Abstract:Using the Green's function formalism, an ab initio theory for band structures of crystals is derived starting from the Hartree-Fock approximation. It is based on the algebraic diagrammatic construction scheme for the self-energy which is formulated for crystal orbitals (CO-ADC). In this approach, the poles of the Green's function are determined by solving a suitable Hermitian eigenvalue problem. The method is not only applicable to the outer valence and conduction bands, it is also stable for inner valence bands where strong electron correlations are effective. The key to the proposed scheme is to evaluate the self-energy in terms of Wannier orbitals before transforming it to a crystal momentum representation. Exploiting the fact that electron correlations are mainly local, one can truncate the lattice summations by an appropriate configuration selection scheme. This yields a flat configuration space; i.e., its size scales only linearly with the number of atoms per unit cell for large systems and, under certain conditions, the computational effort to determine band structures also scales linearly. As a first application of the new formalism, a lithium fluoride crystal has been chosen. A minimal basis set description is studied, and a satisfactory agreement with previous theoretical and experimental results for the fundamental band gap and the width of the F 2p valence band complex is obtained.

What problem does this paper attempt to address?
The main problem that this paper attempts to solve is to predict the charge - changing neutrino reaction cross - section in the nucleus through electron - scattering super - scaling analysis. Specifically, the author extends the electron - scattering super - scaling analysis in the several - GeV energy region within the nucleus, covering not only the quasi - elastic process but also the region dominated by the Δ resonance. Through reasonable assumptions and basic nuclear - scale functions for data extraction, as well as relevant information obtained from other studies, the author shows how to explain the remaining strength in the resonance region through the extended - scale analysis. In addition, the author applies this scale - analysis method in reverse to predict charge - changing neutrino reactions at several - GeV energies, especially for those nuclides related to neutrino - oscillation measurements. ### Problems Mainly Solved in the Paper: 1. **Extension of Electron - Scattering Super - Scaling Analysis**: Extend the super - scaling analysis from the quasi - elastic region to the Δ - resonance region to understand the electromagnetic response in the nucleus more comprehensively. 2. **Prediction of Charge - Changing Neutrino Reaction Cross - Section**: Utilize the extended super - scaling analysis method to predict the charge - changing neutrino reaction cross - section in the nucleus at several - GeV energies, especially for nuclides related to neutrino - oscillation experiments. ### Key Methods and Techniques: - **Super - Scaling Analysis**: Obtain the reduced cross - section by dividing the inclusive cross - section obtained from experiments by the appropriate single - nucleon cross - section, and compare it with the appropriate scale variable to observe whether there is scale behavior. - **Scale Variable**: Use the traditional scale variable in the quasi - elastic region and a new scale variable in the Δ - resonance region to adapt to the dynamics of resonance production. - **Relativistic Treatment**: Perform relativistic treatment on the required weak - interaction vector and axial - vector currents to cover the quasi - elastic process and the Δ - excitation process. ### Main Contributions: - **Verification and Extension of Super - Scaling Analysis**: Verify the effectiveness of super - scaling analysis in the quasi - elastic region and the Δ - resonance region through high - quality data. - **Prediction of Neutrino Reaction Cross - Section**: Provide high - precision predictions of charge - changing neutrino reaction cross - sections for neutrino - oscillation experiments, especially in the energy range of several - GeV. ### Conclusion: The paper successfully predicts the charge - changing neutrino reaction cross - section in the nucleus through the extended super - scaling analysis method, providing important theoretical support for neutrino - oscillation experiments. This method is not only effective in the quasi - elastic region but also shows good applicability in the Δ - resonance region, thereby improving the accuracy of neutrino - reaction - cross - section predictions.
