Abstract: We study the amoebae (in S. Favorov's sense) of finite systems of exponential sums with real spectra. For generic systems of this type, we give a more effective representation of the amoeba and we prove that the complementary set to the amoeba of a system with r exponential sums is a (r-1)-convexe set.

Abstract:In this article we investigate the spectral properties of the infinitesimal generator of an infinite system of master equations arising in the analysis of the approach to equilibrium in statistical mechanics. The system under investigation thus consists of infinitely many first-order differential equations governing the time evolution of probabilities susceptible of describing jumps between the eigenstates of a differential operator with a discrete point spectrum. The transition rates between eigenstates are chosen in such a way that the so-called detailed balance conditions are satisfied, so that for a large class of initial conditions the given system possesses a global solution which converges exponentially rapidly toward a time independent probability of Gibbs type. A particular feature and a challenge of the problem under investigation is that in the natural functional space where the initial-value problem is well-posed, the infinitesimal generator is realized as a non normal and non dissipative compact operator, whose spectrum therefore does not exhibit a spectral gap around the zero eigenvalue in contrast to the finite-dimensional case.

Abstract:An $n$-dimensional algebraic variety in $({\mathbb C}^\times)^{2n}$ covers its amoeba as well as its coamoeba generically finite-to-one. We provide an upper bound for the volume of these amoebas as well as for the number of points in the inverse images under the amoeba and coamoeba maps.

Abstract:In this article, we show that Fourier eigenmeasures supported on spheres with radii given by a locally finite sequence, which we call $k$-spherical measures, correspond to Fourier series exhibiting a modular-type transformation behaviour with respect to the metaplectic group. A familiar subset of such Fourier series comprises holomorphic modular forms. This allows us to construct $k$-spherical eigenmeasures and derive Poisson-type summation formulas, thereby recovering formulas of a similar nature established by Cohn-Gonçalves, Lev-Reti, and Meyer, among others. Additionally, we extend our results to higher dimensions, where Hilbert modular forms yield higher-dimensional $k$-spherical measures.

On the symmetry of finite sums of exponentials II

Abstract:In this note we extend our study of the rich geometry of the graph of a curve defined as the weighted sum of two exponentials. Let $\gamma_{a,b}^{s}: [0,1] \rightarrow \mathbb{C}$ be defined as $$\gamma_{a,b}^s(t) = (1-s) \exp(2 \pi i a t) + (1+s) \exp(2\pi i b t) $$ in which $1\leq a < b$ are two positive integers and $s \in [-1,1]$. In the first part we determined the symmetry groups of the graphs of $\gamma_{a,b}:=\gamma_{a,b}^0$. The main aim of this note is to study the continuous transition of the graph of the curve when $s$ changes from $-1$ to $1$. As a main result we determine the winding numbers $\mathrm{wind}(\gamma_{a,b}^s,0)$ for $s \in [-1,1] \setminus \{ 0 \}$ as well as the set of cusp points of each such curve. This sheds further light on our initial symmetry result and provides more non-trivial albeit easy-to-state examples of advanced concepts of geometry and topology.

Abstract:We study coamoebas of polynomials supported on circuits. Our results include an explicit description of the space of coamoebas, a relation between connected components of the coamoeba complement and critical points of the polynomial, an upper bound on the area of a planar coamoeba, and a recovered bound on the number of positive solutions of a fewnomial system.

Abstract:B-series and generalizations are a powerful tool for the analysis of numerical integrators. An extension named exotic aromatic B-series was introduced to study the order conditions for sampling the invariant measure of ergodic SDEs. Introducing a new symmetry normalization coefficient, we analyze the algebraic structures related to exotic B-series and S-series. Precisely, we prove the relationship between the Grossman-Larson algebras over exotic and grafted forests and the corresponding duals to the Connes-Kreimer coalgebras and use it to study the natural composition laws on exotic S-series. Applying this algebraic framework to the derivation of order conditions for a class of stochastic Runge-Kutta methods, we present a multiplicative property that ensures some order conditions to be satisfied automatically.

Abstract:We establish various forms of the following certainty principle: a set $S \subset \mathbb{R}^{n}$ contains a given finite linear pattern, provided that $S$ is a support of the Fourier transform of a sufficiently singular probability measure on $\mathbb{R}^{n}$. As its main corollary, we provide new dimensional estimates for PDE- and Fourier-constrained vector measures. Those results, in certain cases of restrictions given by homogeneous operators, improve known bounds related to the notion of the $k$-wave cone.

Abstract:Generalizing a result given by Li, Miao and Wang in 2022, we study the spectrality of a class of infinite convolutions in $\mathbb{R}^d$ generated by sequences of nearly $d$-th power lattices. This allows us to easily construct spectral measures with and without compact supports in $\mathbb{R}^d$. According to a result on the relation between supports of infinite convolutions and sets of infinite sums, we systematically study the Hausdorff and packing dimensions of infinite sums of finite sets in $\mathbb{R}^d$. As an application, we give concrete formulae for the Hausdorff and packing dimensions of the supports of a class of spectral measures in $\mathbb{R}^d$ with the form of infinite convolutions generated by specific sequences of nearly $d$-th power lattices, and finally we deduce that there are spectral measures with and without compact supports of arbitrary Hausdorff and packing dimensions in $\mathbb{R}^d$.

Abstract:It is well known that the Fourier--Bohr coefficients of regular model sets exist and are uniformly converging, volume-averaged exponential sums. Several proofs for this statement are known, all of which use fairly abstract machinery. For instance, there is one proof that uses dynamical systems theory and another one based on Meyer's theory of harmonious sets. Nevertheless, since the coefficients can be defined in an elementary way, it would be nice to have an alternative proof by similarly elementary means, which is to say by standard estimates of exponential sums under an appropriate use of the Poisson summation formula. Here, we present such a proof for the class of regular Euclidean model sets, that is, model sets with Euclidean physical and internal spaces and topologically regular windows with almost no boundary.

Abstract:We consider a new class of repeated zero-sum games in which the payoff is the escape rate of a switched dynamical system, where at every stage, the transition is given by a nonexpansive operator depending on the actions of both players. This generalizes to the two-player (and non-linear) case the notion of joint spectral radius of a family of matrices. We show that the value of this game does exist, and we characterize it in terms of an infinite dimensional non-linear eigenproblem. This provides a two-player analogue of Mañe's lemma from ergodic control. This also extends to the two-player case results of Kohlberg and Neyman (1981), Karlsson (2001), and Vigeral and the second author (2012), concerning the asymptotic behavior of nonexpansive mappings. We discuss two special cases of this game: order preserving and positively homogeneous self-maps of a cone equipped with Funk's and Thompson's metrics, and groups of translations.

Abstract:The aim of this note is to exploit a new relationship between additive combinatorics and the geometry of monomial projective curves. We associate to a finite set of non-negative integers a monomial projective curve such that the Hilbert function of and the cardinalities of agree. The singularities of determines the asymptotic behaviour of | sA |, equivalently the Hilbert polynomial of , and the asymptotic structure of sA . We show that some additive inverse problems can be translate to the rigidity of Hilbert polynomials and we improve an upper bound of the Castelnuovo-Mumford regularity of monomial projective curves by using results of additive combinatorics.

Abstract:We introduce amorphic complexity as a new topological invariant that measures the complexity of dynamical systems in the regime of zero entropy. Its main purpose is to detect the very onset of disorder in the asymptotic behaviour. For instance, it gives positive value to Denjoy examples on the circle and Sturmian subshifts, while being zero for all isometries and Morse-Smale systems. After discussing basic properties and examples, we show that amorphic complexity and the underlying asymptotic separation numbers can be used to distinguish almost automorphic minimal systems from equicontinuous ones. For symbolic systems, amorphic complexity equals the box dimension of the associated Besicovitch space. In this context, we concentrate on regular Toeplitz flows and give a detailed description of the relation to the scaling behaviour of the densities of the p-skeletons. Finally, we take a look at strange non-chaotic attractors appearing in so-called pinched skew product systems. Continuous-time systems, more general group actions and the application to cut and project quasicrystals will be treated in subsequent work.

Abstract:<h3 class="a-plus-plus">Abstract</h3> On a generic metric measured space, we introduce a notion of improved concentration of measure that takes into account the parallel enlargement of k distinct sets. We show that the k-th eigenvalues of the metric Laplacian gives exponential improved concentration with k sets. On compact Riemannian manifolds, this allows us to recover estimates on the eigenvalues of the Laplace-Beltrami operator in the spirit of an inequality of [11].
