Abstract:In this note we derive some consequences from the Mari\~no-Vafa formula and the cut-and-join equation, these include unified simple proofs of the $\lambda_g$ conjecture and some other Hodge integral identities. We also describe a proof of the ELSV formula relating Hurwitz numbers and Hodge integrals by using the cut-and-join equation, following our proof of the Mari\~no-Vafa formula.

Abstract:Dumortier and Roussarie proposed a conjecture in their paper (2009, Discrete Con. Dyn. Sys., 2,723-781): For any \begin{document}$ q\in {\mathbb{N}} $\end{document} , the Abelian integrals \begin{document}$ J_{2j+1}(h) = \int_{\gamma_h}x^{2j-1}\,\mathrm dy $\end{document} , \begin{document}$ j = 0, 1, 2, \cdots, q $\end{document} , form a strict Chebyshev system on intervals \begin{document}$ h\in (0, \frac{1}{2}] $\end{document} , where \begin{document}$ \gamma_h = \{(x, y)| \mathrm e^{-2y}(y+\frac{1}{2}-x^2) = h\} $\end{document} . If this conjecture holds, then they obtain the precise upper bound of the number of limit cycles that appear near a slow-fast Hopf point of any codimension. In the present paper we develop a method to estimate the number of zeros of Abelian integrals and prove this conjecture.
Intersection formulas on moduli spaces of unitary shtukas

Abstract:Feng-Yun-Zhang have proved a function field analogue of the arithmetic Siegel-Weil formula, relating special cycles on moduli spaces of unitary shtukas to higher derivatives of Eisenstein series. We prove an extension of this formula in a low-dimensional case, and deduce from it a Gross-Zagier style formula expressing intersection multiplicities of cycles in terms of higher derivatives of base-change $L$-functions.

Abstract:We relate Fubini's theorem for Euler characteristics to Riemann-Hurwtiz formulae, and reprove a classical result of Iversen. The techniques used include algebraic geometry, complex geometry, and model theory. Possible applications to the study of wild ramification in finite characteristic are discussed.

Abstract:We generalize a theorem of Bismut–Zhang, which extends the Cheeger–Müller theorem on Ray–Singer torsion and Reidemeister torsion, to the case of infinite Galois covering spaces. Our result is stated in the framework of extended cohomology, and generalizes in this case a recent result of Braverman–Carey–Farber–Mathai. It does not use the determinant class condition and thus also (potentially) generalizes several results on L2-torsions due to Burghelea, Friedlander, Kappeler and McDonald. We combine the framework developed by Braverman–Carey–Farber–Mathai on the determinant of extended cohomology with the heat kernel method developed in the original paper of Bismut–Zhang to prove our result.

Abstract:Let $F$ be a real quadratic number field with discriminant $D$ and $\mathcal{O}_F$ the ring of integers in $F$. Let $\chi_F$ be the Dirichlet character associated to $F/\mathbb{Q}$. Write $L(\chi_F,s)$ for the Dirichlet L-function of $\chi_F$. By an induction argument for imprimitive Dirichlet L-values, we get several $2$-divisibility results on $L(\chi_F,-1)$ when $D$ has arbitrarily finitely many prime divisors. As an application, by making use of the Birch-Tate formula for $F$, we determine the $2$-primary part for the second $K$ group $K_2\mathcal{O}_F$. We also give a new proof for an old theorem of Browkin and Schinzel.

Abstract:A classical result of Fekete gives necessary conditions on a compact set in the complex plane so that it contains infinitely many sets of conjugate algebraic integers. We prove an effective version of Fekete's theorem in terms of a height function. As an application, we give a lower bound on the growth of the leading coefficient of certain polynomial sequences, generalizing a result by Schur. Lastly, we give an upper bound on minimal asymptotics of height over sequences of algebraic numbers.

Abstract:In this article, we present streamlined proofs of results of Ankeny, Artin, and Chowla concerning the fundamental unit of the real quadratic field $\mathbb{Q}(\sqrt{p})$ for primes $p\equiv 1 \bmod{4}$ while providing a generalization of their conjecture. Using our generalization, we relate Fermat quotients of quadratic non-residues $\bmod{p}$ to sums of harmonic numbers.

Abstract:Generalized Feller theory provides an important analog to Feller theory beyond locally compact state spaces. This is very useful for solutions of certain stochastic partial differential equations, Markovian lifts of fractional processes, or infinite dimensional affine and polynomial processes which appear prominently in the theory of signature stochastic differential equations. We extend several folklore results related to generalized Feller processes, in particular on their construction and path properties, and provide the often quite sophisticated proofs in full detail. We also introduce the new concept of extended Feller processes and compare them with standard and generalized ones. A key example relates generalized Feller semigroups of algebra homomorphisms via the method of characteristics to transport equations and continuous semiflows on weighted spaces, i.e. a remarkably generic way to treat differential equations on weighted spaces. We also provide a counterexample, which shows that no condition of the basic definition of generalized Feller semigroups can be dropped.

Congruence relations of Ankeny$\unicode{x2013}$Artin$\unicode{x2013}$Chowla type for real quadratic fields

Abstract:In 1951, Ankeny, Artin, and Chowla published a brief note containing four congruence relations involving the class number of $\mathbb{Q}(\sqrt{d})$ for positive squarefree integers $d\equiv 1 \bmod{4}$. Many of the ideas present in their paper can be seen as the precursors to the now developed theory of cyclotomic fields. Curiously, little attention has been paid to the cases of $d\equiv 2,3\bmod{4}$ in the literature. In the present work, we show that the congruences of the type proven by Ankeny, Artin, and Chowla can be seen as a special case of a more general methodology using Kubota$\unicode{x2013}$Leopoldt $p$-adic $L$-functions. Aside from the classical congruence involving Bernoulli numbers, we derive congruences involving quadratic residues and non-residues in $\mathbb{Z}/p\mathbb{Z}$ by relating these values to a well known expression for $L_p(1, \chi)$. We conclude with a discussion of known counterexamples to the so-called Composite Ankeny$\unicode{x2013}$Artin$\unicode{x2013}$Chowla conjecture and relate these to special dihedral extensions of $\mathbb{Q}$.

Abstract:This paper is submitted to Algebraic-Number-Theory Archives for validation by Number Theorists Community. It is an update of the previous versions ANT-0155, ANT-0170, ANT-0205, ANT-0237, ANT-0321, ANT-0333, and ANT-0356, of which the first four were titled `A generalization of Eichler criterium for Fermat's Last Theorem' and the last three were titled `A classical approach on Fermat-Wiles theorem'. This version contains a complete reorganization of the paper with a first part dealing with cyclotomic fields (independently of FLT) from page 10 to 72 and a second part dealing with FLT from page 73 to end. This version improves our previous results on cyclotomic fields and contains several significant error corrections. The proofs rest on classical theory of cyclotomic number fields $\Q(zeta_p)$.
