Abstract:Consider the scheme B_{2,L}^k of stable vector bundles of rank two and fixed determinant L which have at least k sections. Under suitable numerical conditions and for generic L, we show the existence of a component of the expected dimension of B_{2,L}^k.

Abstract:Given any irreducible smooth complex projective curve $X$, of genus at least $2$, consider the moduli stack of vector bundles on $X$ of fixed rank and determinant. It is proved that the isomorphism class of the stack uniquely determines the isomorphism class of the curve $X$ and the rank of the vector bundles. The case of trivial determinant, rank $2$ and genus $2$ is specially interesting: the curve can be recovered from the moduli stack, but not from the moduli space (since this moduli space is $\mathbb{P}^3$ thus independently of the curve). We also prove a Torelli theorem for moduli stacks of principal $G$-bundles on a curve of genus at least $3$, where $G$ is any non-abelian reductive group.

Abstract:Let $X$ be a compact connected Riemann surface of genus $g \geq 3$ and $S \rightarrow X$ a $2:1$ branched covering defined by a generic quadratic differential on $X$. In the following notes, we explore how taking direct images of line bundles defined by certain distinguished special divisors on $S$ gives rank-2 bundles having nilpotent Higgs fields on $X$. The key ingredient is the notion of Baker-Akhiezer divisors associated to Higgs bundles and choices of subbundles of the underlying rank-2 bundles.

Abstract:We investigate the Gopakumar-Vafa (GV) theory of local curves, namely, the total spaces of rank two vector bundles with canonical determinant on smooth projective curves. Under a certain genericity condition on the rank two bundles, we propose a general mechanism to compute the degree two GV invariants of local curves. In particular, we determine all the degree two GV invariants when the base curve has genus two. Combined with previous work by Bryan and Pandharipande, we obtain the GV/GW correspondence in this case. When the base curve has genus greater than two, we calculate GV invariants for some extremal genera, providing evidence for the GV/GW conjecture for curves of higher genus.

Abstract:Let $C$ be a curve over a non-archimedean local field of characteristic zero. We formulate algebro-geometric statements that imply boundedness of functions on the moduli space of stable bundles of rank $2$ and fixed odd degree determinant over $C$, coming from the Schwartz space of $\kappa$-densities on the corresponding stack of bundles (earlier we proved that these functions are locally constant on the locus of very stable bundles). We prove the relevant algebro-geometric statements for curves of genus $2$ and for non-hyperelliptic curves of genus $3$.

Abstract:A genus-g du Val curve is a degree-3g plane curve having 8 points of multiplicity g, one point of multiplicity g-1, and no other singularity. We prove that the corank of the Gauss-Wahl map of a general du Val curve of odd genus (>11) is equal to one. This, together with the results of [1], shows that the characterisation of Brill-Noether-Petri curves with non-surjective Gauss-Wahl map as hyperplane sections of K3 surfaces and limits thereof, obtained in [3], is optimal.

Abstract:For $n\geq 3$ and $r\geq n$, we show that there are rank-$r$ vector bundles on $\mathbb{P}^n$ with arbitrary homological dimension. We apply the Bernstein-Gel'fand-Gel'fand correspondence to translate the vector bundle question into a problem on modules over the exterior algebra. Then, we use linear algebra to construct the desired modules.

Let $M_H:=M_{X,H}(2;c_1,c_2)$ be the moduli space of H-stable rank 2 vector bundles E on X with fixed Chern classes $c_i:=c_i(E)$ for $i=1,2$. The main goal of this paper is to contribute to a better understanding of the geometry of the moduli space $M_H$ in terms of its Brill-Noether locus $W_H^k(2;c_1,c_2)$, whose points correspond to stable vector bundles in $M_H$ having at least k independent sections. We deal with the non-emptiness of this Brill-Noether locus, getting in most of the cases sharp bounds for the values of k such that $W_H^k(2;c_1,c_2)$ is non-empty.

Abstract:Let $k$ be an algebraically closed field of any characteristic, and let $(X,P)$ be an orbifold curve over $k$. We construct the moduli space $\mathrm{M}_{(X,P)}^{\mathrm{ss}}(n, \Delta)$ of $P$-semistable bundles on $(X,P)$ of rank $n$ and determinant $\Delta$. In the characteristic zero case, this result is well known and follows from GIT techniques. Our construction follows a different approach inspired by a GIT-free construction of Faltings. We show that when the moduli space is non-empty, it is a finite disjoint union of irreducible projective varieties.

Abstract:Let N be the moduli space of stable rank 2 vector bundles on a smooth projective curve of genus g>1 with fixed odd determinant. With Sebastian Torres, we previously found a semi-orthogonal decomposition of the bounded derived category of N into bounded derived categories of symmetric powers of the curve and, possibly, a phantom block. In this work, we employ the theory of weaving patterns to eliminate the possibility of a phantom, completing the proof of the decomposition conjectured by Narasimhan and, independently, by Belmans, Galkin, and Mukhopadhyay.

Abstract:The simplest example of an ind-Grassmannian is the infinite projective space $\mathbf P^\infty$. The Barth-Van de Ven-Tyurin (BVT) Theorem, proved more than 30 years ago \cite{BV}, \cite{T}, \cite{Sa} (see also a recent proof by A. Coandă and G. Trautmann, \cite{CT}), claims that any vector bundle of finite rank on $\mathbf P^\infty$ is isomorphic to a direct sum of line bundles. In the last decade natural examples of infinite flag varieties (or flag ind-varieties) have arisen as homogeneous spaces of locally linear ind-groups, \cite{DPW}, \cite{DiP}. In the present paper we concentrate our attention to the special case of ind-Grassmannians, i.e. to inductive limits of Grassmannians of growing dimension.
