$ be a compact strictly pseudoconvex embeddable Cauchy-Riemann manifold and let $T_P$ be the Toeplitz operator on $X$ associated with a first-order pseudodifferential operator $P$. In our previous work we established the asymptotic expansion for $k$ large of the kernel of the operators $\chi(k^{-1}T_P)$, where $\chi$ is a smooth cut-off function supported in the positive real line. By using these asymptotics, we show in this paper that $X$ can be projectively embedded by maps with components of the form $\chi(k^{-1}\lambda)f_\lambda$, where $\lambda$ is an eigenvalue of $T_P$ and $f_\lambda$ is a corresponding eigenfunction. We establish the asymptotics of the pull-back of the Fubini-Study metric by these maps and we obtain the distribution of the zero divisors of random Cauchy-Riemann functions. We then establish a version of the Lelong-Poincaré formula for domains with boundary and obtain the distribution of the zero divisors of random holomorphic functions on strictly pseudoconvex domains.

Abstract:We prove a homotopy formula which yields almost optimal estimates in all (positive-indexed) Sobolev and Hölder-Zygmund spaces for the $\overline \partial$ equation on finite type domains in $\mathbb C^2$, extending the earlier results of Fefferman-Kohn (1988) and Chang-Nagel-Stein (1992), and Range (1992). The main novelty of our proof is the construction of holomorphic support functions that admit precise estimates when the parameter variable lies in a thin shell outside the domain, which generalizes Range's method.

Abstract:We establish general sufficient conditions for exact (and global) regularity in the $\bar\partial$-Neumann problem on $(p,q)$-forms, $0 \leq p \leq n$ and $1\leq q \leq n$, on a pseudoconvex domain $\Omega$ with smooth boundary $b\Omega$ in an $n$-dimensional complex manifold $M$. Our hypotheses include two assumptions: 1) $M$ admits a function that is strictly plurisubharmonic acting on $(p_0,q_0)$-forms in a neighborhood of $b\Omega$ for some fixed $0 \leq p_0 \leq n$, $1 \leq q_0 \leq n$, or $M$ is a Kähler metric whose holomorphic bisectional curvature acting $(p,q)$-forms is positive; and 2) there exists a family of vector fields $T_\epsilon$ that are transverse to the boundary $b\Omega$ and generate one forms, which when applied to $(p,q)$-forms, $0 \leq p \leq n$ and $q_0 \leq q \leq n$, satisfy a "weak form" of the compactness estimate. Abstract:We prove Sobolev-Poincaré and Poincaré inequalities in variable Lebesgue spaces $L^{p(\cdot)}(\Omega)$, with $\Omega\subset{\mathbb R}^n$ a bounded John domain, with weaker regularity assumptions on the exponent $p(\cdot)$ that have been used previously. In particular, we require $p(\cdot)$ to satisfy a new \emph{boundary $\log$-Hölder condition} that imposes some logarithmic decay on the oscillation of $p(\cdot)$ towards the boundary of the domain. Some control over the interior oscillation of $p(\cdot)$ is also needed, but it is given by a very general condition that allows $p(\cdot)$ to be discontinuous at every point of $\Omega$. Our results follows from a local-to-global argument based on the continuity of certain Hardy type operators. We provide examples that show that our boundary $\log$-Hölder condition is essentially necessary for our main results. The same examples are adapted to show that this condition is not sufficient for other related inequalities. Finally, we give an application to a Neumann problem for a degenerate $p(\cdot)$-Laplacian.

Abstract:We prove several inequalities related to the $\bar\partial$-operator on bounded domains in $\mathbb{C}^n$, which can be viewed as a $\bar\partial$-version of the classical Poincaré inequality and its various generalizations, and apply them to derive a generalization of Sobolev Inequality with Trace in $\mathbb{R}^n$. As applications to complex analysis, we get an integral form of Maximum Modulus Principle for holomorphic functions, and an improvement of Hörmander's $L^2$-estimate for $\bar\partial$ on bounded strictly pseudoconvex domains.

Abstract:We develop a method for proving sup-norm and Hölder estimates for $\overline{\partial}$ on wide class of finite type pseudoconvex domains in $\mathbb{C}^n$. A fundamental obstruction to proving sup-norm estimates is the possibility of singular complex curves with exceptionally high order of contact with the boundary. Our method handles this problem, and in $\mathbb{C}^3$, we prove sup-norm and Hölder estimates for all bounded, pseudoconvex domains with real-analytic boundary.

Abstract:fundamental result in global analysis and nonlinear elasticity asserts that given a solution $\mathfrak{S}$ to the Gauss--Codazzi--Ricci equations over a simply-connected closed manifold $(\mathcal{M}^n,g)$, one may find an isometric immersion $\iota$ of $(\mathcal{M}^n,g)$ into the Euclidean space $\mathbb{R}^{n+k}$ whose extrinsic geometry coincides with $\mathfrak{S}$. Here the dimension $n$ and the codimension $k$ are arbitrary. Abundant literature has been devoted to relaxing the regularity assumptions on $\mathfrak{S}$ and $\iota$. The best result up to date is $\mathfrak{S} \in L^p$ and $\iota \in W^{2,p}$ for $p>n \geq 3$ or $p=n=2$. In this paper, we extend the above result to $\iota \in \mathcal{X}$ whose topology is strictly weaker than $W^{2,n}$ for $n \geq 3$. Indeed, $\mathcal{X}$ is the weak Morrey space $L^{p, n-p}_{2,w}$ with arbitrary $p \in ]2,n]$. This appears to be first supercritical result in the literature on the existence of isometric immersions with low regularity, given the solubility of the Gauss--Codazzi--Ricci equations. Our proof essentially utilises the theory of Uhlenbeck gauges -- in particular, Rivière--Struwe's work [Partial regularity for harmonic maps and related problems, Comm. Pure Appl. Math. 61 (2008)] on harmonic maps in arbitrary dimensions and codimensions -- and compensated compactness.

Abstract:In this paper, we obtain that logarithmic Sobolev and $\mathcal{W}$- functionals have fantastic power series expansion formulas when we choose suitable test functions. By using these power series expansion formulas, we prove that if for some open subset $V$ in an $n$-dimensional manifold satisfying $$ \frac{ \int_V R d\mu}{\mathrm{Vol}(V)} \ge n(n-1)K$$ and the isoperimetric profile of $V$ satisfying $$ \operatorname{I}(V,\beta)\doteq \inf\limits_{\Omega\subset V,\mathrm{Vol}(\Omega)=\beta}\mathrm{Area}(\partial \Omega) \ge \operatorname{I}(M^n_K,\beta),$$ for all $\beta<\beta_0$ and some $\beta_0>0$, where $R$ is the scalar curvature and $M^n_K$ is the space form of constant sectional curvature $K$,then $\operatorname{Sec}(x)=K$ for all $x\in V$. We also get several other new scalar curvature rigidity theorems regarding isoperimetric profile, logarithmic Sobolev inequality and Perelman's $\boldsymbol{\mu}$-functional.

Quadratic estimates for degenerate elliptic systems on manifolds with lower Ricci curvature bounds and boundary value problems

Abstract:Weighted quadratic estimates are proved for certain bisectorial firstorder differential operators with bounded measurable coefficients which are (not necessarily pointwise) accretive, on complete manifolds with positive injectivity radius. As compared to earlier results, Ricci curvature is only assumed to be bounded from below, and the weight is only assumed to be locally in A^2. The Kato square root estimate is proved under this weaker assumption. On compact Lipschitz manifolds we prove solvability estimates for solutions to degenerate elliptic systems with not necessarily self-adjoint coefficients, and with Dirichlet, Neumann and Atiyah-Patodi-Singer boundary conditions.

Abstract:We consider the fractional Schrodinger equation with a logarithmic nonlinearity, when the power of the Laplacian is between zero and one. We prove global existence results in three different functional spaces: the Sobolev space corresponding to the quadratic form domain of the fractional Laplacian, the energy space, and a space contained in the operator domain of the fractional Laplacian. For this last case, a finite momentum assumption is made, and the key step consists in estimating the Lie commutator between the fractional Laplacian and the multiplication by a monomial.
